After having parked nearby, we explored the spot. One side was where you would order food and drinks (no seating on this side). The other side had tables and chairs, including a full bar, and a large outdoor area - it was nice being outdoors when the sun was not hot (although I did see umbrellas and many covered areas out there in the back). Our event had a DJ as well. The overall layout of the place was nice, where I would revisit the business and maybe have my own party. This review is more for the carryout side. At the time, we were not trying to get a full meal, just something to snack on. I saw they had several patties available and when asked what they had, there were many choices. I don't remember all the choices they mentioned, but I do remember these: Beef, Chicken, Shrimp, Goat and Mutton. I got a Chicken Patty and a Mutton Patty - never tried either before my visit here. For drink, I got a Ting and Mango Passion juice (sold in a bottle). The Mango Passion juice cost a lot more than each of the other items I got. When we got our order, the patties were in a different bag, but the employee who was on the bar side couldn't tell us which was which. It was a bit of confusion, and we had to determine which was which for ourselves (I was not a fan of that). Both patties ended up being good. I had the Chicken and another in my group had the Mutton. I love Ting - it is one of my favorites. It's a drink flavored with both grapefruit juice and cane sugar. I got a chance to taste a little of the Mango Passion juice and could taste both flavors in the drink. Not sure I would pay that cost again though. I was still glad I was able to check this spot out.

And when it comes to CaribeExpress I'll admit they shocked me at how their curry goat platter separated them from the rest of the other outstanding Caribbean Cuisine Establishments. From my first taste of the curry goat, I was highly impressed with the texture and flavor of the rice & goat. The sauce blended everything together perfectly and left me savoring every single forkful. Their seasoning game is second to none and the way they cook their curry down tells me that the chef takes pride in every meal he or she prepares. The cabbage was delicious on its own and with the curry potatoes mixed in ( which always gives the curry dishes an extra umph to me ) the meal reached the perfection plateau !!! And to top things off, they have an amazing staff that greets each patron with great energy that says, "I'm eager to make your dining experience at CaribeExpress an awesome one !" Don't believe me... see for yourself ! And they have their own ample dining area with outside availability and chill music to vibe to!!

The options were all displayed and placing my order was pretty easy... I did find it interesting that for the lunch special all of the proteins were listed and I couldn't pick one. So I just made a special note in the comments about the protein i wanted. I didn't think they would give me all of them... No one does that, haha. When I showed up about 3 minutes after my order was supposed to be ready, they had actually just received it on their end. There was some bug going on with the system. I was supposed to be able to pick my protein and whether I wanted a spicy sauce. I was able to make modifications on the spot and thankfully it didn't take long to get what I wanted.... They were out of the initial patty I wanted too. The lady said she was going to contact and see what happened... Hopefully that got addressed. Anyway, I finally got the food, and it wasn't a lot, though I know lunch portions do tend to be smaller. I loved the chicken,. cabbage, and one piece of plantain, but not so much the rice (it was on the drier side). When I'm in the area I'd return though!

When I tell you that oxtail was falling off the bone? 10/10. The brown stew chicken was flavorful, tender, and cooked just right. The cabbage was seasoned perfectly, not soggy, not bland. Everything on that plate hit. No complaints about the food whatsoever. The space itself is small, clean, and minimally decorated. Nothing fancy, but very well-kept, and I appreciate that. Service was good. The owner personally took care of me and accommodated my request to swap out the rice for extra cabbage with no issue. I always appreciate when owners are hands-on and attentive. Now for the hiccup: the credit card machine wasn't working, so I had to pay via Cash App. Not ideal, but okay. What almost took me out was the attempt to add a service charge. I definitely spoke up because that extra $1? Yeah... it was about the principle. Sheesh. Overall, the positives outweighed the minor inconvenience. The food alone would have me coming back. And for me, that says a lot.

Today, I gave them another shot because Uber Eats was offering a buy one, get one free deal on the jerk chicken meal. I chose rice & peas with plantain for my sides. The chicken was cooked on the grill--which I love--because it really brings out the flavor in jerk chicken. I also requested my jerk sauce on the side since I prefer a dry rub style over a saucy one. The only drawback was the small bone pieces in the chicken and rice. That's something to be cautious about, especially if a child is eating the meal. The plantains were also inconsistent--some pieces were hard, while others were mushy. On the bright side, the coco bread was perfect and the Jamaican rum cake was phenomenal. Whoever baked that cake clearly took their time soaking it in rum. It reminded me of the way my grandmother used to make it--absolutely delicious. I would definitely order the rum cake again.

