My family and I tried this new Miss Toya's location for the first time recently for a Sunday dinner. The restaurant was surprisingly empty, but the service was exceptional. We were celebrating my dad's birthday and our server brought out a sign that said "Happy Birthday Dad" for the occasion. He was kind and courteous throughout the meal despite also bartending at the time. The food was rich, but quite tasty. Everyone loved everything we tried - from the spinach dip appetizer to the various entrees. Everything was seasoned really well and cooked to perfection. My partner commented that the roast chicken was really moist and juicy. My sister got the fried chicken which was sooo crispy and packed with flavor. My salmon (pictured) was a hefty portion and really flavorful. Nearly everyone had leftovers, which definitely justified the pricing. If you like bread pudding, don't skip dessert! Takeout experience was not good. I arrived to see the hostess mopping up a mess on the pickup counter that apparently came from my order. She said"the kitchen" messed up packing my order but instead of sending it back, she "fixed it". Honestly it seemed like she was trying to get me my food on time, but management should have been called to solve this problem and ensure I didnt leave the restaurant with collard greens missing all their juices. I didnt know what exactly happened with tje packaging, so since I was told the problem was "fixed", I took my food and left. The worst part was the deviled egg appetizer. Another casualty of the kitchen, apparently. It looked unappetizing when I got home and opened it, and the crab topping that I paid an extra $3 for gave off a very strong smell (reminiscent of the kitchen of a seafood restaurent) and also appeared wet. I'd guess they took crab straight from a can, put it on top of the eggs, and covered it with old bay seasoning. Very disappointing. Sadly these were not the only issues, as the collard greens themselves were bland and a little tough. There was also a wooden stick in my greens?? Not sure why. I really have been under a rock! I had been mistakenly avoiding Miss Toya's chain but I need to make up for loss time and so should you if you haven't been. My schedule was rearranged last minute on a Saturday so I decided to catch their brunch. The laurel location was the closest to me. I was able to reserve a spot at the bar on open table about an hour before arrival . It must have been a lucky day for me because there were plenty vacancies and I didn't need to make a reservation. There was live jazz playing. I sat at the bar - shout out to Nnamdi who was the bartender and my waiter. Food wise: brunch only offers the $55 unlimited food option for two hours. I was completely fine with this as I was able to taste multiple dishes. I had the fried deviled eggs, Rockefeller oysters, bang bang shrimp, deep fried snow crab legs, pork chop and grits, wings in hot honey lemon pepper (their signature sauce) and the white chocolate bread pudding I enjoyed everything except the deep fried crab legs. The cluster was hallow. I had more fried batter than crab meat. Deviled eggs were my favorite of all the things I tried. And the bread pudding was sinfully delicious . I wasn't able to finish my last two items ordered but luckily I was able to fit it in the to-go box. Most places that serve unlimited food don't allow to-go boxes so I was happy to not have my leftovers go to waste. I opted for the bottomless cocktails as well. I stuck to the mimosas and tried the different flavors. The pours were generous. Nnamdi was very attentive and I appreciate him answering all of my clarifying questions as it was my first time. Tried Miss Toya's Creole House for the second time and overall, it's not bad, it just doesn't quite move me. I'm not overly hyped about Cajun/Creole inspired dishes to begin with, and many of the plates lean heavy on cream based sauces that feel a bit overpowering after a few bites. I ordered the blackened chicken pasta, which wasn't bad at all, but again very rich and cream forward. My partner enjoyed the gumbo and said it was pretty good, just on the heavier side (which is expected with Southern dishes ). That said, the service was awesome and the restaurant was very clean, which I always appreciate. I enjoyed my time, but as someone from the South, I'm not easily influenced by Southern restaurants. Had a very mixed experience here. As a first time guest here are the pros & cons Pros: -Food is bomb! Everything I had was good. The southern dishes are where they really shine -Our waiter was very gracious and had to balance 4-5 tables so I give grace since it was out of his control. He was really sweet -Parking is pretty easy, free and straightforward