But it's easy to spot very boldly decorated. I called 20 minutes in advance, and when I got there, they were able to hand it to me after I paid without delay. They gave me a good amount of suya and I actually liked that they gave you a paste option for spices as well as the powder option. I prefer the powder, but the paste was also great and together, it lasted the whole bowl. Personally, I like onions, wish there was a little more inside, but that's very minor. The suya itself was a good cut of meat and well cooked, not too tough with good fat content ! would recommend!

I decided to get the porridge yam (Asaro) with chicken and greens. It took about 20 minutes, so I decided to run to the gym and get a quick workout in while waiting. It took another minute or so when I got back, but the staff were very friendly and apologetic for the wait! They showed me the food before putting it in the bag. I got very excited! I got home, started a movie and dug in. The chicken and greens were good, but the Asaro was DEFINITELY the star of the show. So very flavorful and satisfying! My only wish is that there was more of the porridge itself! I could have an entire bowl of that alone! I will definitely be back to Jodeem to try more menu items.

They do ask for at least 48 hours for catering orders so make sure to give yourself enough time. That being said, I was overjoyed when they were able to provide a trade for me within 24 hours. It was just jollof rice so it might not have been as difficult if it had been a main entree but nonetheless I was able to pick it up that evening but ordering over the phone that day of. I had never been into that shopping center before so it was interesting to see the other businesses sharing the space. I walked in about 10 minutes before they close however I called to inform them I was on my way and was quickly greeted. I didn't know stew came with jolloff rice and when I was offered it, I declined. When the young lady in the back told me it comes with it, I then said oh yes, of course. They called it stew so I thought it was a bowl of soup lol. Turns out, you actually put it over the jollof rice and Game Changer! The jolloff wasn't overly powered with flavor or vegetables mixed within but I'm guessing that's what the stew is for. I definitely would order her catering trays from them if I need them in the future. I couldn't get enough of that rice and had to stop myself from eating it. It was a perfect base for the bowls I made for a catered lunch. I wanted suya and jollof but they only offer jollof so that's what I went with from them. Pick up an ordering was extremely easy

I'm giving it 3 stars because I didn't experience their service since I didn't have dinner there…read more So I was there for a meeting where the group pretty much booked the restaurant. Now the food we consumed came from the restaurant and I can tell you that it was HELLLAAAAAAA TASTY!! We had the joluf (sorry if I misspelled that) rice, the cabbage, chicken and fish. Let me break it down for you: Rice - sooo sooo sooo goood. Loved the level of spiciness. Didn't need anything else could be eaten alone well I definitely ate it alone lolzzz. Now unsure it all of their joluf rice is always that spicy but either way buyer be warn if you eating African food just be ready for some level of spiciness and don't complain about it. Cabbage - hm hm hm good. So great especially when paired with the rice. Honestly the best part of my meal I saw it and automatically knew that I wanted it. Also spicy so NO COMPLAINTS Fish - so well spiced like the flavor was in the skin inside the fish and in every nook and cranny of the bones YUMMMM Chicken - YUM YUM YUM ugh why add anything else?

I now understand why this place had no customers. 1. The…read morefood is overpriced. 2. The rice tasted old--its texture made that obvious. (Came back to add the rice tastes like the pan was dirty). 3. The plantains had a strange taste and texture. They were dry and completely flavorless. 4. The beef--oh my. It was tough, bland, and served in a ridiculously small portion. I need to emphasize the portion size again--it was tiny. When I cut the beef in half and took a bite, I immediately realized it wasn't good. I went to the counter and politely asked if I could swap the beef for fish instead. I was told "No."--unless I paid for an entirely new plate. The reason? Because I had already taken a bite. Well, yes, I had--how else would I know it was bad? Overall, this place deserves zero stars. They didn't have any drinks available either. The customer service was poor--they simply didn't care whether I was satisfied or not. They got their $35, and that was the end of it. We won't be back, and we'll make sure our friends and family know this place is not worth their time or money. As for the ambiance--it was clean, but it was clear they don't get many customers. Now I understand why.

This restaurant is a bit confusing to identify. Your GPS will get you here but once here, you may…read morequestion if you're at the right place. It has 2 names. There are 2 restaurants in one. I did choose to eat from the Zion Kitchen menu which on the day, I regretted. I am not a big African cuisine consumer so I wasn't aware that it was going to be HOT. The menu didn't mention everything was going to be hot. It was so hot that I let it touch my tongue only twice and then told them to bag it. I did request some rice because I figure if I ever do get the courage to eat it, the rice will help. Everything is a-la-carte and if you don't know to order something, you just have a very sad meal. The menu hints at telling you, you should order all 3 parts but you could expect your stew to have something in it but it will not. Your stew is a soup or better yet a broth of sorts. You have to also order a starch and a protein unless of course you only want the blazing hot broth. Not only was it spicy, it was scolding hot which amplifies the spice. Once I got it home and warmed it up the next day, I added some honey to it to cut the heat and it worked perfectly. I'm sure it did however change the intended taste but if the intended taste is fire, that's not my cup of tea. Also, there wasn't a lot of meat on the things that I ordered but the "beef" was good. I tried the combo but that had a little piece of beef and cow foot which is a type of fat that you have to bite off the bone and then something that was similar in texture to the fat on the cow feet but I think it was ... I don't even remember what it was. It wasn't bad but it wasn't meat.

