So disappointed in my experience here. This was my 2nd time at this place. The 1st time was fine, which is why I returned. Let's discuss my ratings: Ambiance: 2/10 very outdated decor; the small place had a packed hoarder look. I liked the reggae music being played which is why I gave it a 2. Service: average. It's a carryout type of place. 5/10. FOOD: 1/10. Let me break it down. Coco Bread-7/10, Calolloo-8/10. It was very oily and greasy but tasted fine. Brown Stew Chicken with rice and beans and cabbage. Chicken was dry and tasted old 1/10. Rice and beans were subpar-3/10. Cabbage was too oily and did not serve the PUNCH I wanted. EXTREMELY DISAPPOINTED! Want more authentic opinions? The flavors of the cakes and homemade juices here are astounding. I came for the Strawberry Rum Cake but they were sold out. I decided to have a taste adventure and learn what a Jamaican Black cake was. Not a bad decision! Loved it. This cake tastes like Christmas! I'm thinking it's a dark rum that they use along with delicious fruits in the cake. You can really taste the marzipan, as well. How lovely! There is nothing plain about the unassuming Butter Rum cake. It is somehow flavorful, dense and rich while still maintaining a lighter flavor. Now onto the juices. Get them. Get 6. Get 12. We tasted the Pineapple Ginger. Meow meow meow meow meow. The Cherry Guava Ginger juice is so warming - ie ginger that brings much heat - and I love it. They have authentic Jamaican dishes here and I've tried and enjoyed the Chicken Roti long ago. I'd love to come back for the seafood dishes. They have many varieties of patties with coco bread. The beef patty with coco bread is the best amount of spicy heat for me. BTW, you could smell the curry all the way from the main road. I knew right away which restaurant that lovely smell was coming from. Their service was also fabulous with us. That's why they are 5 Stars. read more

Close to Burger King and NASA. We tried the curry goat roti and coco bread. Both were huge and just okay. The curry wasn't complex in flavor and the roti tasted oily and flavorless similar to jerky toughness. I wouldn't come again but it didn't job. This place is probably best for jerk and sweets. read more

My go to Caribbean Place in the Greenbelt area. Tips 1) Try the black cake; it looks funny but it's one of my favorite desserts... around the world. ask for the Icing 2) The Brown stew chicken is likely some of the best you will ever taste. 3) The curry chicken is good, Jerky not extremely spicy, so they cater to everyone. 4) you will have to ask for plantains instead of sweet potato. 5) don't be fooled by the look or the name, the food is excellent. Small business SUPPORT THESSE FOLKS!!!! read more

Do NOT waste your money here!! Not only are the portions small for the pricing, but I found MULTIPLE hairs in my curry goat. They DO NOT offer refunds. There are much better places in the area, I heavily encourage you to spend your money elsewhere. read more

Visited this place a few times this summer as an alternative to my normal Jamaican cuisine spot. I was referred to try this place and going in I did not have real expectations other than to fix a craving however I left with a feeling of gratitude. One thing I like about this place is the food seems fresh. When experiencing Jamaican food in the DMV sometimes it can be a dice roll but and when you find a good restaurant it becomes a go-to especially if they are consistent. Sometimes you can tell food isn't fresh when it is loaded with salt as a preservative or to restore flavor. Weakness For Sweetness seems to pass the freshness test. My first experience this summer I thought perhaps the food lacked the full flavor I am accustomed to however after that first visit it was clear to me that other Jamaican restaurants simply were over seasoning their dishes. Another thing to note is Weakness For Sweetness spares no open space in the to-go box. They fill the to-go boxes with food. Every time I visited this summer I was able to save some of the food for leftovers. I ordered Large both times. Actually my wife and kids were able to share two large meals. They also sell baked goods here however I probably won't purchase any more sweets from here because the cakes don't seem to have the depth of flavor and sweetness I am accustomed to. It could be a cultural thing but I expect a bit more from pound cake and lemon cake. I tried the cakes on two separate occasions to confirm. The cakes tastes good but again just a bit short of my general expectations. For me there are options at other places to meet my sweet tooth. I want to talk about the customer service but again I recognize that generally many Caribbean restaurants in the DMV aren't known for their interpersonal friendliness. At Weakness For Sweetness I've tried engaging the older lady who takes the orders and packs the food and honestly the interactions have been very dry however I know the respect and appreciation is there because she always is very deliberate and intentional when thanking me as she hands me my food and depart. My last visit this gesture was bit of a relief because her interaction with me was rather cold up until that point and I wasn't sure if I rubbed her the wrong way or if she just was having a bad day. Overall, this place is good and one which I will return. To date I have tried the following dishes from Weakness For Sweetness: 1) Oxtail 2) Brown Stew Chicken 3) Curry Goat 4) Plantains 5) Rice & Peas 6) Beef Patty 7) Strawberry Mango Ginger drink 8) Lemon Cake 9) Butter Pound Cake read more

