This was my first time at chicho's chicken. I didn't know this place was in the area. The staff was very friendly. I had a half of chicken meal and string beans that was absolutely delicious. Wow, when you're hungry, everything sounds amazing! And since I was in the mood for something different, I decided to order from here. I used DoorDash to place my order, and one of the reviews had me sold because it mentioned one of my favorite Peruvian dishes... lomo saltado! When the dish arrived, I was blown away by the presentation and the fragrant smell. They definitely didn't skimp on the steak, onions, and other ingredients. However, when I took a bite, I was disappointed to find that it lacked a lot of flavor. I should have gone with my gut and not ordered it at all! Other establishments that I've had this dish at never miss the mark! I also ordered the 1/4 chicken dark with fried rice, black beans, and string beans. Unfortunately, it was a bit blah. The sides were easily a 2.5 out of 10, and the chicken had no charcoal flavor whatsoever! I was really hoping for something decent after the lomo meal. I frequently the Starbucks next door several mornings a week, so I've been eying this place since the "coming soon" signs went up. It's definitely been worth the wait!! Finally had the chance to try them to tonight when my housemate suggested Peruvian chicken for dinner. I'm not a huge fan DC Charcoal Chicken (the usual go to for us for chicken) and remembered this place had recently finally opened. Their yucca portions are generous, the sauces are great and the chicken is so well cooked. They even got me to like white meat! I find it's typically too dry at many places but Chicho's was super tender and juicy! Very impressed. I also accidentally ordered pinto beans instead of the black beans my housemate wanted and they were super accommodating even tho the mistake was on my end.
