I wasn't even planning on visiting Ruby's Southern Kitchen... my daughter was getting her hair done nearby & I promised her a lil daddy/daughter moment & asked if she wanted to give them a try. I had heard of Ruby's before, but I'm never in the area, and this seemed to be as good a time as any. Maaaannn. I'm glad I did. Ruby's is like a dining hall style establishment with a pre-prepared assortment of dishes in chafing dishes that you can choose from. They had a bunch of soul food classics, but I was interested in the breakfast. I got substituted catfish in their shrimp & grits dish and got some scrambled eggs, and it was a hit. I wouldn't change a thing, it was a 10/10. My lil lady got chicken & waffles and loved hers as well. I tasted a piece of her chicken and it was seasoned really well too. We dined in and to be honest, our order took long, but it was so good, it didn't even matter. Ruby's made a believer out of me, and I promise we'll be back.

Honestly, I was floored by this place. The customer service is great and friendly. The restaurant is clean and nicely put together. It doesn't have any weird smells and plenty of seating inside and out. The food - chef kiss !! I got the wing meal with Mac and cheese + trinity !! The only two sides that are a must !! The wings were huge and still crunchy when I took my meal to-go !! I would definitely recommend and come back whenever I'm in town !!

5 wing dinner. Fried wings, yams, cabbage and skillet cornbread.

Pulled up about an hour before closing on Sunday. Service was on point, the cashier had great energy, solid recommendations, and a welcoming vibe. Ambiance is solid, you order at the counter, take it to go or grab a seat--plenty of space to sit down and eat. Food prices lean high. My girl got the short ribs, $40. My plate was around $21. For the portion, I could've gotten more at a spot like Ella Ray's for a few dollars less. Wings were seasoned, fresh and hot, no complaints there. Cabbage? Out of this world, best item hands down. Yams were okay, I prefer them a little softer and sweeter, but not bad. Skillet cornbread was disappointing, no real flavor profile--not sweet, not hearty, just hot and basic. Bottom line, I will be back to try more.

I cannot say enough good things about this restaurant, it's phenomenal! The most wonderful staff, DELICIOUS food and lovely ambiance make this place a 12/10. Food tastes like it was made with love. The black eyed peas were my favorite! The staff are so sweet and welcoming. Will be back!

Stopped in this spot for a quick meal after I got my hair done. I really appreciate that the sides were made ahead of time, but most of the main dishes were made to order. The wait was not long, but my food was served to me hot and ready. I think they needed just a touch of salt and a little bit more creole seasoning but once I added some salt and pepper and the little seasoning when I got home, the dish was perfect. You can order in or take your food to go inside is very comfortable. They also have outside seating for beautiful fall days

Hey friends! I was super excited to visit Ruby's new location as I was a hugeeee fan of their first location. Unfortunately, this visit was subpar and disappointing. I ordered the Fried Shrimp platter($18). The entree comes with a choice of two sides and either a honey butter biscuit or cornbread. I chose Mac and mashed potatoes as my sides. The fried shrimp was seasoned well but overcooked. The Mac and cheese was good, the cheese blend was enjoyable. The mashed potatoes, as you can tell from the photo, were not delightful. Some added butter and seasoning would make them more delightful. The honey butter biscuit was satisfying! Perfectly soft and buttery. Customer service was poor. I was not greeted when I picked up my to-go order. The cashier just handed me my bag without a "have a good day" or anything of the such. Yikes. The interior is large and inviting. I loved the cultured art on the walls. Plenty of tables for dine-in. The restrooms were awful, there was a large amount of toilet paper on the floors. Parking is ample and free. It's sad to see some of my favorites restaurants decline post-Covid. Next time I'll order from the food bar instead of an online order. Hope you enjoy! With love, The Picky Pescatarian

Northern Virginia doesn't offer many true comfort food spots, so when I saw the signs for Ruby's Southern Comfortable Food, I had to pull over and give it a try! The interior is clean, bright, and beautifully designed--featuring vibrant murals, eye-catching artwork, and lush greenery that makes the space feel inviting and warm. I was warmly greeted by the staff who took my order: Ralph's deep-fried chicken wings with two sides: Robert's mac & cheese, Holy Trinity greens, and a side of cornbread. The wings were seasoned to perfection--crispy, flavorful, and juicy. The mac & cheese was the standout for me: baked golden brown, creamy, and bubbling hot. I loved it so much I ordered another to take home! While I typically prefer my greens made with turkey (no pork for me) and a more savory profile, they were still a nice complement to the plate. I'm already planning my next visit--next time I'll be trying another main with either green beans or cabbage... and I might just leave room for dessert!

I went to Rubys after church today because I was craving chicken & waffles. The first time I had Ruby's years ago at the old location the Chix and Waffles was divine! It was so so good. I was expecting that same experience this time at the new location. The Chix and Waffles was very underwhelming. The food was hot but lacked flavor. The waffle was kind of hard and The chicken was almost dry. I never had a dry chicken thigh before. I was so disappointed. I am not sure what has changed in the kitchen but please bring the old recipe back. What happened to the sweet potato waffle, sigh?! Besides my food, the staff was very accommodating and polite. The restaurant was packed so I grabbed a seat at the high top by the window. Food took about 15-20 mins to prepare.

