This is my FAVORITE restaurant in the DMV! I'd literally book a flight just to come here and eat! I've eaten here twice on two different trips. And made sure to place an ubereats order both times, so I could fly back home and share this gem with my mom. I promise you, anything you order will surpass your expectations. I didn't get a picture of the fried Oreos, but make sure not to leave this spot without a sweet treat. They have the best bread pudding I've ever had. My cousins and I always pulled up for a late night bite, literally minutes before closing, and the food has always been a hit. My BFF (my Wife) and I stopped here with some friends visiting from New York after seeing them online. We were all craving some good Caribbean food, but unfortunately, this experience was really lackluster and did not live up to the reviews The service was frustrating. The girl at the register seemed to be on her phone the whole time, I couldn't tell if she was calculating something or just talking, but she definitely missed the mark on our order. We specifically asked for Steak and Cheese Egg Rolls with no mushrooms. By the time we got home, we realized she gave us Jerk Chicken Egg Rolls instead. They were a mess; sauce was all over the container and the fries, and the chicken inside was incredibly dry and overcooked. Surprisingly, the Fried Rice was really good, which isn't the first thing I'd associate with a Caribbean spot. The Jerk Fried Chicken Sandwich was also a standout and one of the best things we had. Our friends ordered the Rasta Pasta, which was very heavy and spicy, and the Jerk Chicken with Rice and Peas. They had asked for wings but got dry grilled strips instead, which was disappointing. My Cabbage and Collard Greens were also pretty average--I've definitely had better. Between the order being wrong, the dry chicken, and the distracted service, it just wasn't what I hoped for. It was an okay meal, but nothing I'd recommend or go back for. Definitely inspect your bag before you leave this place. Normally, the food is good. However, I spent $39.22 last night on an Ox Tail dinner. Got home to find one big oxtail, six small, meatless bones, rice, and peas- dry as hell, like the desert. The food was cold by the time I arrived home, about an 8-minute drive. When I called back, the guy was rude on the phone, saying, " What do you want? " After giving him $6.00 in cash. I said I would come back to exchange the side since I had eaten the oxtails. He replied," Naw, we don't do exchanges. " I told him, " Wow, I just spent over $40 plus your tip. " He said, " Ok, " then hung up. Not to mention, I come here a lot. Please don't go in after 8p.m because you'll receive terrible food and deplorable customer service! I will tell everyone I come in contact not to give this place their money. I used to give this place 5 stars, but I wish I hadn't- this place has really gone downhill. read more

Yum, yum, yum! Ordered the oxtail dinner delivery last night and it was DELICIOUS. They give you more than enough oxtails that are all meaty, candied yams cooked perfectly and the curry cabbage was surprisingly good. I ate the entire plate and was so full afterwards. My friend ordered the jerk chicken dinner which she shared was perfectly spicy, along with collards and rice and peas. She also enjoyed everything on her plate. Since we ordered delivery, I can't speak for service or ambiance; however, I will be making an in-person visit to try more of their menu in the future! Had a taste for Caribbean and wanted to try somewhere I haven't before. Did a quick search on Uber Eats and found this spot. I ordered quite a lot because they were running a special. Greens & Cabbage:9/10- Not well seasoned and had a kick but still good Mac n cheese: 5/10- wouldn't order this again. Too spicy for my liking and oily. Shrimp- 5/10- wouldn't order this again. Not sure if it was the restaurants mix up or Uber Eats. There was supposed to be a Hot Honey Jerk Option but no selection could be made. I called the restaurant to let them know I had placed an Uber Eats order and this is what I wanted. They told me the Hot Honey Jerk wasn't a thing but they could give me jerk sauce on the side. I was appreciative, however, when the food came there was no jerk sauce lol. I might've liked it better jerked. Oreos: 1/10- they were soggy by time I got them (understandable) and I didn't know they came with chocolate drizzle. I would probably order them inside but never again uber eats Rice & Peas- 10/10- DELICIOUS!! I mean I ate this by itself! Probably the best part of the meal Cornbread Muffin- 10/10- this was some of the best