I found this place by luck. The place I was looking for closed before I got there so I started searching for Caribbean food. I am pleased that I found this place. The service was within the normal range for homemade food; and the staff was pleasant. I felt comfortable; although the area is a bit isolated at night. For a takeout place, this place is a 5. Their menu features Carribean and American dishes. I ordered a curry chicken dinner and a chicken patty. The food was delicious. I had plenty of leftovers. I had some business in Upper Marlboro and had a moment to drop by here before heading home. It's been on my radar ever since it opened two years ago, and I've always wondered how it is. As soon as you park, you hear the reggae blasting. It's a rather small building, but it's colored up and is quite inviting. Some bits could use touch ups though, but it really adds to the charm! I went inside and there were just a few people in there. There's only one or two tables, so it's definitely a to-go type spot. Some patties are on display, always nice to see. I started browsing through the menu -- I was delighted to see a lunch special on jerk chicken & curry chicken, and so many combo entrees at what I'd say are reasonable prices. Combos were like curry & brown stew, jerk & curry, etc. I just got the lunch special (curry chicken) for myself, and the ackee, saltfish, and callaloo combo platter for my parents. It took about 15 minutes, and they gave me the heads up on it taking a while which I appreciated. When it was ready, I made my way home. I loved everything about it! The rice & peas surprised me... the rice appeared to have a basmati base. Do other spots do that? Am I just unaware? It was delicious (and had that slight coconut flavor I love), but I have never seen it before. Loved the cabbage, plantain (though there was very little), and the chicken itself. I was super disappointed in my Rasta pasta. It tasted like someone over cooked the pasta and then threw thousand island dressing on it. I let the staff know when I came in and told them they might wanna try it.. He remade it within maybe 10 minutes or less and it looked the exact same when he gave it back to us except this time they put extra Parmesan cheese. It lacked salt, barely had Rasta flavor in it which is crazy for a Rasta pasta. All for it to be $25 too. Wild. Needless to say I'm never coming back. It was the weirdest tasting sauce I've ever had. I called to place an order and the guy was a little snippy over the phone. That's when I knew the food was gonna be good. Then when I drove up there there was music playing from a large speaker in front of the store and some older men hanging out in lawn chairs by the parking lot. I thought "this food is about to hit!" And when I saw the cook wipe his hands with the gloves on instead of just putting new gloves on, I thought about cancelling my order but I also knew he's probably the best cook in his family. Decided on a light snack yesterday and wasn't disappointed. The spicy beef patty was flaky, fresh and correctly heated...just right. This is my third time going. The first time I went about 15mins before closing and ordered the jerk chicken. The guy in the back is making my food, and now he comes towards the front and stops and after about 30 seconds of him staring in space, I asked what he was doing. He said well we're about to close and I can't give you cold food. He was warming the food in the microwave!!! What?! Came here just to see what the restaurant was all about since it just open. I got the brown stew chicken with rice and peas with cabbage. It was good but, could've use a little more sauce. The lady at the register was very nice she asked was I knowledgeable about Jamaican food. I let her know that I love Jamaican food and also visited the country quite often. Service 10/10 there were 4 people with orders and one person behind the counter. There was no long wait after I made my order. Ambiance 10/10 there are several benches with tables outside. Today was my second time ordering from here. I previously ordered jerk chicken and it was delicious, which is the reason for 2 stars. But today I went out in the rain because I really wanted some oxtails. Went in and bought 2 oxtail dinners, they didnt have any jerk chicken ready, which was a bit annoying but not a problem. After I got my food and got home, I opened the boxes to basically see a bone dinner. Literally a platter of oxtail bones and the ones that did have meat were tiny and fatty. The piece of meat I could salvage were actually really good and tender, so Id assume most of the meat fell off the bone... but if thats the case, they need to be scooping up some of the meat that fell off out of the pot too.
