There are so many good items on the menu it really makes it hard to choose. We ordered way too much for a party of two and definitely had left overs. Every single item was delicious and the portions were ok based on price. Oxtail Pho: Good food lord almighty this was amazing. Oxtail in pho is brilliant. The oxtail was tender and tasty. Of course the pho broth and noodles just elevated the entree. This is a dine in menu item so plan to dine in their cute artsy restaurant if you want this. It's worth it. Bo-Khirria Eggrolls: Think birria tacos as an egg roll. Yes, these eggs rolls came with a bowl of delicious sopas to dip in. These could easily be eaten as your main dish. I'd certainly get full from it if I ate it myself. Of course I'd drink the juice to seal the deal. Oxtail Cheesesteak Banh Mi: More oxtail deliciousness as a cheesesteak Banh Mi wrap is great. Everything I got was almost $50; definitely more pricey than your typical pho spot but it's modern so I guess I get the hype... Friendly service and a drive-thru! I have been following Phowheels for the past few years, first trying them in their food truck in Friendship Heights. I was excited to see they opened a Brick + Mortar store in Burtonsville. The signage is great, very creative with nods to the local area. When I walked inside, I was greeted right away and had friendly service at the cash register. I ordered the honey garlic wings, and the pork belly on bahn mi. The wings were very crispy and came with a coconut ranch which was delicious. I would've liked a little bit more flavor/spice for my wings, but they were good. The pork belly bahn mi was good, fresh roll, and they accommodated me by putting the garlic aïoli on the side. They have tables and chairs outside by the drive-thru, which was nice to sit outside. She took the time to answer all of our questions about the menu and made recommendations. I ordered the fried veggie eggrolls and the oxtail cheesesteak. I loved the egg roll (crispy and standard flavor), but was not a huge fan of the cheesesteak. The cheese was mild and super creamy, which I am not a big fan of on sandwiches. That was totally my mistake while ordering; I should have considered the type of cheese used. I think I would have enjoyed the banh mirria way more, and intend to try it next time. I really wanted to try the pho but being short on time, I had to get a rice bowl because I think pho needs to be eaten at a table when it's right out of the kitchen. I ordered the chicken thigh rice bowl and it was prepared quite quickly. It came in a square container which was very hard to eat because the flaps kept getting in my way. My first bite was very hard rice. I thought to myself, surely this is not what this dish is supposed to be! I used to rave about the fusion and classic banh mi from Phowheels but I am unsure what happened or why they must have changed the bread they use? The banh mi tastes totally different from the previous times I've eaten here... the bread does not hold well and becomes soggy and it is not as crispy, light, and airy as before. When I opened the boxes, I already noticed the banh mi was much smaller and imagine my further disappointment when I bit into one that was beyond soggy. This place is a really cool and unique fusion concept. Taking the best aspects of Latino cuisine and mixing it with Vietnamese and South Asian. The chicken roti tacos were mind blowing, totally new experience having a soy marinated chicken thigh with a Thai panang curry sauce in a multi layer buttery roti. I used to order from Phowheels at my office in DC so I was amped when I found out they were coming to Burtonsville Crossing. The Pho spectacular, (the broth is rich and there are a ton of delicious options and don't get me started on the Ox Tail broth!). They have so many different offerings you can get something different and delicious every visit. My personal favorites are the rice bowls. Each is delicious and filling and you get more than enough in every order. The shaky Beef is unmatched. Their Bo-Khirria egg rolls and broth are amazing and cheesy. The tacos are always a delicious go-to and the Banh Mi and Cheesesteaks are also fantastic. The wings are amazing too! First few weeks were insane, the line was out the door when I tried to come, so I ended up coming a month later after their opening. Luckily it was a late Sunday evening with no wait. Wow there was a line at opening 12pm on a Friday! The wait wasn't too long (maybe like 10 min to order then 20 min wait for the food?) They were able to pump the food out at a decent pace. The brisket banhmi cheesesteak was good. The cheese was nice and melty into the meat. We realized too late as we were commenting how rich the sandwich was and needed the acid to cut the richness and we already ate most of the sandwich. The oxtail pho was also yummy. They definitely spice their broth more, which I enjoyed. But since they serve everything in take out containers it was kind of a small soup bowl (compared to usual pho places). Got 3 large pieces of oxtail that were meaty and fall off the bone tender. I think the broth was good (wish there was more) and I don't think they used much msg or salt cuz I wasn't overly thirsty after eating this. Believe it or not, this was my first time stepping foot into the town of Burtonsville. The line had at least 40 people, and unfortunately I was on the clock, so I couldn't stay! I was able to go back yesterday, and the line was still out the door -- 10 people though, and it moved fast enough. Their menu is more expansive than I remember, having roti tacos, and their version of birria and such. Did I forget all this existed, or was I just not that adventurous in the old days?? I was lucky to get what I believe was one of the last available oxtail cheesesteak banh mis -- and they were only open for two hours when I got there! I had my insulator bag, and quickly put it in there when the order was ready. I appreciated the heads up about the separate container of pho and being mindful of not letting it spill. Once I got home 20 minutes later and opened it, WHEW. There was so much oxtail my jaw dropped. I don't know how to describe my experience other than every bite was absolutely delicious. The bread was perfect, it was nice and cheesy, and there was a sweetness in there that just amplified the experience. The pho made it all the better too, though I did find it a bit salty, but hardly a setback! I cannot wait to return and explore more of their menu. I might let the hype die down a bit so I can be in and out though, haha. Oxtail + Vietnamese = YES. read more
