At heart, I'm a man that truly enjoy most Caribbean dishes ( oxtails, goat, curry/jerk chicken, roti, etc ) So, I set out on a quest to give a new Caribbean cuisine restaurant a shot at winning me over. That's when I bumped into Caribbean Dish... The name got me, yes it's basic, but the title was exactly what I was looking for. The restaurant is in a small unassuming parking lot... if you don't know it's there, you probably will miss it ( so glad I didn't !! ) The minute I walked in, I felt authentic family vibes ( something I look for when choosing my Caribbean locations ) The service was very friendly, and they cleared everything up when I wasn't sure if my particular craving could be fulfilled ( the combo I desired wasn't on their daily menu ) My sights were set on the oxtail and curry goat combo ( of course with rice & peas and veggies ! ) And when I say the goat was tender, and seasoned to perfection... while the oxtails had that juicy meatiness that will for sure keep me coming back. The rice & peas were cooked just right ( texture was on point ) and the veggies still had that freshness that brought everything else together. I love my Caribbean dishes saucy and not dry ( they get two thumbs up in that department ! ) Family vibes, cheerful greeting, and amazing food.... I have been wanting to avoid this, but I think it's time that I mention it finally. I tried through several outlets to address it offline and did not get a response. This is some of the best Trinidadian food in the area, and arguably the best breakfast and doubles. But unfortunately, and I see I'm not the only one, it is the owners that bring it down. My sister was visiting all the way from NYC (where she can easily get amazing Trini food) and I was so excited for her to try this place. It was my first time coming on an afternoon, and they happen to be out of a couple of the things that we were really excited about (i.e. doubles) and so my sister tried to make a veggie platter. He asked what she would like in it and he responded "that's not a veggie" and proceeded to say other snarky comments that got increasingly inflammatory. She called him out for being rude and he actually said to me "I feel bad for what you have to deal with, you two can't be close." The embarrassment I had was immeasurable and I felt so bad for being so excited for her to experience that. It doesn't matter how delicious food is anywhere, but if the ones in charge are disrespectful, there's a moral issue. They also forgot my side of pumpkin that we paid for. Take this information as you will, but if you do go, my recommendation is to avoid talking with them as much as possible and try online ordering/pickup or delivery. Where have you been all my life? When your Trini cousin recommends Trini food then you know it has to be good, right? Located in Landover Hills shopping center. This is a take out spot, quaint and CLEAN. Credit card orders incur an additional fee. Anyhoo, I had never heard of this place and funny enough have driven by it so many times. I attempted to call beforehand, but orders are not taken on the phone. I believe there is online ordering available via their site and other food delivery services. I got the curry chicken buss up shut with a side of spinach. Huge portion! Curry is delightful, aloo is perfect, spinach, dope. Buss up shut, better than my Aunties, but don't tell her that...eek! The food is excellent, which is why I've been a frequent customer over the past several months. Unfortunately, the customer service is among the worst I have ever experienced. For a long time, I gave the restaurant the benefit of the doubt and assumed the issues were limited to the front-of-house staff. However, during my most recent visit, the owner took my order and provided an even worse customer experience than the staff. I regularly drive from Virginia to support this business, but after today's experience, I won't be returning. The problem isn't an isolated incident or a bad day. The poor service is consistent and happens every single time I visit. Great food can bring customers in the door, but respectful and professional service is what keeps them coming back. Hands down THE BEST DOUBLES you will find here in the DMV. I drive all the way to New York because it's the only place I can find Trini doubles that mirrors actual back home taste. My best friend asked me to try Caribbean dish about two weeks ago and I've been back four times. I kid you not, they are my favorite now! I also tried the chicken roti, phoulorie and currants roll. All were delicious. There's no seating space however the interior is big enough for multiple people to stand in line and order. The staff is always friendly and the food is prepared rather quickly you are in and out in moments. I cannot believe it took me so long to find this place. It saved me a 4 hour drive! read more

