I usually get the banana pudding but they were out. So for my first time trying, its very good. I ordered the catfish dinner with trinity greens and scalloped potatoes and potato salad. The batter is very seasoned and tasty. I love it. Listen my whole meal was delicious and tasty! My favorite is the honey butter biscuit, I got an extra. Idk where I been and why I haven't been here sooner! They got Carolina kitchen beat and that was my go to for good, quick southern cuisine. I loved their easy order system online if you didn't want to wait inside the establishment for your order you can choose that option. They even have a separate "pick up" section that you go to simply pick up your online order. The customer service was 1 of 1! Mac and cheese, Amazing!!!! Fried cabbage delicious!!! I decided to stop by Ruby's after getting my hair braided since it was midday and they just opened. There were some hits but the misses were too big. Let me start with the hits: - Ambiance: it is a decent size fast casual style restaurant where you can either sit in eat or takeout. It's like the old school dining style soul food spots down south. - Staff: Everyone was pleasant and helpful. No complaints and good vibes. - Sweet Tea: This is a staple in southern cuisine and they didn't disappoint. It was good though I will mention they sell it by the bottle for $4 (not fountain drink style.) - Catfish: This was the star of my plate and it was delicious! It was made ready to order so no soggy fried food that's been sitting all day. The fish was meaty, fresh and fried good. Love it! Now the misses... the rest of my meal. Every side I had with my meal was disappointing. - Mac and cheese was underseasoned and not really creamy. - Sweet potatoes were mushy and not sweet. I ended up throwing them away all together. - Cornbread was more like cake than cornmeal, which isn't my personal preference. It was a nice size loaf and sweeter than the sweet potatoes. It's hard to justify giving a place more than 3 stars when the majority of my plate wasn't delicious. And for $30 dollars I was not expecting that at all. Thank you for accepting my review. Today, Sunday, I went to your Bowie location @ about 2pm to get dinner. I asked the chef for turkey wings with no gravy. He said he would take care of me and went to the back. The chef was extremely polite and helpful. I ordered turkey wings augratin potatoes and cabbage. I got home and my order was full of gravy, potatoes and cabbage was cold. Remember this is Sunday @ 2 so everything should be hot or at least warm. I am home and don't want to go back out. Even my cornbread was cold. I live very close to this establishment and I supported and recommended your restaurant since you opened. Quality of food has decreased and so has service. There was a young lady ringing up customers and when it was my turned she went to the other end and interacted with her fellow employees, no problem because I was sure she would return. I had to wave for someone to help me. I am very unhappy and no hot meal for a Sunday afternoon. Why open if you are not going to take care of the customers. I wasn't even planning on visiting Ruby's Southern Kitchen... my daughter was getting her hair done nearby & I promised her a lil daddy/daughter moment & asked if she wanted to give them a try. I had heard of Ruby's before, but I'm never in the area, and this seemed to be as good a time as any. Maaaannn. I'm glad I did. Ruby's is like a dining hall style establishment with a pre-prepared assortment of dishes in chafing dishes that you can choose from. They had a bunch of soul food classics, but I was interested in the breakfast. I got substituted catfish in their shrimp & grits dish and got some scrambled eggs, and it was a hit. I wouldn't change a thing, it was a 10/10. My lil lady got chicken & waffles and loved hers as well. I tasted a piece of her chicken and it was seasoned really well too. Honestly, I was floored by this place. The customer service is great and friendly. The restaurant is clean and nicely put together. Pulled up about an hour before closing on Sunday. Service was on point, the cashier had great energy, solid recommendations, and a welcoming vibe. Ambiance is solid, you order at the counter, take it to go or grab a seat--plenty of space to sit down and eat. Food prices lean high. My girl got the short ribs, $40. My plate was around $21. For the portion, I could've gotten more at a spot like Ella Ray's for a few dollars less. Wings were seasoned, fresh and hot, no complaints there. Cabbage? Out of this world, best item hands down. Stopped in this spot for a quick meal after I got my hair done. I really appreciate that the sides were made ahead of time, but most of the main dishes were made to order. The wait was not long, but my food was served to me hot and ready. I think they needed just a touch of salt and a little bit more creole seasoning but once I added some salt and pepper and the little seasoning when I got home, the dish was perfect. Hey friends! I was super excited to visit Ruby's new location as I was a hugeeee fan of their first location. Unfortunately, this visit was subpar and