After being unable to attain a reading room at the Library of Congress in order to get some work done, we walked to this location and I put in an order for us for lunch. We were able to sit here for a couple of hours, enjoying our order and I got to get some work done. It got fairly busy a couple of times, and with that, it got a little noisy. I overheard someone talking about how this Starbucks had an upstairs which was quieter, but I was just about to hop on a Zoom meeting and didn't have time to scope it out. Surprisingly adequate Starbucks location based on the location right on Pennsylvania Avenue. A few blocks from the Capitol and Library of Congress. Very busy throughout the day! Outdoor and indoor seating areas. Staff is professional and friendly. Food and beverage menu is standard. I've never had an issue with anything that I've ordered. There is a little-known upstairs room that is much more pleasant if you are looking for a place to catch up with a friend or simply enjoy your mug of hot chocolate. It's a local secret. Why is it so dang difficult to get a glass of water (with a purchased coffee) at Starbucks these days?! I was ignored the first four times I asked after picking up my coffee, and when she finally brought one she had a terrible attitude and body language about the simple request. Loud music. Too loud. And a bad barista. Not a good experience. Apparently they were out of Vanilla syrup for the drink I ordered and when I asked for a suggestion to replace with something else she couldn't be bothered to offer anything. No apologies even. Because she couldn't be bothered to speak, she was difficult to understand and the music was so loud I could hardly hear her. Thankfully another person behind the counter suggested sugar free syrup. Also, I got the same drink on two different days and both times the cup was overfilled so the sticky syrup was on the sides making it a complete mess. Ok, I must first admit that I'm not much of a Starbucks fan, so this might even be a first review of one of these for me. Do realize that I do enjoy a clgood cup of coffee, but have always viewed Starbucks as overrated and overpriced. Well, I had an appointment to have my car repaired nearby first thing in the morning, and the closest warm hangout spot proved to be this Starbucks. I must admit that thing location I found to be quite a pleasing experience. I tried the pistachio latte and a bakery item, both of which were rather tasty. As I sat in the upper level, in some rather soft and comfortable chairs, I had the misfortune of spilling most of my latte all over the floor. A barrista was in the area for another purpose, but rapidly assisted me in the cleanup of my mess and had another latte prepared for me. Looking for a unique coffee shop with a familiar name? This Capitol Hill Starbucks will do just fine with its setting in an old two story building. Nothing alerts you to the fact it's a chain coffee shop until you see the sign. It even has a bit of a secret area most in a hurry would never know about. The beautiful Capitol Hill setting with nicely landscaped yards in the surround is part of the reason I elevated to a 4. Its coolness factor screams check me out. The exterior has a patio left of the entrance. The walk up had some minor debris and I noticed rotted wood on the front window that needs attention. Street parking is in front and limited. Make no mistake this shop is no secret and on a weekday morning around 8 AM it was slammed!!! They were packed inside and most of the first floor. The interior also has a different feel with high ceilings, drop lighting dark louvre blinds on the windows. All the elements are of course present with merchandise that you're in a Starbucks. The line moved quickly and I ordered a White Chocolate Mocha in a for here mug with lemon pound cake. My wife a black iced tea. The staff was very busy, but I did conjure up a smile from the staff and the app worked flawlessly. I sat at the end of the bar and prepared my day of tour of the city. The coffee, cake and tea were out in around 10 minutes. The tea came out ahead. This is longer than I'm accustomed to, but I can let it go. They were busy and Mobil orders were cranking out. I really liked the hustle of the staff. The coffee was up to my specifications since this is my usual. The cake fresh. I enjoyed people watching over my breakfast very much. Movers and shakers, mom's with strollers and tourist all meshed together with a common goal of a caffeine fix. The secret behind this shop has yet to be revealed. A glorious second floor space that's a must to check out is the locals "secret".. Exposed brick, comfy seating and I beams with a fireplace sound enchanting? A large wooden communal table seats twelve. Windows let the sunshine in, but it's not overbearing opposite the sun. Lots of areas to plug in too! They even offer a walled off private room that easily seats six. The biggest surprise was that it had lots of availability for customers to seek refuge from the craziness below. I'm a fan of Starbucks and enjoy a cup a few times weekly. This gem of a store stands out as a charmer with its gorgeous setting and second floor space. 3.5, rounding up and recommend. read more

