I noticed it's very difficult to find authentic Jamaican food in the DMV /Maryland. I've heard so many transplants with the same feedback. I decided to try this restaurant and honestly What a disappointment. I ordered 2 entrees, extra sides and an appetizer. Our waitress, Ivie F brought 12 pieces of wings when we ordered when we only ordered 6 as per the menu. Once we brought it to her attention she said sternly "well I heard 12" and walked away. What kind of service is this? I ordered the following menu items: Oxtails- 1out of 5 very watered down, sauce extremely dark and flavorless Jerk wings- 2 out of 5 Callaloo- 4 out of 5 very hard to find vegetable here in the US. This was very well prepared String beans -3 out of 5 Fish- 3 out of 5 nice presentation but overcooked/ dry Festival- 2 out of 5 Lemon drop- 3 out of 5 The food didn't taste authentic nor traditional. The flavors felt watered down, too much sauce or just plain salty. My husband (originally from Jamaica) who owns a Jamaican restaurant in another state figured he would help a fellow Jamaican out by giving some tips. The manager explained that the people in Maryland like it this way but he wouldn't cook it like this at home! Lol I've never heard such a response as a Caribbean restaurant you should take pride in authenticity always. I highly doubt with this experience I will be back.

Went back for a second visit. This time, I tried the rum punch. It has the hard to find Wray and nephew over proof rum. OMG, the best rum punch I ever had. The owner "Shawn" stopped by to chat. The waitress "Britney" was also lovely. This is our new spot . My friend loved it too! The restaurant is great! I hope they stay in Bowie. Ambiance is friendly and welcoming:

This being in the old Pizza Hut always intrigued me. I finally got the chance recently to try their food. The inside was very dark and to me still gave the feel of an old Pizza Hut maybe that's just 90's kids nostalgia in me. The food was okay. I ordered the oxtail combos with curry chicken. I ordered my oxtail spicy and all they did was add scotch bonnet peppers so the flavor ain't really changed or was hot unless you had a pepper in a bite. For a Jamaican spot the portion size was kind of small. All in all to me this place was just solid, it's something about a Caribbean sit down restaurant that kind of just lack soul for me.

I have been wanting to try Shantoo for months. I was on the fence between giving them a 4 or a 3. I chose a 4 for the service. Our waitress was new but was very friendly and attentive and funny. I would also give a 4 for cleanliness, ambience, and timeliness. We came for lunch and were the first ones there. Everything came out quickly and hot. They deserve a 3 for price! The $10 lunch special was actually $16. Please fix your menu OR honor the price you state on your menu. I got oxtails to go and they charged $36 for 3 small plantains, some rice and peas, and 5 oxtails. Are you serious!!! Either give me more food or drop your price accordingly. In terms of taste, I give the stew chicken, the beef patty, sorell, and coco bread a 3, the jerk chicken a 3.5, the oxtails are a 4, the rice and peas, cabbage, and plantains are all a 4. They were good just not enough of them. Overall this place has great potential but needs to improve the flavor of some dishes and match their prices to the quality and portions of their food to be a 5 in my book.

Had dinner on a Friday evening. Arrived about 7 PM. There was plenty of parking. I was surprised to see that for Friday evening. The restaurant was only about 30% full. That is a telltale sign in itself. The bar got progressively more busy as the night went on. The best part was our waitress. I wish I had gotten her name. It looked like she was also the bartender. She was attentive. She checked in on us. She got us everything in a timely manner. Outside of that, everything was just kind of average. Maybe I don't go out enough but &14 for a cocktail for me felt like a lot. Our food was good. Just good. Nothing was awful. Although, the mild escovitch sauce was VERY vinegar forward. They give you cocoa bread as a starter. It was good, but it would've been better if it was fresher or made in house. Overall, it was a decent meal. There was nothing that was so amazing that I plan to go back again.

This place is located in a old Pizza Hut. Stopped by after leaving a winery and wanted to grab some food to go. The jerk wings and beef patty were really good. I was surprised that this place has a full bar. I definitely plan to come back and sit down and enjoy those vibes. Service was actually very good. I know there's this ongoing joke that if you go to a Jamaican or Caribbean spot and the service is good, then the food probably isn't, or vice versa. The service here was good here and the food was good.