since it's in a shopping plaza. Plenty of spaces nearby -The idea of bottomless brunch is enticing. Great idea! -live music was great but can make it hard to hear/have conversations -Management did a great job of rectifying my friend's food issue Cons: -One of my friends had a worm in their oyster and the crab legs weren't seasoned at all (wouldn't recommend the crab legs at all) -Wait times are LONG. Prepare to wait 30 mins to an hour on Sunday for your food. Reservations are also hard to snag. -20% automatic gratuity no matter the party size -Have very small to go containers so it's basically all you can eat in that 2 hours and you can only take the last plate home -Overall I don't think I would go back to that location. They also have a closer location to me in Baltimore I would maybe try. (I did end up getting sick later but I'm not sure if it was their fault). The food was absolutely delicious. For $55 it's a bit steep but it is bottomless. I got the peach cobbler French toast which was a bit dry but good, scrambled eggs, catfish & grits, and the fried deviled eggs. I hate doing this BUT this is our platform to make businesses do better. I've dined at the Silver Spring location a few times and the DC location once and both were strong 4 star performers. After seeing the reels for their unlimited brunch, a brotha had to drive from damn near Waldorf to Laurel to check this location out. Only reservation seating for the tables, I was lucky that ONE seat was open at the small ten person bar. I ordered the $55 unlimited brunch and the bottomless Mimosas for an additional $25. Jordan was great. She explained the unlimited food experience, which was unique to say the least. I wondered, does the owner want folks to come back or just want a one and done?!? From the menu, you can only order one item at a time and can't place another order until you've finished the majority of your food. So, if you ordered deviled eggs (3), you'd have to finish those to order wings... Whewwww! So I went through that iteration 6 to seven times. Oysters Rockefeller, crab legs (waste of time.. One small cluster that was mushy), charbroiled oysters, fried deviled eggs and topped it off with my entrée.. Steak and eggs. Honestly, I could have done the oysters and the fried crab topped deviled eggs and called it a day. I ordered my steak medium and it came out well done with NO flavor. I already told you about those sorry azz crab legs. The couple beside me didn't heed my warning before they ordered the crab legs.. they only ate half of theirs.. Told ya! I went for brunch in Sunday in April 2026. The food was terrible. The service was worse. It was bottomless plates and we left hungry. Things were flavorless. The friend chicken had too much breading. Also.. the server kept standing around in the bar area watching the tables but not CHECKING on the tables. We were there for 2.5 hours and she never once filled up our water glasses without me asking. The saxophonist was great but much too loud. I can't say enough about this place. The food is delicious. This is the second time I've visited and the great service has been consistent. I love, love , love the hot honey salmon bites. Golden fried then sprinkled with a hot honey sauce. A must try for an appetizer. I've also tried the sweet potatoes. So good ! I decided to order the fried catfish dinner. Our waitress, was pleasant enough. Although she did not smile a lot, she did what we asked her to do... nothing more/nothing less! After talking to her, we later found out that she was a little bit overwhelmed. That is understandable. We all have bad days. Now, the food was pretty good. We sampled a number of the Starters as well as a few of the Entrées. The number one selection that we all agreed on was the fried deviled eggs. They were amazing. Next on our "favorites" list was the wings. We went with the honey, lemon pepper flavor. They were cooked to perfection and very flavorful. The starter shrimp dish was also absolutely amazing. As for our main course, we sampled the catfish and grits, the pork chops and grits, the steak and eggs, the crab legs, and the waffles with honey chicken. Everything that we tried was pretty good. The only item that was not a favorite was the shrimp and grits. This location of Miss Toya's has an open concept. I would not recommend this location if you want to engage in conversation where you really need to focus and be able to hear. This location is pretty noisy. However, it is great for a girls or guys brunch, or an adult family get together after church. By the time we left, just about all of the tables were full. I would strongly advise making reservations. By the way, they offer bottomless drinks with brunch