The food was fantastic, the service was fast, and the prices were reasonable. Portion sizes could have been a but larger though.

The decor was lovely and the ambiance represented an upscale experience in my opinion. They even offered free champagne and it was good! My friend and I tried: the Sticky Ribs Suya, Jerk-Braised Short Ribs with Curry Pea Risotto, Oxtail Mac & Cheese, and the Suya-Spiced Lamb Chops. All of the food was absolutely delicious, my only gripe would be that the lamb chops didn't come with enough green beans. The "Up All Night" (their version of an espresso martini) was also pretty good. Next time, I'd opt to get a traditional espresso martini though. Lastly, the service was outstanding. Our waitress was very kind, attentive, and timely. We even left her an extra tip. If I had to make a suggestion, the big ape could be moved elsewhere. It really does take up too much space.

We were going to an outside event, but because the rain and cold we decided to go ahead and try this spot out. And it did not disappoint at all! We did not have a reservation so when we walked in it was packed we were a little worried. But nope we were able to get a table because someone who made reservations didn't come so we were able to slide right on in. We started out with a couple of drinks I believe it was a 1123 punch. It was alright but the drinks I got later made up for that drink not hitting. My boo he ordered the waygu egg rolls and they were fire ok! We also ordered the fried chicken fried deviled and they were so good. Never thought I would like fried deviled eggs. For our entree he ordered the jerk chicken meal and I got the crab risotto, scallops, and spicy broccolini. When I tell you my scallops were so tender and the risotto was so damn cheesy! Lord have mercy! Now to the drinks...so we tried a Hennessy drink can't remember the name was STRONG then my last drink was a nice fruity drink which hit as well. The inside of the restaurant is very much given upscale date night and nice vibes and the DJ was playing those tracks! The only reason I didn't give them 5-stars is the price. They automatically add 20% gratuity and the prices for the food were a little high. But other than those I would love to come back and maybe just sit at the bar during the week day just to see how the vibes are during the week versus the weekend vibes. And how could I forget the complimentary champagne...not a full glass though...lol

This is a bistro version of Korean food but it is surprisingly good, if not authentic. Christmas…read moreshopping at PG PLAZA leads to the inevitable chorus of "I'm hungry" from my kids who are always angling for a way to eat "out" food. After considering our options, we settled for Bonchon as likely a more healthy option. Wrong. We walked in and the lady had an attitude. Knowing Koreans like Jamaicans always have an attitude, I persevered in telling her that we needed a table for 7. The restaurant was totally empty as it was a Wednesday night, and her furrow dropped even lower when I told the kids no Thai teas or boba at 7pm as this was dinner not a treat and it was too much sugar lol. We ordered 16 wings with soy garlic and spicy sauce, Korean tacos, chicken fried rice, vegetarian udon noodle soup with mushroom, bulgogi bibimbap and a chicken bibimbap. The long and short of it was, the food was good and most people cleaned their plate. They don't have a kid's menu so I usually have my 14 yo daughter and 6yo son share an entree because she's picky and he's greedy. My 10yo son ordered chicken fried rice which was MASSIVE. I gave his sister and his brother some rice, and he also had some Wings and one of his sister's tacos. I heard not a peep as he devoured every bite. It was a quiet meal. We do a lot of chatting at the table normally and it wasn't that late! My 17 yo son-who eats like it's his full time job - couldn't finish his bulgogi bibimbap ( or so we thought). He asked for a box and then ate it all out of the to go box. The 10yo got an extra lunch out of the chicken fried rice even after sharing with his siblings and my oldest daughter (20) got 2 full meals from her spicy chicken bibimbap. There were rave reviews on the spicy wings, Korean tacos with both soy garlic and spicy chicken and the chicken bulgogi. My son who ordered the bulgogi didn't rave but he did fully make a glutton of himself, so I'd say that speaks for itself. I had the noodle soup and it was massive. It made a comfortable three meals for me and the broth was so nicely seasoned- it would be PERFECT for being sick and ordering carry away. Overall, I think the bad reviews are for the service. She was efficient, the food was plated beautifully and it was all good. The only standout mistake was she forgot my daughter's order of kimchi and when she brought it, it had not fermented wholly and it was SWEET!!??!!!! The mind REELS. We did not enjoy it. If you like kimchi, maybe don't order it here lol. Overall 3.5/5 rounding up instead of down because she wasn't rude, just morose and terse, and the food was amazing.

I had sooo many meals from here since I went to UMD. When I crave for rice dish or a cozy beef noodles soup, I always go to this spot. Honestly, it's not up to par as to Taiwanese restaurants in Rockville, but it's also not mediocre and it's quite good value for the price. One thing I have to give it a solid 4/4.5 is the popcorn chickens and fried snacks, it's huge in portion and taste very close to actual Taiwan flavor. It always comes out piping hot and juicy. Very satisfying. On the other hand the drinks are meh, I'd rather walk a little further for other brand's boba milk teas. It's more of a food cafe than for drinks. I would recommend for students and staffs at UMD, but I won't go there if I have to purposely drive to this place. I believe there's better somewhere else but it's very convenient and solid lunch for UMD. (UMD don't really have too much Taiwanese food options, this is about it)

My Hotote crudo app which should be served cold was served cold on a super hot plate which means by the time I ate it, it was thus weird hot/semi-luke warm temp and honestly, not appetizing. I tried the Moriawase after and told my server I wanted to add caviar if it was possible and since I didn't get any, I assume it is only an option for the nigiri/sashimi. Silly but no problem. I was still sooooo hungry I ordered a Surf&turf roll and it was less than appetizing. It had no flavor which was terribly unfortunate. I didn't make a review about the sake mixup or my server only to be polite but there are definitely low points, and those make the list. I hope it's better for everyone else!
