Food has been amazing both times I have been. Had the Hot Honey Salmon Po'Boy and the Shrimp and Grits. Both were flavorful and delicious.

The inside doesn't smell pleasant when you enter. Service was slow and inconsistent. When mentioning that our silverware didn't appear clean, we were asked if we wanted plastic ware instead of being offered a new set. My glass was dirty. Appetizers were overdone. My lamb chops were mostly fat, and the 5-cheese mac was more buttery grease than cheese. I couldn't try the fried green tomatoes since it came with gunk all over it. We were seated across from the trash can at the bar. There shouldn't be a table across from that; that's gross. I wish I'd have just stayed in and eaten my CookUnity meal - this was gross and overpriced. read more

Miss Toya's in Gambrills, MD is a really cute location. We made a reservation to celebrate a graduation, and they were incredibly kind and accommodating. The manager (Shem) and his serving team went above and beyond to ensure our experience was outstanding. We ended up ordering so much food because everything on the menu looked amazing. We were on our way to another spot and then saw this place and decided to try it on a Monday afternoon. Customer service was friendly but a little slow. The space was clean and had a lot of potential to be more aesthetically pleasing. They did inform me that they plan to have a buffet starting in October and this space would definitely be nice for soenthing like that. We got the jerk chicken rolls and catfish for appetizers. The chicken rolls and sauce was good. The catfish was fried well and came with beer battered fries which are my favorite type of fries. I got the gumbo w/o sausage and got a nice portion of seafood in it. It tasted good with a dash of hot sauce added to it, but I wish it had more rice in it for a better balance. My husband got the jerk lamb chops and he said they tasted really good; sweet and a little spicy. He said they were real tender. He also the seafood got mac n cheese and again they gave good amount seafood with the side. He also got the brocolli which he liked. I got a side of kale and I didn't enjoy the flavor. We both would definitely come back here! I think with a few tweaks, this place has a lot of potential to be a top contender. read more

Came here because "brunch" was in the name haha. Later on, we thought it was weird that it said "brunch" outside, but "kitchen" on the inside. No matter. We had a baby with us who was getting fussy so we had time to get an appetizer and a drink for each of us. It wasn't super busy when we got there, but the atmosphere was nice. The jerk chicken rolls were really good! Not too hot. I wish there was more of it! I got the peach lemonade and my husband got the secrets drink. We would have gotten a coffee, but I guess they didn't serve it? Which is weird for a brunch place to not have on the menu. Overall, it was just okay. Definitely overpriced. So we ended up trying Miss Toya's as a last minute attempt to find somewhere to have dinner for our anniversary as we had an unexpected family priority which prevented us from us from keeping our initial reservations somewhere else. BUT I will say Miss Toya's did not disappoint. They were not only able to accommodate us, but our server was extremely attentive and the food was really good. The ambience however gave us more of a fast casual experience than we expected but we didn't mind. We actually returned the following weekend. Our menu favorites were the fried deviled eggs and hot honey salmon bites. We enjoyed them so much we returned the following week. We hope to try the much talked about brunch in the near future. read more

My husband absolutely loves authentic southern food, and so, when we found out about this restaurant, we were very excited to try it. The atmosphere and interior was fine. It looks like it was newly remodeled, but it definitely does not give off southern kitchen vibes. It seems like it's kind of confused in what kind of restaurant it wants to be. We were told to find a seat promptly upon walking in. Within five minutes of sitting down, our waiter was over to ask for a drink order. We had each ordered iced tea, not paying attention and were surprised when it came and was sweet tea. My husband likes unsweet tea and I prefer to use my own sweetener. But again, this is supposed to be a southern kitchen restaurant, so I guess sweet tea is not a stretch. I just wish they had offered both options. My husband was very excited to see Oxville on the menu and that is what he ordered. He got it with collard greens and cornbread. He said the collard greens were OK and the cornbread was good. However, he was underwhelmed by the oxtail. He was also very surprised to see that it was not served over rice or anything. I ordered the catfish with macaroni and cheese and sweet potato as my side. The catfish was breaded and fried very well. The breading was very, very salty, however. The catfish itself was moist. The sweet potato side was probably the best thing I ate. It was very good and could definitely be offered as a dessert! It was that sweet. The macaroni and cheese was not bad, but it was not anything to write home about. For the caliber of food, the prices are absolutely ridiculous. It was a very expensive meal. We likely will not return. read more

Arrived for lunch at 11:45AM and was informed there was a 30-min wait, Three other couples were also waiting. In viewing the dining area I noted there were eight empty tables ... so maybe they were understaffed. loooong story but food wait times exceeded 20-mins for appetizers, entree, and dessert, $6 for Iced tea and you only get 1-refill; 3rd glass or 2nd refill is another $6. I found the food to be bland and none of it was hot. Overall for me, Miss T's is over-rated, over-priced, and under-delivered food. read more

