I actually liked it here. It took a long while for the food to be ready but it was definitely worth the wait. The roti was delicious and was a great portion. My son got the goat he said it was cooked well and it was tender. I got the potatoes and channa sooooo freaking good. I also got bust up shot in chicken, channa, and potato. I'm telling you the food was so good. It also was very affordable. Also the chicken patties are discounted around closing. Bogo to be exact. The place is nice inside. I was told this is fully cooked and asked if I ever had bbq before. I know what a smoke ring looks like vs. dripping blood from a vein. I'm 44 and have been bbq'ing for over 20 years. I put the food in the fridge for 4 and half hours to return to you. Of course the blood is going to coagulate. I was told returns or refunds aren't ever given because that's your policy. But since I talked to her husband she would honor the exchange. While giving it back I was being reprimanded the whole time. Yet I nodded and said ok thank you the entire time. It's cool but never again. Thanks for the lessons on what never to do when handling a customer. Sir get your wife out the store front. This exchange could've been so much better. The food reminded me of home and the portions and relative price were great. The customer service is always friendly. There are a few reviews commenting about skin-on or bones; my impression is that they're likely less familiar with Caribbean food since that is commonplace to enhance the flavor. I was craving for Caribbean food in the area a couple of weeks ago. This place came up as one of the highly recommended places on Yelp. I am glad I tried this as I am hooked to this place now. I have gone back here three weekends in a row to try different things. On my first visit, I tried chicken roti wrap and oxtails with rice, cabbage and peas. They were both so delicious. The portions were great. Lasted for 4 meals. Definitely get the hot sauce on the side. Adds nice kick to it if you like it extra spicy. The next time I ordered buss up roti with oxtail stew and buss up roti with lamb stew. They both come with chicken peas and potato curry. Blend so well together. So delicious. Kinda addicting. It's a small place to dine in. They have about 5 tables. I recommend take out. Servers are great. My husband spotted an ad for this restaurant, and we decided to stop by only to find out they had just moved farther south on Georgia Avenue and recently held a grand opening. The new space is bright, clean, and welcoming, and the owner couldn't have been friendlier. We ordered takeout, so we didn't get to eat everything fresh, but overall the food was good. The chicken was a bit overcooked and the curry could've had more flavor, but the Dahl Puri was absolutely perfect. The salt fish was tasty, and the bake was impressively large. They also had sorrel and Irish moss, but we were too full to try them. The vibes were great, the food felt fresh, and the trip from Maryland to DC was worth it. I went to Teddy's Roti Shop today, August 30, 2026, and unfortunately, my experience was extremely disappointing not because of the food, but because of the customer service I received. I placed a fairly large order, including several doubles, chicken roti, beef roti, curry mango, three drinks, and a few other items. There was a slight miscommunication between the person taking my order and me regarding a side. She understood that I wanted the sides, but there was a misunderstanding about the rest of the order. That part was not a big deal to me at all. I explained to the young lady behind the counter that I no longer wanted the side, and she was polite and gladly took it back and refunded me for it. Again, no problem whatsoever. The issue began when the gentleman behind the counter offered to prepare the food for me anyway. I politely declined because I had a long drive ahead of me and did not want to wait any longer. He responded that it would only take two minutes. I again politely said, "No, thank you. I'm okay. I don't want to wait." At that point, his attitude completely changed. He became annoyed and told me that I had an attitude, when I was simply trying to explain that there had been a misunderstanding and that I was choosing not to wait for the food. I tried several times to keep my composure and explain that it wasn't a big deal and that I simply wanted to return the items I no longer wanted and leave. Instead of letting the situation go, he continued arguing with me. Eventually, the conversation escalated and we both exchanged words and profanity. I take responsibility for my part in allowing the situation to escalate, but I also believe that as a business, the customer service should have been handled much differently. What made the situation even more frustrating was that when I decided I wanted to return the remaining items I had purchased and receive a refund, I was told that I could not get a refund because the food had already been taken out/prepared. My issue was that I had already clearly said I did not want to wait for the food, and I felt like I was being pressured into purchasing something I had already declined. The young lady who initially handled my return was respectful and professional, and I have no complaint about her. My issue is specifically with the gentleman who was behind the counter and the way he handled the interaction. I have absolutely no problem spending my money at a business, but I expect to be treated with basic respect and courtesy. Customer service matters just as much as the food. For that reason, I am giving Teddy's Roti Shop one star. I will not be returning, and I hope management takes this review seriously and addresses the customer-service issues, because interactions like this can easily turn away customers permanently. read more

