Still the number one coffee spot in DC for me. I have so many check in's here for a reason it's the coffee and of course the friendly staff. It's also a cool spot to work remote or taking a meeting. I hope the owner open more establishments in the future. Right now there are 2 locations (including Union Market) - I've had great experiences at both. A lot of the new or small coffee shops should follow their lead when it comes to coffee and providing excellent customer service. I love this place. read more

Stopped by Pluma while exploring the Wharf and really enjoyed the experience. The café itself is beautiful, minimalist, earthy, and thoughtfully designed. Even though we got our drinks and food to go, I couldn't help but admire the cute ceramics and overall aesthetic of the space. I ordered the lavender latte, which was good but didn't completely wow me. My husband and I also shared the bread pudding, and that was definitely the highlight. He gave it a 9/10, and I'd have to agree, it was delicious and the perfect treat to enjoy while walking around the pier. One thing to note is that prices are definitely on the higher side. I noticed the avocado toast was around $18, and while it looked nice, it didn't seem particularly special for the price. Here's what's going for them. 1) Food & Drink: Every pastry they make is worth the money and calories, especially their pain suisse. (It's the best I've ever had.) You can go savory with their quiche or ham and cheese croissant or go sweet with monkey bread, basque cheesecake, and more. To drink, they have a full coffee menu and free water in a jug at the condiment counter. 2) Service: Despite busyness, their staff often are patient, calm, and efficient. 3) Space: It's much larger than their original location with several long tables, small tables, window seats, and more. There's a unisex restroom in the back and a door that connects to their neighbor Politics & Prose. 4) Area: There are many restaurants and shops nearby along the water. Parking can be expensive or hard to find so take the Metro (Southwest Waterfront) or ride Capital Bikeshare. read more

I would have loved it if they offered a pour over and different single origin selections from around the world... But, that's very preferential to my palate... the roast they serve from small planes is beautiful. The espresso beans are single origin and they serve a blend for their drip coffee. But the gem of this coffee shop is the baked goods! It is absolutely the most delicious and well made bread I've ever had in a coffee shop. I feel like they should be a bakery that serves coffee on the side. Their mushroom toast is out of this world! Like the best thing I've had in a long time. Their sourdough and multigrain bread is the foundation and the most beautiful one at that. The sauce is magnificent. Their croissant is as close to magic as you can get... I just wish I had come in time to have it warm. Their avocado toast is served with fresh piles of beautiful avocado. But again, the multigrain bread is the star! Super cute coffee shop with an array of drink options. I got the granola and yogurt which had spiced chopped apples and raisins with honey. It was really good and I don't even like raisins! I also got their flavored latte for the season which is apple and had butter in it. This is a great new coffee shop tucked away by The Wharf, next to Politics & Prose. Whenever I walk in or walk by, it always looks so serene, clean and peaceful in there. They have an array of baked goods, a few savory menu items and of course and ample list of beverages. I've dropped by twice now and have ordered both a traditional latte as well as a Spanish latte. Both tasty and made with care. I also had to try their chocolate pistachio croissant. It's huge and very flakey. The pistachio paste inside is similar to that of an almond croissant, so if you like those then I think you're sure to enjoy this treat. (For me it was a little too sweet for my own taste but that's just personal preference - it was still delicious.) Definitely plan on popping in here on the reg and look forward to exploring their offerings further! read more

Took a quick scroll around and found this new spot! Nice and modern looking cafe right next to the bookstore! Chill vibes. The barista is absolutely friendly and very accommodating as we were inquiring related to the menu and drinks. Ordered yuzu matcha tonic - definitely refreshing taste as you could taste sparkling tonic to hit off with a slight tone of earthy matcha and a sprite of yuzu citrusy flavors. A delight drink around here! Also tried a chocolate with sea salt cookie, definitely fudgy bite but satisfying integrated flavors. Soft and slightly chewy. I went at opening on a weekday and there was no one there, i loved the tranquility to be able to just sit and enjoy my coffee. Croissant was perfectly flaky without falling apart and the coffee was delicious. I love a sweeter flavored coffee and the Spanish Latte was reccommended by the barista. It's well lit by a beautiful round skylight so probably a nice cafe to take a Zoom call if you had to do so. A number of people were working there when I stopped in. The cafe worker helped me choose from the 3 delicious looking cookie options - double chocolate, chocolate chip and snickerdoodle. She quickly packed my cookie to go in a small brown bag. Back at my desk I tucked in. The cookie had plenty of chocolate chips and a good consistency but also an aftertaste i couldn't identify. My favorite bakery has a new location on the Wharf!!! The same delicious pastries and food options are here along with much more seating. There are a couple large communal tables along with smaller bistro-style tables inside and outside. I grabbed a pan suisse here and it's just as tender and delicate as I know. If you're unfamiliar, they make a variety of viennoiserie from standard croissants, one of the best ham and cheese croissants ever, and a fantastic morning bun (my personal fav!). Their basque cheesecake is also a winner and they make a super dense bread pudding that is carb heaven. I can't say there are many businesses I frequent on the Wharf, but this will be my go-to when I'm ever in the neighborhood now. So glad to see this local businesses expanding! read more

