I've been wanting to check out Frank & Luke's for a while now and finally got the chance just before the new year. My family and I arrived here for dinner and were excited to hang out and try something new. We sat ourselves and then went about ordering our food. Our food was brought to our table by 2 different gentlemen, one who made small talk with my wife (who is el salvadorian). He asked in Spanish if she spoke the language, and the in Spanish asked if I and my kids spoke it. I thought nothing of it at the time and we went on to began eating our meal. My son then began to comment that the same guy who had spoken earlier was now lurking around and watching my wife, his actions were even noticed by my daughter. After keeping an eye out for it, I than began to notice it for myself. He wasn't just sneaking peeks at my wife he was full on glaring at her from in front of the kitchen window. He would stare at her even as I was staring at him, and when we made contact he would look away, but go right back to staring, smirking as if it was funny or a game. This obviously made me upset, and my wife very uncomfortable, to the point that she asked us to wrap up our meal so we could leave. I felt disrespected as a man, father, and husband by the actions that had taken place, and to add more insult the worker followed us to the front of the restaurant as we left still staring and smirking as we left the restaurant. I dropped my family at home and came back to speak to somebody about what had occurred. The same guy was at the register and told me that he was.in charge and that nobody else in the restaurant spoke English, which I knew was a lie. I needed up talking with a young man named Christian and explained what happened. The guy continued to try to cut into our conversation even after I had asked him to step away. I was given a card with the owners name and number, that I misplaced, but I did write an email which has since gone unanswered. As far as the food The chopped cheese and cheese steaks were okay, but we were not a fan of the barely melted sliced cheese that came on all 3 of the sandwiches we ordered. Also, the eggs on my sandwich were cooked over easy, but still runny on top which I didn't enjoy. I have never seen a spot that didn't just melt the cheese.over thr meat on the griddle before putting it on the bread but this place clearly doesn't if you look at the photos. The loaded fries reminded me of outback, and were pretty good. The fries reminded me of boardwalk fries. My son didn't like his pasta at all. There was no marriage between the pasta and the chicken, it was just placed on top with bread and had burnt bits that you can also see in the photos. We ordered wings, that were okay, but I'd pass on them quickly if I had other options, by the time we got the wings all of the awkwardness was in full swing and we were ready to start boxing up our food. I understand that some might think my food review could have bias because of the terrible experience we had during the visit, but even had everything went smoothly, I don't think that we would've returned for a second visit, just based on the food. The servings are big here, and most of the food looks good, but I don't think that they're as good as other places in the area that serve similar items. The Mrs. and I were looking for a good cheese steak and stumbled upon Frank & Luke's in Gambrills, MD... And since it had NY Pizza Kitchen in it's name we figured we would try the pizza. The restaurant appeared clean and the set up was nice with the booths and the seating by the window which reminded me of a place in NYC that I went to years ago. The service was good and the gentleman who took our order was cool. We ordered the original steak for my Bride with mayo, lettuce, tomato, grilled onions, and she changed the American cheese to provolone. (Some folks complain about putting mayo on a cheese steak, but in Philadelphia we call that a cheese steak hoagie). I had the Florentine cheese steak, with roasted garlic, sauteed baby spinach, provolone, and balsamic mayo. Man this jawn was off the chain. If you like garlic you will love this and it wasn't overpowering with the garlic. Both sandwiches came out hot and fresh. The ribeye was tasty, the sandwich wasn't overflowing with meat like some places in Philly, but it had enough on it; and the fries were good... Nothing special, but good. Oh yea, we had one slice of cheese pizza just to taste it. That was the closest to a NY style and taste of pizza I've had down here. I've never felt more uncomfortable at a restaurant than I did at Frank and Luke's Pizza. What should have been a simple, carry out order turned into an unpleasant experience largely due to the manager, Humberto. He was shockingly rude, confrontational, and unnecessarily aggressive -- not just toward customers, but visibly toward his own staff as well. It was clear the wait staff were walking on eggshells. They looked nervous, rushed, and uncomfortable, which made the atmosphere tense and unwelcoming. No one should have to work under that kind of pressure, and as a customer, it's incredibly off-putting to witness. The food may be decent, but no pizza is worth dealing with that kind of negativity. I am trying some of the local Crofton pizza spots and started here. First, I will say they have a cool selection of pizza options with interesting combinations. And if you are in the shop, you can buy pizza