I absolutely love this Starbucks - it has great seating and great service. Their food is always good as well. The study space is so amazing for anyone who wants to focus and get to work - it is quiet and so so nice to sit up there for hours. One issue that I have with this Starbucks is the bathroom. The bathrooms are absolutely disgusting. Every time you walk in, it smells like someone peed all over the floor or they haven't been cleaned in ages. There is hardly ever any toilet paper and I have seen certain unknown substances on the toilet and on the wall. I love this Starbucks for so many reasons but I would be more inclined to spend time/money there if the bathrooms were clean/usable. Really upsetting to see such a great space have bathrooms that are so uncleanly. read more

My order is always the same. Grande, nitro cold brew. Today there I added a slice of pumpkin loaf. My greeting when entering always cheerful and approachable. Before I began complaining let me say I don't want cream in my cup because I'm there for coffee not milk. My past experience is more creamer less coffee. This location works in haste without listening. I asked for sweet cream on the side from the tiny little lady without a name tag. So excuse the description. She keyed it in as half n half. I repeated sweet cream. The coffee is always $6.33 with the cream. She charged me $7.75 or something near, the manager kept the six receipts. I asked why are you charging me extra if it goes in the cup? It's not like it's a separate drink it's in a shot cup. The manager refunds the coffee and divided the proceeds of repayment to look like it's not the same $7.75..!! So I asked her to give me the $20 back. Here's the initial change from the original order. Manager says I need to count the money first so I don't mess up the count. I told her she messed up my order so what's the difference. Five minutes of counting $7 she gave me the $20 bill I gave her. I will CONTINUE to give negative reviews on Starbucks customer service until I get what I have paid for. Fix it so there's NOT a half cup of foam so when settling it's a half cup of coffee. Allot the patron a choice of creamer in the cup w/o charging. Dont just think you can add on DINNER 1 because you can. Whatever that is. read more

Was greeted by someone outside shaking a cup for change. Place was pretty empty except for a few customers sitting on the patio. Ordered my drink with the friendly male barista (didn't catch his name) and waited for the restroom to free up. Drink was delicious & ready pretty quickly, found a hiding spot for it while I dipped into the restroom. It smelled gross, had no TP or soap in the dispenser, & urine was all over the floor near the toilet. Alerted the baristas on my way out, they either didn't hear me or they just ignored me. Not sure why this particular location just can't seem to get it together. I order heremost mornings, and almost always something a little off. You order Splenda there's no sweetener at all. This is literally the best group of people right here. I was in town only a couple of hours today. Had stopped at 5 different Starbucks for the been there mugs. Only found one Virginia one on the way up from Orlando. I walked in here and there were no DC ones. I bought a Maryland one after they searched all of them for a DC one. One staff member gave me his personal DC cup after I bought the Maryland one and was on my way out the door. Ordered an iced chai tea and a cherry blossom frappe. Chai tea tasted watered down and it took almost 15 minutes before they told me they didn't have the ingredients for the cherry blossom drink. There's also many homeless people hanging about. Definitely not recommend this location. read more

I'm sure some of you think I'm crazy to give the evil Starbucks brand a 4 star rating on Yelp. Hear me out... DC is lacking in coffee shops with a strong WIFI connection and enough seating for all. This place has both! It's right on Capitol Hill (the closest Starbucks from the US Capitol building) and has amazing WIFI and enough seating for all. I almost don't want to write this since it's still a little secret, but what the heck. There is an upstairs with couches and many tables and even a private room for study groups. Always for the most part fast in getting you in and out here, even with major foot traffic. I like the Barista's here they always are nice and try to get your order right every time and if it isn't they don't have an issue or attitude fixing it. They are good in handling high volumes of customers too at a faced pace. They are located on the corner on Capitol Hill so the do have indoor seating and outdoor seating. I ordered a medicine ball here every once and awhile and they always know right off how to make it etc. They also know how to make custom hack Starbucks drinks here too if you ask.
