I've always been a fan of Carolina Kitchen, so I stopped by recently because I had a craving for ribs. I was told the wait would be about 10 minutes, but it ended up being closer to 20, which was a bit frustrating. I also noticed ribs being served to other customers during that time, which felt a little unprofessional. That said, I ordered pork ribs, jerk chicken, mac and cheese, collard greens, potato salad, and cabbage for my mom and me--and everything was delicious. The flavors were exactly what I was hoping for. Despite the longer wait, the quality of the food definitely delivered.

This is my new primary location for Carolina Kitchen. This location has sooo many options, in the most convenient location and it's nice and cozy. I super wish that CK will go back to being a full service restaurant but I can deal this way for now.

The Mac and cheese was runny. Greens were good. The chicken was okay. My point of contention was the price. It's way too expensive for fried chicken 3 piece with 2 sides. The portions are large, lasted 2 days. The chicken had been sitting for a while because it's cafeteria style. It's hit or miss. I did like the reusable bag. They have a lot of competition and they need to step up their game .

I stopped in on an early Friday evening with a craving for fried chicken. I like that Carolina kitchen offers the buffet style line for to go orders. Unfortunately, they didn't have any fried chicken wings ready. The closest option was the spicy chicken chunks. It was essentially spicy marinated chicken breast. I ordered greens and Mac & cheese for sides. The restaurant was pretty empty when I went but the space was large and dimly lit with similar wall art/decor as their other locations. I would return again but would suggest that they prepare food in time for the dinner rush so that patrons are able to order what they want.

Visiting from Ontario, Canada and stopped at this gem! Lots of seating area, big tables if you are with a large group, we have never been before and we asked one of the guests leaving how to order. They let us know it's done cafeteria style - we went at 7:30 which is prime dinner time, they were going through the trays of food as we were lining up. Lots of options from fish to different types of chicken, lots of sides to pick from. We ordered a 2 piece chicken white meat and 2 side and it was enough to feed 2 of us, the portions are very good.

Just love the vegan menu! Everything is always so flavorful and delicious. Makes giving up meat an easy transition with all their yummy options. The vegan greens, Mac and cheese and greens are all delicious choices. The potato salad is interesting. I'm not a fan of sweet potato salad. Today I tried the Jack Fruit soup and it was so good! Already looking forward to my next visit.

Food, mostly delicious, Carolina Kitchen can "consider" REDUCING the sugar on the yams and they'd probably taste a LOT better; the Mac N Cheese is good, but sometimes gritty - not sure why; the meats and vegetables are on point . The Sweet Tea and Lemonade is good too. Service is good, no complaints there; and ambiance is okay - there's music and the decor is nicely done.

Welcome! Welcome! This place was 10/10 in all aspects! The ambience was welcoming and warm. Like coming home almost from the hostess to the bar staff, cashier and servers they were friendly and attentive. The dinning room was open and clean. There were various people dinning and the staff would come around to check on everyone even though it's more of a takeout/self-serve vibe. Okay star of the show.. the food!! Y'all. The food was delectable, like perfectly seasoned crispy whiting. The greens were so good and tender. The max and cheese was gooey and crispy around the edges sooo cheesy! The cornbread... oh my god... the cornbread. A crispy sweet cinnamon topping with moist inside served warm! my friends got the fried chicken and agreed everything else was absolutely delicious! Skip the lemonade :/ probably my only thumbs down. It was straight sugar lol I added an entire cup of water to my lemonade and it was still too sweet. Other than that everything was perfect!

The restaurant needs to be treated for bedbugs and the managers need training on customer service. I hated to post this here but the restaurant does not have a company page and no one has returned my call to address my concerns even after I have called 3 times. December 12th, I visited this location, along with 6 other colleagues, for lunch. We placed our orders and had been sitting less than 10 minutes when a bedbug was spotted crawling on the table. I immediately got up to get management but to no avail. The manager on duty never came around to look at what was killed on the table but instead stated that she had been there 9 months and never encountered that problem. She didn't look at my pictures or take my name; however the cashier at the front took my name and number. Traumatized, I left the restaurant with an extra plate that I purchased. I contacted the manager immediately for a refund and she said I had to bring the food back along with my receipt. My food cost $25.44, and that's okay if I don't get a refund, I'll live with the loss because I'm never going back. What I tasted before seeing the bedbug was good, but after that, I was immediately sick. All I will say is eat here at your own risk. I took pictures of the bedbug on the table, & while I was attempting to talk to the manager, one of my colleagues took a picture underneath the table, just trying to make sure... & look what he caught....a bedbug under the table. I'm really surprised at the overall experience especially since this restaurant has not been opened long.

