I usually never do this but................ One of my favorite places to eat was Mid-Atlantic Seafood & Soul Food in Rivertown. I haven't been in a while but decided to stop by and get something for lunch/dinner. Let me tell you......................This was the nastiest food I have ever eaten from there. I got the fried whiting dinner with collards and mac and cheese. The smell of the fish was so strong I had to open the window in the car. It was not seasoned at all. The mac n cheese was watery and after two bites I had to spit it out. I've never smelled collard greens this bad. Big giant pieces with the stalk, bitter taste. Half the staff didn't wear gloves. A lady ordered baked chicken, and they gave her fried chicken. She took it back to the counter and told them about the mistake. The girl apologized and took her platter, took the chicken off her plate and put the chicken back with the other chicken. I mentioned to the guy behind the counter that the server needed gloves. He said something to her in Spanish, but she never put on gloves. I made sure she didn't wait on me. It appears that this location has changed management and it shows. I will NOT be visiting that location again. All that food I purchased today will go down the garbage disposal. It was NOT edible. Stopped by this place for a quick lunch and got the Fried Whiting with Mashed Potatoes and Mac and Cheese. The Fish was nice and crisp with a thin breading. Although it needed some seasoning, dipping it with some mumbo sauce made it complete. Mash potatoes were meh, but the mac and cheese was amazing. The sweet tea was also very good here. Nice little spot for some soul food. read more

The cooked portion of the food is fantastic, no complaints there. The service is nice (they give you great portions. The only issue I have is the salmon salad. Everything was fresh except the imitation crab meat. It smelled rancid and let me tell you, there was A LOT of it to pull out. This salad is almost $20 and you get bad imitation crab meat? This is why I give it a three star rating. Be wary. read more

I went to Mid Atlantic restaurant in Oxon Hill in Rivertown on Saturday evening. I was trying to purchase a piece of cheesecake. The price for the cake on the menu was 4.99 and when they rung up the piece of cake the price was 5.49. I brought this to the young lady attention who was ringing my order up and she stated the price is 5.49. I attempted to explain to her that she had to sell me the piece of cake for the price for which it was advertised on the displayed menu and she refused to do so . she then proceeded to get another gentleman. I explained the same situation and he said the same thing that the price is 5.49 and that they were not going to sell it to me for the price that it was advertised. He stated that the reason why the price was wrong on the menu because they didn't have time to change it yet. I educated them and told them that that was false advertisement and what they were doing was against the law. He just looked at me and walked away, so please be aware of what you're purchasing at Mid Atlantic Seafood in Rivertown and check your receipt. read more

I ordered my food as usual, and when they called my number to get my food. It was then that I saw a roach on the counter and ran under the bread container. I asked her to lift the container so that I could make sure that I saw what I saw, and when she did, she claimed she didn't see anything. That is it for me!!! If it's out of sight and out of mind, then I am good with that, but to actually see a roach. If there is one, there are others. Never again!!!! read more

It isn't that good anymore like it used to be no flavor at all. I will never go there again

I haven't been here before or at least not in years. I wanted a simple vegetarian lunch and was pleased to see that there were several options on the bar. I saw that there were containers near the cash register so I asked the cashier if I could get the smallest filled up for the price listed. He told me that they could be filled with vegetables but no meats. I payed. We moved down the bar and he asked me what I wanted in my container. I began by telling him potatoes. He proceeded to fill the whole container with potatoes. I said, less potatoes because I want some other things in the small container also. He then told me that I could only get one item in the container and that I could get a 4 item meal for a different price. I had already swiped my credit card and I only wanted a small amount of food. I told him that doesn't make sense because the container will hold the same amount of food if there is more than one kind or not. I told him that he should have told me to begin with and that I was not happy. He did not apologize nor say anything. read more

I went in there were at least three people behind the counter, not waiting on anyone ..no one said may I help you or anything once someone did finally come around and say may I help you the whole time no one around here smiles mine you I am smiling the whole time and trying to give off good energy cause sometimes you can change somebody's mood. The lady gave me my change and walked away no thank you. No smile nothing just walked away the energy was way off. I understand now why there was only one customer in there and she look like she was in there just to stay warm. No food at the table or anything. The New Carrollton location stays busy. read more

My Boo rants and raves about this Spot for 3-course Meals. So he asked me to place a pick-up Dinner Order. After carefully reviewing the Extensive Menu, I decided I'd the SMOTHERED PORK CHOPS with Gravy, Mashed Potatoes and Steam Mixed Vegetables. I was ththoroughly Dissapointed with the entire Meal. The Steamed Mixed Vegetables were big leaves of boiled, bland Cabbage with a few small pieces of Broccoli. The Mashed Potatoes tasted like they were made from the Instant Boxed kind. The 2 Large pieces of Smothered Pork Chops were very Fatty with very small portions of lean meat. The portions were plentiful and the price was reasonable. However, the quality of the Food left a lot to be desired. Maybe their other Menu items are good? read more