Visited not long after they first opened, so there were some understandable growing pains to work through -- the kind of thing you expect from a new spot still finding its footing. The food itself was a hit across the board, everyone in my party walked away satisfied with what they ordered, and it's clear there's real skill in the kitchen. The environment, though, didn't quite match that energy. It felt a bit stale, like the space hadn't caught up to the quality of what was coming out of the kitchen yet -- nothing that ruined the visit, just an area with room to grow. Given that we caught them early on, I'd give it some time before writing it off. New places often need a few months to work out the kinks, and based on the food alone, this one's worth revisiting down the line. read more

This was my first time going here. Everytime I say I was going to go something came up. I first went to the one in Silver Spring but they were only serving brunch so I drove to the one in Gambrills. I made reservations and got there and waited for almost five minutes before anyone came to the hostess desk. The table she was going to sit me at wasn't available so I just went to the bar. The Bartender was attentive and provides great service. The food tasted good. I was a little concerned with the deviled eggs presentation but it was good. Went to Miss Toya's cause wife said some real housewives of Potomac ate there. Ordered fried deviled eggs, which were good. Next, split the seafood fried basket with fries. Half of the fries were cold, but seasoned well. The fried shrimp and catfish were very salty, the mustard helped with dealing with the taste. The cornbread was warm and sweet. The ambiance was wonderful - playing Brandy's first album is always great! Definitely a work in progress. It has a lot of growth potential to get up to the quality that I am accustomed to at the Silver Spring location. The drinks were good and food was nice, but I want that amazing southern style cooking. That makes you want to slap your mother style cooking. Lol. I like the openness of the space and the decorations are so pretty. Having a great hostess would set the dining experience off right and follow it up with amazing service from start to finish and this establishment could be a great spot for the Village at Waugh Chapel. Not bad, but could be better. This place just opened not too long ago so they still have some kinks to work out. One being the inability to order takeout over the phone or online (you have to go in which honestly defeats the purpose). I came here on a weekend and the place is pretty spacious. I ordered the platter with charbroiled oysters, wings, and deviled eggs and for my entree the fried chicken dinner with mac and cheese & collards for my side. The food wasn't bad, however for almost $70 dollars I expected more flavor and satisfaction with my meal. I think I may be back in the future to gov then some time to work out those kinks, step their flavor game up, and possibly create a nice happy hour selection as well. read more

Beautiful new restaurant and great location! I've only been to the silver spring location prior to this and had a great experience there. We went during a weekday evening so it wasn't too busy, our waiter was great and checked on us frequently. They have an option to try three appetizers for one price, which is nice if you cannot decide on just one. We ordered the seafood rolls, steak and cheese egg rolls, and oysters. The steak and cheese egg rolls were a favorite of the three. I was underwhelmed by the oysters, charbroiled oysters to me come out very hot and with the cheese melted, this was the opposite and tasted sandy/with pieces of shell in them. For my main entree I ordered the pork chops with Mac and cheese and greens. The pork chops were very good! The baked Mac and cheese was dry though. I would try this location again though, this may have been an off night. read more

