I love love love their coco bread, oxtail, and fish! They have fast customer service and are very attentive. The prices are reasonable and I think it's one of the best Jamaican restaurants!

worst curry shrimp I have ever had. The shrimp were tough and dry like the cook a whole bunch in the morning and use them all day. curry chicken was just as bad. along with the cold bread. $33.97 bag of trash.

Can we all say "yo-man" on the count of 3. While visiting the Island Bwoy Cuisine the Chef asked if I wanted to grab some lunch @ a tiny Jamaican restaurant not far from his place. Located in a strip mall this unassuming place serves one of the best for this style cuisine. Since Chef Mark is a frequent customer & from the island, they put together a variety of items for us. Pictured at the top was the Goat stew which was over the top, along with the jerk chicken, oxtails, the staple rice and cabbage and tiny bite size portions of plantains. Everything was fabulous and having never eaten goat stew - that in itself was amazing. One knows when an ethnic restaurant knows how to cook as the meat off the oxtails and goat just fell off the bone with savory flavors coupled with the sauces. 5 solid stars for this small business and hope work sends me back to this area!

Curry and jerk chicken combo plate -- 5/5 noms! Delicious.

This place is not far from my job, so I decided to stop by after work to pick up some dinner. It was recommended, so I decided to check out the menu online and call in my order. As someone who usually can never decide to go with jerk or curry, I was delighted to see that they offer a combination plate where you can get both options. I opted for rice and peas and cabbage as my sides. I also ordered coco bread and a wanted a chicken patty, but they were out. I decided to get a spinach patty instead. The patty was just okay, but the rest of the meal was DELICIOUS! The curry and jerk chicken was some of the most flavorful I have ever tasted. The rice and cabbage were also tasty. The portions were also good. I eat a lot and I was definitely full. This will be a regular stop for me after work.

Best Caribbean food in Marlow Heights! I always get curry chicken and I'm never disappointed. The entrees come standard with rice & cabbage. The food is good and the staff is really nice. This is a small carry-out restaurant but there are a few tables available for dining in.

    Coco bread! Perfection!

I just moved back to the area after being in the Southwest, where I could get delicious cuisine from all over the world...except Caribbean food! Tropicana Eatery was literally my first stop once I got off the plane. I had oxtail with rice and peas and cabbage. It was pretty good, but didn't blow me away. I decided I hadn't had my dose of Caribbean food so I went back the next day for curried shrimp and a jerk chicken patty with coco bread. Again, the curried shrimped as good but not supreme. The jerk chicken patty however, was immaculate! The coco bread was warm, soft, and delicious. The jerk chicken patty had incredible flavor without being too hot. I wish I would have ordered two! All in all, I would definitely go back for the patties and to try other menu items!

Honestly chain jamaican food locations are usually bush so i was doubting trying them out, but let me just say this was absolutely delicious, it was hot and tasted fresh and so full of flavor, and extraaa gravy. I ordered a combination platter of curry goat and brown stew chicken !

This is a delicious hidden gem that is well worth seeking out! We came for ice cream a few businesses over but saw this and decided to try it first. We were offered samples to help us decide and the portions are great. The best thing about it, though, was the service by the woman at the register. She was welcoming and knowledgeable, and the entire time we were there she showed patience and efficiency that is very lacking in most places today. We may have found our regular spot, finally!

The menu offers breakfast, apps, entrees, soup, seafood, and pasta, but you really need to focus on their super cheap weekday lunch specials, where you can choose from Jerk Chicken, Curry Chicken, or Stew Chicken for $8! I went for the Jerk Chicken, in which I had rice and beans, cabbage, and cocoa bread - there was a generous amount of chicken, but the pieces were just chopped haphazardly, so you'll be biting down in some shattered bones. The chicken itself was juicy with some good spice on its exterior, but the flavors could have permeated more throughout. The rice and beans didn't have much flavor, and the cabbage was just okay. The cocoa bread was super greasy and fluffy, but i felt that this addition wasn't really necessary. Food could have been more piping hot, considering we consumed it pretty much right away. I wish that some hot sauce came with, just to spruce it up a bit. Note that the wait could take a bit, as they do have long lines during the lunch rush! +$8 weekday lunch specials

It's a small, humble place--what some might call a hole-in-the-wall--but it's packed with heart, hospitality, and seriously satisfying portions. On this visit, I went with my usual favorite: Egusi with goat and jollof rice. The flavors were rich, deep, and comforting--the kind of meal that feels like a warm hug from home. The egusi was perfectly seasoned, the goat tender and well-spiced, and the jollof rice full of that signature smoky goodness that's hard to find just anywhere. But now I seem to find it conveniently on 19th whenever I'm walking over there! Right now they're there on Mondays and Thursdays -- I recall searching for them on other days, but I didn't see them at the locations their website said they would be. But since it's been consistently coming to 19th Street, I have had the opportunity to have it twice, and I had the JerkBowl each time. The chicken comes off the bone so easily, and it is indeed JERKED! It's got a great taste, and the yellow rice it comes with compliments it very well. I will be trying their mac and cheese and greens in the near future, hopefully. I hope that they continue to get great business because this is food that should not be ignored! They seem to also actively become familiar with their regulars and they're super polite.

Located at 6120 Marlboro Pike., District Heights M.D. nestled between a tattoo parlor, and a couple other stores you'll find @luvplatesgrill with their beautifully designed black & orange signage!! This spot is momentarily take out only, they accept cash, and credit/debit, and they also have catering available. Their menu is concise, simple, and effective. They have sizable bowls like their DC Gumbo (with turkey sausage, and hormone free chicken $15), and their Homestyle Jerk Chicken (24 hour marinated wings smothered over red beans & rice $15). They also have some signature sandwiches like their "Jimmy Blue"(Maryland lump crab cake $20), and their "Fall off the Bone"(24 hour LuvRub-Ribs-w/BBQ sweet sauce $10). The sides include their World Famous Mac n Cheese (pictured-$8 reg. size), "Mamas Greens"(pictured-$8 reg. size), and their flavorful Red beans & Rice ($4 reg. size). On this trip I copped their Mac n Cheese, a Homestyle Jerk chicken sandwich (pictured-$6 on potato bread), and their 3 for $20 deal where I chose the Pan-seared Salmon ($3 extra), Mamas greens, and the 24 hr. Jerk chicken with the Red beans, and rice. So I started by dipping into the greens...FRESH, and seasoned to perfection!! I then took a bite out of the jerk chicken sandwich...I didn't want to stop!! It was glistening with flavor, a hint of bbq mixed with the jerk made for a tasty sandwich. Then I put a fork to the jerk wings, and watched the meat fall off the bone right into the red beans and rice. Spiced right, savory...it hit the spot. So I'm not a huge Salmon fan, but their pan seared fish with peppers, jerk sauce with a hint of bbq...made me a bigger fan!! Deliciousness!! Lastly I tackled that Mac n Cheese...I was leery via the price, and the "World Famous" title. When you go...GET IT...it's worth it. Customer service was phenomenal, they patiently explained their meals, and spotlighted the freshness of their food (which you can definitely taste). Parking is tricky, it's a very small lot they share. GO!! TRUST!! That's it.
