This is our local go-to coffee shop for multiple reasons: it's the closest *decent* coffee strong in navy yard, it's not over priced, and it's locally owned. The coffee is always stronger than other places we've been too - which we prefer. The pastries are good - not life changing but solid. We had the breakfast sandwich today for the first time and it was good! They press it so the cheese was nice and melty and it tased homemade. They're always kind and happy to offer suggestions. Amazing Cortado - small but mighty to wake you up! I asked for here so we wouldn't have to pay extra charge for to go cups and we have time to stay and chill a bit with journaling. Plentiful seatings upstairs which was nice! The customer service was succinct and quick. Simple and not much decorated. Seems like it was a part of hotel as it's almost like a cookie cutter from a hotel breakfast/lobby. Good spot to chill at and away from the public's view. read more

Good drinks. Marocchino caldo (with oat milk) was rich, chocolatey, and sweet. Cappuccino Viennese was smooth and not sweet at all, except for the whipped cream on top. What's cool about this cafe is that "to stay" drinks are cheaper than "to go" drinks. I like that. "To stay" drinks are also smaller, but I don't need a big drink anyway, and fewer takeout cups are wasted, and everyone saves money. Wow, I can't believe I have been a regular for over 7 years now! This is a testament to how great (and consistent) the food,service and ambiance are here! My favorite sandwiches are the BLT and the Smoked Turkey Panini(minus the olives). FYI, there is a nice selection of chips that come with your sandwich. This is my ALL TIME favorite coffee shop. I can't get enough of it. It comes down to the owner, Yung Park. I've been coming here for a little over two years now and I feel like I'm his only regular customer. But I know I'm not because I see him say hello with a smile on his face to every regular that comes in. He asks them questions. He notices you and makes you feel seen. He and his sister are the primary faces of Lot 38 and they are a well oiled machine. They know how I like my vanilla chai but also know whether to ask if I'm up for having it iced or hot. My fiance has been coming here even longer because he's worked near the coffee shop for quite a while now. Yung has taken the time to sit down him for at the end of the day, just before closing for a quick chat. They are fast and efficient. They may not have all the fancies flavors or do all the fancy things, but that means everything they do, they do it really well and consistently. I'll go to competitors and it's never consistent, even though I'm paying the same amount every time. I could leave other places either happy or disappointed. It's a toss up based on who is working that day, etc. With Lot 38, I am never disappointed and I know I will always get what I pay for and then some. They also have an incredible line up of sandwiches and pastries. I'm a huge fan of the classic bacon, egg, and cheese on a ciabatta. I also love their blueberry crumble muffins. This was a main stay for me while I was finishing nurse practitioner school. They have a second floor full of seating - though outlets are limited, FYI. I often see groups of people meeting for meetings, maybe a bible study, job interviews, reading, hanging out, and studying. Whatever you need, they have the space for you. Skip Gregory's across the street. Lot 38 has the superior coffee and service. I was greeted by whom I assume are the owners and proceeded to order my litmus test for new shops. (Oat Cappuccino) Unlike the other two coffee shops in the area, I felt a respect for the craft with my order. Perfect foam texture and temperature. Latte art was present (unlike Gregory's). Most importantly, the flavor was such a wonderful contrast from what I had been drinking on my weekend stay here in DC. Balanced and chocolatey. Came in here at 8am on a Sunday. Few customers in there but my order was taken right away & I got my food/drink a few minutes later. All I can say is: Best dirty chai latte I've ever had. Super good and very reasonably priced- most places charge you a LOT more!! Pretty good bagel, nothing too special but solid and satisfied my craving. I wish I knew there were other types of bagels bc I definitely would've gotten something other than a plain bagel. As far as the inside- pretty small first floor but I think they have tables and a larger space upstairs. I saw signs that they offer free WiFi so could be a good study/work space. Also, there is park across the street that is a great place to enjoy a cup of coffee! Overall- super good cafe and can't beat the prices for what you get (seems like I found the neighborhood coffee spot)!! read more

We like the coffee, especially the mocha and dulce de leche, because we can taste the coffee AND the mocha without one overpowering the other. We love that they have food! Tried several of their lunch sandwiches, all have been tasty. Have started to try their breakfast sandwiches, which you can get as a lunch, so that's a score! Price is reasonable and actually a good value for the location. We also enjoy the location, it's within walking distance to a lot of other residences and even to the ballpark, but it's not super crazy. The way I found Lot 38 was completely unexpected. I was looking for another place but couldn't find a parking spot so I pulled onto another street. I found a parking spot immediately and looked to my left and there it was. The inside is small but it smelled great. I decided to get the Dulce de Leche which was so good. It wasn't too sweet and the perfect amount of espresso for me. I did expect a hot drink but it comes iced. I didn't mind. I also ordered the Chicken Pesto Panini (it comes with chips). Have you ever bitten into something and you had to do a double-take to make sure it's real? That was my experience with the panini. It was delicious - soft, flavorful, and cheesy. I also grabbed Coffee Bread to go. It was really tasty. It was also topped with pecan, which was a nice surprise addition. The service was great. The gentleman behind the counter greeted me immediately upon arrival and was helpful while ordering. As I was leaving, I noticed there was an upstairs area. I'll make sure to check it out on my next visit. The price point was great. I spent about $21 for my complete order. read more

Fast and friendly service! Lot 38 is tucked into the side of a hotel, around the block from the entrance. It's a short walk from the Navy Yard metro. I recently ordered some bagels to-go. They were on the smaller side but stuffed with lots of filling--which is way better than a big, soggy bagel with a single sad piece of salmon inside. My salmon bagel had onions and capers and was quite good. Next time I'll definitely order coffee and probably a panini or a banh mi sandwich. While I was waiting, another patron came in to order his regular coffee. He chatted with the staff about his vacation and said it was good to be back. If you're visiting during the morning rush, be prepared to see a line, but service is very efficient and wait times are not too bad. I ordered 2 coffees and a sandwich during the 8am rush and only had to wait for 5 minutes. FOOD: - Bahn Mi Chicken: 5/5 - Definitely the most unique item on their sandwich menu (everything else is more italian/breakfast sandwiches)! Everything about this sandwich was perfect. The pickled vegetables were the perfect balance of sweet, and slightly tangy. Not sour at all! - Duche de Leche Latte: 5/5 - Can be a little sweet; ask for less caramel if you prefer! They've mastered this coffee. You can taste both the coffee and caramel. - Regular Hot Latte: 4/5 - Good latte, but nothing really wow-ed me with this one. Could be just my preference, but I like a slightly stronger coffee taste rather than milk taste with my lattes.
