The staff were kind and fast with things. The portion was quite large, which I wasn't expecting. The poisson was quite good with the sauce provided. I found the veggies that came with the rice seasoned quite nicely too. We did also try the turkey creole, which was a tad bit dry, but still good. Plantains and rice were standard in my opinion. The food was good, although I thought the portion of turkey was a bit small for the price. The rhum cake was kind of dry and seemed like it was missing the icing. I was a bit annoyed that the website isn't current. The prices on the physical menu were about $5 higher on some items than the online menu. Hands down the food is GOOD!! The banan, pate, turkey, the rice...it was all delicious. I didnt try everything on the menu but what I did have made me go back every single day during my short visit to Maryland. The restaurant itself is old looking nothing I would go to for a vibe or celebration just pick up my yummy food and leave. While in DC, I decided to check out Gisele. I love some excellent Haitian food! I'm glad I did. The menu was limited, as expected, but I was highly disappointed that it did not have griot( fried pork) and dire djonjon (black rice), two staples in Haitian cuisine. Nevertheless, we ordered oxtail stew and legumes to my daughter's pleasure. Taste: as mentioned earlier, the chef can throw down. The oxtail was savory with just the right amount of spices. The oxtail was lean with minimal fat yet flavorful with each bite. The aroma of the food enhances the orgasmic experience happening in your mouth. The restaurant located in Virginia, a 25 minutes drive outside of DC, offers a limited amount of parking and sitting. There is a small stage for a band, but one wasn't playing that night. I was surprised at how empty the place was on a Friday evening. The staff is friendly and attentive, with fast service. I recommend visiting Gisele if you are in the DC area. read more

A friend of mine wanted to try this spot so we did. When we arrived I found parking in the bank parking lot because it was closed. When we walked in the man behind the bar seemed to be rushing us to order and he was terrible with his customer service. I had to give it back to him to let him know and he calmed down a bit. In the restaurant they allowed you to eat inside or out so we chose out. The lady took our order and said it would be served in to go plates. I order the goat and red wine and my friend ordered the fish. The wine listed wasn't even available so I picked a red that might of been old lol smh. While waiting outside there was a nice breeze. The lady brought out our food and it was good. I even tasted the fish and it was really good. While the customer service was trash the food was good which is why I am giving this place 3 stars. read more

I'm so happy I got to try Gisele's restaurant. I called for a pickup order to which I was greeted with a friendly voice. Off the bat, that was a pleasant experience. When I arrived, my food was hot, boxed, and ready to go. Again, the employee was pleasant. They earned a few more points from me there. We ordered the goat and legume and each comes with a salad, rice and beans (sos pwa), Pikliz and plantains. For the cost of legume and goat, this a very generous platter. I didn't even finish it all, so I will have leftovers. Haitian food can be expensive, but they really do give you all the fixings. Everything was well seasoned and tasty. My only nit picky complaint would be that the plantains were sweet instead of your usual salty green ones. Again, that's me looking for a critique. My lady is from Haiti, and I'm Trinidadian, so our first expectation was to have flavorful food. We rarely go out to foreign restaurants, as we have been let down so many times; sadly to say. We ordered over $80 worth of food for the two of us. We both expected bad service, but not to the extent of the way the lady at the bar treated us. We walked in, and she looked at us as if we were not supposed to come in or she was mad that we did come. I thought we came in early, but it was already past 12:30pm. All of the food we ordered was basic and did not remind my lady of home. The legumes, which is one of my ladies' favorite food back home and my favorite food from Haiti, are (Djon Djon), which in layman terms is black rice that gets it'scolor from the mushrooms, which were flavorless My lady felt so ashamed of the food, as there was no seasoning or even the basics of salt in any of the food. The quantity of food was horrible, and honestly had me heated, because sadly to say I could have went to a carryout or fast food establishment to get better tasting food, a larger quantity for way less. We will NEVER attend this establishment again. We traveled from VA to Maryland to try and get quality or at least halfway decent food. This establishment must be open because of these high prices. I checked the kids' menu and it seemed to be very expensive. Gisele has come a long way since my first review. They've