Welcome welcome welcome!!!!! Great location great customer service and great food. I love this location. Keep up the great job Carolina Kitchen. Love the welcoming atmosphere and hospitality.

Sweet and sour chicken with black eyed peas and Mac and cheese

Please don't ever come here. First off, the staff provides horrible customer service. Everyone had an attitude in the place including the manager. The icing on the cake is that the food is worse than the bad customer service. Paid over $70 for 3 plates and the food is bad. Mac n cheese is probably the worst velveta cheese. Run from this place.

My first time at this location and I must say that it's very modern, updated and upscale. I was greeted by a staff member upon entering and as I excited she enthusiastically shouted, "See you tomorrow" with a warm smile. I ordered the smothered chicken with collard greens (omg...they were so delicious) and potato salad which was my motivation for going in the first place. I just LOVE their potato salad. The menu and taste were certainly consistent with other locations.

I have mixed feelings about my dining experience at Carolina Kitchen's newest location in Capitol Heights. I've been a fan since the first one opened at Capitol Boulevard many moons ago. The owner has always had an eye for detail and all of his restaurants are impressive looking inside to say the least. This one is just as impressive. So on my weekly lunch date with my mother, we decided to try the new CK knowing the food will be hot and tasty! Upon entering, there's the customary hostess stand but where is the hostess?!? I asked the workers behind the food stations, do we seat ourselves and she responded, yes! Does a server come to us or do we have to order our food at the counter even though we're dining in and she responded, yes...well DA*N!! So after getting my mom's order, I went down the line and received our meals in white styrofoam containers. I then had to stroll down to the self-serve drink dispensers to get our drinks. Now, if this was a discount establishment like Golden Corral, I wouldn't feel so annoyed. Carolina Kitchen is NOT cheap! I'd say they're more expensive than Kitchen Cray and Milk & Honey and guess what, both of these minority owned establishments offer FULL service accommodations. That said, can a brotha get real silverware because it's extremely difficult cutting a fried pork chop with a plastic knife..SMH!! I'm not sure how Carolina Kitchen does dinner service, but for lunch, it's do it yourself.. Food was excellent though..LOL!

Period…read more I've been seeing this place all over social media, so when I found myself in the area, I had to see what the hype was about. First off, parking is easy. It's in a shopping center, so nothing stressful there, and the restaurant itself is easy to spot. Walking in, the first thing I noticed was how clean, polished, and classy everything looked. Even though it was busy, it didn't feel chaotic. The staff immediately greeted me and asked if it was my first time which I appreciated. They didn't just rush me through the line; they actually took time to explain the menu, how the bowls are built, and offered samples. That alone made the experience feel welcoming and intentional. Now let's get into the FOOD. Everything looked fresh. They have about four rice options (which is already a win), and I went with the pineapple coconut rice. For my protein, I chose grilled chicken, but they also offer shrimp, salmon, and even a mushroom option for vegetarians and honestly, the mushrooms looked so good I almost switched. For my added sides, I kept it simple because I really wanted to taste everything. Collard greens and sweet potatoes. But they also had plantains, and okra....real deal soul food options. Then you get into the fresh toppings. Slaws, carrots, pickled veggies. I kept it light. I finished my bowl with collard green pesto (which intrigued me, and I'm glad I tried it) and added an étouffée sauce over my rice... and listen!!!!! That combo? Chef's kiss. I grabbed a tropical punch juice, and just like everything else, it tasted fresh and well-made. Let me say this clearly: the food is a 10/10. If you're someone who will give Chipotle chance after chance, then you absolutely owe it to yourself to try Spice Black. 10/10. Worth your money. Worth the hype. Worth the experience.

The restaurant is nicely decorated with vibrant colors and very clean. The service is friendly and welcoming. The food was okay. Not bad and just good in my opinion. Its not rave worthy but its still good. I would come back and try other options. This is still a good healthier option oppose to the many of terrible choices we have to choose from, this beats most unhealthy fast foods restaurants. For that reason I would return to try other food options. If you like chickpeas then this is your meal, Im not so it threw off the salad to me. I would have preferred chicken. Honestly, everything came together nicely as one salad, nothing was over powering. I'm just not a fan of chickpeas. They do have an option for shrimp but dont eat bottom feeders so that wasn't an option for me. My tastebuds are much different from yours so I would still give it a try. You might like it a little more than me. Its still a fairly good meal.

