They let me book a reservation. I got there and they were closed. I even had to confirm my reservation the day before.

My grilled chicken was moist, flavorful, and cooked very well. The fried catfish was not too salty and had great balance where you can taste the fish. The mac and cheese, cabbage, and green beans were all of nice quality, the weakest link is the potato salad, however that is a dish that can be complicated for different restaurants to get the hang of, fortunately I can prepare some awesome potato salad myself. The peach half and half drinks were balanced perfectly well not too sugary and sweet. I swear some of these places make drinks way too sweet and you want to check your insulin levels. The server was highly attentive and a great conversationalist and paid attention to our wants and needs and had superb professionalism and a strong work ethic. He was hospitable and accommodating. The staff was friendly and approachable. We had fun and enjoyed this more than Milk and Honey and even Carolina Kitchen. DC keeps gentrifying and losing its soul, but there are still some hidden gems around. This spot blends in with the Walmart, and funnily enough I have driven past here a gazillion of times and assumed it was some bakery or another spot and did not know it was a soul food joint, something DC has been minimizing and pushing out to Maryland like the city always does. I think it is masterful that they use clear plastic containers for their food making it easier for the staff as that can be expensive and time consuming with the dish washing/prep, sound economical move. It is nice that the business (U Street etc. location) has been in the DMV for over 20 years and expanded to Baltimore in Fells Point. I think Baltimore will like this spot! This felt authentic and soulful in a way that I had not experienced in the city in quite some time, as the city has had a lot of restaurants be sterile, bland, flavorless, and catered to certain demographics while completely ignoring others. I liked the soundtrack with R&B and was able to hear some TLC on the soundtrack which was very nostalgic and a throwback to DC before the gentrification when it was truly Chocolate City! Overall, it is a spot that you can visit more than once certainly not a one and done like a lot of restaurants that lack service, food, and ambiance/vibe.

At that time, I was upset about what happened with George Floyd a week earlier; still in 2026, it was wrong what happened to Floyd (not to mention more recent news that happened in that city was horrible too). I hung out with a friend on that warm day having a beer outside his apartment in Takoma Park. He is a mega-leftist politically (I'm more independent), but said he wanted to support a black-owned business; I said that's a good idea; I might do that for dinner. He was doing his own thing for dinner, so I was on my own. So, I looked up on Yelp what was in the area, and I saw just across the border in DC, Oohh's & Aahh's. Staff was nice, and I got a fried chicken platter. As this was Covid times, there was no dine-in. So, I schlepped all the way straight up Georgia Ave 6 miles back to my home in Wheaton fairly quickly on that Sunday as I don't like my food getting cold. I think my food stayed pretty hot as it was well-wrapped, and if it had cooled off, I could always microwave at home. The fried chicken, mac n' cheese (my favorite vegetable...I know not really a veggie but a joke), etc. were all solid. If I was ever over here, I'd consider coming back; just so rare I go to DC these days.

We went here recently & were very happy with the experience…read more The biggest plus for us is they have excellent fried chicken. It's crispy on the outside & juicy on the inside. An order includes 2 pieces, each of them a breast & sort of a small leg attached (yes, that sounds weird but it's the best description I can come up with). An order comes with mashed potatoes & gravy on the side + collard greens. We each took one piece of chicken home for a second meal. On the down side, we weren't keen on the fried green tomato appetizer. It consisted mostly of heavy breading. Next time we're going to try the catfish fingers instead.

While our server was great and very attentive, unfortunately, the food left a lot to be desired. For the evening we tried the Devil Shrimp which is crab stuffed shrimp that came with spinach and mac & cheese. While the stuffed shrimp were delicious the mac and cheese not so much. I hate to say this but it was a step up from box Kraft mac & cheese. The Grilled lamb chops were served with roasted fingerling potatoes and sauteed green beans. While the lamb chops were plentiful and we appreciated that, again the sides that accompanied the dish lacked flavor. To be an upscale Southern cuisine restaurant they missed the mark on some of the staples sides and that was a little disheartening.

Well, they don't have rabbits, rams, or lambs, but you get the picture. This is a little carryout restaurant just outside the downtown area. There is metered street parking on the road out front and within a reasonable walking distance. They do not have a dining area. This is a carryout-only place. I was on a tight schedule, so I ordered online ahead of time. I scheduled my order for pickup at 5. They have music playing on a little speaker, and the woman working there was friendly. I ordered the beef ribs with a side of mac and cheese and collard greens. I got an additional side of cornbread stuffing. I arrived at 5, and my food was not ready. It was not even prepared until I got there. I did not get out of there until about 520, mind you; I had pre-scheduled a 5 PM pickup. The food traveled well and was delicious. I loved every item. They were all so flavorful. It was also a ton of food. The stuffing was really good. The ribs were amazing, and the collard greens were just like Mom used to make. And the mac and cheese was fire. I really enjoyed my meal here. I highly recommend checking this place out and look forward to going back there real soon. They have some of the best soul food that I have ever had. It would have easily been a 5-star joint if my order had been ready at the scheduled time.

The turkey wings were fall-off-the-bone tender and covered in rich, flavorful gravy that was perfect over the rice. Upon arrival there's some seats but it doesn't really feel like homey. It was spacious but didn't feels welcoming to make me want to stay and eat. I was alone and sometimes I like to stay and eat instead of take out. Nonetheless there was a small window to view some of what they have but it's manly just menu to go off from. I waited about 10m after I ordered my food which was pretty fast. Now for the food, the Turkey Wings were flavorful, not super juicy but it wasn't tough or dry either. The smothered was smothering for sure, thegravy was a bit lighter than I was expecting but nothing to cray. I ordered a side or Mac & Collards and the wings come on top of a bed of rice. Mac was cool & cheesy, collards were great too even without pork. I look forward to trying them again but I do wish the seating was more restaurant instead of hookah lounge.