Food was brought directly to me once ready. Food: I was informed that it was chicken but seems to be beef as well. It also came with plantains and white rice. The portion for the price was good. What was supposed to be chicken seemed like just fat pieces so no actual chicken pieces. There was one big piece of beef (presumed) that gave me the chance to try the dish as a whole. The dish was very flavorful & amazing. The dish was spicy which I didn't expect but it wasn't over powering or too much. It was just enough and brought the dish together. This is not the last time I will be eating at Zion kitchen. The menu has other items I would LOVE to try NOTE: For reference, the portion was not enough to share but a single serving. To my understanding the amount can vary. This review is based on what I received through the "Too go to Go" app. I'm sure portion sizes are different directly from the store

Swahili Village - Updated Review…read more At this point, I've been to Swahili Village too many times to count , but this was my first time experiencing their Rosé Brunch, which I believe is a newer endeavor for them. We went during Maryland Restaurant Week, so I was definitely interested in seeing what brunch at a spot I already knew would be like. The brunch had PLENTY of choices! African staples like jollof rice, suya, plantains, etc., mixed in with American breakfast favorites like pancakes, waffles, scrambled eggs, bacon and chicken wings. So whether you wanted an African plate, a traditional breakfast plate or a little bit of BOTH, you had options. Now, that first round of food was GOOD...but COLD. And I mean food that would've been hitting if it had just been hot! We mentioned it and asked if they could replenish some of the items, which they did. That second round was MUCH better. Fresh, hot and definitely more of what I expected. I appreciated that they corrected it when we brought it to their attention. The restaurant was clean, and the décor was beautiful. I've always appreciated how Swahili Village showcases the beauty of Africa throughout the space, but Kenya in particular is beautifully represented. The cultural touches really add something special to the atmosphere. Now...the service. Everyone was nice, but multitasking was definitely a struggle. We constantly had to ask someone to find our waitress. Basic things were being missed. Like ma'am...PLEASE pour us some more water!!!! It appeared that our waitress was training, which I can understand, but there still should have been someone making sure the table was being taken care of while she learned. Then came the discount situation. As part of Maryland Restaurant Week, I found a promotion online stating 20% off the meal. However, when it was time to actually apply it, the manager became very particular about which items qualified instead of applying the discount to the entire meal as the promotion appeared to state. Then there's already an automatic 18% service charge, followed by the request for an additional tip. With the level of service we received...that wasn't exactly sitting well with me. Then MORE back-and-forth. The Rosé Brunch apparently included complimentary rosé champagne because my friend was wearing red. Cute idea...except neither one of us drinks. So we asked if we could substitute a mocktail instead. Our waitress said, "Sure!" Perfect. Well...apparently NOT. ‍ That somehow turned into a no, followed by a whole bunch of word salad explaining why they couldn't do what we'd already been told they could do. Between our waitress, the waitress training her and the manager, it became way too much semantics, explaining and excuses. At some point, I don't need another explanation. I just want consistency and good service. I even told my friend that Swahili Village has received Michelin recognition, so my expectations were naturally a little higher. But THIS particular Sunday brunch experience? It didn't feel like that level of experience at all. The food selection was there. The beautiful African/Kenyan décor was there. And once the food was replenished and came out hot, the food was GOOD. The brunch concept definitely has potential, especially if this is something new they're building. But the service, communication and all that unnecessary back-and-forth really took away from what should have been an enjoyable Restaurant Week brunch. I've had enough previous experiences here to know what Swahili Village can offer. Unfortunately, brunch still has some work to do.

When I say all the staples were THERE, I mean THEY WERE THERE Amala Moi moi Pepper soup Jollof rice Fried rice Everything hot, fresh, flavorful and tasting like somebody's mother entered that kitchen with warning And can we discuss the drinks please?? Non alcoholic but SWEET, refreshing and pairing perfectly with all the food. Very family friendly atmosphere too. You can bring auntie, uncle, cousins, everybody Now let me tell the truth small because you know I don't lie for reviews The wait time? Hmmm. Table organization? They can improve that one too because people were kinda just standing around confused at moments. BUT no wahala this is still a new venture for them and honestly I can already see the vision. The most important thing for me? Their service was AMAZING and they accepted feedback very well instead of doing attitude. That part matters. I actually want to see this succeed because we need more innovative African food experiences in the DMV that push our cuisine to the forefront instead of acting like only tacos and burgers exist outside Jollof Etc Silver Spring, Maryland
