We came here a few times during our stay in DC. We ordered things like coffee, fresh juice, ice cream, chips and nachos, crispy avocado tacos, fish tacos, an eel bowl, and pizza. Everything here is pretty good. But the Mexican food was just okay (beans and cheese dip tasted canned/powdered), while the tacos were pretty standard. But my partner enjoyed having his coffee and juice here as well as the pizza. Overall we really enjoyed the concept of this place -- the shared community space, the tall ceilings, and the fast and seamless ordering system. You can order at any kiosk/stand, but it's better to grab a table, sit down, and order from the unique link you scan from each table's unique QR code link, and they bring the food to you. It's a model ahead of its time but one that makes it easy to order your food (though I can see the drawbacks like having to order once you get to the building since there are unique QR codes that prevent you from ordering food when you're not there. I honestly would give the food closer to 4 stars, but my partner had such positive experiences at this place that I am giving it 5 stars. read more

My friend invited me here to coworker for the day and I've never been so I decided to check it out. The place is really cute. They have varieties and the seating options are plentiful. We sat pretty much closer to the bar area. I believe that's where most of the plugs were. I ordered a chai and two steak tacos. The chai was not that great and it was lukewarm and the steak tacos were just not good. It was just a taco. Nothing seasoned about it and nothing special. And I love tacos. I was absolutely disappointed. The service was quick. you scanned the QR code place your order and they bring it to you. So that part was very efficient but this is not a place I would go for tacos maybe I needed to try something else, but I expected the chai to be good since it's also labeled as a coffee shop. I recently was introduced to this food hall because their burger is really good. Since that first visit I've been back about 4x in a couple of months... and I don't live in this area. So this just goes to show how much I love it here. I love how much seating they have of all different sizes and forms. Booths, bar stools, coffee show style with small tables in between, a persona booth. Really anything you can think of. I've gone at various times during the day and it's always pretty easy to find a seat. I love that you can order from any of the eateries directly on your phone and then they'll bring it to you! Outside of the train station Roost was the first destination of our DC trip, and it might just be the best specialty food court that I ever visited! It might have helped that it was anchored by their beer bar Shelter which featured a ton of special drafts for Snallygaster weekend. But I also loved the simple and innovative fact that you could order from any of the other restaurants set up in the food court and have the food brought over to your seat at eh bar area! With pizza, tacos, sushi, and then some it on the menu it was almost hard to choose. But after a good train ride, I was feeling the need for a hearty breakfast, so the Bodega Breakfast menu from Red Apron was calling my name, and it hooked up a good-sized portion of scrambled eggs, sausage, breakfast potatoes, and toast. While I'll say more about Shelter in a separate review, the variety of awesome brews that you could order in large or small pours definitely paired well with the balanced breakfast. I am in town visiting some family and my cousin was raving about this place! It was a nice spot with a really cute outdoor space, which is where we sat. It was a nice day, so why not! There are a number of menus to choose from. I opted to order from the Mexican inspired menu. I ordered the enchiladas with a side of beans and rice. The servers were so kind and the service was pretty quick.. However, everything was so so good until my last bite where I found a hair in my food... Pros: went here for a birthday dinner/drinks and had an absolute wonderful time. The service was wonderful and we found a table quickly on Friday evening, and the place was super moody with the lights dim, but high enough that you could have have great conversation. The food selection was almost overwhelming, and everything we got from the nachos to the beef burrito to the amazing noodles were delicious. The two different types of margaritas looked good and tasted good too. Cons: no formal parking structure so you have to go on a search and destroy mission for a parking spot, which took a little bit because the streets are narrow and of course, there were lots of Ubers and things like that dropping and picking people up and car is trying to get through. But after a short walk with a few blocks, we found a spot. The nonalcoholic drink menu from the bar is definitely lacking. It's basically seltzer waters and no mock tails, but when I went up to the bar, I had more success and getting a ginger beer and I'm guessing they probably would've made a Mocktail to you just can't order it off the QR code menu. I'll definitely be coming back, it's a great spot where no reservations are needed and lots of food options are available for a smaller large party. read more

I've been to the Roost many times and each time I have felt really satisfied and always had a great experience. The fries come with garlic and rosemary that's been cooked and it makes them taste unique. Service is usually super speedy and seating is plentiful. We grabbed two seats at the bar at Shelter, the beer spot with a great selection chosen by the same people behind Churchkey. Of course, they have an amazing diversity of choices, including some rare, specialty stouts we fell in love with. If you enjoy your beer, there is no better spot nearby. If you have more time, they also feature a Shop Made in DC, a coffee shop, meats and burgers from Red Apron, a dumpling/noodle bowl stall, an Italian restaurant, and a pizza slice joint. The roost is a unique location! How it works is you basically sit anywhere you like. Scan your QR code, place and order from ANY of the restaurants located in the building and they bring it to wherever you're sitting. You can sit in the specific restaurants if you like, the bar, or in the more general areas. It's a cute dim setting. My only complaint would be that it can be kind of loud depending on where you sit. I like the back area behind the middle bar because it's quieter. The staff is very friendly. If you're going at night, there's a dedicated person bringing you water and if you need anything, like utensils, etc. Food wise, I've tried the sushi a couple times. Always a fresh and yummy experience. I tried the apple pie for the first time but I won't order it again unless I plan to take it home. It comes out cold and no ice cream (I took that personal haha). My fiancé enjoyed the burger. Drinks were great and fresh ingredients too! All together we ordered from a couple of different spots within the place, so that's a big plus if you have a taste for a couple of different things at once.
