This is a great spot for your quick food fix! My homie grabbed the 3 piece whiting with 3 piece wings platter and I copped some Honey Lemon Pepper and Wings with Mumbo Sauce. Delicious! Fall through.

The best. I went last night with my friend and I got the salmon (which my friend recommended), the mac n cheese and collard greens. I also got the Oreo cake at the end. I go to a lot of high end restaurants and that was one of the best salmons I've had in a long time. It was high end taste and high end quality. I was blown away. Everything was perfect and the collard greens were the best I've had in a long time, maybe ever. This is my go to.

Really good fish it was seasoned to perfection tastes light and non greasy. The onion rings were good too! Not mushy and a nice crunch. Service was fast. The corn bread was a hit with me. The ambiance wasn't bad for a carry out. I do recommend that you try the fish.

Writing this review is hard! I watched as the restaurant went up, opened it doors, and survived the first wave of COVID-19. I kept thinking I hope this black owned business makes it and was happy to have it in my back yard. We decided to place an order and give it a try. I was a little suspicious when I saw the variety of items on the menu, but thought this place must know what they are doing. Offering fried fish, collard greens, gizzards, turkey wings, and more! Upon arrival, I learned the business is not a black owned business and I was instantly disappointed! There is someone trying to benefit off of the cultural title of Soul Food! Soul Food is a generational, it is relational, it is emotional, it speaks to your spirit and soul hints the name Soul Food! This was none of that! It was an imposter trying to take on the moniker and essence of something that cannot be replicated. Someone trying to take yet another thing from the rich culture of the lock community. The fish did not have flavor, onion rings were soggy and not breaded well. The sweet potato pie was blah and crust moist. The fries were okay, greens too disappointing to even try, and yellow cake was a no! The corn was off too, my two year old gave it a strong pass! Unfortunately, nothing was a homer to me! It does offer variety and quick service, but it misses all the marks of flavor and speaking to your soul! There are other places like MidAtlantic Seafood that I would prefer, because it seems more authentic and you know up front what you are getting versus a "branding" attempt gone wrong.

I've been watching this space for a while, since I often visit the Aldi in the big shopping center across Route 1. Saw the lights on and gave it a try. Small spot in a small strip. All the tables are pushed back against the wall for carry out only, plastic partitions up to the ceiling and a bottle of hand sanitizer on the counter. Masks on all staff, gloves on the cooks. Refrigerated case in front full fresh filets, and a smaller one with deserts. Unexpectedly given the name, the staff all appear to be Asian. Obvious choice is fried fish. Very fresh, just enough batter to be crisp, unseasoned black eye peas a bit overcooked, cabbage substituted for sold out greens. Large serving size. Decent deal for $11 but not up to Mid-Atlantic quality. Wings, fried chicken, and a few meat dishes also available. Delivery by Über, Doordash, and Grubhub.

    Oxtail Platter Dinner

Hadn't eaten all day and decided to take a second chance on Soul Boat for Sunday dinner. I ordered the oxtail with yams and Mac and cheese. Nothing on my plate had any flavor to say the least. Cooked well however, very bland. Yams literally had no sugar, vanilla, no flavor what so ever. The Mac and cheese taste worse then box Mac and cheese. I'm very disappointed with my meal and will not visit this restaurant to eat ever again. I will mention that their customer service is up to par, the lady at the front is very nice and has no issues explaining anything. I just wish they'd season their food. Would make the difference. Best of luck Soul Boat!