by the slice to try different options. We ordered the NY style pizza with bacon and sausage. It was a really good pizza and truly non complaints. Not too saucy and you could pick up the pizza without it falling apart. The only reason I am docking a star is the sides sadly. The wings were horrible! Soggy, barely cooked, and based with buffalo sauce. The calamari was decent. Not bad but also not MJ d blowing. And the garlic knots are solid if you like bread drenched in garlic butter. I have been looking for a good pizza place, and I liked their takes on different pizzas to try. But, this place is meh at best. I have ordered three times from there, and each time my order has been wrong. Today, I placed an online order and got their penne vodka pizza, a ny cheese pizza with half pepperoni, and some jalapeño poppers. The penne pizza is 3/10, the vodka sauce is good, but the poorly cooked pasta ruins it. This is probably more of a personal taste though. The jalapeño poppers are TINY, like slightly bulgier than a quarter, which is crazy. But, sure.. And I didn't get the ny cheese with half pepperoni. I got a a margarita dop pizza, with no pepperoni. Not a super huge deal, but also not what I order or paid for, and definitely not what the kids want. The crust and dough is good, and I have been hopeful it was just a random bad experience. This may be the closest you get to NY Pizza in MD. The crusts are a little doughy but well cooked with a little char on the crust. Sauce is on the sweet side. The gluten free pizza crust holds together fairly well. Cut bigger pieces and fold them, otherwise the crust will fall apart. They were out of garlic knots, which made the kids very unhappy. Man, this place is so nice! I had lunch there yesterday. I saw the pics on here and decided to give this place a try. I am so glad I did! I ordered the godfather, which is a grilled chicken panini with red peppers, spinach and some kinda of aioli, fries, and I got a small side salad. When our food came out our server couldn't quite understand what I was asking her and she Immediately went to get someone to help. I ordered the two slice (white garlic and buffalo) and a drink special and the classic steak and cheese--the supreme way with a side of fries. The steak and cheese was big and tasted really good. I will preface this with, I am a cheesesteak snob. I often travel to Philly when I have a craving. The Florentine Cheesesteak A different spin. I am alway open to differ flavors in a cheesesteak. I liked the spinach and the garlic on the sub. Not enough balsamic Mayo (which was the major selling point of ordering this sandwich). The steak itself was bland and lacked seasoning. The bread was okay, nothing noteworthy. The cheese to meat ratio was off and the meat to bread ratio was off a bit too, both needed a bit more. Very juicy, which was good. Be mindful of the juice factor if carrying out, because a long journey could result in soggy bread when you get home. Loaded Fries These were meh. Good amount of cheese melted on top, needed more bacon, fries needed seasoning and the ranch was bottled (noticeable taste). The grease used was old, you could taste it in the fries. The fries were in a bag and the condensation made the fries soggy when it got to me. The sub was in a box and the bread was still toasted like I like it. I love that the sun is huge! I found F&L recently in a small shopping center in Crofton, MD, while stopping for a few fresh, hot, Krispy Kreme doughnuts. I hadn't noticed F&L before and having a new restaurant in the area was a welcome surprise. As you walk in you encounter the pizza display case with a sign over it saying 'take out' and the pizza ovens to the right and a seating area to the left. Lots of pies on display and a huge tower of glistening, mouth watering, Garlic Knots. The order area, or register, is placed at the other end of the display case, middle of restaurant ... so when you walk in you see the 'take out' sight but your searching the restaurant for the seating or ordering location. The pies are really good; you can order by the slice too. The Stromboli was excellent. The spaghetti sauce was just the way I like it, chunky with a hint or garlic. After hearing from my sister that my girl Melinia from Nonna Angela's was a manager at Frank & Luke's, I knew I had to pay this restaurant a visit! I heart Melinia! Apparently F&L is the sister restaurant to Nonna Angela's, which is about 2 miles down the road and serves up the best authentic Italian food in the area. Located in the same parking lot directly behind the Krispy Kreme on Route 3, Frank & Luke's is clearly a welcomed addition to the other restaurants in the area. It's nothing like it around. Since I had already checked the menu out, I knew I wanted to order the cheese-steak and fries. It comes highly recommended. Their menu consists of whole pizza or by the slice, salads, paninis, subs, desserts and other Italian deliciousness! You can either dine in or carry-out. I opted to carry-out this particular visit, but the inside was immaculate! The young lady that greeted me was so delightfully pleasant and the customer service was spot on.When I got home and tried my food, it was really delicious. It was seasoned well and plentiful! I could kick myself for not allowing them to add toppings. I told them to hold the toppings, not realizing that meant the lettuce, jalapenos, and tomato...duh! First timers mistake!
