I'm so glad I made the trip out of the city. This place is a whole vibe. Those ox tails were fantastic! tender, falling off the bone, and seasoned to perfection. And that curry goat? The food was not good! It was a party of four. We went during happy hour and ordered jerk shrimp flatbread, wagyu jerk burgers, shrimp egg rolls, shrimp quesadillas, and two salmon salads. Warning!!! This is not Caribbean jerk. I had two sauces that were supposed to be jerk, one tasted like barbecue sauce and the other was a sweet sauce. I personally had the flatbread, burgers, and quesadillas. Well I have been waiting to try this place out. So glad I finally did. I met a friend here. We arrived at 05:30. They open at 5pm. There was only two other customers when we arrived. We were greeted and seated promptly. Our server name was Sunny. She said she was also the bartender. She was very attentive. Checked on us regularly and was very friendly. My drink was awesome! Not strong but just what I needed to take that drive back home. We both ordered the Po boy shrimp sliders. It came with fries. Also ordered the shrimp egg rolls. I hadn't been back since they initially opened years ago. I know! Shame on me. My initial visit had many hiccups and sadly I hadn't felt the desire to return. This time I sat at the bar and had great service from Cameron. The happy hour specials are decent. I enjoyed the watermelon lemondrop with vodka - there's an option for tequila! It wasn't too sweet and really couldn't taste the alcohol. I also got some jerk wings. They didn't taste very much like jerk. I probably wouldn't get them again. While walking by to wait on other tables, he did apologize and said he had a big party come in... that party had six people. Blvck Cow is located at Bowie, almost at the middle of the suburb so there will be ample parking. We made a reservation on a Saturday evening and so were seated immediately upon arrival. The ambiance is okay, I was expecting the inside to be a little bit more upscale but it was more casual than I expected. There is also outdoor seating but we opted for indoors on a hot summer night. If you like some heat in your food then this is your spot. We started with the oxtail flatbread, which was really tasty but I think the oxtail flavor wasn't distinctive enough, regardless I enjoyed it. I also ordered one of the pasta dishes which came with assorted seafood - the mild flavor had a kick, but the pasta sauce was so creamy and tasty. The portions were also pretty good, I ended up taking some of it to go. Service was really pleasant from staff, but slow. It seemed to get busier as the night went on so our waitress took a little bit before getting to our orders. This was my first time at Black cow, and I was really impressed. The drinks were so good. I had a black raspberry martini, a peach lemon martini, and a watermelon lemon drop martini. My favorite was the black raspberry martini. I substituted the tequila with rum and it was delicious. For appetizers, I had the wings, a side of fries, and the oxtail pizza. That oxtail pizza was the star of the night. I would definitely recommend it and plan to come back. The bartender staff were so personable, fun, and hospitable, especially Martis and Madison. I have visited this restaurant several times this year, and unfortunately the experience continues to decline. Most recently, I came for a holiday get-together with a group of friends. While our reservation exceeded the number of people who actually attended, it was still a relatively slow Friday evening, so there was enough space to accommodate. Because our group was so large (And because the space we were given was not large enough to accommodate the original reservation), we were pulling chairs from the party room just to sit down, which made it difficult for staff to move freely. Despite this the servers were kind, patient, and clearly doing their best to work around us. To help improve the situation for both our group and the staff, I politely asked the hostess if we could move into the party room, assuming there were no reservations. She had to consult with the manager and it took an unusually long time for the manager to finally come over. When she did, she had a noticeable attitude. I tried to extend grace because she appeared to be young and quite possibly overwhelmed, but the interaction quickly became frustrating. Instead of problem-solving, she focused on complaining about the original RSVP count, which I did not coordinate, even though the seating we were given could never have accommodated that number anyway. I calmly explained that I was simply trying to help find a solution that would make things easier for her staff and more comfortable for our group. She seemed confused by this, and said that we could not sit in the party room unless the entire group moved, which was unrealistic since some guests had already been seated for over an hour. Shortly after this fruitless exchange, a few of us, including myself, found ourselves eating our meals off the top of a short half wall separating dining sections. As a manager, that should have been embarrassing for her. About 15 minutes later, a few of us took a nearby empty table, assuming we would move if asked. The manager then approached us, visibly annoyed, saying she was trying to get the party room ready and that we needed to be patient. This was the first time she communicated that plan. She never sought me out to let me know, so there was no way for me to relay that information to the rest of the group. We should not have had to ask in the first place. A manager should be able to recognize obvious overflow and proactively offer options. What too many businesses failed to realize is that vustomers have choices, especially with the rising cost of food and dining out. A good manager would see a large group as an opportunity and work to ensure guests are comfortable so they continue spending money. Unfortunately, this manager seemed more