for an additional $25. I would venture to say, the drinks are made well. Never heard of such a thing as a bottomless brunch till I arrived for my reservation at Miss Toya's. But, hey, don't threaten me with a good time. The menu offers a wide variety of comfort food options: fried catfish and grits (delish), bang bang shrimp (yum), steak and eggs, blueberry cornbread muffins, bread pudding, crab legs, and a number of other tasty entrees and starters. The catfish also had a noticeable sour taste that seemed off and affected the overall flavor. Unfortunately, both issues took away from what could have been an enjoyable dining experience. And the bananas that you think are going to be sliced and put on top are not in fact on top. They are cooked in the strawberry sauce drenched on the French toast. Can I repeat that there's no crunch? All the food came out room temp. Like the grits were pretty good except they were room temp. The smashed burger is NOT smashed. And it was so so dry, my family kept joking it was made from underground beef (not ground beef... Get it? ...meh). The chicken sandwich was actually pretty okay. I would try it again. And I think they got the fries down! They were so good. The only thing that we enjoyed? My berry pancakes and the home fries. They came out hot (I think only because they were late) and were so soft. I've visited the Laurel location numerous times. During my last visit Tuesday July 21. It was rainy. I arrived with my 78 year old mother. The restaurant was extremely cold. We were seated but decided to order our food to go. Shrimp n grits, sweet potatoes, greens and passion sweet tea. We received our food to go but we were also charged 20% gratuity. Food was good although some of our people complained of there fish and oxtails being a little salty. I had the pork chops, Mac and yams. I've been to a couple Miss Toya's locations but this was my first time at the Laurel location. It was a quieter weekday evening, so our food came out pretty fast. I ordered the fried catfish dinner with Mac n cheese and collards, and also a cornbread to go. I absolutely loved the collards and cornbread, and the Mac n cheese was pretty good too. The catfish had a lot of breading with very little fish inside. It felt like I just kept eating the breading. The fish was also very soft, leading me to think that it was overcooked. Being that the catfish was deeply fried, it probably was. I really don't enjoy doing this, but I feel as though in these days and times, when we spend our hard-earned $$, it's natural to have that great quality of service expectation. I was excited to celebrate my cousin's birthday here! Despite the server being great, and the live music guitarist/singer who was great as well, the food was just 'ok'. It didn't seem freshly prepared. We did the bottomless brunch and bottomless mimosas for the bday celebration, and besides the chicken and waffles which was actually pretty good, it almost seemed like the rest of the food was thawed in the microwave. Came to this location about 2 weeks after they opened and they were understaffed :( It was an early Sunday afternoon and the hostess had no menus to provide. We had to wait to see a physical menu because the online menu at the time didn't have all the items. It was an appetizer & sides kind of day, nothing too heavy and no alcohol. Our server was also the bartender. I gave him many kudos for handling it all because he had about 6-8 tables including mine so we gave him some grace by being patient. My friend and I shared the fried deviled eggs, salmon bites, seafood egg roll, side of cabbage and greens. Loved the veggies and the non-alcoholic strawberry pineapple drink but the fried food just all tasted too-fried, like cooked in the same oil right after one another. I came back! This time, I let the hostess seat me, and it was just as good as the first time. I ordered the fried snapper with mac and cheese, cabbage, and cornbread, and I went with a soft drink to wash it all down. The red snapper was absolutely delicious--seasoned to perfection! I was super excited to try this place it's been on my list for years and I finally had the chance today. Unfortunately I won't be back. Service was slow and lackluster. We caught them on a shift change and it was clear the first bartender was trying to close out and leave but the second bartender had no urgency in taking us over. He said as much when the first bartender directly asked him. Appetizers came out super slow and the oysters felt like a cheap knockoff of the real thing. Cheese was dried out and hard, oysters themselves were small. Somehow my seafood rolls came out room temp even though we waited 20+ for them. The spinach dip didn't have a crust