Food was so flavorful! I will definitely return to try other items. I dined in during weekend brunch. The biscuit was so soft that it melted in my mouth. That honey butter of the biscuit is delicious. The fried catfish was perfectly seasoned. The mac n cheese was very cheesy, just how I like it. The yams were very good with a well balanced amount of sweetness. The sweet potato pound cake was really good, icing is sweet. The cornbread was regular, not served warm like the biscuit. This black owned business has some delicious food. Portions were large! The inside is spacious. They have booths and tables. I didn't really experience service except when I went to the counter to place my order. Restaurant looks very clean. Large parking lot

I went to Ruby's for lunch on Saturday with my brother and daughter. We live in North Carolina and my daughter in Maryland. The food was exceptional. I had chicken wings, collards, yams and cornbread. Everything was seasoned well and delicious. I was thoroughly satisfied. The food was so good we ate there again on Sunday. I ordered the same lunch in addition to potato salad. Most restaurants have commercial tasting potato salad but Ruby's tastes homemade. I was thoroughly satisfied with my favorite meal. Ruby's also has Texas Pete and some of the best moist cornbread. You will not be disappointed. I highly recommend Ruby's Southern Comfort Kitchen. The service was fast and friendly. There was plenty of seating and a quiet and pleasant atmosphere.

A really nice place to come and get some express breakfast. You can take it to go or grab a seat and enjoy. The restaurant is spacious and they have booths and table seating. The artwork is absolutely beautiful and the music is a vibe. Now to the food...... the bacon was nice a crispy, the eggs were fluffy and seasoned and the chicken was delicious. They have fountain drinks and good iced teas and lemonades. Conveniently located minutes from Bowie Town Center. Stop by and enjoy!

Let's try these chicken wings with corn bread on the side.

I selected Ruby's for an early dinner/late lunch and tried something new. The food was served hot and not lukewarm. The servers were friendly and knowledgable about the menu items including dessert. Let's talk about the ambiance, very comforting to support the soul food theme. The music and lighting were just right. Looking forward to returning soon. Keep up the good work.

It's in the same Plaza as the Amish market, so there's plenty of parking. I stepped inside and there were a couple of chairs for waiting along the window. Otherwise, it's a small open space and there are desserts on display, I'm in you to read, and very polite staff behind the counter. I decided to get the blackened salmon and shrimp entree with collard greens and mac and cheese. I got their salts at caramel banana pudding for dessert. I decided to use my insulated bag and wait until I got to my friend's house to eat. I love the shrimp and the salmon. They were seasoned well, but not to a point of tasting too salty, which can happen at a lot of soul food restaurants for me. Unfortunately, despite the good flavor, this was the case with the collard greens, whew. Also, there is turkey in there, so don't get it as a vegetarian option! The mac and cheese was good... Not sure where I would put it in my rankings, but I enjoyed it. That banana pudding.... Whoa. It was the perfect dessert, and I would happily get it again. The salted caramel and banana balance surprisingly well. Their top rankings are well deserved, and I am looking forward to trying their wings and other items next time!

It's in a shopping center, so nothing stressful there, and the restaurant itself is easy to spot. Walking in, the first thing I noticed was how clean, polished, and classy everything looked. Even though it was busy, it didn't feel chaotic. The staff immediately greeted me and asked if it was my first time which I appreciated. They didn't just rush me through the line; they actually took time to explain the menu, how the bowls are built, and offered samples. That alone made the experience feel welcoming and intentional. Now let's get into the FOOD. Everything looked fresh. They have about four rice options (which is already a win), and I went with the pineapple coconut rice. For my protein, I chose grilled chicken, but they also offer shrimp, salmon, and even a mushroom option for vegetarians and honestly, the mushrooms looked so good I almost switched. For my added sides, I kept it simple because I really wanted to taste everything. Collard greens and sweet potatoes. But they also had plantains, and okra....real deal soul food options. Then you get into the fresh toppings. Slaws, carrots, pickled veggies. I kept it light. I finished my bowl with collard green pesto (which intrigued me, and I'm glad I tried it) and added an étouffée sauce over my rice... and listen!!!!! That combo? Chef's kiss. I grabbed a tropical punch juice, and just like everything else, it tasted fresh and well-made. Let me say this clearly: the food is a 10/10. If you're someone who will give Chipotle chance after chance, then you absolutely owe it to yourself to try Spice Black. 10/10. Worth your money. Worth the hype. Worth the experience.

I must say everyone we encountered were very friendly (a tad slow at times but made up for it with friendliness). Their signature sweet tea is to die for - the mint infused delight was so great it was worth a second glass! The milk and honey latte was a hot cinnamon joy as well. I ate the smothered chicken and biscuits. It has a slightly spicy Cajun sauce, I got to pick the style of eggs and I opted for scrambled. Good choice! The biscuits (2) were soft and the chicken and eggs paired with them well. The chicken was a bit tougher to cut so they should offer people a steak knife or something sharper than a butter knife to cut it. But that is a mild complaint because the dish was delish. I also tried the berry French toast. It was super thick and, while it was a bit light on berries, the flavor was good and so was the syrup.
