This place deserves an update from me. I've never been to the restaurant and I was harsh in my initial review. No, it is not owned nor operated by W Africans but given the W African restaurants are readily available in this area (nor are they good), I order from here. Often. Very often. It's worth it. It is. No lie. I always order a few stews, the jollof, the pounded yam, the ginger drink and a couple different proteins and eat off of it for the week. It's delish. It really is, although it's not perfect. I do have a few issues... the containers for the stews aren't always filled, sometimes, the jollof is sometimes dry (it would be so nice to offer a lil condiment container of red pepper stew w/ the jollof), sometimes the efo riro is too spicy and not made w/ enough crawfish. I've ordered maybe 30x since this review (maybe more). I'm not a hater, I promise. I just prefer authentic cuisines that are made by those of that culture. Given no options, this is close enough.

I finally ate with my hands. Mark recommended Egusi with yam because I'm vegan. It was perfect. First time African food eater here. Clean place, nice atmosphere and good people. Hibiscus drink was good too.

We ordered delivery: egusi soup with goat and pounded yam, jollof rice with croaker, sans porridge, and a small side of stew. My tastebuds immediately snatched me back to the first time I ate West African food at the original location of Zion Kitchen on Minnesota Ave in NE DC about 20 years ago. I thought, "there's no way this is from DC, and I haven't been back since! I was so confused because the location on the app said Crab & Chicken in Laurel. The food was fresh, perfectly seasoned and delicious! So, today I ventured to the Crab & Chicken spot and demanded to know who was cooking! This little Honduran woman said "me, my boss taught me how to cook!" I hugged her. Come to find out, she'd been cooking at the original location for over 10 years! She let me sample her egusi soup and the peanut butter soup she was finishing up, chef's kiss!! I promised her I'd be back as soon as I could afford it again lol. I also said I couldn't wait to sample her native cuisine! I wish she could teach me how to cook West African food, but I get it!

A produce sticker in my food.

The impressive menu of interesting enthused caffienated or non options are many. The staff was very much attentive busy at work preparing the selections of the patrons. I chose the regular acai bowl and the 16oz Camp fire Night iced latte w/oatmilk(its a seasonal favor). I absolutely enjoyed my purchase. This place offers a very relaxed and quiet atmosphere with abundance of seating. The environment is conducive to sitting with the dazzling sun enjoying the moment at the high top or seating low chairs, doing a little reading or work on your computer. The options are up to you but the vibe and setting is everything. While sitting here enjoying my acai bowl and latte, I watched the lady come in with more beautiful black art pieces. Not that I looked specifically to seek out a female owned cafe during National female month; it was my pleasure to have patronized a dope black female owned business. I highly recommend anyone to come and visit this uplifting cafe. It definitely lives up to its name " LOVE LIFE CAFE"/ LOVE LIFE COFFEE.

I'm always on the lookout for solid plant-based meals, so I was thrilled to see that their menu features plenty of vegan options for wraps and handhelds. I ordered the chickpea wrap, and it absolutely delivered--it was heavily loaded, super filling, and packed with great flavors. Their coffee is also very good and paired perfectly with the food. There are only two main reasons this isn't quite a 5-star rating for me. First, the prices do lean a bit on the higher end for a cafe. Second, while their savory vegan options are great, they unfortunately don't have any vegan desserts to finish off the meal. One of the standout features of this cafe, though, is its commitment to the local community. The walls are covered with incredible pieces by local artists, which gives the space such a wonderful, creative energy. They even host an artist meetup every Saturday at 1:00 PM for anyone interested in connecting. Overall, Love Life Cafe is a solid 4-star experience. It has great food, a wonderful vibe, and is definitely worth checking out!

We were headed to Amber Spice for a late lunch, and fortunately, we made it in before the 2:45pm cutoff (I called ahead to check). Since it was almost lunch closing, they did request that we place our orders soon after being seated. We already knew what we wanted to order, so we didn't feel rushed otherwise. We started with the veggie samosas ($6, two pieces), which were served with the traditional tamarind sauce and spicy cilantro chutney. The samosas were packed with the potato and pea filling and had a lightly crisp exterior. They were as good as any. For my entree, I ordered the butter chicken ($20), which is served with a side of basmati rice. When ordering, the waiter didn't ask about spice level. I did find their butter chicken to have some heat to it, but it wasn't anything crazy - I'd say a 3/10 for spiciness - I felt the warmth. The chicken was super tender and moist. I would be happy getting this again. I also ordered the garlic naan ($5), because you have to have something to sop up the curry goodness. The naan was hot and fresh; you could also taste the garlic. One basket came with four pieces (one whole naan), which is perfect for sharing. I finished the meal with the gulab jamun ($6) for dessert which came with three pieces of the fried dough balls served in a sweet syrup. My friend ordered the mango kulfi and loved it! She described it as a mango lassi, but frozen, which made it that much more light and refreshing. Amber Spice is a casual dining spot and it has the service to match. We were brought a carafe of water for the table to start, so it was self-serve the rest of the way. Food was brought out quickly and plates were cleared at the end, but we weren't checked on during the meal. Perhaps since we arrived near lunch closing, service was winding down, but we got what we needed. I enjoyed the food here and would come again. Everything that we had was not only super tasty, but also reasonably priced. There's also plenty of parking in the shopping center.

Service: waitress was kind, but service was extremely slow. 2 beers took about 15 minutes to make it to our table; I ordered a mixed drink and was given the incorrect mixed drink, which I went to the bar and traded out for a beer instead because our server didn't come back to our table to check on us for a significant length of time. We ordered several menu items they were out of and we weren't told that they were out until about an hour and a half into waiting for our food. We ended up with three side salads, 1 app, and 1 meal for a group of people. We asked our server for the check, which she failed to bring after 15 minutes. Hungry and desperate to leave, a member of our group went up to the bar, had the bar tender remove the food we were never given, and paid. Overall: Horrible experience w/ sub-par food and even worse service. Spend your money elsewhere.

Usually with brunch we would do the bottomless mimosas and all but because I was driving I decided not to participate in that. And usually I would get chicken and waffles but I was in the mood for a burger. So I thought because their name is "Mad Cow" the burger would be the bomb...but nope it was not good at all. So I prefer a beef burger cooked medium with blue cheese, mayo, lettuce, tomato, and onions. When I burger got tot the table it was dry as a board. No blue cheese that I paid extra for and the burger was not cooked correctly it was cooked well done. Smdh. So the waiter brought me my blue cheese apologized about it and also gave me a mayo bottle. Even with the burger still was not good and the patty was so thick with no flavor not even salt and pepper was in it!! I tried their punch drink which was really good but for $15 a pop in a regular water glass was ridiculous. Make sure you don't get too tipsy as they already have like a 20% gratuity added on each of our checks no matter how small or big your group is which again is ridiculous! Will I come back...maybe only because I would like to try some Jamaican food they offer. But for brunch...it's a no for me!