over it as I'd seen in pictures but was good. My boyfriend's shrimp and grits was just ok and my food was decent. The Mac and cheese was just a bunch of cheese and noodles--no real flavor outside of the cheese and it was so much cheese it started to be gunky. The catfish was fried perfectly and buttery flaky. The yams-- could eat those all day they were good. Drinks were decent. All that said, there were too many misses to compel me to be back soon. & what sealed the deal on me not coming back at all was after our meal when I finally went into the restroom. Exposed wires, dusty, broken paper towel dispenser hanging down the wall with no paper towels, and an almost empty bottle of soft soap that I barely wanted to touch. And the restaurant was moderately clean inside , but you wouldn't know it from the dirt and smudges on the entry door. storefront first appearances matter. The service was also horrific slow, though they did not seem to be terribly busy or particularly understaffed. The kitchen was also ridiculously slow . Other guest were loud and obnoxiously uncivil (not directly the restaurants fault but a place that was well managed would've had a manager intervene for the comfort of other guests) some of the food at promise most of it was either over season or in one instance likely cause food poisoning to one of my fellow diners. When we first walked in we could have been greeted better but after we sat down the young man who served us was also the bartender and he did a tremendous job of service. He made us perfect drinks and explained to us all the questions we had about the menu. The food came out in a timely manner and it was extremely good. We purchased about 300 dollars worth of food. Of course half of it was to go because we just wanted to support the buisness. The oxtail was outstanding with a large portion and the lamb Chops were excellent. The seafood lasagna was very tasty. We got a lot of food so check out the pictures The only issue we had was when we were leaving we asked for a reservation for Sunday the 19th of October for 10 am and was told that the reservation was put in for 10 am only to find out several hours later that they were booked for the rest of the month. I have no clue why they wouldn't tell us while we were standing in front of them that they were booked. None to less it was very disappointing. Other than that the food and bartender/ server was very impressive. After the brunch situation not sure if I will return but its a must try restaurant btw the bartender/ server hooked us up with some banana pudding and I love banana pudding and this was one of the best I ever had. I came here to celebrate my friend's birthday. The atmosphere is cute and the drinks were pretty but that's about it. I didn't receive my full order and I was actually happy because I was so displeased with my first plate. Shrimp is not fresh and tasted like it was fried with other seafood. One of my favorite places to eat in laurel when I want some comfort food! Fried green tomatoes are amazing especially with the crab on top. The seafood Mac and cheese is the perfect amount of cheesiness and a seasonings. Sweet potatoes amazing! Collard greens taste like true southern collards with the apple cider vinegar. I've had the lamb chops which were huge. The service is a little slow as it is a small business but I def believe they can up the requirements for servers and bartenders. Ambiance is just regular at this particular location. If you are looking for a more aesthetically pleasing location try downtown silver spring. First I want to highlight the customer service and management as there was a mishap with my meal and they were excellent at rectifying the issue. That type of service deserves extra ratings in itself. We had a few items that were all prepared well, tender with fair portions. The salmon bites were tiny, overly salty with a tasty sweet sauce. They were was a good bit of fatty skin on it which added tenderness but was a bit much for some. Not a favorite. Fish and cheese grits were good. Tender and flavorful. One order came out with a sauce poured on it, the other came without so I'm not sure how it should be. I'd keep the sauce on the side to keep the fish crispy. The gumbo had a nice portion of meat which was tender. There was a good bit of a mild creole sauce but no spice for those who really desire a kick. Side dishes: The sweet potato were a hit with flavor throughout, moist but no gooey coating. The greens were tasty with a little kick. The cabbage was moist, tender with mild seasoning. A little onion might enhance it. The mac and cheese was better than most venues and good enough to get the job done. The cornbread was a hit with the honey base.