I am one for trying new restaurants especially those that have specialties that cater to my tastebud. As one who hails from New Orleans where just about any dish you try is going to be good, we tend to compare dishes with the ones we are accustomed to eating. I visited Miss Toya's restaurant on Sunday after church, looked at the menu and was surprised at the items that were listed. Of course, the gumbo, shrimp and grits, catfish and grits, and several other items caught my eye right away. Haven was our host and when asked about the gumbo, she was confident that I would enjoy it even after telling her where I was from. When it was brought out, she suggested that I try it and if I didn't like it, she would take it back. Wouldn't you know it? Haven was correct. This was the best gumbo I've had on this side of the Mississippi. I could not eat it all and decided to give the rest to my son. He called and asked, "where did you get that gumbo from?" It was delicious." I just couldn't keep it to myself. I told a friend about it. He went out the same day and picked up 2 roasted chicken plates. The restaurant was very clean, and the atmosphere was quiet and friendly. Haven, Kimberly and Ms. Howard, you three, made my dining experience one of the best. The location got two stars for this restaurant alone. I visited the Silver Spring location and was so Souray disappointed, I had decided to never go back due to the service and lack of wait staff knowledge. Anyway, that's the past, lol. Stopped in after seeing Sinners at Regal and so glad I did! Roger, the manager on floor was extremely personable and ensured he spoke to everyone, checking to see how our experience is going. I had the salmon bites and collard greens...both were delicious. Thank you to my server Dalli (I am sure I butchered your name, sorry) for answering all my spice level questions. Im spicy - don't need to add anymore. I also ordered a drink (or two) made by different bartenders- you could tell lol. Not in a bad way but one was definitely stronger than the first. The price is comparable. I really hope we get more restaurants like this in the area which is really what prompted me to go in there and patronize. We made reservations at Miss Toya's on Open Table. They're having their soft opening Wednesdays-Sundays 4PM-Close and will operate normal hours in a few weeks. Unfortunately, we were underwhelmed and provided the manager our feedback of salty dishes, undercooked meats, slow service, etc. I was happy to see he welcomed any and all feedback and appeared sincerely apologetic with our experience. We understand it's a soft opening so hopefully the next time we visit, our experience/food will be better. The ambiance is beautiful and music an added vibe. Service! I'm 60 and I have never ordered on Door Dash or Uber Eats, so it took at least an hour to figure out how to put an order in. I called and was told by a teen or young adult to just order on Uber eats and they will instruct you and hung up. Once I got there I got my food instead of checking it. I realized that the order was incorrect. So, I call back and the same inexperienced employee said well that's what you picked and there's nothing you can do. I explained what I intended to order and stated that I had never done this before, so now I hear a manager? In Any REPUTABLE establishment, the manager would intervene and see what they could do to rectify. Not only did that NOT happen, but the young person just kept repeating herself. She never asked what I would like to be done. Finally, I realized that this is not an establishment that takes time to train young people who have NO social skills due to them being on their phones? If I were dining in and my order was wrong, they would take it back. Even after I explained that I have a food sensitivity to sweet potatoes, which were too sweet and looked different than any candied yams I've EVER seen! Not going back! Service comes from upper management. They all need to take several customer service courses before open an establishment for "Us" In Waugh Chapel. Maybe that service is acceptable in their other locations, but not this one! read more

Went to Miss Toya's in Gambrills for dinner with my family. The restaurant is new and nicely decorated. Modern decor. It took about 15 minutes before we were greeted and placed our drink and appetizer orders. We received our appetizers quickly but it took almost 30 minutes for all to receive drinks. It appears the servers were also bartenders. We ordered the pork chops, catfish, jambalaya, and Cajun chicken pasta for entrees. The food and drinks were delicious, hot, and nice portion sizes. I would go again and recommend visiting if you like southern food, just pack your patience. read more

I've been to the Silver Spring location years ago and didn't remember it so I decided to go with my friend for lunch. It looked nice in there, especially the bar area. We both got a poboy (I got catfish and she got shrimp) with fries and a drink. They actually have a poboy special with a hurricane drink for $22 which is what I ordered. We really liked them but if they toasted the bread a bit more it would've been perfect. Then we ordered a bread pudding to split and it was good. I ordered my fiancé a catfish poboy to go and didn't realize until he opened it at home that there was NO SAUCE! A poboy with no sauce is a tragedy (I love sauce) but he said it was still good. read more

The service is abysmal. For the price I simply expect better service. The quality of the food was questionable. The staff clearly did not like one another and did not appear to work as a team. There was ONE server for the entire restaurant working multiple sections during our visit. The server was working hard, just not as efficiently as a more experienced server might have. The bartender and manager were very attentive to a lady at the bar but 'service' seemed to stop there. At one point after eating the flaming hot jerk egg rolls no one at our table had anything to drink but there were 3 male staff members (one of which was the manager) huddled around the woman at the bar. We were seated less than 12 inches away from them as the bartender was no longer behind the bar, but standing right behind the woman seated. I actually had to walk up to the bar to get the drink that I ordered... the bartender said he had no idea where the drink was supposed to go. It had been sitting out there for a while... at least 3 other drinks were made and had come and gone after my drink was made. Again, a server issue but the lack of teamwork in the establishment was noticeable. The macaroni and cheese did not appear to be fresh. The sauce that was supposed to be served with my entree was brought out later after I asked about it and appeared to have a film on top of it as if it had been sitting out. The collard greens were ice cold... not even warm. The food runner offered to "heat them up" for me. They weren't really that tasty so I ended up not even eating them (l didn't even take them home) or the mac n cheese (again left at the restaurant) or the 'sauce' (also left there) I paid for the food and tipped the server but will likely not return. Please offer the hard working server some additional training. He came to our table with what I believe were the petals from the garnishing flowers for cocktails stuck to his hands. It almost made me want to leave. I watched the poor hostess become so frustrated with the back of the house for not having started any take out orders. She snatched a bag out of the food runners hand. The bartender should have to manage the 3 tables in the bar area or at the very least help out the server when management chooses to understaff or when call outs occur. I was beyond unhappy with the service, food, and overall experience. I cannot say that I will return. The local online community is going to roast this establishment if immediate changes are not made. read more
