Kabrit | Goat

I've heard some good things about this restaurant and wanted to give them a try. The DMV doesn't have enough options in terms of Haitian food like NY or Miami, so it's a treat when another one opens in the area. Francois' is a takeout restaurant in the Baltimore area that serves up some really good food. I drove up from Laurel one early afternoon to grab a plate. I've settled on two dishes. The fried turkey wings with a side of white rice, black bean sauce, and fried plantains and an order of kabrit (goat), black mushroom rice, and fried plantians. I wanted to try to mac & cheese, but I believe I came too early in the day and it wasn't ready yet. Everything tasted delicious. The plantains and proteins were prepared fresh while I waited and the rice from each meal was evenly cooked through. Each meal comes with a side of gravy and pikliz( spicy cabbage). The pikliz could have been a little more spicy but was still good. I thoroughly enjoyed my food and plan to return whenever in the Baltimore area.

Where my Haitians at? I found out about Francois Caribbean Cuisine on DoorDash. I have never been in person so can't speak to the ambiance of the restaurant. But I will say their to go packaging is satisfactory and the food is amazing. Whenever I order my food always comes as requested and well packaged. I always order the Haitian turkey with the rice and beans. It comes with two to three pieces of sweet plantains and pikliz on the side. I can't handle spicy food so I love that their pikliz is mild. It's the right amount of acidity to add flavor to the turkey. I'm Haitian so I can confirm that we are very critical when it comes to others cooking and this place hits the mark every time. Oh and the pricing and the portions are reasonable. Go check them out.

It is a challenge to find authentic, finger-licking Haitian food in Baltimore. A friend recommended this to my Haitian husband after seeing a review on Instagram so we stopped by after church, shortly after opening. In retrospect, we should have pre-ordered for pick-up but we did want to see the space before we ordered food. They were out of white rice, black bean sauce and patty which was disappointing but the fact that the food was delicious means we will come back later for those items. We ordered chicken, peas and rice, djon djon, grio, plantain, and macaroni. All were very good and familiar to us. My husband was pleased. He said the service was just ok - they were close to move as there was only one young man working the counter, but he was apologetic and offered my husband a courtesy beverage. We are pleased to have a new Haitian restaurant within 30 minutes of our home for when we miss that home cookin. Stay around please!

Griot Fried Pork (Aug 2024)

I have eaten from Francois Caribbean Cuisine twice this year and have mixed feelings about my experiences. The first time I ordered delivery and didn't get a chance to try their Mac and cheese because they failed to deliver it without resolution. This time I went to the location to order. When I got there, I was a little confused because they seemed like they were closed. The lights were off and it was extremely HOT. They had a large fan in the corner blowing air around. In February, I tried the griot fried pork, it was absolutely delicious. The meat was freshly made and the accompanying rice and beans and plantains were perfectly cooked. However, during my second visit, I was disappointed to find that the griot was not fresh and the rice was overly salty. Additionally, the Mac and cheese barely had any cheese and was probably made the day before. I was disappointed with the lack of freshness and flavor in my dishes this time around. I hope that the restaurant can work on consistency in their food quality to ensure that all customers have a positive dining experience.

Decided to try this place after seeing it online a few times. It's a small place but the decor was the 1st thing to catch my eye. I love how Haiti was represented through the art. I ordered online and Chef Richard had my food waiting when I arrived. We chatted a bit and he was friendly, told me a little about the restaurant's story. I ordered the stew chicken with cabbage and mushroom rice. The food was flavorful and met my expectations.

I was super excited to try this location. The first time was definitely a charm! Came close to what I usually get when back home in NY. The second time I visited this location I was quite disappointed. Came when they just opened with no worries about waiting. I was given food that tasted from the day before. The rice was hard and didn't smell/taste fresh. The legume seemed sour like too acidic. Giving it a while before I return.

I'm so happy I don't have to drive to Montgomery County for proper Haitian food. Not Haitian fusion. Not Caribbean general - no disrespect. This is TRUE Haitian Cusine. When you walk in to the establishment, you are automatically notice that everything is cooked and prepared fresh. Busy during the lunch hour so I had a little wait but it was worth it. You can dine in - most patrons just takeout. Diri la gou! So much Haitian pride in the space - I can't wait to come back.

Was the spirit of my grand-mère back in the kitchen?!? Every bite took me back to her table and I'm SO grateful to know there's AUTHENTIC Haitian Cuisine in Baltimore City! The griot, the diri djon-djon, and the pikliz (although I understand it couldn't be spicy spicy) were AMAZING. When I come back I'm definitely grabbing some patties. Service was quick and honest. Ambiance is mainly take-out style, but with the success of their food, I can't wait for an entire restaurant! I'm so proud that Francois is bringing good, down home Haitian food to Baltimore, and looking forward to catering with them in the future! Wooooy!