This review is for the location inside the skating rink but I'm going to share it here as well…read more First, maybe it's my fault for ordering from this location inside of a skating rink because what I got was skating rink caliber food. I thought I was ordering from the other location. My bad! I can't believe she opened another location where she apparently has not improved on her business practices. I have ordered at this location and waited over an hour for my order. The food was STAMP just like Schlim said, but the wait is just ludicrous. So the couple times I went there after I just packed my patience. This evening I needed to grab some food quickly before heading to an event. I had no idea what I wanted. Open up the app and LMG popped up. I ordered for pickup on Uber Eats. When I arrived, almost an hour after I placed the order, they said they needed a "couple minutes" after she went over and finally looked at it. They do not check the app orders. They have no business dealing with anything not right in front of them. They can barely handle that! That couple minutes turned into an hour. I had to finally go up to the counter when I saw other people getting their food quickly. That got the woman behind the counters attention. Because I think she forgot again. She apologized and said they had been swamped. Is that my problem? Then she tried to offer me a drink for compensation. Um, are we talking about the same drink I ordered and paid for. At that point I just wanted to go. Got home and opened the food. As long as it took, you would have thought it was freshly cooked. Everything looked like it had been sitting around all day. When I saw the turkey wings as a special, I knew I had screwed up. It was old. The gumbo greens were disappointing. They burned it and had the nerve to serve it to me as if I wouldn't notice. I have it sitting here with the lid on, the burnt smell keeps smacking me in the face. Here's the best part. The oxtail egg rolls did not taste freshly cooked. After I started eating the second one, I found these cooked inside. It's not edible or part of the stuffing It's definitely some kind of plastic. Disgusting. The turkey wings and Mac and cheese were barely edible. Especially the mac and cheese. I have eaten before at their other location and despite the extra long wait there too, the food was fresh and tasted great. No complaints there. So I was expecting food that would make it worth the wait. This time, they had the nerve to make me wait on barely edible food. Food that absolutely belonged inside of the bowling alley it's located in. Extremely disappointing. I won't ever be going back. I don't give my hard earned money to restaurants that waste my time and serve slop containing plastic to add insult to injury.

I stated that site isn't on the ig to place and order. I was told that if I type the business name in DoorDash or uber eats while I'm standing outside, it'll come up. I told the young gentleman to have a great day. He wasn't rude, but I won't be supporting this business. Something about this interaction didn't sit right with me. However, my experience revealed a significant disparity between the stated purpose and the actual atmosphere created by the owner. The irony: The event was a documentary, discussion, and supporting the vendors who came. During the discussion portion after the documentary, comments and thoughts were welcomed, so I shared my thoughts specifically highlighting resources on collective healing and rest in relation to generational and historic racial injustice/oppression (resources such as the Nap Ministry). The vendors and attendees were kind and friendly, and a few were curious about the grassroots healing organization I mentioned. What I noticed was, while the owner was notably attentive and warm toward his white patrons and others, his demeanor toward me, the only Indian woman there, was inexplicably hostile and impatient. It left me confused. In his direct comments to me, he indicated a disdain he had for "Indian people" with the generalization that "Indians are the most successful in this racist system and are therefore part of the problem." I was painted with a stereotype that has nothing to do with me. It was disappointing to see a space dedicated to 'liberation' revert to such narrow, localized profiling of a supporter like myself, especially considering that my intention for being there was the exact opposite. This attitude of blindly disparaging Indians is the same anti-blackness he claims to oppose. It is ironic that in a space claiming to fight racism white supremacy, the owner reserves his most aggressive scapegoating for a dark skinned woman of color who was there to offer genuine support (an easy target for misplaced hostility), all while changing his demeanor for the white guests. It contradicts the grassroots racial struggle he claims to represent and left a bad taste in my mouth. The food was overpriced but watered down, cold, and lacked flavor. The whole atmosphere was cold, low vibrational, grievance and money driven, and lacked the vitality and integrity one would expect at this price point. Quality is a result of Presence. Because the owner's heart was closed and his mind was set on getting money for low quality food and finding a scapegoat, the food had no life-force. I have withdrawn my support from this place.