focused on her own frustration than on leadership or hospitality. If she was overwhelmed, delegation would have been appropriate. I want to be clear that the servers were excellent. Christian, in particular, did a phenomenal job taking care of everyone in our large group despite the circumstances. However, based on this experience with management, I am not sure I will return. This is not the type of environment where I want to spend my money, especially if kindness and respect are lacking. This also was not my first negative experience here. During a previous visit in the hookah section, I left early because the staff member managing the hookah section was smoking weed while on the clock. Unprofessional and unacceptable. Joining some friends here tonight for a celebration of ribbon-cutting in DC. We had such a great time with the live music. The food was good, but the service was even better. I mean service to the level that I can't even explain from the host of the bartender to the server everyone was so attentive and the place was so well managed and organized. I dropped my knife on the floor at one point during dinner and the staff was so attentive that before I could move to pick it up, someone popped up out of nowhere, grabbed my knife, took it to the back and brought me a new one within seconds. Great cocktails, very chill vibes (makes me wonder why I don't make time to come out to Bowie for dinner more often vs. dealing with the DC traffic/parking saga), and our waiter was very nice! For an appetizer, we shared an oxtail flatbread which was BOMB (the waiter told us ahead of time that it would be good for 2 people and he was right), and then I got the lamb chops with rice and beans. I really wanted to give this place a good review but my experience went from good to gross. My friend had a birthday brunch here on a Sunday for about 15 guests. We sat in the middle but they didn't seem prepared because as her guests were coming in, they had to keep adding tables at the end to accommodate guests. We had to shift a bit but it ended up working out. Because I sat next to my cousin, I can only review our food. I had the brown stew snapper and grits while she had the Hennessy French toast. I also ordered the bottomless mimosa which was only a $10 difference from 1 glass of it. We were given 2 options of cranberry or orange so I chose cranberry. The food was quite delicious and my cousin enjoyed her French toast. Now where it goes left is that we got up to take pictures of the birthday girl and although we were done majority of our food, the waiter or clean up staff took our plates. I came back to the table with hopes to take some leftovers to nibble on in the evening but our food was gone. Luckily we made it back to stop them from taking the birthday gals food. I was a bit disappointed but glad I enjoyed the majority of my plate. I then went to the bathroom and was grossed out on how dirty it was and the water was scorching hot when I went to wash my hands. We left to go to a nearby hookah spot so carpooled but when we returned to Blk Cow to get our cars, used their restroom again, 2 hours later the bathroom was in the same exact gross condition. Ventured to Blcvk Cow with a friend for Saturday brunch, and the entire experience was a great vibe overall! Seated immediately. Easy, free parking. Well seasoned food. The DJ was playing great songs. Drinks ok, service ok. For service, there were some slight improvements we did wait a while for drinks like ~25-30 min and we both old fashions which is a pretty straight forward bourbon drink. I am a Kentucky girl, I love bourbon so for my drink I asked if they had Uncle Nearest bourbon, the waitress stated they had it so I proceeded to order. The drinks came out at different times, with mine about 15 additional minutes after my friend when she stated they did not have what I requested but they made it with Bullet bourbon instead but she could take it back if I wanted. After waiting 45 min and my friend was half done with her drink I just kept it. From a training perspective you should always go back and ASK beforehand so I could pick Woodford or something else. But our food came out quickly. After the food was delivered we did not see our waitress for a while. We planned to order a second round plus dessert but after so much time passed we just drank our water and when she did finally check in, we checked out. The food was yummy! We decided to visit this establishment a second time after having a pleasant experience a couple of weeks ago. We had happy hour drinks and appetizers while enjoying a conversation and somewhat muted background recorded music. The vibe was total chill mode. A colleague shared they had been as well but their dinner was ruined after being served mushy shrimp in a dish, twice. Even so, we returned tonight for drinks and dinner. Major disappointment. It started from the time we arrived and joined several people looking helplessly around the restaurant because no one was attempting to assist them. A few of the people waiting suggested we should seat ourselves. Finally, one of us was able to flag down a restaurant employee to ask for help. His initial reaction was one of bafflement. He finally snapped out of it and seated the party in front of us and soon after, me and my dinner partner, as well. However, we were seated at a table that other patrons had asked to be move from because it was very unsteady; rocking like a cradle. Diners on both sides of us warned of its condition. We were finally moved after getting mixed signals - "we'll fix it", "don't know if we can move you" to "come with me". We were lead to a table that had been previously occupied by a larger group so once the adjoining tables were separated, it still needed to be cleaned and set. It was cleaned but not set. I'll get back to that in a few. Also, this is about the time we noticed the loud music. A lovely server approached our table and said she would get us some