This place was insanely good. I ordered the chicken lunch special. The sauce was delicious too! I'll definitely be back to try something else on the menu. They had good music playing inside and the lemonade flavors were great. The pudding was just what I needed too

Haitian black rice, goat and pikliz with banan peze

Haven't had the pleasure to visit in person but I ordered on Door Dash this past week. I had goat and black rice. If you know you know. Haitian rice is the best. Sadly the Haitian domestic rice market was decimated as part of concessions demanded by Bill Clinton to restore Bertrand Aristede to the presidency after the first coup. Alas that is a discussion better saved for another forum. Black rice or diri djon djon is a Haitian specialty and Francois does it justice. Savory, fulfilling, and incomparable . The goat was was a perfect complement. My criticism is that they could be more generous with portion size of the meat. I called to place an order after a glitch in Uber Eats said they weren't taking orders at the time. The very helpful man on the other end of the line directed me to Door Dash which worked out. My disappointment was that they were out of legume that I ordered as a side and unilaterally decided to substitute it with macaroni and cheese but the driver called to inform me and I declined. Yet I was still billed for the item. May seem minor to some but with all the fees it really adds up. Anyway this is a great place for one to be introduced to the delights of Haitian cuisine.

This was my first experience with Haitian food but it certainly will not be my last. I saw this restaurant yesterday on my Yelp homepage and booked marked it. Today one of my college friends text me out of nowhere asking if I had heard of this place and if I wanted to try it out. When the universe speaks you have to listen. I got here a first and went inside to decide what I wanted. It smelled amazing. The staff spoke as soon as I came in and told me to let me know when I was ready. I was torn between the fried pork shoulder, fried turkey, and the red snapper. I asked about the fried pork and the gentleman assisting me said it was really good and is the most popular dish. They offer black rice, rice and peas, or white rice with black bean sauce. I opted for black rice as I heard of it but this was my first time having it as an option. My order was fresh out the fryer a few mins later. I first tried the black rice. My eyes closed after the first bite. Yellow and fried rice are second tier in comparison. The flavor was wonderful and the rice was cooked well. Next I tried the pork shoulder. It was so well seasoned and flavorful. I tried the pork with the piklez and it was a really good bite. The piklez have a nice kick and paired well with the pork pieces. The food was clearly made with love. Everything together was better than I anticipated but I honestly didn't know what to expect or what to compare it to; it is its own beautiful thing. We don't have the most food options in Baltimore but it is nice to see something different, delicious, and reasonably priced. I had plenty left overs for a snack later. I'm truly already anticipating my next visit.

Eli

Eli took such great care of us (outstanding customer service, attention to detail & food preparation). The food was amazing, both Haitian & Caribbean dishes (down to the cola champagne). I will definitely frequent this establishment and so should you!

Just a note that the food does take a while to come out so if you're ordering with a large group make sure to pass the menu around beforehand so you can order when you sit down. We started with the fried food platter Friday platter and everything was delicious. It came with plantains and okra and fries. The entrees are quite large and if you wanted you could split them as well. I got the stew chicken with rice and plantain and it was extremely flavorful and great comfort food. The waiter we had did not speak a lot of English so I think some things were kind of lost in translation when we ordered, but overall my group and I were satisfied.

To me the food to me was fairly average as far as haitian food goes and I was missing my favorites like griot and marinade, but it is in no way bad! My friend and I definitely enjoyed and cleared our plates! With there not being too many haitian food options in the area, I would definitely recommend this place to someone looking to enjoy a simple haitian dinner in a welcoming environment. Much respect to the owner for shining a light on haitian cuisine in MD! Also, as a tip I would Be sure to check out the menu before going as certain things like the black rice is only served on the weekends.

The griot pork is what I always get, most times along with another entree to try out. As an entree I usually get the rice and beans (delicious flavor rice that sells out quick), 2 fried green plantain, a small condiment of "picklie" pickled slaw to add a kick, a small condiment of gravy and a small portion of macaroni salad. I've also tried the whole snapper and Ox tail, white rice with black bean sauce, and the black rice. Honestly everything has great flavor. My faves are the pork griot and ox tail. My only reason for not giving 5 star is that for the price, the portion size has not always been consistent and if they run out of a side I have not gotten it equally replaced with another option. I hope they improve in that area. Other than that, I highly recommend the flavorful dishes.
