I've seen Pier 99 for years and after our plans fell through for Cinco De Mayo and needed to pivot somewhere close, lets grab a margarita at Pier 99. I was a first timer and she's been once before. Given the name, I figured it was a seafood restaurant. Although some seafood is on the menu, Pier 99 is primarily a Sushi/Asian food restaurant. I think a name change should be in order.. Lol! I literally had to switch up my taste buds to partake in some sushi! I ordered a seafood boil because I couldn't switch them up fast enough while she ordered sushi. I actually love the concept because so many people aren't sushi fans but most folks get down with seafood! The food was actually good and they pulled off both cuisines effortlessly! My margarita was as good as any chain Mexican restaurant, so that was additional plus given the Mexican holiday. The interior is on the smaller side, however, they offer booth seating and it has a decent size bar. If I lived in the Upper Marlboro/Bowie area like I used to, I'd come here often but since I don't, I'll occasionally stop in when I'm in the area! Good job Pier 99! read more

I know this place offers seafood and seafood boils but let's be honest if you're coming here, there's a good chance that you're here for the AYCE sushi! It's incredible! The pricing is great and it includes apps. The crab rangoons, mozz sticks, and gyoza are my favs! I enjoy the dinosaur roll and the crunchy roll as well! I would try other rolls bit a majority of them have avocado in them and I have an avocado allergy. Either way I find ways to get my moneys worth! Like ordering a lot of the sashimi especially the mackerel, red snapper, and white tuna! read more

Everytime we come here the food is always great! Presentation, taste, etc but the customer service is TRASHH! The guy that is usually our server is always hostile with us when taking our order or anything else. Visibly not happy and/or irritated when exchanging words with us. We usually brush it off. Again, the food is great! But during our last visit, he never checked in on us when we got our food. We always went to get him. He seemed to be very helpful with the other 2 table with white customers though. Even giving them a thumbs up when checking in on them. Very sad! Pier 99 offers AYCE sushi for $27.95 Monday - Thursday, and $29.95 Friday - Sunday. They also have an a la carte menu, as well as a couple of seafood boil options. In addition, there's a small bar and they do have happy hour drinks. Outside of HH, the drink prices are good, and would be considered HH prices at a restaurant in the city lol. I did the AYCE sushi, and left my meal feeling stuffed and satisfied. The gyoza is great, and they had so many sushi and sashimi options it was hard to choose. While it's not the freshest sushi I've had, it was good enough and was a great value for the price. Her order of calamari came first and me being hungry just took one piece... and here comes the waitress barking like a dog that there is no sharing with all you can eat order! Was excited to go here for all-you-can-eat sushi but unfortunately the quality has definitely gone down despite the price going up. The AYCE is $27.95 on weekdays and $29.95 on Fridays and weekends. I ordered my usual: sashimi and sushi. This time around, the sashimi was cut in halves and was not very fresh. The fish on the sushi was cut soooo thinly and was put on top a big piece of rice. Disappointing to see that kind of fish to rice ratio because you'll just get full from the rice. I also ordered a dragon roll which was supposed to have eel, but I swear it mostly had cucumber. I would compare the quality to mall sushi. Definitely a disappointing experience. Used to love this place, but not sure I'd make the drive out here. The crab rangoons were good though. read more

My buddy who lives in Crofton said this spot had an affordable AYCE sushi and I was totally down. The last time I had that was somewhere in California like a decade ago! So I met my buddy there after work, and it was relatively quiet. They have a happy hour on weekdays until 6:30 -- noted! It'll be tricky for me to make it though. So we got seated, and we had sheets of paper that we could mark things down for AYCE! It's $26 on weekdays and slightly more expensive on weekends (just a couple bucks). I had several rolls and multiple helpings of seaweed salad... so satisfying!! While all of the rolls were good, one of the standouts was the mango shrimp because it just had so much mango in it! I was quite pleased. My buddy and I finished our meals very satisfied and full. We didn't try any cocktails, but maybe next time during happy hour. I guess I need to try the cajun seafood too... didn't even look at the menu for that, I was on a mission! If you like sushi, I'd recommend trying them. read more