disappointing. I ordered the Fried Shrimp platter($18). The entree comes with a choice of two sides and either a honey butter biscuit or cornbread. I chose Mac and mashed potatoes as my sides. The fried shrimp was seasoned well but overcooked. The Mac and cheese was good, the cheese blend was enjoyable. The mashed potatoes, as you can tell from the photo, were not delightful. Some added butter and seasoning would make them more delightful. The honey butter biscuit was satisfying! Perfectly soft and buttery. Customer service was poor. I was not greeted when I picked up my to-go order. The cashier just handed me my bag without a "have a good day" or anything of the such. Yikes. The interior is large and inviting. I loved the cultured art on the walls. Plenty of tables for dine-in. The restrooms were awful, there was a large amount of toilet paper on the floors. Parking is ample and free. The interior is clean, bright, and beautifully designed--featuring vibrant murals, eye-catching artwork, and lush greenery that makes the space feel inviting and warm. I was warmly greeted by the staff who took my order: Ralph's deep-fried chicken wings with two sides: Robert's mac & cheese, Holy Trinity greens, and a side of cornbread. The wings were seasoned to perfection--crispy, flavorful, and juicy. The mac & cheese was the standout for me: baked golden brown, creamy, and bubbling hot. I loved it so much I ordered another to take home! While I typically prefer my greens made with turkey (no pork for me) and a more savory profile, they were still a nice complement to the plate. I went to Rubys after church today because I was craving chicken & waffles. The first time I had Ruby's years ago at the old location the Chix and Waffles was divine! It was so so good. I was expecting that same experience this time at the new location. The Chix and Waffles was very underwhelming. The food was hot but lacked flavor. The waffle was kind of hard and The chicken was almost dry. I never had a dry chicken thigh before. I was so disappointed. I am not sure what has changed in the kitchen but please bring the old recipe back. What happened to the sweet potato waffle, sigh?! Besides my food, the staff was very accommodating and polite. I had chicken wings, collards, yams and cornbread. Everything was seasoned well and delicious. I was thoroughly satisfied. The food was so good we ate there again on Sunday. I ordered the same lunch in addition to potato salad. Most restaurants have commercial tasting potato salad but Ruby's tastes homemade. I was thoroughly satisfied with my favorite meal. Today my coworkers and I decide to order lunch from Rubys. Looking online at the price it said one thing but when they gave us the total it was different. Ruby's is a treat. Walking in there feels like a Sunday afternoon every time lol. My first visit at the end of August, my family and I got a bunch of stuff to go. I got the blackened catfish, greens, and mashed potatoes. My aunt got the half roasted chicken, mashed potatoes and cabbage. The catfish was really good, as were the sides! I'm gonna make sure to get extra of the Cajun cream sauce next time I order it. I visited again over the weekend. I ordered the turkey wings (highly recommended by two of the employees lol), mashed potatoes, and black eyed peas. Before ordering, one of the employees nodded to watch I believed to be the turkey wings. They looked smothered in gravy, succulent, and fall off the bone. I was excited. But sadly I did not receive that. My turkey wings were so tough. I couldn't get through the skin and had to force the meat out. Ima have to chat with those employees the next time I see them lol. Oh my goodness!! The first thing is the greeting as you enter, then a look at some of the food which you can order for a quick carry out. Then between the screen display and handy menu, you have some tough decisions to make! We've been twice now so we've had their perfectly fried whiting, the delectable baked chicken, scrumptious hopping John, smooth and tasty collard, and for me, "bring tears to my eyes" creamy-cheesy macaroni & cheese. We also loved their flaky hot biscuits and homemade strawberry lemonade. We were so glad to meet the owner to tell him face -to-face how we enjoyed the food, the beautiful seating area, the selections and the service. Has just the right consistency with gently firm elbow noodles, rich creamy cheese sauce with real cheddar cheese. But the candied yams are the star: perfectly cooked so the yams are slightly firm with a delicious sweet thick herb and spice sauce. The whole meal was excellent. I ordered the Bayou pasta, 2 fried ribs with greens and mash potatoes and gravy. I also order cornbread and the honey biscuit. When I tell you don't judge a book by its cover. The pasta was so delicious, the pork chops were tender and flavorful but I think I would have enjoyed them more dining in because by the time I got home the fried breading was soft. The biscuits was so soft and good, I didn't really like the cornbread. The greens were good but tasted a little salty. The mash was good but the gravy didn't really have a taste. I went here on a Saturday afternoon