I haven't been here before or at least not in years. I wanted a simple vegetarian lunch and was pleased to see that there were several options on the bar. I saw that there were containers near the cash register so I asked the cashier if I could get the smallest filled up for the price listed. He told me that they could be filled with vegetables but no meats. I payed. We moved down the bar and he asked me what I wanted in my container. I began by telling him potatoes. He proceeded to fill the whole container with potatoes. I said, less potatoes because I want some other things in the small container also. He then told me that I could only get one item in the container and that I could get a 4 item meal for a different price. I had already swiped my credit card and I only wanted a small amount of food. I told him that doesn't make sense because the container will hold the same amount of food if there is more than one kind or not. After carefully reviewing the Extensive Menu, I decided I'd the SMOTHERED PORK CHOPS with Gravy, Mashed Potatoes and Steam Mixed Vegetables. I was ththoroughly Dissapointed with the entire Meal. Choices of baked, grilled and broiled apply ONLY to Seafood Dishes...NOT TO THE PLATES AND COMBINATIONS! Or so we were told by the manager when our order for grilled fish came to us fried, despite the fact that our order was taken specifically asking for "grilled". He apologized, but said repeatedly that those choices apply only to other side of the menu where Seafood Dishes are displayed. (Yeah, he and the cashier who took our order could have handled things better, but what're you gonna do...?) I think it is very reasonable to think otherwise, so I'm posting this review with the photos of the menu (notice the choices written in RED). Oh boy, where do i start? Okay i will start with the positives and say that there seems to be a lot of loyal regulars. The service was great as the employees a conversational and willing to help. There's an array of soul food choices to choose from which i can appreciate but the taste of the food is average at best. The seasoning isn't the best and there's nothing about it that would make me want to return unless i just wanted to stop and get some soul food on the way. The most disappointing item that i had was definitely the mac and cheese. For a soul food restaurant, i couldn't believe how terrible it was. I'm not even sure it was cheese because it was liquidy and tasteless. Chicken was decent and greens were....okay. But i got the sense they just opened a can of greens and heat it up on the stove. What can I say Mid Atlantic is a hit or miss. My family usually order the same thing from this place to be safe side because past experiences. This usually consists of some type of fish (of which Mid Atlantic has a large selection) made fresh to order and some vegetable variation. Normally the meals are usually satisfactory, not the best, but good on a day when you don't feel like cooking. They also offer large portions and good cornbread. So you can stretch the meal out over a couple of days. The place is usually packed and the service is okay. The place has only a few tables for eating but majority of customers seem to order take out. We decided to branch out from our normal selection and try some of their other selections. All of the food on display looked amazing especially the turkey wings. We decided to tried the ribs with mashed potatoes, the chicken wings with old bay seasoning and fries and the fried shrimp. To say the least these were underwhelming. The ribs, although large, were coated with a somewhat bland tasting sauce and were extremely fatty to the point that we questioned what type of animal it came from. The mashed potatoes were plain, stiff with no gravy or sauce. I think if we had paired the mashed potatoes with something that was already made in a sauce to add some sort of flavor we would have had a better experience. But on its own not so much. The wings tasted like they baked it without any marinade or seasoning and then sprinkled some old bay seasoning on top. In my opinion old bay is the type of seasoning (like curry) that has to be baked or cooked into the meat to make it tasty, not just sprinkled on top. The fried shrimp was battered and again not that flavorful. If we decide to patronize Mid Atlantic Seafood again, we will continue to stick with our usual order which they seem to be better at preparing. read more

Yams: whatever the hell they are calling yams are watery, tasteless, and gross. French fries: crinklecut and probably frozen bought in bulk. Hush puppies: no flavor and overcooked. I usually order a Signature Fish sandwich but they do not offer that option anymore at this location, despite there being a big sign behind the counter. I decided to check this spot out off the humble one day because my sister and I couldn't decide on what to eat. Between the both of us we ordered Croaker, mac and cheese, fried oysters, fried shrimp, banana pudding and half and half drinks. The fish was pretty good...satisfied my quick craving for fish that day. Mac and cheese...not so good. Watery and tasted like they took it out the box and threw some cheese on it. The fried fish and fried shrimp was pretty tasty. Wasn't overcooked, nice sizes, didn't taste like it was fried in week old cooking oil. Tasted fresh. I was pretty satisfied. I'm giving this place 3 stars because they have a straight to the point selection of food but the quality of the food is inconsistent. Customer service is pretty good. Is this really the first review? Wow! This place has a great seafood/ soul food buffet. I ended up getting breakfast, because that's what I was in the mood for. Ordered scrambled eggs with provolone cheese, smothered potatoes, and wheat toast. I had just flew in from California, and my mother insisted we come here for some breakfast. The smothered potatoes were bomb! I didn't even need extra salt or pepper. The eggs were perfect, and toast is toast... I was a very happy camper. Regarding the seafood/soul food buffet, there was everything from ribs, to salmon, mashed potatoes, roasted potatoes, baked and bbq chicken, mac and cheese... for dessert I saw peach cobbler, and lots of pudding (chocolate and banana), also saw red velvet. I think it's worth checking out, if you want some good soul food w/o cooking all that food yourself. As I was waiting for my meal, I noticed there were a lot of people there picking up food from the buffet, so I assume the locals like it. Oh and PS, this place is huge! This is a great place if you want some cozy comfort food and you have a BIG appetite. Great amount of food for the price you pay. I got the #31 seafood combo and it was yummy! The wait for my food wasn't long at all (I am very impatient lol) and everything is all boxed up so you can either eat in the restaurant or take it with you. They FILL that box up too. Mashed potatoes weren't anything to write home about, but the Mac and cheese reminded me of the southern kind some sweet old lady might bring to a church barbecue. When you want to eat fairly tasty vegetarian (not necessarily vegan), Mid-Atlantic has it. It's not spicy, but not the usual bland servings of steamed vegetables you get at most restaurants. Their vegetarian platter has healthy proportions of 4 sides for 8 bucks. And did I mention they have a delicious stir-fried tofu? (just because you don't like tofu, don't knock those who like and know what a good tofu dish taste like). Too bad their sister store on Branch Avenue is just as confortable. read more