This restaurant charges for the bags to place your hot food. I understand plastic bags are discontinued; however, this restaurant wants to charge extra for bags...no other restaurant is doing this. In addition, I had an issue with another price discrepancy of using a container to place a food item in because of the run-off from this food item. I spoke with the manager and he projected as if there was a language barrier and dismissive. NO!!!!!!!! read more

The food was ok, I would even venture to say good. But,the cashier who rung me up,was rude/unfriendly.As I was inquiring about the deserts, she was visibly annoyed by me,asking questions. When I related this to the supervisor, she was somewhat dismissive, and replied,"I'll take note of it ". Bad service and then when I got to my destination the order was not right. Maybe if she wasn't so mean she could focus on better customer service. I won't be getting staff food or my food from here anymore. read more

I really don't know what the hype was about this place. First off all the staff are extremely rude and don't like to answer any questions. The food is mediocre and no flies for me. The food has a really funky nasty taste after eating there food! The place needs to be updated and it looks like your sitting at a bus stop waiting on your food! I got the chitterlings because people say no what there doing. I should not be sitting there chewing gum as the chitterlings were extra chewy! No thanks I will be back to this location at all. read more

The food is not good. Worst Mac & Cheese ever. Nothing was flavored. I don't recommend. The one in Laurel is way way better. Never again.

Food is great...no complaints there. But make sure you check your order...and how you ordered it. The seafood plates and combinations are all fried. Choices of baked, grilled and broiled apply ONLY to Seafood Dishes...NOT TO THE PLATES AND COMBINATIONS! Or so we were told by the manager when our order for grilled fish came to us fried, despite the fact that our order was taken specifically asking for "grilled". He apologized, but said repeatedly that those choices apply only to other side of the menu where Seafood Dishes are displayed. (Yeah, he and the cashier who took our order could have handled things better, but what're you gonna do...?) I think it is very reasonable to think otherwise, so I'm posting this review with the photos of the menu (notice the choices written in RED). And yes, we will continue to eat here knowing how to be sure to get our options grilled and not fried in the future. read more

The Fried Fish was average but the side items were horrible. It is as if the turnip greens, black eyed peas, and Macaroni were fresh out of the can or powdered cheese Velveeta box. I'm speaking specifically of the Oxon hill location, I noticed that each location varies in taste. read more

My cousin and I ate from this restaurant and we both have food poisoning . We both had 2 different meals.

Food was really good and staff was very nice and informed us when certain items were out of stock. The wait time was a bit long but it also was a Sunday so that's understandable. The only problem that had was that some pieces of the baked chicken was dry but overall pretty good quality. The smoothie we got was exceptional as well. read more

Oh boy, where do i start? Okay i will start with the positives and say that there seems to be a lot of loyal regulars. The service was great as the employees a conversational and willing to help. There's an array of soul food choices to choose from which i can appreciate but the taste of the food is average at best. The seasoning isn't the best and there's nothing about it that would make me want to return unless i just wanted to stop and get some soul food on the way. The most disappointing item that i had was definitely the mac and cheese. For a soul food restaurant, i couldn't believe how terrible it was. I'm not even sure it was cheese because it was liquidy and tasteless. Chicken was decent and greens were....okay. But i got the sense they just opened a can of greens and heat it up on the stove. I feel bad because they seem to be nice people but i don't think i can go back there. I didn't get a chance to try their seafood but if you go for that, don't count on the sides to complement the meal. read more

This place is not good. Service is slow , and the food is dry with no seasoning , black eyed peas dry, collard greens need seasoning , chicken seemed old and been sitting and the stuffed tilapia was the only thing good, need to add more seasoning if you are going to try to serve ":soul food" not good waste of money read more

I'd give 1.5 stars really. Where do I start.... the that took my order was going way too fast for her own self so I didn't get part of what I wanted after it had been repeated like 3 times. I was looking to try the Mac n cheese in which is my guilty pleasure and was highly disappointed. It looks good from the outside but hats just it. It's really wet and there's no cheese in the inside, well at least that's not preference idk how anyone likes it it's a no for me. The mixed vegetables were OKAY. I had gotten the stuffed salmon the salmon was pretty good but it was in my opinion overstuffed with the crab meat which made it salty read more

My family and I love coming here when we want some good fried fish that's local. Nice size Croaker and Sea Trout (want Lake Trout but it's never available) as well as quantity of fish they give. Veggie selection is good as I usually go for the kale and candied yams (not from a can). Already can't wait to visit here again read more