with the mister. The service was great. We were greeted upon arrival, and it was explained that it was pay-to-order and self-selected seating. The ambiance was nice, with music playing at a comfortable volume. We ordered the Bayou Shrimp pasta, chicken and waffles, banana pudding, strawberry lemonade, and half-and-half tea. They were out of the signature soul rolls I've heard about. It took a while for our food to come out, but it was piping hot and fresh. The chicken has a nice crisp and flavor. The pasta was good but needed more shrimp and less butter. The strawberry lemonade was good! It was like strawberry Kool-aid, and lemonade had a sophisticated baby. We enjoyed our meal from the comfort of a booth. Although there was a party happening in their catering space and lots of foot traffic, we never felt overwhelmed. This was my first visit to Ruby's since they moved to their new location. It's much larger than their previous space, the inside is nice, and there's even a few tables for outdoor seating. When I walked in, there were quite a few folks sitting at tables waiting for their orders, so I wasn't sure how long it would take. I was hoping it wouldn't take too long because I was starving. After ordering some salmon with macaroni and cheese and greens, I took a seat. I asked to have my corn bread while I waited because I was so hungry. Thankfully, it only took about 15 minutes. I enjoyed my meal. The cornbread was moist and had a slight cake consistency but it wasn't overly sweet like some "cake cornbread" I've had. The salmon was a decent size, and it was covered in a creole sauce. The sauce wasn't too heavy, but just enough to give the salmon some additional flavor. This new location has ample room and ample parking! Kindly greeted by a staff member upon entering as I was a little confused as to where to order. He answered a few of my questions about the menu and guided me to the register to order. I noticed that the atmosphere was inviting and the walls were well decorated in Black Art. It was a little nippy that day but they do have outdoor seating for warmer days. They also have a small conference room and a separate window for call in, door-dash, grub hub, Uber eats etc. orders which was brilliant so that those orders will not create a back log at the main register. I ordered the three piece chicken meal that was oh so flavorful. The Mac and cheese and potato salad. The greens looked good but have pork in it and I gave that up years ago : ). The entire meal was delicious and filling...I had left overs for 2 days. Man this food was sooo great!! It tastes beautiful and was cooked to perfection... the portions were large enough to share and affordable. I wish I could have tried more items on the menu, but my choices did satisfy me. We also tried the peach cobbler and the Banana Foster Bread pudding, but after the great meal it was overwhelming. Im sure a little later it will grow on us and will pair well with some Vanilla Icecream in this Summer Heat. Finally tried the place out once they settled in their new location. Where it is brings so much nostalgia to me! My parents and I used to go to PetsMart, the furniture store and more over there, but now it's changed so much! Ruby's is over in that plaza now, and it's a nice space! There is plenty of counter space to decide what to order, and there are several tables to either dine at or wait for your food, both inside and outside! I decided to get the blackened catfish with sauteed green beans, sweet potatoes and corn bread. There were plenty of open tables, but I decided to eat elsewhere. Once I got settled and dug into my food... everything was tasty! The catfish wasn't too salty -- I've encountered the situation where 'blackened' just means applying TOO much salt. I knew as soon as I saw the "welcome cousins" sign that I was in my type of establishment. The fact that the restaurant was full of aunties and grannies also let me know the food was going to be delicious. ( my aunties and Granny would be quick to let you if something isn't right) When you enter the restaurant some of the food selections are visible through a cafeteria style glass buffet. You proceed to the cashier to place your order then wait for your name to be called or a text confirming your food is ready for pickup. The wait for food was less than 10 minutes. There are multiple desert options near the register: pumpkin pie, banana pudding, various cakes. I had the fried whiting with green beans and Rick with gravy. Everything was phenomenal. I would like to pour bowls of the gravy over everything. The food was seasoned well and the portion size was enough for me to have a lunch today and tomorrow. My friend had the roasted chicken, Mac n cheese and collard. She too agrees it was delicious. The restaurant is open, spacious, clean and modern. There are about 4 booths, 3 large tables that can accommodate parties of 6-8 and several two person tables in the inside and the outdoor patio area. I arrived around 1:00 p.m. on a weekday to a half full restaurant that was completely full before I left. There is also a dedicated take out area for mobile,app and delivery orders.