I really loved the mango curry here. I didn't really know what to expect and was surprised to realize the mangos' skin was still on and had a great texture in the dish. Turns out Trinidadian mango curry is made from half ripe mangoes and uses the skin. It had light sweetness, great flavor and great texture. I got it with Bussup shutt style roti ( Trinadian dialect for "busted-up shirt" which is how it looks), they said they use dairy-free butter flavored shortening in it. I also tried the Pholourie pea balls with Tamarind sauce. They were not crispy/ fried to order like I expected but fun to try especially with the Tamarind sauce. I wouldn't get them here again though. The doubles here were really good in terms of flavor (I got it with all the fillings: channa, cucumbers, culantro, tamarind) and loved the sweetness balanced with savory and the softness. Flavor wise they were really delicious but once again, just like with the Pholourie pea balls, I found it disappointing that although they fry things fresh every morning but don't fry them fresh to order so the outside isn't crispy. I didn't like the service here and found their hours unreliable but I still think it's a very worthwhile place to try with so many interesting dishes. My general rating system: 1 star: I would stay away 2 stars: Has some good things about it but I generally don't recommend. 3 stars: Pretty good. I wouldn't go out of my way to go back but a decent place 4 stars: Great place. I would go back. 5 stars: I highly recommend stopping whatever you are doing and making plans to try it out! The roti itself is thicker than what I'm used to, almost pita bread like to be exact. However, the flavor is accurate and pretty good. They get bonus points for offering a boneless chicken option although that's lowkey a micro sign of gentrification, but if you look outside...I digress. The service was relatively quick and the guy behind the counter was friendly. They had a good sorrel though overpriced per usual. The macaroni pie was not memorable. Strictly an oxtail review as I've had the buss up shut here (curry goat to be specific) and would've rated higher. The oxtail itself is really tender and delicious, but a Very small portion. The cut of meat is bony so it's to be expected but it's an especially meagre serving when the box is packed with rice and peas and a spoonful of cabbage. So I was disappointed by portioning. The 'callalloo' is spinach based with not much ochre so the consistency is off. It's just a different flavour than the authentic version. I usually don't leave reviews but I find it ridiculous that we spent $70.00 on take-out and what arrived was nothing but the scraps and bones of the a curry duck and a pile of rice and peas. The woman was very kind over the phone, but whoever is running that kitchen should be ashamed of themselves to charge so much money for nothing. I even paid extra for extra meat and when I weighed it, it was less than 8oz and mostly bones! Let's not get into the curry shrimp roti for $20.00 which literally had 4 pieces of size 21/25 shrimp (which if you know those are tiny shrimp). I travel far to get the Doubles from Teddy's Roti. I have been going to this spot for years...when they were up the street from the current location. The doubles, chicken soup, and peanut punch are my faves. Each time I have visit, I am made to feel welcome and greeted with a smile. The service is good. If you don't know what you want or are not familiar with the cuisine, they will help you. You can eat in. There are a few tables and chairs. But, I always do take out. First time trying roti and I ordered a chicken roti along with a double. To be honest, the food was just okay for me. I originally thought roti was more like a sandwich or wrap, but it came out huge and messy--so much gravy was leaking through the seams that it was tough to even hold. I'm used to Jamaican curry being very bold and seasoned, and this didn't really hit those same notes for me. That said, the double was definitely the better of the two items and had good flavor. As a first time customer I was a bit disappointed in the portions of the vegan and shrimp plate (rice plates) in relation to the price. There was a spoonful of cabbage and potato with a mound of rice. And the shrimp were the tiny size. I've experienced better portion to price ratios at other Caribbean restaurants. The. I went to Teddy's as recommended by my aunt for their doubles and buss up shut. Immediately when I went there, I was greeted by one of the staff and they took my order. I ordered the buss up shut with curry goat, doubles and peanut punch. The peanut punch had a perfect thickness and consistency that satisfied my taste buds, and the doubles were flavorful. I enjoyed the buss up shut too and the curry goat was tender. The restaurant is take out only as there is no where to sit, so expect to dash in and out.