When walking into the business it was not very welcoming and honestly the food looks mediocre! However, I decided to stay and order because I was in a rush. The food is already precooked, but I requested fresh chicken for my order. The service was horrible but the food BLEW MY MIND! Literally everything tasted great even the fruit punch . And the portion sizes was HUGE! I'd definitely recommend this place! Horrible service but great food. **I ordered fried chicken, Mac and cheese, greens, and candied yams** read more

Mid-Atlantic Seafood - Fried chicken, Mac and cheese, and yams - Seafood Near Me - Oxon Hill, Maryland

What can I say Mid Atlantic is a hit or miss. My family usually order the same thing from this place to be safe side because past experiences. This usually consists of some type of fish (of which Mid Atlantic has a large selection) made fresh to order and some vegetable variation. Normally the meals are usually satisfactory, not the best, but good on a day when you don't feel like cooking. They also offer large portions and good cornbread. So you can stretch the meal out over a couple of days. The place is usually packed and the service is okay. The place has only a few tables for eating but majority of customers seem to order take out. We decided to branch out from our normal selection and try some of their other selections. All of the food on display looked amazing especially the turkey wings. We decided to tried the ribs with mashed potatoes, the chicken wings with old bay seasoning and fries and the fried shrimp. To say the least these were underwhelming. The ribs, although large, were coated with a somewhat bland tasting sauce and were extremely fatty to the point that we questioned what type of animal it came from. The mashed potatoes were plain, stiff with no gravy or sauce. I think if we had paired the mashed potatoes with something that was already made in a sauce to add some sort of flavor we would have had a better experience. But on its own not so much. The wings tasted like they baked it without any marinade or seasoning and then sprinkled some old bay seasoning on top. In my opinion old bay is the type of seasoning (like curry) that has to be baked or cooked into the meat to make it tasty, not just sprinkled on top. The fried shrimp was battered and again not that flavorful. If we decide to patronize Mid Atlantic Seafood again, we will continue to stick with our usual order which they seem to be better at preparing. read more

Honestly possibly the worst soul food I've ever had, it's probably why they have a sketchy yelp name, boring soul food sign, and not a person to be seen on a Tuesday night. I am a very, very forgiving restaurant diner and if there is one or two things wrong I usually let the management know, I hate Yelp in fact. That said, this place is so wrong I don't know that any amount of feedback could fix the issues. 3 stars for their Fried chicken, fresh cooked and it was actually almost tasty. Sadly no seasoning. Now for the bad: The stuffed shrimp: overcooked and tasted frozen. Zero flavor The crabcake: mostly shell and filler, overcooked, probably frozen. Disgusting crabcake, would not serve to my worst enemy. The Mac and cheese: out of a can or store bought, no crust, soupy, terrible attempt. Yams: whatever the hell they are calling yams are watery, tasteless, and gross. French fries: crinklecut and probably frozen bought in bulk. Hush puppies: no flavor and overcooked. Corn bread: size of a condiment cup and disappointing. How do you screw up cornbread? I tried 3 entrees, 4 sides, and the cornbread and left feeling disgusted that people might mistake this for soul food. Go to DC or Virginia if you want real soul food, this is some fake knock off ridiculously bad soul food. I thought the benches were for waiting for your order, nah they're for praying that something is going to be edible. read more

Very good!!!! I love the food and I love the beverages and the sides like Mac and cheese and seeet potatoes

I decided to check this spot out off the humble one day because my sister and I couldn't decide on what to eat. Between the both of us we ordered Croaker, mac and cheese, fried oysters, fried shrimp, banana pudding and half and half drinks. The fish was pretty good...satisfied my quick craving for fish that day. Mac and cheese...not so good. Watery and tasted like they took it out the box and threw some cheese on it. The fried fish and fried shrimp was pretty tasty. Wasn't overcooked, nice sizes, didn't taste like it was fried in week old cooking oil. Tasted fresh. I was pretty satisfied. I'm giving this place 3 stars because they have a straight to the point selection of food but the quality of the food is inconsistent. Customer service is pretty good. I'll update stars after I go back a few more times. read more

Is this really the first review? Wow! This place has a great seafood/ soul food buffet. I ended up getting breakfast, because that's what I was in the mood for. Ordered scrambled eggs with provolone cheese, smothered potatoes, and wheat toast. I had just flew in from California, and my mother insisted we come here for some breakfast. The smothered potatoes were bomb! I didn't even need extra salt or pepper. The eggs were perfect, and toast is toast... I was a very happy camper. Regarding the seafood/soul food buffet, there was everything from ribs, to salmon, mashed potatoes, roasted potatoes, baked and bbq chicken, mac and cheese... for dessert I saw peach cobbler, and lots of pudding (chocolate and banana), also saw red velvet. I think it's worth checking out, if you want some good soul food w/o cooking all that food yourself. As I was waiting for my meal, I noticed there were a lot of people there picking up food from the buffet, so I assume the locals like it. Oh and PS, this place is huge! So if you have a big group, this place can def hold 'em. read more