stepped their cocktail game up (woot woot) and now offer an array of various cocktail drinks and spruced up the food menu as well. Service has also gotten better, the servers are fast and friendly and a delight to be around. They still aren't serving pork products so we're still in need of finding a spot that serves griot. Overall the food is still amazing and I have yet to be disappointed in a dish I've ordered. Still some consistency needed with the mac and cheese portion, but I've found that if I let them know I want a good hearty corner or middle piece I'll get it. If you're looking for a little piece of home and/or to be around other Haitians and have a good time this is the place for you. We decided to try this restaurant at the recommendation of family friends. It's tucked away on a side street. There was no free parking or private lot only metered parking and a metered parking lot nearby. Great authentic Haitian food that you need to try if you are in the area. All of our meals were delicious and well seasoned. I had chicken, red beans and rice. Another person in my party had the goat with white rice and beans and another person had chicken and black rice. We don't get out much so when we do we both try to support local restaurants and try to dine at new places. After some research we landed on Gisele's. Let's just say we will never return. I'll bullet our list of concerns and end with the positives. Concerns: - they offered no water. The only water she offered us was tonic water. We had to eventually beg for a glass of tap water when my daughter started crying over the spicy food. -we ordered the stewed snapper...it was served to us cold. Cold fish that's supposed to be stewed?? Come on now. They "heated" it for us...so we are warmed snapper - the snapper was not fresh. We eat snapper quite often and the fish had a fishy taste to it. - we ordered rice and beans with our fish and I found hair in it. We told the waitress and she just said "I'll take it off the bill's and walked away. Well what was I supposed to eat? She didn't offer more rice... -when we received our bill they comped us one of the fish dishes, which I guess was nice, but the prices on the receipt for the fish and the side of rice and beans was higher than what was on the menu. I bring this up to the waiter and she tries to argue with me that the prices include tax. I told her to look at the receipt...taxes were reported on a separate line. - after our time and money spent...we left hungry. Terrible Good things: - the rice and beans were flavorful before we found hair in them. - we also liked the flavor of the Mac and cheese -the rum punch was pretty good. I don't know why most of these international restaurants do not represent their original culture with the spices and herbs to populate the proper taste that people look for when they decide to try a specific cuisine. The food is good, which makes up for the horrible service!! Let's see where should I begin. Went there for Mother's Day and upon walking in, the lady behind the counter looked at my husband and I as if we had 3 heads, or we were the landlord that came to collect the rent or something. No greeting, no smile, no welcoming greet just looking at us as if we weren't supposed to be there. It was weird!! Then it took about 15 mins for someone to come take our order. The one lady who waitresses takes her sweet old time seems to have a little attitude. We don't even live close, so to travel all the way there to get that type of service is unacceptable. I live in the neighborhood and had driven by GISELE'S often, always meant to try it. During this COVID-19 crisis, I have committed to support local restaurants as much as possible, especially those owned by POC. I placed my order via phone. I wanted the fritters with fish platter, but they only had a filet at the time. That was fine with me. I came about 15 min later (was told 20 min) and it was ready by the time I finished payment! Everything was delicious! The fish was tender & boneless, the marinade and fritters were flavorful, and the piklis was spicy but balanced out well. It came with fried plantain as well. But there is only so much that can be done in the moment to address each concern (no need to rehash). Also, I would like to commend the other owner for reaching out to me to discuss the concerns in private. he was very professional and responsive. In fact, I've been back to the restaurant several times since that first review and improvements were noted. The food is always ON POINT and FRESH. I've gotten use to the wait time, because it takes time to create greatness. The food served at this restaurant is by far the best Haitian food in the DMV area. The authenticity in the flavor profile coupled with the music selection and great service is what keeps me coming back to Giselle's. If you're Carribean or have experienced Haitian food in New York, Boston or Miami, there a certain nuances that come with the territory. But you also know when the food is good. The