This space is what used to be a Pizza Hut. The vibe is easy and the music is relaxing and not too loud. There's a nice sized bar in the middle of the restaurant space and patrons are having lively conversations. I ordered an oxtail plate for my wife to enjoy and she was very pleased with the oxtail, plantains and steamed cabbage. I must confess that I forgot to order peas and rice with this dish. So to compensate, I made rice at home to supplement this arrangement. The chef came from the kitchen to make sure it was my order that he was preparing and it was nice gesture for a staff member to check the order and meet the patron that ordered it. I'll be sure to sit in next time to take in the vibes and their other menu items as well.

    $38.60 for Oxtail & Bean

While I think the food is tastes okay, the portions are disproportionately smaller and not worth the overall cost of the food. I was craving Caribbean food and thought to give this place a try but I doubt I'll do that again. I spent over $170 on a few items and when I received it, the food was leaking from containers into the bag, I looked at the portions and thought where's the rest. The most disappointing was ordering 2 entrees of oxtail and beans and paying $39.60 for each one and receiving a container that looked like this. Maybe there were 3-4 pieces of oxtail, I don't even see many beans, I felt like I was swindled out of my money. I love eating from community places but these costs don't represent true value of the food.

    Coco Bread (Complimentary) with meal
    Darlene P.

I tried to give this establishment another try, however it was not good at all. First let's say the wait time for food is horrible, and especially for what we ordered. The coco bread was brought out for starters, it had a weird taste, almost as if refrigerated and warmed up, and very crumbly. The whiting was ok, but better the first time I had it, this time it was just ok. Those French fries.. they don't need to serve no more fries.. looked and tastes old. The cabbage was overly saturated with parsley... and the rice and peas were dry. The highlight of the night was the jerk chicken. Asked For bone in white meat... was served chicken tenders with jerk sauce.. and told they don't have bone in white meat!!!??? Why ask if you want bone in or bone out white meat? And it was dryyyyyyy, had to get extra sauce just to eat it. Overall, I don't know, it's just not for me..

    Snapper Whole

Food is delicious! The snapper chef kiss! I had some hickory BBQ smoke wings. They are so good! Must try. 4 stars only because the service is a hit or miss. I've been to this restaurant about 5 times and each time is a different experience. The first time I came the owner came out and was greeting everyone ( which set the tone for my expectations) the last time I came. We sat there for almost an hr in a half with not even appetizer had arrived. But all in all the food has never disappointed. It's been times I come just for the wings and the owner was the only one in the back cooking. I commend the owner. He's a hard working man with a beautiful spirit. Please check this place out. Your stomach will be very happy with you.

    Curried Goat Meal

Let's talk about the place where you can go for a meal that taste like grandma is in the kitchen! Delicioso!! That's the word for every bite of food I ate. The thick richness of the curry goat to the home made callaloo!!! I raised my hands in praise for every bite that made me feel like I was back in the islands. Sitting in our booth with a smooth Caribbean sound in the background....Thanks so much Shantoo! What a pleasure to share your food with me & my friends!!

    Rum punch

I took a friend there today. Her first time, my 4th. The food was amazing. The rum punch......no joke. You are easily transported to Jamaica. I had the brown stew beef, rice and peas, and cabbage. Shawn, the owner was welcoming, sat and talked with us. It feels like family here.

The server was knowledgeable and if he didn't know the answer to one of our questions (as first-timers), he found the answer for us. All of our dishes were on point! The website states "From Farmer's Hands To Ours. It Starts With Local, Fresh Ingredients". Certainly, that statement shined with the execution and taste of our dishes! Our party of 4 ordered Smoked and Brined Chicken Wings, Fried Oysters, Spinach Salad with Blackened Chicken, Greek Salad with Shrimp, Bone-In Pork Chop (blackened, with Korean BBQ Cream, Corn & Pepper Saute, and mashed potatoes), and the Bistro Steak. Every thing was enjoyed by all! Seasonings were well-balanced, Food was tasty, salads were fresh, and portions were very decent. The Harvest Smash dessert is amazing and should be ordered! It's upside down apple pie with pecans and Bourbon Caramel - a la mode. We also ordered chocolate bourbon cake....the cake had the most perfect texture and taste. You can't go wrong with either of those. Hurry and go to this place as soon as you can.

