Grabbed a drink before visiting a stadium. The place is relatively new, spacious, and clean. Lots of tables and seats to enjoy coffee. The friendly staff took my order and prepared my café au lait pretty quickly. The coffee was smooth and tasty. The only thing I would say is that the digital menu board showed the seasonal menu a lot, so I had to keep looking at the digital board to see the regular menu. Decent price, cute cup, & convenient location. I'd love to stop by if I'm around.

We came here twice on our trip as it was around the corner from our hotel. The service was always quick, our second day the cashier loved his job which was fun. He had great recommendations. We tried the maple latte, gingerbread latte, chai tea, and almond butter latte. All were good - I felt like the shots weren't consistent and sometimes tasted a little burnt. Their foam skills were top notch as we got cool designs both days. Definitely convenient for the area but I'm not sure I would go out of my way consistently to grab coffee here.

Great coffee and ambiance indoors and outdoors. They have a large indoor space as well as outdoor seating. Plenty of people working indoors, a few with dogs. The coffee and espresso is delicious, and they'll serve you in mugs to stay if you ask! They also sell their coffee beans in refillable metal tins.

Clean, friendly and yuppy vibe makes this location a nice stop during work breaks. Staff and service always pleasant and coffee on point! I have yet to try any solid here but they do look appetizing and an array of pastries on display definitely neat! I noticed books on shelf and a sign says: take a book or leave a book and I did the latter, for I was just there for a quick lift me up before my office mtg...

Try the lavender latte if you even sort of like lavender. Very good

Always a fav. Service here was great and so glad I listen to suggestion of getting hot lavender latte!

Great service and fun seasonal coffees! I like their cherry blossom latte (more for the aesthetics than anything else, I'll admit). Their croissants are solid - not outstanding, but tasty and a good start to the morning, especially if you ask for them warmed up. The coffee itself isn't my favorite (I'm biased first because it's so close to Yellow, which has really creative coffees, and because even for DC I think $6.75 for a latte is a ton), but the hours are really convenient, the service is great, and the space is big and has loads of seating/areas to sit and work.

Opened in March 2022, the Navy Yard location is the newest in the Compass Coffee family. After stopping in for a latte and a pastry, here's what's to love: 1) Space: It's one of their larger locations with plenty of tables, seats and even a raised area with more seats. With high ceilings and product spread throughout the shop, it feels big. They have wifi and outlets, making it a great place to work from. 2) Location: It's in Navy Yard really close to Nats Stadium and plenty of other shops. 3) Coffee: They have all the basic coffee items and a large menu of specialty and seasonal items, including a cherry blossom nitro brew during the spring. My go-to is an almond butter latte. Here's where they could improve after working through grand opening kinks: 1) Time: It took a very long time to get your coffee drink. Even without a line, there was a bit of a wait. Although unexpectedly long, I don't blame them. They just had one person making drinks on a Tuesday morning. Hopefully as the pandemic ends, they can hire more baristas to help. 2) Food: They have decent pastries and I love their ham and cheese croissant. However, the one at this location was pretty cold making the cheese very "block-y." 3) Parking: This isn't their fault, but there's no easy spot to park on the block so Metro/walk when you can.

One of my go-to spots for coffee, pastries, breakfast sandwiches, and of course pup cups for my best pup friend! The service and friendly and quick while taking the time to make each drink the best. It's a great place to meet friends or study for an exam. The place can be quiet during the week day but hopping on a Saturday morning during the farmers market. My favorite time of year has begun, Fall seasonal drinks! My new favorite drink is their maple latte, hot or iced. I add some cinnamon and it reminds me of French toast!

I ordered a container of their Autumn Blend coffee to take home with me. It has about 340 grams which should last us until the end of the year. Especially since we don't drink coffee everyday. While I was here I also got a decaf espresso to chill with while I was here. I love the vibe at this particular location and there is amole seating for a large number of customers. The people who work here are also very nice, and they took my order right away. What's even better is that they are having a promotion tomorrow where they are giving away gift cards to the first few customers. This cafe is also pretty quiet and I think it would be a great place to set-up and work. I didn't spend a lot of time here today, bit the place seems like it could be a lot of fun.