Lawd have mercy! I am beyond glad that I finally tried this place after noting that I would for a few years now. I ordered the jerk tilapia and I think that I made the perfect choice! Now before I get into depth of this review, I want to say that this isn't your typical no frills dried up Jamaican place. They are as authentic as it gets, and they put love into the food. You can feel this by the exchange that you get when you walk inside, the rich aroma in the air, and the magical taste of the food. Now, getting into the tilapia! Upon the first bite, my eyes lit up like a Christmas tree with new bulbs!!! The jerk was nice and spicy, and the fish was absolutely cooked perfectly. Crispy on the outside, with moist white meat on the inside!!! The cabbage was nice and flavorful, and the plantains were nice and sweet with a touch of softness and crispiness at the same time! I also really appreciated the portion size, I ordered a dinner portion and there was enough food to last me two days. Deliciousness + generosity is a win in my books. The only thing keeping me from giving 5 stars, is the time management. I called my order in and they told me it'd be 15 minutes, I get there and waited 30 more minutes for a total if 45 minutes until my food was ready.. I do know that my food was made with love and care, but it'd be nice to know this instead of being told an inaccurate time. They runnin on island time baby! Nevertheless I was very satisfied with my overall experience, and I will be back to try more dishes in the near future. I highly recommend this spot! Cheers to good eats! read more

Weekness For Sweetness - Jerk Tilapia - Caribbean Near Me - Greenbelt, Maryland

My favorite dish at Weakness for Sweetness is the Jerk salmon with vegetables, plantains and "Bob Marley" rice. The salmon is always fresh and prepared exquisitely. The "Bob Marley" rice is Spanish style yellow rice with seasonings and chopped vegetables. The dish just works. Their jerk is not overly spicy and very flavorful. The curried dishes are worth a try as well. I am a roti addict, and here it is cooked just the way I like it. I still have yet to try their version of Jamaica's national dish, Ackee and salt fish. In most of the dishes you can see and definitely tastes the fresh spices like thyme, allspice, and peppers. They sale extra gravy/sauce like jerk or curry. Get the extra. Also, the Bob Marley rice is a must, even if peas and rice is your go-to. Just add the other rice dish as a side order to compare. The desserts push the stars up a notch. So many fresh baked cakes, breads, pies. The coco bread is so filling and pleasantly so. The red velvet cake has to be my favorite guilty pleasure. Pro tip- make sure to stop in on Jamaican Independence day and Bob Marley's birthday. They add specials to the menu that are outstanding. Lastly, the staff and owner are downright nice. They answer your questions and will let you know if your request can be accommodated, like more rice in lieu of plantains. Just a great place in Prince George's County to get Jamaican cuisine and scratch baked sweets. read more

My new local Jamaican spot is on to something! I have been a handful of times, so I think I can give a fair judgement now. The first few times I have had their food, my parents have brought them to me. More recently I started going in person, and it's a nice quaint little place. There are a couple of tables to sit at if dining in is the desire. There is usually Caribbean music playing, but there have been a couple of times when there wasn't. My introduction to their food was their jerk chicken, their roti, and a couple random patties, which I enjoyed. While I do enjoy all of their patties, they have one type that I usually struggle to find - CALLALOO PATTIES!!! And they're among the tastiest I have had to date, though my sample size is fairly small. I had their brown stew chicken recently too, and I got it in a 'large'. They give you a LOT of food. It was three meals worth of food for me, and I must say I was delighted. They also have full callaloo entrees which spark my curiosity, as well as a big variety of desserts that I bet are delicious. I will have to try some soon. I'll be back! read more

The food was alright. It was not bad, but that's it. The chicken patty could've had more texture; it was very pasty and the patty itself was a bit dry. The rasta pasta was good. The noodles used was different than what I am used too - but the flavor was there. I think I'll try something else for sure. read more

So I know better than to go to a Jamaican place trying to rush people. I phoned ahead. I was told 10 minutes. I waited (my fault) & went in. Waited in line for 10 min while they prepared the order of the guy in front of me. While the 3 people prepared/waited for his meal (cook in the back wearing her mask around her neck; that I only saw b/c of how long I waited), none of them moved to help the next person in line. After he left I told her I called in my order & she started to make it. wth? Ok, fine. She's just going to scoop up the rice/peas & throw the fish on - NOPE. She goes in the back WTH? Then I think she must've told them to get it ready, she's just going to get it. NOPE. She comes back empty handed. Ten minutes later I get my food. WTF!?!? I know they don't care & will probably never read this - but damn. My boss is a #%^@ & I get 30 minutes for lunch. WTH am I supposed to do now? Yes I work for myself but that is completely besides the point. And furthermore, the fish was sorely disappointing & they didn't have any coco bread in the middle of the damn day. Done read more