We have celebrated many familial milestones/celebrations and professional accomplishments @ Harvest Thyme. The nostalgia of the servers and ownership has often felt engaging and alluring to me and our family & friends. My dining experience this afternoon was a far departure from the 4 stars standard experience of years clearly in the rearview. Items Ordered - The Bibb & Blue side salad was drenched in bleu dressing; I shared my concerns with our server whom was void of any response and acknowledgement. Items Ordered - 6oz Steak Frites ordered rare; The steak was served beyond the desired temperature. I waited for the server to return to our booth and I cut in the 6oz again to visually demonstrate the temperature of the steak actually arrived was definitely rare minimal/ to no pink was detectable. Our server said she would send the manager over momentarily. Once the manager arrived, he inquired about the entree and I shared and demonstrated for the 2nd time. I returned the steak frites and ordered the Beggars Pasta and added am additional Beef protein. That the conclusion of our meal as we noticed that we were charged for the entree that was returned. I inquired further and was giving a $15.00 gift card (I was charged $25.00 for an entree returned due to overcooking) by the Manager and was told "Thats All YOU get" and that the policy of the restaurant is if you order a dish you have to pay for it. When I inquired, he stated that's all you get!! I was offended as a patron, a human being, and a citizen electing to choose Harvest Thyme in a national wide affordability crisis. $127.00 for lunch is UNACCEPTABLE for lunch especially for an entree I did Not consume. No one communicated the policy beforehand nor does it seem to lineup with industry standards. $15.00 does not cover the cost & tax of the returned entree. I scoured the Harvest Thyme website and the receipt and I did not find such a policy. We were appalled by the lack of professionalism, posse, tack, empathy from the manager. His behavior and demeaner were absolutely inexcusable. Once we departed the restaurant, it was clear and present that I was upset as I retreated to my vehicle. A fellow patron encouraged me to directly communicate with ownership regarding my experience. Further research revealed the drastic decline in glowing reviews related to staffing, dining experiences, and culinary standards. Why were we treated so poorly at 1pm on a Thursday? My wife saw they had black bean soup and a pork special, so we decided to stay and were seated. Since our last visit about a year ago, they've made some changes. The seating has been updated, with a second bar added along with high-top tables and booths. The space looks very nice. Our server came over, took our drink order, and we asked for a bowl of the black bean soup. When he returned, my wife asked how the pork special was, and he said it was very good, so she ordered it. I ordered the cod fish and chips. When the food came out, everything looked good at first. Unfortunately, the fish and chips were very greasy -- it seemed like the fries were placed on the plate to soak up the grease from the fish. My wife's pork dish was worse. She was given two slices with connective tissue running through them that were so tough she couldn't even get a fork into them. The other piece was also extremely tough and difficult to cut, and the gravy had no flavor. When our server finally came back to check on us, my wife showed him the pork. His response was simply that he would let the manager know and take it off the bill. There was no offer to replace the dish or bring her something else to eat. After that, we never saw him again. My wife eventually asked another server for tea, which a different server brought. Later, another server came by to see if we were finished. I asked how much the eggnog was, and she quoted the price for a bottle, said I just want a glass, she said I'll get you a menu I explained to another waitress I just wanted a glass. Eventually, I got it -- though I asked for it without ice, and it still came with ice. At that point, I just drank it. The best thing was the bean soup. Overall, this was not a good meal and honestly the worst experience we've had in the 10+ years we've been coming here. Between the food quality and the lack of follow-up from our server, it was very disappointing. It will be quite a while before we return.

DJ, if you're reading this, throw in some Back next time and you'll have me leaving a 10/10 Real talk, BCG is a hidden gem. Great food, great vibes, great energy. Worth the trip out the city, no question. I'll definitely be bacK

We ordered one cup of Maryland crab and two grilled chicken sandwiches. Twenty minutes go by and the waitress tells us our order will be out soon. The thirty minute mark hits and she comes back and apologizes, says she is new and the order wasn't submitted. The soup is ready and will be right out. At 40 minutes she brings us one cream of crab soup. We remind her it is suppose to be Maryland crab and she apologizes, takes it back with a woman with longer black hair. That woman with the black hair gives the table next to us (who were seated 15 mins ago) their food. She goes past us again to give them extra plates. I ask her, can we please get the soup? She knew we were waiting, she heard there was a mixup, did absolutely nothing to make it right. She's bringing extra plates to the table next to us. She comes back with another cup of cream of crab and two salads. We said we give up and left. At no point did anyone offer a roll or anything to us. Knowing they kept bringing the wrong thing or hating us wait for that long. We sat there and wasted 46 minutes to drink water.