I had high hopes for this place, after seeing some mixed reviews on Facebook. Unfortunately, I ended up being very disappointed. This is a small takeout style shop, with plexiglass all across the counter and a little door for handing out food. Everyone had on masks and they had 6 ft markers on the floor. Wasn't worried about COVID safety, but still walked to my car to wait after I ordered. The best things we had were the onion rings, which were on point and super crispy, and the cornbread which was super tasty. I would rate the Mac & Cheese at like a 7/10, not the best but respectable. As for the fish, it was fried well and perfectly cooked, but lacked any semblance of seasoning. It was super disappointing, I couldn't even fix it by adding hot sauce, it was that bland. And as far as the "sandwich" on white bread goes... well you can see for yourself. I figured a catfish sandwich would come assembled, with some kind of sauce, maybe some tomato or lettuce, but they literally put a piece of catfish and two slices of bread in the box. I thought it was some kind of joke at first. This place isn't *bad* but it isn't something worth going back to regularly. I'm most likely to pass if I want soul food, or drive further to get something more legit.

Ox tail with gravy sauce on top of white rice w side of Mac n cheese.
    Douglas S.

The ox tail was delicious. The gravy sauce complimented the ox tail so well. The white rice with the gravy sauce on top was amazing. The mac n cheese was pretty good as well. A little dry but it did have flavor. The wings were good as well. Flavorful. French fries were descent. French fries that you would expect for any carry out type spot. Overall the food was good. I would def come back for that ox tail. So darn good!

So...I was very hesitant to try this place out based on previous reviews, but I thought...what the heck, let me see for myself what this place is about! My "friend" mentioned having fried fish for dinner and that idea sounded good!! But due to playing nurse to the kid, I didn't want to venture to my favorite places to get fried fish! Soul Boat is located in a tiny strip mall along Route 1! The parking lot was extra small just as a heads up! Prior to heading there, I located their menu and placed a call to order ahead! I hate waiting on food orders! The young lady who answered the phone was very pleasant and said right away if she could place me on hold to finish taking another order! My first thought was that this was a good sign, they're busy busy! So I placed my order of the 2 piece catfish dinner with french fries and coleslaw! I also ordered 6 honey lemon pepper wings! The young lady gave me the order number which so happened to be the last 4 digits of my phone number! LoL When I arrived my order was ready to go! Clean transaction with no incidents! However, the food is just blah!! The catfish was not very tender and lacked flavor!! The French fries were your standard dry tail crinkle cut fries! I should have asked for the condiment, saltpepperketchup! However I didn't realize it would lack at least salt! So this was a bust!! I also checked out my honey lemon pepper wings! These things were dripping in honey and where was the lemon pepper! I didn't eat much of this food! Such a disappointing order! I will not come back! I will go further for better food!!

Will not return to this establishment, if you looking for a soul food experience pass this place not soul food Own and operated by Asian, no issue with Asian but they need a big come up to get this food on the soul food level, don't let the name fool you

They have an extensive menu and they answered all my questions. We got fried scallops, which were big and juicy. Not overcooked! Paired well the sauces available near the door, and my favorite was a mix of cocktail sauce and the hot sauce. The fried oysters were my favorite though. We also liked the crab balls, and the Maryland crab soup which came with big pieces of crab. The sides of collard greens and Mac and cheese definitely hit the spot. The steamed Cajun mussels were big in portion and delicious too. We were only visiting for a short time but I wish I tried their desserts and chicken wings and seafood boil. The little bottles with alcohol on the side (rum punch , jungle juice, etc) were so good too. Those are dangerous, they don't even taste like alcohol! I ordered the stuffed flounder with two sides. I got collard greens and brussel sprouts. Also ordered a small Maryland crab soup. My partner got the shrimp and scallops over rice and ordered a side of green beans with mushrooms. Everything was outstanding. My flounder was broiled nicely and there were what seemed to be three filets in the order. The stuffing (crab meat) was a huge portion of what seemed to be just crab. I kept looking for mayo or filler and didn't see anything. It was delicious. The collard greens and brussel sprouts - huge portion of each - were both very good. I liked the fact that the greens were not swimming in pork fat and didn't have anything in them but tasty greens. My partner enjoyed their scallops and shrimp. The rice was even in texture and flavorful. The Maryland crab soup had at least 4 large chunks of crab in addition to veggies. Delicious broth with old bay flavor. There's a sauce station with Mambo sauce, cocktail sauce, tartar sauce, hot sauce and ketchup. I tried all the sauces and they were good. Cocktail sauce had a good amount of horseradish in it. The place itself is set up like a huge cafeteria. You walk in and order at a counter, then pass a variety of the entrees and sides. They all looked fresh and good. Large. Well lit seating area. You seat yourself and pick up your order when it's ready (a sign displays the order numbers when they are ready). The place is clean and I enjoyed the variety of music playing throughout our meal. Some Luther Vandross, Chicago, and other tunes from the same time period. Really pleasant. There's an active bar with happy hour food and drinks. The bar was hopping when we were there.

