Stopped by Just Jerk in Lanham, MD for lunch and wow. This place stays busy, and for good reason. The spot is super small and pretty dilapidated, but honestly, when I see a place like this, I already expect the food to be FIRE, and it didn't disappoint. This was my second visit. The first time, the service felt a little cold, but this time was a huge improvement. The women at the front desk were working non-stop; taking in-person orders, answering phones, packing food, handing off Uber Eats orders, basically running the entire operation. They were clearly working hard and keeping everything moving as efficiently as possible despite how packed it was. I ordered the large brown stew meal with cabbage only, plus an extra order of jerk chicken (dark meat, mild). The food was exactly what I hoped for: comforting, flavorful, and clearly made with care. "Mixed Feelings ?" The curry chicken dish was actually delicious ( hence the 4-stars ) seasoned and the chicken was tender. I felt a little rushed when I was ordering... And certain things revolving around the menu and availability of different dishes ( like Ox tails) wasn't made clear to me. And for the life of me I don't know why the food was so oily ? I made a takeout order and took advantage of the 20% off "local" coupon and got the coco bread $2.25, curry platter (small) $11.50, white meat jerk chicken sandwich (small) $10.75, and the daily lunch special (comes w/ beef patty & drink) $14. - The service I experienced was quite good. Although I received my food 7 min late, the staff member assisting me was kind and personable. - All the food was solid to good, with my favorite being the white jerk chicken sandwich. - The portions received from the platters and sandwiches definitely surpassed my expectations, as you certainly get good value for your dollar. - My only real knock would be the cabbage being underwhelming as it was lacking flavor, and it was undercooked, but that was the only negative. - Also, the beef patty was just alright as it was too doughy and not as much meat filling, but it was saved by pairing it with the coco bread. I'm very disappointed. I've had Just Jerk before. Good food. The customer service can be lacking at times but I let it slide. Not today. I ordered food through Uber Eats. I received a message that my order was canceled because Just Jerk said I called to canceled. I NEVER called to cancel. I'm fracking hungry and was looking forward to my food. What kind of best practice is this? To LIE on a customer that they called to cancel. Why would I CALL to cancel if I ordered through Uber Eats? Wouldn't I just cancel through Uber Eats??? I went back for that jerk turkey burger! SO BOMBB! They make them fresh to order so it takes about 30 mins. It was so good but next time I will be requesting coco bread because the bun it was served one was too little for the burger and it got messy very quickly. read more

Excellent jerk chicken and curry chicken with generous portions. Also some fantastic meat patties. If you want white meat chicken or fish, they prepare that upon request, so they recommend ordering before you go (I wasn't in a hurry so waited 30 minutes). Small but very popular location. From the time I arrived until the time I left, there was a steady flow of people in the store. It only took about 10 minutes to order and I waited no more than 20 minutes for the 1/2 dark meat jerk chicken with peas and rice and cabbage. I asked for the plantain on the side. What I loved: - food was made to order - the chicken was seasoned down to the bone - the presentation was professional - it was enough food for 2 meals Their version of jerk flavor wasn't my favorite but it wasn't badl. The food here has always been excellent. However, the service has improved substantially. I remember it taking a long time to get my food now when I come it's much faster. Hence this place has risen to being the top of my food choices in the area. The ladies that run, the front desk are really nice; disclaimer you will need to calibrate for Jamaican women, e.g. sometimes you think they're being mean but they are really super sweet. That's just their persona. What also impresses me is that they're one of the few restaurants that have not jacked up their prices astronomically over the past few years and still have excellent food. We probably makes the food so good is that they still use a charcoal grill you could taste it in the food and smell the smoke as you pull up. Tips 1) if you have the time the lunch special it's worth driving for; they have a dark meat special that includes a beef patty and drink for super low price. 2) the lunch special size small is enough to feed a fairly active 220+ pound man two times. 3) if you get extra sauce, it will be a little spicy. I like it that way because I do spicy. Just giving you a hint if you don't do spicy. 4) they also have many of the traditional Jamaican drinks; ginger, beer, Sorel, root, soda, champagne... 5) they have red snapper some days so call in advance if you're looking for that and it's going to be the most reasonably priced snapper in the area. read more