It is wonderful the Navy Yard/Capitol Riverfront area is getting some more coffee shop competition. This Compass Coffee location is roomy with plenty of seats and an excellent air conditioning system if you want to cool off with an iced latte before heading into Nationals Park. It is right next to the current Bullpen location at the Half St Metro entrance/exit. Shout out to the employees here for their friendliness and efficiency and keeping the store clean each time in here.

This was a cute modern coffee shop. I liked that they had seasonal lattes that were creative! My latte was good and served at the right temp. However, service was blah and the people seemed irked by customers .

We were seated on the ground floor. The decor was exotic in a pleasant way and it looked like there were many seating or standing options. It was quiet in the early afternoon. We ordered the fries with aioli, I had the lamb tartare and my friend the lamb bolognese, and we both had pound cake for dessert. We both deeply enjoyed the taste and presentation of the dishes we ordered. The fries were hot and crispy and the aioli delicious -- I only wish there were more given the generous portion of fries. My tartare had the taste and texture of pate, despite the lamb chop exterior. Very clever. The aroma was just right. The cake was warm and moist with a crispy crust. My friend remarked that dishes of similar quality, taste, and presentation would cost triple in Manhattan. Regrettably, we were charged $12 for the $10 dessert. The waiter attributed it to a "computer error," but I've had to deal with overcharging by several of my favorite DC restaurants. Whether intentional or not, it left a bad taste in my mouth. Other cons: The menu is admittedly sketchy. My friend and I were unwilling to gamble on expensive and elaborate dishes. It sounds like the reviewers here did. Also, the restaurant is located in the heart of Capitol Hill, far from the metro. It's a long walk or you'll be looking for parking. Butterworth's is now my favorite restaurant in DC. I've been wanting to bring my family here for the longest time, but I've hesitated because I don't want to deal with the contempt of the host, the embarrassment of disputing false charges, and the pain of finding parking. I've been wanting to return solo for the longest time, but I've hesitated because the place is in the middle of nowhere, and I don't want to walk 25 minutes or pay $15 for a cab ride just to pay another $50 for a meal here, as wonderful as the experience might be. All that said, in terms of taste, presentation, ambiance, and price, Butterworth's left a strong and positive impression on me.

He gave it a 9/10, and I'd have to agree, it was delicious and the perfect treat to enjoy while walking around the pier. One thing to note is that prices are definitely on the higher side. I noticed the avocado toast was around $18, and while it looked nice, it didn't seem particularly special for the price. Total came out to approximately $55. What's hot - Menu. Good variety and there appears to be something for everyone, even possibly vegans. There are sweet and savory options, eggs, french toast, salads, sandwiches, etc... - Quality. Excellent! All 3 of us really enjoyed the food that we ordered. Their french toast and omelettes are delicious. My husband particularly liked the maple syrup that was served with his french toast, because the maple flavor tasted a bit stronger than your average maple syrup. Their pastries are also delicious! Soft, good texture and not too sweet. Given the softness, my best guess is that their sweet treats are recently made. - Service. Pretty good. We did not wait very long for our orders to be ready. The hot foods, like the omelettes, french toast, and drinks, appear to be freshly made. - Price. Good value for money, given the quality and portions. - Location. Convenient location in D.C. However, given the location, be prepared for it to get busy quickly, which means decent lines and wait times. What's not - Interior space. Very tight squeeze inside. There are tables and chairs inside, but their biggest tables can only fit 4 people. If you have children with a stroller or whatever, be prepared to not have room inside. They have outside seating, but that's only conducive to when the weather is warm. This place appears to be popular, which means it can get packed very quickly and seating can be difficult to find. - Acoustics. They play relatively loud music inside, which makes it difficult to have conversations with those you're with. That the interior is small, the music travels easily, which does not help. - Omelette. Even though I liked the flavor of my omelette, it was rather thin. I prefer my omelette to be more weighty/fluffy in texture. Additionally, cheese is not automatically included with the omelette. I ordered mushrooms, red peppers, spinach, and bacon in my omelette. I mistakenly believed cheese was automatically included, but I was wrong. - Parking. Is not easy to find given the location. There is street parking, but it's very difficult to come by. Final Answer Would like to come back, but probably not a first choice given the tight squeeze of the interior. If I do return, would more likely than not order takeaway.