water. I asked for lemon slices on the side. Shortly afterwards we received our water. We noticed the restaurant was getting crowded pretty fast unlike the first time we visited. The party next to us was boiterous and annoyingly loud. We ordered wings and brisket sliders. We noticed the table of eight cackling women next to us had no less than 4 different servers delivering their food. And they all seemed to be bumping into each other. It was odd to watch. Now keep in mind, we ordered our drinks, their signature margaritas, 30 minutes ago. I notice a server walking towards us with two dishes on his tray. He makes eye contact with me and motions to ask if this was our order. I said the wings were for me and then he aked my dinner partner, I'm not kidding, "is this yours?". He sits the dishes down but we don't have any eating utensils or napkins. Remember, the table was never properly set. I ask for utensils/napkins and he brings us two sets of plastic carry-out utensils. I can't make this up. I had to request the proper utensils. In the meantime, forty-five minutes into this fiasco, we ask about our drinks. The nice server explains that they have a new bartender and they got all the orders mixed up. Not our problem. Almost an hour later, our drinks are served. The appetizers were just ok. The buffalo wings tasted like Tysons frozen wings, pretty boring. My dinner partner said the sliders were "different". We soon noticed that live entertainment had started. The sound decibels were elevated to the nth degree. We could no longer have a conversation without screaming. And even then, we could hardly hear each other. The band sounded great, had they been at a larger venue. Their sound literally swallowed the whole space. It was unbearable. I finally asked about the lemon for my water and the nice server admitted she had forgotten about it and went to get two slices. By this time the music is blaring, the cackling women are grooving and my dinner partner and I have aborted all efforts to communicate with each other. We ordered entrees but couldn't get what we wanted because they were out of curry goat, red snapper and oxtail. What kind of caribbean-themed restaurant is this??? Our food arrived, blackened salmon for both of us; mine accompanied by a "caesar salad" and theirs with mashed potatoes (chunky and dry) and creamed spinach (disgusting). I have never seen a caesar salad with cherry tomatoes and I had to ask for croutons. The salmon was decent but not served at the medium temperature I requested. And "blackened", NOT. Furthermore, the small soup bowl in which the salad and salmon were served was not functional. Every time I put the fork in it, either lettuce or salmon fell out the bowl. I had to ask for a larger dinner plate. All the while, the music is so loud it's rattling our brains. We planned to order another drink but it was too much confusion. Finally, we asked for our check. They comped the cocktails that were served almost an hour after they were ordered (gee, thanks). The bill included an automatic 15% gratuity on a tab for two! My friend paid the bill so I didn't review it carefully. Had I, we would have customized the tip. How dare the restaurant take the liberty of rewarding itself for such lousy service. My fiancé and I came to Black Cow in Bowie for the first time to celebrate his birthday and his younger brother's graduation--and every single dish was a hit. The portions are generous (think Cheesecake Factory big), the food is incredible, and the vibes? Immaculate. I had the jerk salmon pasta--great flavor, not overly spicy, with plenty of salmon and perfectly cooked tricolor pasta. The jerk chicken flatbread was basically a mini pizza and packed with flavor. A family friend tried the jerk chicken with greens and callaloo and immediately said, "Somebody in that kitchen grew up in the Caribbean." She meant that as the highest compliment. The drinks were on point, and our server Anissa struck the perfect balance--attentive without hovering. We loved it so much, we started seriously considering switching our post-wedding dinner to Black Cow. So we came back to speak with the manager, and while we were there, tried the happy hour menu: the shrimp Po'boy (crispy and saucy in the best way), the Wagyu beef sliders (so flavorful they had me convinced that cow lived a happy life), and the chicken tacos--which were so good I had to pause and just savor the moment. It's rare to find a place where everything hits: the food, the service, the energy. But Black Cow Bowie delivers. We're officially fans, and we'll definitely be back. It was a bit confusing and disappointing- as we were unaware there was a cut off time at all. We ordered a mimosa flight that came with 3 mimosas. Venue: aesthetically pleasing, I thought it would be bigger. Vibe: there was a DJ and the music was good. Mostly R&B hits. Food: good and flavorful. They did not have regular hot sauce which seemed odd. Pricing: typical inflated prices. Mimosa options: the menu states OJ and Prosecco which is false advertising. Brut sparkling wine was brought to the table. Champagne poured tasted flat. The flavors had an aftertaste. I'd prefer not to be told I'm getting Prosecco when I am not. Ended up returning the mimosa and deciding against the bottomless mimosa option. The waiter explained that individuals could order separately bottomless packages since we wanted different flavors. In that case we didn't both drink from one pitcher. This isn't typical because most restaurants require that everyone at the table purchase bottomless. This was either explained incorrectly or not something that actually offer because it proved problematic when the bill came. Bill issues: even though we only took a sip of our drink and sent it back, it was still on the bill. It showed that it was compensated by the manager but it was still taxed and calculated into ONE of our bills even though we asked for separate checks. The manager attempted to explain that the system couldn't split the mimosas which completely contradicted what the waiter explained. 