Usually with brunch we would do the bottomless mimosas and all but because I was driving I decided not to participate in that. And usually I would get chicken and waffles but I was in the mood for a burger. So I thought because their name is "Mad Cow" the burger would be the bomb...but nope it was not good at all. So I prefer a beef burger cooked medium with blue cheese, mayo, lettuce, tomato, and onions. When I burger got tot the table it was dry as a board. No blue cheese that I paid extra for and the burger was not cooked correctly it was cooked well done. Smdh. So the waiter brought me my blue cheese apologized about it and also gave me a mayo bottle. Even with the burger still was not good and the patty was so thick with no flavor not even salt and pepper was in it!! I tried their punch drink which was really good but for $15 a pop in a regular water glass was ridiculous. Make sure you don't get too tipsy as they already have like a 20% gratuity added on each of our checks no matter how small or big your group is which again is ridiculous! Today, I gave them another shot because Uber Eats was offering a buy one, get one free deal on the jerk chicken meal. I chose rice & peas with plantain for my sides. The chicken was cooked on the grill--which I love--because it really brings out the flavor in jerk chicken. I also requested my jerk sauce on the side since I prefer a dry rub style over a saucy one. The only drawback was the small bone pieces in the chicken and rice. That's something to be cautious about, especially if a child is eating the meal. The plantains were also inconsistent--some pieces were hard, while others were mushy. On the bright side, the coco bread was perfect and the Jamaican rum cake was phenomenal. Whoever baked that cake clearly took their time soaking it in rum. It reminded me of the way my grandmother used to make it--absolutely delicious. I would definitely order the rum cake again.

My schedule was rearranged last minute on a Saturday so I decided to catch their brunch. The laurel location was the closest to me. There was live jazz playing. I sat at the bar - shout out to Nnamdi who was the bartender and my waiter. Food wise: brunch only offers the $55 unlimited food option for two hours. I was completely fine with this as I was able to taste multiple dishes. I had the fried deviled eggs, Rockefeller oysters, bang bang shrimp, deep fried snow crab legs, pork chop and grits, wings in hot honey lemon pepper (their signature sauce) and the white chocolate bread pudding I enjoyed everything except the deep fried crab legs. The cluster was hallow. I had more fried batter than crab meat. Deviled eggs were my favorite of all the things I tried. And the bread pudding was sinfully delicious . I wasn't able to finish my last two items ordered but luckily I was able to fit it in the to-go box. Most places that serve unlimited food don't allow to-go boxes so I was happy to not have my leftovers go to waste. I opted for the bottomless cocktails as well. I didnt know what exactly happened with tje packaging, so since I was told the problem was "fixed", I took my food and left. The worst part was the deviled egg appetizer. Another casualty of the kitchen, apparently. It looked unappetizing when I got home and opened it, and the crab topping that I paid an extra $3 for gave off a very strong smell (reminiscent of the kitchen of a seafood restaurent) and also appeared wet. I'd guess they took crab straight from a can, put it on top of the eggs, and covered it with old bay seasoning. Very disappointing. Sadly these were not the only issues, as the collard greens themselves were bland and a little tough. There was also a wooden stick in my greens?? Not sure why. Although the catfish was fried well, that's the only satisfactory thing about this experience, and everything else ruined it.