I love that the Wharf area is having more and more cafe options. This cafe is definitely one of the top places in this area! And I'm happy it's right next to a bookstore so that I can get some food and drinks and browse through books and miscellaneous stuff. So far, I tried: - Double chocolate chip with salt - wow, amazing!!! I thought it'd have a hard crispy exterior, but it was so soft, chewy, and almost fudge-like. Not gooey or melty-soft. Not like fudge per se. Just soft, clean, non-messy, chewy, rich interior. I didn't think I'd like a chewy cookie this much. And the flavor was absolutely lovely and rich, the sweetness balanced well with sea salt flakes, and it just hit the spot for me. In short, I am actually really impressed with this dam* cookie. - Yuzu matcha tonic - delicious as well. Nice earthy matcha tones complemented with cold refreshing tonic and zesty yuzu juice. Service was great and accommodating. We'll be back to try other foods on the menu. read more

I have to add this to the previous review...the chef did it again!! I had the November quiche - mushroom with caramelized onion AND I had the pumpkin bread and the bread pudding. I brought the breads home slightly warmed then (tasty as it was prepared but warming makes a huge difference) I put 8-10 dark chocolate chips on each item then put the plate on top of my tea as it steeped. Perfection!! The chocolate chips gave just enough sweetness without taking away from the essence of the original pastry! read more

Cute coffee shop on the Wharf that opened up not too long ago! It's adjacent to a bookstore and has a very simplistic vibe with a good amount of seating. The quality of coffee is quite good and they have a variety of pastries too. Their drink specials by default are a bit sweet so I would suggest ordering half sweet. read more

Amazing! In fact, so amazing, I forgot to take a picture to post here. I had their spicy folded eggs. You may think, what are spicy folded eggs. I pictured these eggs, just folded in half, and kind of laid out on a plate. The spicy, wasn't sure what that was. Well visualize this. A huge thick slice of the most incredible sourdough, melt in your mouth, homemade bread. Then picture an incredible generous portion of the most fluffiest tastiest eggs laid nicely on top of that slice. Then imagine is incredible. Just mouthwatering cornucopia of spice laid out on top of the eggs. I literally got my order, opened it up, looked at it, and said this looks amazing. I ate the entire serving in one standing. Yes, standing because it was so good. I forgot to sit down. This place became my top place to get delicious food from. My husband and I frequent Pluma at least once a week and every time they deliver!! Typically we'll get caramel lattes and I always asks for a decaf due to a heart condition and they always get the decaf right! (Usually places don't!) We've even gotten plain lattes and they are great, not too bitter or watered down- they know what they are doing! Just recently we started getting the breakfast sandwhiches like Sammy 1 & 2 and the flavors and amazing! A tad on the large/filling end so my husband and I split but that's more a personal preference. The flavors are worth it! Right now they have a sweet corn latte and it's such a nice flavor I never knew about before that reminds me of fall (I know it sounds weird hearing the word corn but trust me it's awesome!) The pastries are always a win, I do feel like all the pastry places in DC have about the same flavors so it'd be nice to see something new but that doesn't mean Pluma still doesn't nail this! (I recommend the basque cheesecake!) The actual cafe is connected to the bookstore next door so this is such a nice place to go to on the weekend and spend a day! The actual cafe side is a tad echo-y so I don't work from home here but I see a lot of people typically enjoying it! Since my husband and I frequent so much the workers have started knowing our orders which is such a kind thing to remember and we really feel welcomed here! Omg deliciousness! After spending a month on the Wharf, I just discovered this place. I was only coming in for a chocolate croissant, but then looked at their minimalist menu I wondered what a "Sammy OG" was. After asking what exactly it was, I was sold the minute Pork Belly was uttered! Once it arrived, the smell of it made my mouth water. Since I didn't hear anything past Pork Belly, I enjoyed the choice of bun, which was simple, as well as the fried egg and melty cheese. What brought an additional taste to this wonderful breakfast sandwich was what I can only call a sauce, since it oozed as I took a bite. I think it was a balsamic and oil sauce because there was a touch of sweetness to it. Something I'm not usually a fan of, but enjoyed the added flavour given to the food. Since I got there soon after they opened, the place was empty and service was quick. As I waited for my order, I sat at one of the communal tables and wondered what it would be like as the day goes on and the place gets busier. But I enjoyed the early emptiness of the store.