Came in on a Saturday night, and luckily it wasn't busy at all. Got seated almost immediately and received our menus, where the group and I decided to go for the AYCE sushi. The restaurant was a little dark, kinda emulating the indoors of a wooden ship, which was fine, but dark inside. Unfortunately, it felt like a lot of the fish was not fresh or just inconsistent. Ordered a tuna sashimi and one was delicious, while the other tasted and felt rubbery. On top of that the ratio of rice, topping and fish were way out of proportion. Ordered a specialty eel roll (don't remember the name, which, contained the whole filling being all cucumbers, barely any eel and rice. I found this place on TikTok because I was looking for sushi in Maryland. I've never had all you can eat sushi before and was a little worried. The place is on the corner of a shopping strip and is a good size inside. The all you can eat menu was $30 on a Saturday when we went. I was really impressed with the amount of specialty rolls on the all you can eat menu. They also had sashimi and appetizers that were included in the all you can eat menu. The service was good. Daughter was craving for Pier 99 and I was hoping that was the case for our Friday family dinner date as I was craving for some good sashimi myself. We trucked thru I-97 traffic from Elkridge to Gambrills but it was all worth it. Place was not busy (weird vs last couple of times we were here). We were seated quick. I went straight for the AYCE menu and I know exactly what I want. Tuna, mackerel, roe and salmon sashimi is a must. Very fresh nice portions, thick enough to satisfy but not too thick that is overwhelming. I added the dragon roll () and the Baltimore roll (meh), just add Old Bay on something and call it Baltimore (ok, not great!). Also added some tuna, mackerel, and salmon sushi. Yes, I have a huge appetite. Sashimis and sushi are very light fare that I can destroy a bunch of these. I also ordered miso and seaweed salad to complement the rich sashimi. It was very satisfying. My wife and my daughter ordered the seafood boil which has a variety of seafood and such an awesome sauce. Can't say anything else about the food, but this might be my favorite AYCE sushi/sashimi place so far. The amazing and very attentive staff is just an icing on the cake. We ended up ordering the spicy crab roll and the combo #1 which includes: crab legs, shrimp (NO HEAD), mussels, and an egg. This seafood boil bag came with 1 potato, broccoli, and 1 corn on the cob. I came across this place as a recommendation on a recent post in the Northern Virginia Foodies Facebook group where someone was searching for an all-you-can-eat sushi spot. The price mentioned in the post was $25, though that seemed to be the pre-pandemic rate. During weekdays, it's priced at $27.95, which is quite reasonable given what we could order. Even though this place was a 35-40 minute drive from Washington, DC, it was absolutely worth it. I'd recommend visiting on a weekday shortly after they open. When my friend and I arrived, we were only the third party inside, and our excitement was palpable as we perused the menu. We decided to focus solely on sushi and started by checking off items like salmon, tuna, white tuna, and yellowtail nigiri. Next up were the rolls: Tuna, salmon, white tuna, yellowtail, Spider, Spicy Girl, Black Dragon, Eel and Avocado, Baltimore (Not pictured: Alaska and Rainbow). Among them all, the Black Dragon roll stood out as my personal favorite. For my next visit, I'm thinking of going for sashimi instead of nigiri since the rice can be quite filling. Everything arrived beautifully as pictured, and we complemented our meal with hot tea to aid digestion, a tip we'd heard. The combination of miso soup and tea helped us savor this incredible feast without any trouble. After trying the rolls, I couldn't resist ordering some calamari, which turned out to be delicious. I came here with my wife and friend this past Saturday for all you can eat sushi and we were very impressed. The menu looks nearly identical to General House in Glen Burnie although this location is closer to us and others in the DC area. They have a great assortment of rolls, sushi, sashimi, and appetizers to choose from. The fish to rice ratio was more generous than other AYCE sushi places. The service was fast and friendly. The ambiance resembles that of a Cajun restaurant rather than Asian or sushi. Luckily we were here during the entirety of a really bad storm so it was nice to be off the road and inside eating delicious sushi. We look forward to returning! read more