We had a 10 minute wait which wasn't bad. I ordered the Texas size combo with Chicken critters and Sirloin with a side of mashed potatoes. The plating was a bit off putting because the juice from the steak got on chicken tenders and I didn't like that. I asked for onions and mushrooms on the steak but it was drowning the steak. Most of it got pushed to the side because it was too much. Honestly, the only part of my entree that I enjoyed was the chicken critters. That doesn't include the bread and butter because that is always the star of the show here. The customer service was pretty good and fast. I do wish she would have let me know that certain things like the onions were an up charge. I haven't been here in a while and maybe it was for a good reason. I remember the food tasting better but that wasn't the case this time around. I will likely go back at some point but it won't be anytime soon.

The service itself was good, and even though we were quoted a 20-minute wait, it ended up being closer to 10 minutes, which was a nice surprise. Once we were seated, though, things felt a little rushed. Our server seemed ready to take our order almost immediately, before we'd even had two minutes to sit down and look at the menu. Not a huge issue, just a bit fast-paced right out the gate. I ordered the 8 oz New York strip with a sweet potato and green beans. The steak was cooked perfectly i asked for medium and it was flavorful. The sweet potato was good, but there was a bit too much brown sugar for my taste. The green beans were fresh with a nice hint of bacon, which I really enjoyed. My friend got the smothered chicken with just gravy and cheese (no peppers, onions, or mushrooms) and a side of loaded mashed potatoes, which she really liked--they were fully loaded and satisfying. She also got a side of corn, which she didn't enjoy as much because it tasted a little frozen. Her blue crushed drink was also very sweet--heavy on the syrup and not diluted enough with water. That said, the overall experience was still great. We love the atmosphere, the music, and the energy of the place. Other than feeling a bit rushed at the beginning, everything else hit the mark. I would definitely come back.

After I raised my concerns with the manager--who was another Black woman and tried to address the issue--Issac falsely claimed that I had cursed at him, which was untrue. As a Black woman, I felt that Issac was empowered to shut me down and dismiss my presence, perpetuating a pattern where Black women are not supported or acknowledged. Despite the manager's efforts, the lack of accountability and the discriminatory treatment I experienced made me feel unwelcome. I will not be returning to this establishment. I plan on taking legal action.

For a foodie this is perfect! Oooh were we wrong. Plans failed! This restaurant is part of Oak Creek golf course in a residential area, super convenient if you're a resident! Now, for guest, parking is ample if there is no event going on. The venue is pretty and well kept. Restrooms very tidy. The staff are so sweet but the logic behind management is off. You'd think if an event was happening you'd plan for folks to come early to eat dinner. A perfect opportunity that was missed by the choice to close early only to reopen. Odd. Having an event here was pretty unorganized. They had a coffee table that I don't believe was part of the venue possibly a vendor. Most definitely would come try to dine in if I was back in the area. Let's get into it! Firecracker Shrimp - OMG good! Wings - Delicious Nachos - Delicious Coffee - Just okay.

She was excited to introduce me to a new restaurant since she CLAIMS I always pick..smh! I love Annapolis so checking out Rumhouse was a win for her and a win for me! So Rumhouse is just that, a converted house with several dining tables and a small bar. It sort of reminds me of a smaller "Prime 112" in Southbeach, for those who've been. Definitely not as fancy as Prime 112, but Rumhouse has "Island" charm for sure! The food is pricey but GOOOOD! My favorites were the giant prawns, crab cake appetizer and the lamb chops. They make one hell of a Caipirnanha, which just so happens to be my all time favorite cocktail. Service was impeccable! The owners are a married couple, who just so happen to be an Oral Surgeon and OB/Gyn respectively. The male half was there the evening we came and stopped by to say hello. He wanted our honest opinion and we certainly gave it to him. He was extremly pleasant and sincere. I love patronizing Caribbean/West Indian restaurants because the culture and food are dear to my heart, but I think Rumhouse missed it. We tried the Crab Cake with Guasacaca, Coconut Callaloo Soup, Oxtail Pappardelle, Crab & Dumplings and the New Orleans Gumbo. For me, the food lacked spice/seasoning. It wasn't the greatest nor was it the worst. I wanted to love the Callaloo Soup so bad, but it was just bland *insert crying emoji here*. The gumbo was just ok. I just don't have anything to rave about. The interior is a bit on the smaller side; so, ensure you have reservations. Service was good. That's all I got. lol...but, enjoy, and try for yourself.