food is just good and everything else Doesn't even matter. Giselle's Haitian Cuisine, in my TOP three restaurant CHOICES and I am a hard customer to please. Everything I've tried is amazing. From the oxtails, snapper, turkey stew, macaroni and cheese, and custom drink choices i cant choose a favorite dish because everything I've eaten here is a FAVORITE. The food is AMAZING. We were a group of five and out of all of the dishes we ordered, one didn't live up to the menu description, taste or presentation. The restaurant refused to consider even a replacement (not a refund). According to the waitress, once it's out of the kitchen there is no refund. Black rice was tasty but received some hard pieces like the bottom of the pot. Goat was tasty but the quantify was not sufficient for the cost and as viewed in the picture , a lot of bones with minimal meat . Prices online menu is different when you go to the restaurant. The prices on line has not been changed to match prices in restaurant. Parking is a challenge if you want to dine in . There is private parking for capital one across the street but not sure if you will. E tower if you dine in . Will give the restaurant one more chance but definitely not the goat. read more

The service here is slow as molasses. So don't come too hungry and expect to wait. They always run out of black rice to expect that as well. How did I not know there was a Haitian place nearby? We stopped in about 8pm tonight, and while there were several people at the bar, there was no one else in the restaurant portion. Undeterred, my friends and I perused the menu and ordered the Accra fritters as a starter with some ginger tea. The wait staff was very friendly and helpful. While we waited for our appetizer, we ordered our main dishes: goat with mushroom rice, legumes with mushroom rice, ox tail with red beans and rice, and fried chicken with white rice. Be warned that the ginger tea is very, very spicy. I thought it was really fantastic, but you have to enjoy the flavor of ginger. Ok, so I don't know what type of flour is used in the fritters, but it was delicious! And there were a lot of them! I also like the pickled cabbage slaw that came with it. When we got our main dishes, it was all I could do to keep from diving in headfirst. The fried goat was perfectly cooked, and was tender on the inside with a crispy outside. I would totally get it again. I didn't really like the mushroom rice, it simply didn't seem to have a lot of flavor. I did enjoy the plantain cakes that came with it as well as that same pickled slaw. I stole a bite of the oxtail and fried chicken and both were very good. You really couldn't go wrong with any of the entrées. The only real disappointment was the desserts. We got the rum cake and sweet potato pudding. The rum cake was seriously dry and didn't have any rum flavor at all. I was pretty sad about that. And the sweet potato pudding was this dry slab that looked like a casserole and tasted kind of like carrot cake. Neither one was particularly good. I am so happy that there is a brick and mortar Haitian restaurant in the DMV now. I went there for the first time for a late takeout lunch for me and my family and the service was very quick. I had my meal in 15 minutes. I ordered goat and the oxtail dishes with the black mushroom rice. I am Haitian, so I am pretty picky about how my food should taste. The sauces had the right amount of spice for me, the goat and oxtail were very tender, the rice was very good (just be careful that you do not get a hot pepper in your bites), and the akra (fried pigeon pea appetizer) tasted awesome! I wished the fried plantains were thinner, saltier, and crispier, but they were fine as is (sometimes the bananas are just not right when you buy them, unfortunately). I would definitely come back. I hope that people go here - it was quite empty for lunch, and I know the competition is steep for ethnic food in the area. I had the pleasure of meeting the owners 2 weeks ago, a few hours before opening. The staff was hard at work putting the finishing touches on this newly minted restaurant in Wheaton, Md. Giselle's Creole Cuisine brings a new flavor to Wheaton, adding to it's diversity. There menu is Haitian-Creole. There menu is small now but I expect them to expand it once things settle down. The restaurant is named after the owners mom. I understand is heart of the kitchen creating the fantastic meals on the menu. So enough about the restaurant. Let's talk about the food. I have had only one dish, but let me tell you, I could not put my fork down. I joined the clean plate club that day. I had curry goat. It was excellent. The goat was tender and moist. The sides added a wonderful compliment to the main course. Especially the rice&beans and slaw/salad. Of course to eat a hardy meal like this, you have to have a worthy drink. I had the fruit punch. Let me tell you, this ain't your momma's fruit punch. It contains fruit punch, orange juice, and a toe tingling rum (I believe).