cornbread I've had. It was very soft and cake like. I wish I had ordered 2. My second visit and the food is consistently good. The restaurant is clean but nothing special in terms of atmosphere. Service is efficient and this time was super quick. The food is well prepared and delicious. I had the jerk wings not visits with the macaroni and cheese, which was wonderful, along with the greens and cabbage. The food was ok. We ordered the salmon with curry cabbage and fried rice, suga and spice wings and the oxtail sandwich (which isn't displayed on the menu) and jerk crab fries. The oxtail sandwich would've hit better if it didn't have so many BIG pieces of peppers and there weren't pieces of bone inside. There was also way more "gristle" than meat. The flavor was good however. Maybe consider adding the oxtail gravy on the side because my bread was super soggy and offer it on coco bread instead of a roll. The crab fried were really good just really spicy. They give a good amount of lump crab which you don't find at other places. Highly recommend these. The salmon dinner had good flavor, I didn't taste the fried rice (because who would he even order that lol). The suga & spice wings tastes like they fried it and put sweet chili sauce on it. I also ordered the mango cooler which was good. It tastes like a mango jumex. The service wasn't bad but it wasn't great either. They weren't mean or anything but their attitude was just "blah". The menu online and the menu in the restaurant have prices that don't match. It's only by $1 however they need to match. The place was clean as well as the restroom. Joy greeted us the minute we walked in with a cheerful and friendly vibe, and within two minutes, she ran down the entire menu like a pro. Even though it was dinnertime, I ordered the Coco Jerk Chicken Sandwich, and wow I was seriously surprised by the portion size. This might be the best $15.90 I've spent in a while. The fries? Seasoned with chili and Old Bay, crispy and flavorful. The chicken fillet had that perfect balance soft inside with a slight crunch, and seasoned just right. Sunday 2/9/25 I made a takeout order online via toast and got the coco jerk chicken sandwich with/ fries & peach lemonade $15, fried chicken and Hawaiian French toast (Suga & spice sauced wings) $20, and the white chocolate bread pudding. My food was slated to be ready at 1:40 pm, but it wasn't ready until 1:48 pm. Also, I was really looking forward to the oxtail sliders, strawberry lemonade, and strawberry mango lemonade, but they were all sold out. - The coco jerk sandwich meal is the definition of VALUE due to the great bang for your buck. The jerk chicken sandwich was cheesy & messy, and it was still good, and they don't skimp on portions at all. - The seasoned fries were flat out awful: they tasted stale and old. You can just tell the fries weren't fresh. - The Peach lemonade, while not being my first or second option, turned out to be decent. - The Suga & spice fried wings were good. You get around 7x wings that are slightly sauced with the Suga & spice sauce, which reminds me of a specific Asian/Chinese type of sauce that I can't remember. Also, the wings would've been better if they were properly sauced. - The Hawaiian French toast is a very cool concept, but it suffered from an underwhelming execution. They're alright, but I honestly expected better. - The white chocolate bread pudding was delicious. It's a different type of bread pudding that's very moist & dense. You get a good portion of it, and it would be taken to another level with the addition of ice cream & a house-made bread pudding sauce like a praline sauce, but that's just me nitpicking, it's good as is. Overall, my experience at Suga & Spice was good and memorable, and what makes it even better is that it's a black owned business, which is great to see. I would be open to returning and recommending. The service was great. We were welcomed when we walked in. We were served in a timely manner. The food was okay. It has a lot of potential to be greater. The oxtail sliders were good, but it didn't have any sweetness to it. It tasted like stewed brisket with melted cheese on a slider. I wish it had a slaw on it or a different flavor profile. The jerk chicken egg rolls tasted great on the first bite but not the rest. I understand that the chicken may have jerk seasoning, but the sauce was needed throughout the egg roll. I would ask for extra sauce next time. Also, the aioli was a little heavy on the mayo. The seasoning on the fries was great. I tried the shrimp from my friend's plate. It was cooked well, but I felt like there was something