Really disappointing experience. I placed a pickup order and not only were items missing, but the restaurant's phone number was disconnected when I tried to call about it. My pickup time changed from 3:23 to 3:54, and when I arrived, I asked to cancel since I couldn't wait any longer. They said they'd get it "right away," but I still waited another 5 minutes--only to be handed an incomplete order. To make matters worse, the food was disappointing to boot. I never received the festival or the beef stew I ordered, and what I did get just wasn't good. The service was disorganized, the food underwhelming, and the whole experience left a bad impression. Poor service and had customers waiting 30+ minutes without getting their food. Some customers had already paid so were forced to wait to get their food. Staff never informed customers about the long wait times. People were still calling in and putting in orders and staff was accepting orders without informing them of delays and possible issues resulting in significantly long wait times. To paint the picture, my order was put in 15 minutes ahead of my arrival in addition to 15 minutes waiting. For best experience, call in your order in advance. There's not much space to wait for your food and it's sweltering in there in the summer. I ordered the lunch special plus an additional beef patty and was able to get a small half jerk/half curry chicken platter (comes with rice and peas, cabbage, and plantain), 2 beef patties and a drink for less than $20. In this economy, you already know that's an excellent deal. There's enough food here for me to eat 3 times. I wasn't a fan of the jerk seasoning (it was very forward with the cinnamon, so it was surprisingly sweet) and the cabbage was firmer than I prefer, but I enjoyed the curry chicken and patties and would gladly return for those or try something different next time. read more

Five years since my last visit, Just Jerk has still got it - in fact, it is even better than I remember. The jerk chicken was smoked to perfection, crispy on the outside while being fall off the bone tender on the inside. The chicken was also seasoned to perfection. I live less than 10 minutes away from Just Jerk and I don't go anywhere close to enough haha. In terms of Jamaican spots in PG, it's up there for sure! It's located right Lanham Severn Road becomes Annapolis Road... and if you miss it, it will not be easy to get back there. So make sure you know where you're going! They share a parking lot with an auto place, and it can get crowded really quickly.... and it's those slanted parking spaces lol. The place itself is pretty small, and strictly takeout. There's a cool mural on the wall, and there's a visible menu for you to see. They've got the usuals, and I highly recommend their jerk chicken... they know how to make it right. Perfect balance of sweet and spicy is present! When I went recently, I was delighted that they had a lentil chickpea patty and callaloo patty! Their patty options are great and their prices aren't so bad! The DMV, especially PG County, has quite a few Jamaican options... and this is one of the first ones I'd point you to. read more

Some of the worst food I've had in a while. The jerk chicken I've had before and known it to be good. This time it was pretty bad. It was dry, skin overcooked and not palatable, however out of everything I ordered it was seasoned the best. Cabbage is crunchy and lacked flavor - not great at all. The plantains were all mushed, under ripened, and extremely greasy. I made the horrible mistake of ordering a side of it, which is now in the trash. The curry chicken by far is some of the worst. Idk if it's cinnamon or what but it's not what I expect Jamaican curry to taste like. I will not be getting food from here ever again. I didn't pick up so i can't speak to the service. read more

Carryout place with a line, so order ahead if you can. Everything is fresh and filling. My teenage girls who have suddenly become picky eaters are scarfing it down. A quiet, colorful Jerk shack in Lanham, MD served me some of the best jerk chicken I've had since relocating to the DMV. I stopped in during the lunch rush at noon and ordered the jerk chicken with rice and peas and cabbage. The wait time wasn't bad as the food took roughly 15-20 minutes to be prepared for takeout. The prices are very fair compared to other Caribbean restaurants in the area, as well. The Jerk Chicken was TOP NOTCH- very flavorful and tender. They definitely have science behind the way they cook their chicken. I wasn't the biggest fan of the sides though. I believe the cabbage could have been cooked longer and seasoned a little more. The rice and peas were just OK to me- I've had better and worse. Sadly, they had no plantains available when I went either.
