Finally!!! I convinced my husband to pick up food for us! I was so excited! It's been on my must try list for some time! Service was fast and efficient! It's a food truck so ambiance was just as expected! Most importantly it was clean. So, we were a bit surprised by the cost but overall the quality and quantity were worth it! Everything was fresh and flavorful! The jollof isn't what we are use to BUT it's still very tasty! We're actually on our way back today for a couple of small pans to last us a couple of days. Thank you, Project Suya for being so good, I don't have to cook for a couple of days! Please stay true to what you all are doing! God bless!!!

A few weeks ago, I stopped by the food truck and ordered the Meal Box with rice, suya, and fried plantains, which turned out to be the perfect combination. The pepper sauce added a nice touch, and I also had the chance to meet the two brothers who own the business, both of whom were warm and friendly . It would be great if they have nice seating outside.

I discovered Project Suya in Bowie on TikTok and the food looked so good that I had to try it for myself. They operate as a food truck (at least the Bowie location does), and you can order for pickup or delivery. Delivery was about $24, which felt pricey considering I also live in PG County, so I chose pickup instead. I ordered the meal pan ($25) with suya, plantain, and jollof rice. They package your order in a nice bag with a small water and a can of soda. My soda was unfortunately flat. The rice had a rich smoky flavor that really stood out, and the plantain was soft and flavorful. The suya was not bad, but I wish it had been a little more tender. The ordering system could use some improvement. I received a text saying my order was received, but after an hour I never got a follow-up text saying it was ready. I ended up calling and was told it was. When I arrived, it seemed like my order was not in the system, but the young lady on the truck pulled it together quickly, which I appreciated. No ambiance sit was a truck. Overall, the food was tasty and worth trying, but the ordering process felt confusing and could be smoother.

A waste of $54. This is my second time here, hoping the food would be better. Last time the food was okay. This time it was worse. I got a small suya and chicken for $54 worth of very bland food. I asked for no spice, no peppers. I didn't ask for flavorless food. There's no ambiance because it's a food truck. They did bring the food to my car so that was nice service.

    Not worth the money

I work in dc but live in Maryland. A coworker of mine ordered the project suya from the dc location and it was amazing. Which made me think that this one from Bowie would be the same. But mine it just seemed like they the gave me the fattiest part, came with so much fat on the meat and it doesn't even taste like the dc flavor. I know the meat coming cold is not their fault but I had to warm it up in the oven hence the picture I'm using. If you zoom in all u see if fatty parts.

The bartenders' skill set seems limited to cracking open a beer or the occasional home event, so adjust expectations accordingly; a cold Coors Light is about as adventurous as it gets. Most of the staff is friendly, though one manager who appears to be well past her customer-service era might want to consider retirement--her attitude does the atmosphere no favors. I hope they let their grandmother retire and rest up for the next life. She clearly has had a rough last couple of years. That said, the place itself is friendly enough and mostly clean, which counts for something.

The tab system makes it easy to move from room to room so you don't have to worry, it's easy to add drinks and food as you relax and enjoy the atmosphere. They usually have reservations and larger parties, but it's a pretty open/communal space, so there aren't typically issues with seating. All in all, a great spot for many occasions.

I did choose to eat from the Zion Kitchen menu which on the day, I regretted. I am not a big African cuisine consumer so I wasn't aware that it was going to be HOT. The menu didn't mention everything was going to be hot. It was so hot that I let it touch my tongue only twice and then told them to bag it. I did request some rice because I figure if I ever do get the courage to eat it, the rice will help. Everything is a-la-carte and if you don't know to order something, you just have a very sad meal. The menu hints at telling you, you should order all 3 parts but you could expect your stew to have something in it but it will not. Your stew is a soup or better yet a broth of sorts. You have to also order a starch and a protein unless of course you only want the blazing hot broth. Not only was it spicy, it was scolding hot which amplifies the spice. Once I got it home and warmed it up the next day, I added some honey to it to cut the heat and it worked perfectly. I'm sure it did however change the intended taste but if the intended taste is fire, that's not my cup of tea. Also, there wasn't a lot of meat on the things that I ordered but the "beef" was good. I tried the combo but that had a little piece of beef and cow foot which is a type of fat that you have to bite off the bone and then something that was similar in texture to the fat on the cow feet but I think it was ... I don't even remember what it was. It wasn't bad but it wasn't meat.