missing. Maybe it needed more sauce. Last, but not least, I tried the honey cornbread. It was amazing! It was moist and sweet. My daughter wanted to try this place after seeing it on tik tok and invited me to tag along so I could foot the bill I'm sure lol. But after reviewing the menu online I was quickly on board. The rep at the counter who took our order was simply the best! Kind, patient, offered suggestions, answered our questions and greeted us with a smile . I even apologized as we were a bit all over the place while placing the order in my opinion and he reassured us it was okay and to just let him know when we were ready. We placed a carry out order to go and the cashier assured me he would double check everything to make sure all our food was there since we placed a large order. I really appreciated that, it's the small things for me. The food was pricey but worth it. I don't mind spending but the food has to be worth the price tag and when I say they delivered they did! I ordered the Hot Honey Salmon dinner which comes with 2 sides and my daughter ordered the Not Yo Momma Penne Pasta. I loved the Salmon OMG it was soooo good, the hot butter corn muffin yummy yummy in my tummy but the Mac and cheese was unfortunately just ok and could be better. My daughter loved her pasta she gave it 5 stars! This place was on my list to try for a while now. When my party and I got there we pushed two tables together to have an ample amount of seating. The place inside is small. As we are sitting down, we expected someone to come and take our orders; however, they didn't and just remained behind the counter. So I finally asked, is anyone coming to take our orders and what is the process? They informed us you order your food at the counter and they will bring it to you and water. I ordered the Hawaiian rolls French toast with wings and cheesy grits. I was disappointed because they gave me all legs and one wings, also the grits were not cheesy, but grainy. My plate left a lot to be desired. My girlfriend ordered the shrimp deviled eggs, I tried one and they were delicious. My son enjoyed his meal, which he ordered the blueberry pancakes that came with chicken strips and cheesy grits. He also really loved their watermelon lemonade. Locally owned black business in Hyattsville. Located right off the street near the chipotle, if you blink you might miss it but this is NOT a place you want to miss. There is a small bar area that seats about 5-6 which is a little small but the ambiance makes you feel like your at your favorite pub. There is a little seating and walk up orders are taken at a small window below the menu. Customer service was attentive, knowledgeable and friendly. If you want to bring a group: Came here to celebrate a birthday, size wise I really wouldn't recommend a party larger then 15-20. That will mean that no one else can sit inside the restaurant. ( besides the bar) There are no waiters, you order your food at the walk up as if you were going to carry out and then they will bring it out to you. I LOVED THAT! It solves that "who's playing for who" and "can we split the bill" issue. The music was a mixture or current and past hip hop and it was loud but not too loud for us. The food portions were large, the drinks were delicious, I am very pleased we chose this place. We had Candied Yams Curry Cabbage, Hot Honey Salmon, Not Ya Mommas Pasta, Oxtail Hawaiian Rolls, Pepper Jack Mac, Jerk Salmon, wings, greens, crab Chicken Wing Dinner, fries, and our food came out hot, fast and delicious. The place looks chill, but the music was blaring for a bit... but it got turned down after a while. I waited for someone and then sat at a table and looked over the menu. You can look at it on a screen that's pretty high up, or scan the QR code. I decided to go the light route and get the jerk honey shrimp deviled eggs and curry cabbage. So here's my take on these two dishes: 1) Jerk honey shrimp deviled eggs -- there were five eggs, and one was plopped over when it got to the table. Taste-wise, pretty salty... the egg on its own didn't have much flavor, but I appreciated the sweetness from the honey that dumbed down the salt a bit. 2) The curry cabbage was very yellow, but I can't say that I really got much curry flavor from it. Tasted more like regular cabbage than anything, but I was happy to get my veggies in! Now, I did taste my friend's pasta dish and that really hit! The crab, the flavors of the pasta and sauce... yes. I would say that the real stars of my visit were the owners, who I had the pleasure of meeting. They were super hospitable and so open to honest and constructive feedback.