Usually with brunch we would do the bottomless mimosas and all but because I was driving I decided not to participate in that. And usually I would get chicken and waffles but I was in the mood for a burger. So I thought because their name is "Mad Cow" the burger would be the bomb...but nope it was not good at all. So I prefer a beef burger cooked medium with blue cheese, mayo, lettuce, tomato, and onions. When I burger got tot the table it was dry as a board. No blue cheese that I paid extra for and the burger was not cooked correctly it was cooked well done. Smdh. So the waiter brought me my blue cheese apologized about it and also gave me a mayo bottle. Even with the burger still was not good and the patty was so thick with no flavor not even salt and pepper was in it!! I tried their punch drink which was really good but for $15 a pop in a regular water glass was ridiculous. Make sure you don't get too tipsy as they already have like a 20% gratuity added on each of our checks no matter how small or big your group is which again is ridiculous! Will I come back...maybe only because I would like to try some Jamaican food they offer. But for brunch...it's a no for me!

At heart, I'm a man that truly enjoy most Caribbean dishes ( oxtails, goat, curry/jerk chicken,…read moreroti, etc ) So, I set out on a quest to give a new Caribbean cuisine restaurant a shot at winning me over. That's when I bumped into Caribbean Dish... The name got me, yes it's basic, but the title was exactly what I was looking for. The restaurant is in a small unassuming parking lot... if you don't know it's there, you probably will miss it ( so glad I didn't !! ) The minute I walked in, I felt authentic family vibes ( something I look for when choosing my Caribbean locations ) The service was very friendly, and they cleared everything up when I wasn't sure if my particular craving could be fulfilled ( the combo I desired wasn't on their daily menu ) My sights were set on the oxtail and curry goat combo ( of course with rice & peas and veggies ! ) And when I say the goat was tender, and seasoned to perfection... while the oxtails had that juicy meatiness that will for sure keep me coming back. The rice & peas were cooked just right ( texture was on point ) and the veggies still had that freshness that brought everything else together. I love my Caribbean dishes saucy and not dry ( they get two thumbs up in that department ! ) Family vibes, cheerful greeting, and amazing food.... Caribbean Dish you just locked yourself in a loyal customer !!!!! Give them a shot and I can almost guarantee you won't be disappointed !!!

This place did not disappoint. First, make a reservation. I cannot stress this enough. It gets packed. Second, come hungry and with a group if you want more options to try. This is definitely a place where sharing makes sense. The oxtail was extremely tender and flavorful, with that rich, slow-cooked depth you want from oxtail without it feeling heavy. The jerk wings are a must-have. Perfectly seasoned with that unmistakable jerk flavor and just the right amount of spiciness. The dipping sauce helps temper the heat without completely taking away the flavor. The fried snapper with rice was exceptional. The whole fish was beautifully crispy on the outside while remaining tender inside, and the coconut-based sauce/chutney brought a bright, tangy contrast to the fried fish. The roti comes with options for proteins. We picked the goat and beef, along with chickpeas and pumpkin. The tender, savory meat paired really well with the creamy, curried chickpeas and slightly sweet pumpkin. It also came with three dipping sauces and roti, giving us plenty of different flavor combinations to try! As for sides, absolutely get the plantains and macaroni pie. The plantains were cooked perfectly and beautifully caramelized, with a ginger glaze that was not overwhelmingly gingery. Even Michelin specifically calls out St. James' sweet plantains finished with candied ginger. The macaroni pie is basically macaroni and cheese's Caribbean cousin ! It is creamy, cheesy, baked/grilled until you get those delicious browned edges, with seasoning that gives it a distinctly Caribbean character. St. James was added to the MICHELIN Guide Washington, D.C. selection, so apparently our hopes and dreams were not misplaced. It isn't Michelin-starred or a Bib Gourmand; it's a Michelin Guide Selected restaurant. Reasonable prices for sure! Absolutely amazing meal! 10/10! 5/5! Whatever the metrics are!!!