From great to just decent. I used to be a big WFS fan a few years ago, and continued coming back because they made their patties fresh in house. But a good patty is not enough to sustain a 5-star rating, so down my rating goes. Honestly, outside of the patties, the food is not that amazing anymore. The jerk is underwhelming and the curry does not taste fresh. Customer service is wishy washy - sometimes the employees are pleasant, and sometimes they seem to have attitudes. Get your Caribbean craving on somewhere other than this place - there is better food and customer service to be had elsewhere. read more

I came here a lot. For the past 5 years Probably on average once or twice a week until I moved. Today was my last day. I came in at 10:58. Door was open. I asked y'all open. The cook comes out and rudely says, what do you think? Not "we will be in 5 minutes." Not, "just wait a little while till we get everything going and the lights on". Nah he wants me to think it's my fault. No problem. I'll keep my money in my pocket good bruva. Poor service leads to poor bottom line and little profit. Consider that next time. I haven't been in about a year I was really disappointed. Guess they have a new cook! Won't be ordering from them anymore!

The Jerk chicken was falling off the bone and through my fingers it was so tender. I usually skip the veggies after a bite or two because other places put alot on your plate. I actually wish now I had ordered the dinner to get more sautéed veggies. The rice & peas were on point as well, very flavorful. It was a pleasant surprise that I liked the things I was accustomed to skipping at other places. I can definitely cross some other spots off my list now that I have found weakness for sweetness. I can't wait to go back for some curry goat. For me that will be the tell all, because ever since I was put on to curry goat it's all I order. Definitely impressed! My only critique is that the atmosphere was kind of dry. You'd think a place named after a song would maybe have some music. That alone would make a world of difference. Smiling doesn't hurt either. read more

Disclaimer: I ordered from UberEats. Curry chicken, rice and peas, and cabbage. Caribbean basics. I am strong supporter of black businesses, but this was among the most disgusting food I've ever had. The chicken was overcooked and flavorless. I could barely chew it. The rice was crunchy. I didn't eat it; I threw it away. A waste of $20. read more

THIS RESTAURANT DEFINITELY NEEDS TO CLOSE THEIR DOOR!! The quality of the food gets worse every time I try to support them. Their customer service is the worse. The woman behind the counter seem miserable. Even if you as a customer crack a joke you won't get any type of response let alone a smile. My husband and I ordered two entrees him, Goat Roti and me, curry chicken both with peas and rice we ordered an additional two beef patty and coco bread with two cola champagne. This should have been our ultimate caribbean date night but it was ruined not only by the thick air of misery walking into this establishment but also because we did not check our order upon leaving and realized it was wrong once we got home. I called back to discuss that I received a jerk chicken dinner instead of the curry chicken. The lady who answered immediately replied, "Mam you ordered the jerk chicken" This is impossible since I can not have such a spicy meal due to my acid reflux and I know this. My husband overhears and says "babe I heard you distinctly say curry chicken and she did not give us a receipt." I asked her to check what was rung up and with out hesitation or time to look at anything she says, "You ordered the jerk chicken and that's what's on the receipt." At this point I realized there wasn't going to be a compromise for the money waisted, but I still would enjoy my beef patty and coco bread..... Food Review: Both the patty and coco bread were cold and I had to warm them up in the microwave to make it edible. My husband's roti had no flavor and was terribly dry to the point he says "let me eat your jerk chicken, he spit it out because dry and tasteless he said " this is not even jerk it taste like brown stew chicken. I'm even more disappointed in the fact that the customer service when I called was curt and defensive. Almost like they are use to getting this type of call. UNACCEPTABLE!! The chef that opened this restaurant is obviously absent from his establishment and whoever he has working for him obviously doesn't care. Go to Negril instead they might not be authentic, but the Jamaicans here won't give you the caribbean experience either. read more

A few weeks ago I had the chance to visit some friends in Maryland, and this also meant the chance to try some new restaurants! Upon arrival we checked Yelp to peep the local food scene as we were all hungry from the road trip. We stumbled upon a few Jamaican restaurants and chose Weakness For Sweetness, and to say the least I am not disappointed. Jamaican food isn't that common where I am from, so it was refreshing to try something different. On the way up to the front counter, there was a cooler with fresh juices with ginger, and I wish I could have taken so many of these home with me. My boyfriend thought they were a bit heavy with the ginger, but I'm welcoming of that. For dinner I chose the curry vegetables. It came with a shredded cabbage side, rice and beans, and a few plantains. One of the shortcomings for me was that they were less than generous with the plantains, because the few that I did get were delicious. The rest of the portion sizes were gigantic, and if you reference my picture of my meal, which was a small veggie curry, it certainly wasn't small. My boyfriend got an order of the oxtail, and he was happy with his choice. We did agree that overall that the food could've been seasoned more, but it was still pretty good. With a name like Weakness For Sweetness, you're probably wondering where the sweets are. The front counter housed some beautifully made cakes and we had to grab a slice for dessert. We chose a Bavarian crème slice and a sweet potato slice that left us wishing we had seconds. From the large portions to the great cakes, this is a stop worth making if you are craving some authentic Jamaican grub. read more