Decided to try this place with a group of friends one day, who doesn't love all you can eat sushi?!? When we arrived, it was pretty empty and we were seated pretty quickly. However, the servers seemed to be in a rush. They give you and all you can eat menu and the regular restaurant menu. When one person ordered. They took everyone's menus....so we had to ask for the menus back so we could finish ordering. The edamame was very good, crab Rangoon....not so much. The spring rolls literally had 2 shrimp in them, and the sushi was not that great. The volcano roll was the best roll to me, the spicy tuna was not good and it tasted fake. Not pictured was the mozzarella sticks, they were great! The atmosphere and ambiance was really cute and they had a great music playlist. Chances are, they may have other great dishes outside of their sushi; they had alot of to go orders and they may have ordered from the regular menu. In my previous review, I gave 4 stars, calling the location a 'hidden gem'- the sushi rolls were made fresh-to-order, packed with ingredients, and were quite delicious. Thought, when we visited, we were the only table in the restaurant, so we had a delightful experience. When we decided to dine again, bringing friends on a Wednesday night, we arrived when the restaurant already had a few other tables dining, and saw a few more people arrive after. The set-up of the AYCE was to utilize a sheet with blank spots near the item for selection, marking the quantity desired. When given the sheet the staff reminds you please don't waste food, as is read on the top of the sheet- so we ordered a first round sparingly. Between the four of us, we ordered some appetizers and approx. 3 rolls each. The first round took about 20mins to arrive- when the food came we tried to immediately give them the sheet with our next order, to create a food arrival flow, though the waiter failed to check in on our table for a fair amount of time, in which we finally had to get up and hand it to the woman at the front desk. We'd look for him and he'd be off organizing napkins or menus- With the food order in, we then waited....and waited...and waited..after about 30mins wait, with the fussy babies waiting for their hush puppies, we asked our waiter the progress of our food, he pointed, told us the rolls on the top counter were ours & almost ready..but then he brought the plates to another table. This proceeded to happen 3 times, to which now 45 mins went by. With 50mins gone by and no food, hungry babies waiting on food half our party needed to leave & I asked for the manager to inquire if our food was truly up next. The manager proceeded to tell me apparently the AYCE is a one-sheet order system. If we wanted a second order, we would have to wait for every other table to get their first order first regardless of when they arrived. So this could mean we have hours until we get a second order...um WTF...that made no sense for the ticketing system. Typical ACYE experienced are the order is created when we put our sheet in, and if that isn't the case we should have been told when we are given our first sheet order everything you possibly want because you really don't get a round two. The manager kept saying, "well your rolls are ready", to which I kept asking they have been saying that for 25mins can we actually have them to eat them, & at this point can please take them to go because the hungry baby has hit capacity and our other group had to even leave because the hour wait. I can understand being short staffed & us having to wait, but the manager just kept saying it was our fault for placing a second order-we should have known their nuance rules, and we a second sheet can take hours, what did we expect? Again um...wtf.. Being upset at this I continued to request please just go get our food, and at this point-screaming baby means I am taking it to go, whether she gives me a to-go box or a napkin. She gave me a to-go box, but imagine my frustration to see they got our second sheet order wrong. Again, if it was an understaffing issue, fine- but this wasn't lack of staffing, this was a breakdown with their ticketing system, blaming people on ordering AYCE food?! read more

This is now our go to spot for sushi dinner. All you can eat for less than 30 bucks. The sushi was really good and the service was pretty good. The menu seems to offer lots of fresh sea food. I am looking forward to trying some different ite I didn't like the spring rolls, too greasy in the inside for me. Everything else was delicious the sushi was great! Went here on December 10th, good food fair price and good service. Went again on December 23rd was seated. Waited for 20 minutes and never even got our drink order asked. Another party comes in and gets seated they come over and take their order. As we get up to leave the waitress comes over and stated she was just about to come over. Over 30 minutes of waiting for getting a drink order in is completely unacceptable. As one that works in customer service I can understand being understaffed. The place did not appear to be swamped but taking a party of 10-15's order prior to a family of 4 that has been patiently waiting is not a way to take care of a customer. read more

