more like a 3.5ish. we enjoyed our meal at Chido's. we went mid afternoon and it was busy considering the off hours. the chips and salsa were good (salsa a little runny, but tasty). we started with empanadas, which were really done well. the dipping sauce they came with was delicious - almost like a pickled or fermented sauce with herbs and finely diced onion. wasn't for my husband but i couldn't get enough of it! i had a combo plate, and got a beef enchilada and beef chile relleno. the relleno was flavorful (i LOVE cilantro) and the enchilada was done well. very cheese heavy, but that's never a bad thing in my book. expect VERY big portions. my husband found an eggshell in his rellenos, which was a bit of a disappointment. while i enjoyed mine, he indicated they weren't prepared as he expected. i found the flavors right, but i'm not usually very picky. our waitress was attentive and the atmosphere was relaxed and not too overwhelming (it's a big restaurant, this might be different at night with a full house). overall decent experience! read more

Came here with some friends. Open surface parking lot, free. We didn't have a reservation but it was easy enough to get a table (booth) for 6 on a Friday evening. Booth was comfortable. I didn't have much, but the table chips & salsa was good. We ended up sharing a pitcher of Cadillac Margarita ($63) and regular Mango Margarita ($50) since we were all getting marg's anyway. These were all more than enough to share between 4 people. The Mango was good, the Cadillac was strong! I ordered Shrimp Tacos ($16). I don't think they were on the menu, but they were provided. 3 Tacos with salsa, guacamole & lettuce on the side. It always came with a bowl of brown beans and yellow rice. Good. I was full after 1 taco. When it's someone's birthday, the staff comes out in almost like a full band. It was cute. We were all able to pay on separate checks. I and myself took on the full responsibility of purchasing the marg's for the group. This is one of my favorite Mexican restaurants and when I used to live in Laurel, I would go here regularly. The food and the vibes are always on 1000 and they throw one of the best Cinco de Mayo events in Maryland. On this particular day, I had a light meal, but it was so delicious and the bartenders, because I sat in the bar area, were so sweet and attentive. Apparently I'm new to the fact that Chido's has the vibes. I met up with some friends on a Saturday, and the place was packed. We had to wait about 30 min for a table, but it wasn't too bad after that. We shared a Frozen blackberry and regular Margarita pitcher which was surprisingly strong considering it was being split between 4 people (suggestion: you only need 1)! The frozen blackberry was definitely a hit! For dinner we had Salmon en Salsa Caribe and Carne Asada, while friends had Chicken Quesadilla & Ceviche - only complaint being the ceviche did not come with chips or something to scoop with. I'm a fan of the fried bronzino with plantain, beans and avocado salad. The fish was borderline of over cooked but made the cut. The beans have a little flavor as well. We ordered drinks and we ordered the tower with premium liquor. I want to say maybe 4 of us shared it and we at least got 2 cups out of it. I also had a frozen margarita. As soon as you park in the lot you can smell the food. This place was pretty spacious and it was busy, but the service was really good. We were served chips and salsa as soon as we sat down. It was pretty good. For drinks we had the sangria and a pina colada. They were both really good but the pina colada was my favorite. For entres we had the carne asada and the mar y Tierra. This place is a really spacious and a cozy location. Parking is ample and the food and vibe was great. I enjoyed the Lomo Saltado and salad, we were there to meet some friends and the environment was just right for a great conversation without any loud background noises. There was a birthday gathering that had the employees banging on loud pots and pans which was similar to a mariachi, but not quite as nice, a real mariachi singer and instruments would have been really good. We asked to combine two tables for more space and were denied. Asked for a larger table in the main area but they do not accommodate Happy Hour in their main area. My mom and I decided to go and we can surely say we were NOT disappointed! The food had a great flavor to them, service was quick and easy, and the ambiance of the bar area, where we always sit at, is such a vibe and a fun time. There's the bar area which is a bit small compared to the size of the restaurant, and then there's the main dining area which is huge. We sat in the main dining area since the bar was packed on a Thursday evening. They have different specials throughout the week and offer what looked to be a decent HH. The fajitas were two thumbs up and so were the margaritas. If it's two or more people I'd recommend getting a pitcher. read more

I ordered the sample platter- the taquito and quesadilla were tasty, but the wings were so salty it was to the point it was inedible. We arrived after 8pm on a Friday night. Parking lot was packed! We were told it would be a 20 minute wait for a table for two. I don't think we waited more than 10 minutes. After being seated, we were greeted by the server quickly for our drink order. Chips and a BOWL of salsa quickly followed (thank you. My husband never leaves me any salsa). I ordered a combination plate with a beef enchilada, chile relleno with beef, and a chicken tamale. My favorite was the enchilada... meat was tender (not ground) in a rich sauce. Tamale was least favorite. I like my cornmeal to have some texture. This almost looked like play dough. I didn't have room to try the rice and beans, but look forward to the leftovers. Extremely loud and very popular for birthdays. We saw at least six tables with servers singing. Service was attentive and friendly. I usually love having the Spanish rice and refried beans on the side at other Mexican restaurants but I can absolutely tell they use microwaveable minute rice. Very disappointed about that. There wasn't a single thing we didn't like. Everything was very flavorful, hot, and well prepared. This last part might not sound like a big deal, but because we drank so much we thought it would be a good idea to hit the restroom before heading out. IT WAS SPOTLESS!!! Attended CHidos lastnight on a Tuesday for happy hour with a colleague. I will always return on a Tuesday as it was refreshing the full happy hour list but also the Tuesday special which included 5 taco shells of your choice and 4 meats. The meats included chicken, chorizo, steak, and carnitas with pickled onions, cilantro, and raw onions with lime for that extra touch and salsa verde and the lovely mango habenero sauce all for $11. The portion was enough for me to have plenty to take home and I still had about 3 taco shells left. Such generous portions and the meat was seasoned well. Staying in town for business at a hotel down the street and I drove by this place a couple of times, never saw it NOT busy... so of course I gotta hit up the joint and see what they're serving up! I walked in on a Saturday about 6:30 PM and was immediately greeted by the hostess. This place is HUGE - and it was packed, so it was very loud inside. I asked if I could be seated on the patio, which they were only too happy to do and let me pick where I wanted to sit. If you're going for happy hour, the bar is to the left when you enter the restaurant, and the people there seemed to be having a great time. My server, Emily, was prompt and very friendly, and the obligatory chips and salsa arrived within two minutes of sitting down. She took my drink order and allowed me time to peruse the menu, which has all of your standard Tex-Mex favorites but a bit more elevated. You won't find a Speedy Gonzales on the menu here. The drinks are a little more expensive than you'd find at your average Mexican spot, as well. I went with one of my standby orders, the Tacos al Pastor, although the Lomo Saltados was calling out as well. I was expecting small portions given the price but I was surprised to see two platters arrive, one with the charro beans and rice, and another larger one with three HUGE tacos and an array of salsas to try. The tacos were juicy, full of tropical flavor and had a little twist with pickled red onions as opposed to the white onions you usually see. Everything was very tasty, and for under $30 a person you get a LOT of food. Definitely worth a stop if you're in the area - but the patio is a must, as it's just too loud indoors. read more

Took our party forever to park. On a nice day lots of ppl park here to go to the lake. There are signs everywhere but they are ignored. Our large party couldn't imagine that it was so busy inside. When we stepped in, we were transported into a Tex med restaurant done right. There were birthdays galore, a proposal, with everyone enjoying themselves!