I really dislike patronizing a business where the representatives are rude af. It's really sad because we try to support the neighborhood cafes and restaurants but the rudeness is not acceptable especially during the times when yesterdays price is not today's price. Whyyy did I wait so long to finally come here?? OMG! Ok let's get the little things out the way first. Service was GREAT!! They were friendly, nice and funny!! It was a good time for the 10 minutes I was in there. The restaurant is small but clean and cozy!! I was also surprised that everything was still in stock. I came in around 8:30 and they close at 9:30. I was so sure they would tell me they were out of everything but they had everything I wanted!! I also didn't have to wait long for my food to be ready. Now the food!! I wanted to order everything and I kinda did, oops #notsorry! I ordered a small oxtail dinner, large jerk wingettes dinner, coco bread, beef patties and carrot cake. Don't judge me, hubby and I wanted to EAT! Oxtail- I. Don't. Know. What they put on those oxtails but they are GOOD!! Mmm!! They were tender and very flavorful. For a small, the meal was definitely large and filling. Jerk wingettes- these had a different taste than other jerk wings I have. It was not a bad thing, I enjoyed it. But the chicken was a tad bit, just a tad bit dry. All in all, still good Coco bread- O. M. G. DEEEELICIOUS. It was sooo warm, actually HOT and just dang good. I'm mad I only got one. It seemed freshly made. Meat patties- delicious. Carrot cake- I HAD to get a dessert since this is their specialty. It was pretty good, Yum!! The rice and beans and cabbage that came with the dinners were also good. The cabbage was crunchy but could use a tad bit of salt. Needless to say, but I'll be back. Duh! read more

I can tell that they have changed cooks. I went there the other day, and food was utterly disgusting. I received the smallest oxtails that I have ever seen. There was no meat on them. I was basically give a container of rice and peas. The long potatoes were not cooked all the way through and hard. The plaintians were hard, and not cooked properly. The food was aesthetically un-pleasing. The original people must have sold the place, or changed cooks. I use to get food from there all the time, and it was great! However, I will never go back. My daughter had the curry chicken. She said that her food was disgusting as well. I paid $45 for slop. read more

The food is good, and their specials are usually reasonable. The customer service is just terrible. They don't acknowledge your presence, and multi-tasking is just not a capability they choose to use. The decor. is outdated and needs improvement. Pretty darn good! Now I will say this, they don't have the best jerk chicken on this side of town; to me it was a bit salty and not as juicy and tender as I would have liked. But the Roti is untouchable (a nod to the jerk and the brown stew chicken ). A small dinner here will cost you $8.95-meat and 2 sides. They also have a plentiful lunch menu and are doing wraps with their Caribbean meats. Sides such as the rice and peas along with the cabbage were fresh and had good flavor. To be honest in the past I did not remember the sides being so fresh. I hope this change is consistent and I did not just catch them on a good day. And let me add they have an extensive vegetarian menu and a few fish selections as well. The staff is pretty nice, however, as I've witnessed, if you come in with an attitude you will get it served right back. These are'nt real kissy smiley take the high road type of people. You can expect to wait about 10 minutes if you don't call your order in ahead of time. The desserts are their real specialty! A hard one to master is black cake and theirs is one of the best. It's moist and rich with bits of real current, and topped with white icing. The banana bread $1.75 per slice, also very moist, a mild sweetness, aaand it contains no nuts, which is rare for banana bread. Just so you know, no two slices are created equal, so you best believe I searched through that bread basket until I found the biggest slice of them all. Ha! (I'm shameless). read more

I've been eating here for about 5 years. The food seems to go through phases when it's better some times than others. It's REALLY good lately. The baked goods are always wonderful, and while the service isn't in your face over the top friendly, it's laid back friendly, IMO. Maybe those are perks of being a loyal customer. Pretty good! I understand what another review said about this place having a nice energy, it definitely does! Very welcoming place : ) The food was yummy! The hot sauce was a great surprise! If you know what Caribbean hot sauce traditionally tastes like, you will not be disappointed with what they offer here! But you've got to ask for it, they keep it behind the counter ; ) as they should! It's hotttttt! I allllllmost left without grabbing something sweet, which would have really been silly. Though their name is "Weakness for Sweetness" the display case was not the best advertisement of this. But I figured I'd give it a try too.