20% gratuity is included for all tables/ checks. They charged my sister gratuity for her items. Put both the mimosa packages on my bill and then charged me gratuity on that was well as my items I actually kept. The manager tried to explain that he couldn't fix the way the system split the bill and the waiter should have put in two separate orders "but you guys sat together". If he really wanted to resolve the issue they could have refunded our transactions and replaced the orders, correctly. Service: the waiter was nice but service was slow. I went for Saturday brunch and the vibes were great. The staff was super friendly and informative. The brunch menu was limited, but had good options. They offer parking in a spacious parking lot. Last Sunday, my best friend and I enjoyed brunch at Blvck Cow. The venue impressed us with its pleasant atmosphere, stylish décor, and excellent customer service. Unfortunately, when we tried to order, our server told us they had run out of oxtail grits, lamb chop grits, and quiche--the main dishes we were hoping to try. Despite our disappointment, we stayed and picked other options from the menu. We ordered a mimosa flight, salmon bites with grits, and NY steak with eggs. While the food looked appealing, both dishes lacked flavor. read more

Visited here on yesterday for dinner and this was a second visit since they opened but the same outcome as before; overrated, overpriced, long wait, and poor tasting of good. For an appetizer; ordered the octopus which would have been better if there was charred grilled taste. The mixed salad served with it was ok but a lot of withered lettuce. Dinner took about 20 to 25 minutes to receive; the main part of the whole snapper was good and I went with the estovitch sauce. The two sides were jollof rice and braised cabbage and they weren't good. Rice was dried out and cabbage had a not so pleasant taste like burnt. Haven't loved and supported Mad Cow restaurant, I thought it would be a winner too. Two tries and it's a wrap for me NOT again. read more

I was sadden by BLVCK COW. I sent with some friends to celebrate my birthday, brunch style. It was recommended but a social group to hold a party at because it was a good vibe and to show support. Service was a little slow. One of my friends couldn't wait any longer for their meal and had to leave due to blood sugar being low :-( I usually order simple breakfast and stuck to the same this time : eggs, turkey sausage, grits and home fries. All of our food was under seasoned and some complained about temp and how dry some of it was like the French toast. Most of us order mimosas and ended up with headaches. I'm not too sure what type of champagne they use but was told this could be the culprit however at $31 for bottomless, one would hope for better quality. However, I don't know what was used and since I don't usually drink champagne I wasn't aware of what was causing it until discussing with it with friends data after. The inside is also a lot smaller then I had imagined. I feel snubbed and wish I had chosen a different restaurant to celebrate. My friends are great so they really made it fun. read more

Service was excellent, and the waitress was very attentive and sweet. Ambiance: the place came alive once the DJ arrived, but that didn't help the food...**sips tea** Lamb lollipops were extremely overcooked! I visited Blvck Cow this past Sunday, 8/4, for a friend's bday brunch. I'd never heard of the establishment before, and wasn't expecting it to be in a regular ol' plaza, but it was. The restaurant itself occupies a large space with one side devoted to tables and chairs and the other side a bar that spanned the wall, plus a lot of high top tables and chairs. Decent decor, though nondescript. Very clean bathrooms. First, there were A LOT of us. A LOT. Our server was a champ - I didn't get her name, but she's a small-framed petite woman with short blond hair. Anyway, excellent service from her. She kept her cool through multiple rounds of orders (drinks, apps, entrees) and all the questions from 14 women (and it likely got worse for her once we started drinking). I went with the bottomless mimosa, GM crunchy french toast, a side of eggs fried hard, and bacon (and possibly the potato hash, can't remember because of mimosas). I wanted the housemade corned beef hash, but they were out. Totally disappointed, I'm a corned beef hash connoisseur. Also, didn't love how all the entrees are a la carte. I feel the french toast should have at least come with eggs. All of the food was really good, but I'd say the french toast was pretty rich and I was unable to eat it all. I was nice and full and buzzed though, so no complaints. Again, our server was super helpful through the payment process. Blvck Cow doesn't split checks, but does take separate payments for large groups, so keep that in mind. Overall, excellent visit. I don't live out that way, so doubtful I become a regular, but good to know of decent spots to eat in various area codes! read more

Two Stars: One for Service One for Supporting my Local Community Blvck Cow oh how I wish I could rate them better! I've never been and I've had this place in my to-go list for quite sometime. It's unfortunate that is this my first experience. I came out today for HH. I walk in at 6:45 p.m. and there is about six people in the establishment. The bar didn't have several liquors so my friend couldn't get her drink of choice. The manager was SUPER respectful and apologetic about the inadequacy of the bar. She owned up and stated she understood the frustration. My drink was made incorrectly and I had to say something about it, they took it off the bill. Another mishap. We ordered the following: Sliders Shrimp Skewers Shrimp Po Boy They were all okay. Nothing to write home about. Will definitely try again as people have said the food is okay. read more