My son and I love sushi, and we saw the sign that says all you can eat, so we stopped. For 26 dollars Monday through Thursday and 28 Fri-Sun, you can eat all the sushi you want. In particular the salmon, tuna, yellowtail and white tuna sashimi was just super fresh and melted in my mouth. The sushi came out very quickly, too. My guy and I were killing time and we stopped in for a bite to eat on a Saturday afternoon! It was virtually empty inside and we were greeted and seated right away. My guy ordered the shrimp and broccoli entree and I ordered the all you can eat sushi. All you can eat sushi is ordered on papers that are already at the table. You pick options on the page and provide to the server. I ordered the miso soup, kani salad, shrimp tempura roll, crunch roll and California roll! I didn't want to order too much because they charge for any wastage and they are strict about sharing with your dining companions. There are signs at every table and the staff are watching you to ensure you do not share! The food was very good! I was hesitant as it was all you can eat so I wasn't sure if the quality! What a great hidden gem in busy Gambrills. We went on a Sunday afternoon. It wasn't busy. The staff was very attentive. They offer a great selection of seafood boils, Chinese food, and the AYCE sushi menu, which also includes some salads, specialty rolls, and hot appetizers. We opted for that menu. Everything was tasty and nicely presented. We were very pleased with the selection and felt that it was a great value for what we could choose from. Very solid mid tier sushi ayce(doesn't have like salmon roe or squid or other higher tier ayce items like albacore). Service was normally paced for made-to-order, only two chefs working the lunch on a weekday is pretty standard. One server slowed everything down, but they ran around/served quite efficiently. Quiet environment, chill music, but the window is a bit open-feeling/exposing so not an ideal private-feeling place. They don't skimp; though the sashimi IS cut in half you can order as much as you want in one order. The soft shell crab in the spider roll is actually crab and not shrimp(thank god). The rolls are well proportioned, though the nigiri has a bit more rice than normal. Their soy sauce is reduced sodium(or it could be like the Chinese sweet one) for sure; I personally am not used to it but I know some people like it. Their apps were great; loved the mozzarella sticks(Korean restaurant style), and the avocado salad had a good sauce. Overall food is a solid 8/10. Pro tip here though:don't order hot and cold rolls at the same time; they don't separate them, and it could ruin your colder pieces. I've been to a few ayce sushi places around MD, and this is the one that has most approached a quality I am more used to for sushi ayce in other, more established, Japanese food locales. read more

Been wanting to check this place out for a minute, and finally got the chance yesterday. My wife and I are both really big on sushi, and seafood so wth both of them at the same place how could this not go right? I hate reviewing the interiors of restaurants, because what do I really know about interior decorating? I just know that is was clean, and wasn't over done. To my recollection one side had windows, and the other had a net with different sea animals on it. Both sides had booths, and there were tables in the middle. We sat down, and went over the menu's. They offer all you can eat sushi which you just check off what you want on a menu, and give it to the server. My wife actually got all you can eat sushi and said that the sushi was really good. However from my observation I didn't like how the staff members stood at the bar near our tables, seemingly keeping tabs on who ate what. They definitely weren't there to refill drinks, or removed any unused items from the table, because we had to ask them to do so multiple times. I will also point out that there is a clause in the all you can eat sushi that states you can't share, and if you do they can charge you full price for what you've eaten. Prior to my wife getting her food one of the servers made a big deal about pointing out to my wife that she would be charged for any food she didn't eat, and was unreasonably stern about saying he would charge us full price. Which made him look like a jerk when she pointed out that he wasn't holding her order form, but was holding the one from the party of about 12 that was sitting next to us. I ordered the #2 Signature steam bag, and it was also really good. I got the garlic butter sauce, with medium spice. The more the seafood sit in the sauce the better it got. I started to just unpeel everything and leave it in the sauce at one point. My son ordered the chicken strip combo. He wasn't big on it because he didn't like any of their dipping sauces. We asked for ranch, but there was an obvious language barrier between us and the server that i mentioned was watching from the bar. We asked him a few things during the course of the meal, and every time he would just point at random items on the menu, and mumble. We asked if they had a kids meal, and he pointed to the appetizers, and fried food. We asked for ranch dressing, and he pointed to the appetizers, and fried food sections. We asked him to remove some of the empty cups from the table, and he refilled everyones cups without removing the empty ones. All that to say that, if you like honey mustard or ketchup the chicken tenders were actually fire in my opinion. I know someone will read this and think that i'm going over board about explaining how the staff watched my wifes sushi, but i'm not. The second my wife lifted the last piece of sushi into her mouth, dude walks over and drops the check on the table while she was still chewing it. Overall I think the food here was delicious, but I think the staff needs to be trained better. It felt like they were just looking for any reason to upcharge us for the sushi as if I didn't spend 50 bucks alone on my steam bag. I do understand that people will come in and try to get over, but why try to nickel and dime people who come in and spend there money. If you gotta have that level of security to watch people, then you might as well not even offer it. read more