I've ordered from here on uber eats multiple times! This is a Trinidadian restaurant. The food is amazing! They do run out of items here and there. This place also closes early. I want to say they go from 11-6 on ubereats. I love the bake and saltfish! It's expensive but so good and fresh! I would always suggest eating bake and saltfish right away. Do not leave it for the next day unless you know how to reheat it. The doubles have a hint of spice but fresh and nice! Love the plantain and I always order the curry shrimp with dhalpuri unwrapped. It has shrimp, chickpeas and potatoes with fresh herbs and spices. It is sooooo good! I would only say they need more shrimp. My boys and dad like the curry chicken with dhalpuri wrapped. It's just a little too spicy for my dad. One thing I didn't care for is the buss up shot roti. Also, I wish they had more offerings on ubereats. I would like to order pholourie with sour and aloo pies separate. Not in that hot box option that is about $160. All is all the food is great! The Prices are not too bad either. I ordered a jerk chicken and oxtail combo yesterday and when I got home it, I tasted the jerk chicken. It tasted a bit different. Come to find out. It was Turkey. The crazy thing is that they do not have Turkey on the menu and I know the difference between Turkey and chicken. So why is there Turkey in my food? Every single piece of poultry meat in there was Turkey, besides the oxtail. And again, I know exactly the taste and texture of turkey and how it differs from chicken, plus it contained those tendons that differ from chicken also. Idk if this was a gross negligence or someone did this to be misleading, but as an establishment that only serves a particular kind of cusine, this is kinda unacceptable, especially with something that isnt on the menu! As a proud Trinidadian, I always try to support Caribbean-owned spots--but my experience at Caribbean Dish was one of the worst I've ever had at any restaurant, period. I went there recently and the owner's attitude was absolutely disgusting. His personality? Stink. His jokes? Uncalled for and borderline offensive. And I'm not someone who gets easily offended. I get that Trinis can come off blunt sometimes--it's part of the culture--but there's a difference between being real and just being plain disrespectful. This wasn't even my first red flag. A while back, I called asking if he had roti and instead of just answering the question, he went in circles about how I can't get roti through the phone, that I needed to come into the store, and if there's no roti, "I don't know what to tell you." Upon arrival, he tried to get smart and said something like, "You don't look like the type to get married anytime soon." What?? Was it my clothes? My hair color? Whatever it was, that comment was unprofessional and straight-up weird. Fast forward to this visit: my mom politely asked for some pepper sauce on the side. We ordered FIVE items. I asked for some pepper sauce on the side. What we got was a joke--one tiny container barely the size of a ketchup packet. I asked for another one, explaining it's just not enough for the amount of food we bought. His response? "I don't know what to tell you, figure it out." At first, I thought he was joking--he'd been throwing sarcastic jabs at me since I walked in--but then he follows up with, "Sorry, you need to pay for another one," and the way he said it? DISGUSTING. His tone was condescending, rude, and disrespectful--especially towards women. And who TF charges for pepper sauce anyway?? You didn't charge me for the first one, fine. But if there's a policy, just say that! Don't act like you're doing me a favor. Especially when you literally said you could put pepper sauce on all five dishes--so what's the difference between doing that and putting it in a small container?? Am I only paying for the container or what? Be real. This place needs serious customer service training. I came for food, not to be insulted. Do better. read more

This place has potential but it's currently not showing. They have doubles on a picture with the condiments but when you go there they only have tamarind sauce mixed with pepper. No shadow Beni sauce, cucumber or coconut chutney. The condiments make a big difference. The Channa for the doubles is thick and cold looking. The Baras are different sizes. Some small and some bigger. Too inconsistent! The customer service is not warm and friendly. It's like they're making you feel like you're making them work. A lack of enthusiasm. They also forgot one of my order. Luckily I was still in the area and they corrected it. The person putting the doubles together seems like they have no idea about how doubles is put together. My son turned 3 a couple of weeks ago, and I had a big family get-together in the area. My family is all Trini, so I knew I wanted to go with Trini food. I live in California, but needed to find someone local to cater. I called around to a few places, but none of those worked out. I was so happy when I found Caribbean Dish, and Rosemary responded to my inquiry very quickly. She helped me choose an appropriate amount of food for the 30+ people I was expecting. The price was reasonable for the amount of food that came with the order, and the food itself was soo good! I wanted to take pictures to add to this review, but it was so tasty that I always forgot about the picture until after I had already started eating! We got pans of curry goat, curry shrimp, curry chicken, curry potato and channa, stew chicken, pholourie, white rice, roti, plantain, cabbage, and a few doubles too! The order was ready on time for pick-up, and we also got help with loading everything in the car. I can't recommend this place enough, and I will definitely be ordering again whenever I am back in the area! Thank you for the really good food and amazing service!
