So I originally gave it 3 stars to support. Now I will give it one star. Hold on for the ride. They abruptly stop taking orders on all delivery apps often, whenever they want. No rhyme or reason, so when you're in the mood and see it available, just know in the process, it'll shit down. On their social media they frequently post and showcase non Haitian people raving about their food. That's fine, however HAITIANS are who asked for the restaurant and it's HAITIANS who know how it's supposed to taste. I've posted and have been incredibly supportive of their restaurant, the minute I left a comment stating that they need to call their food "Haitian" and not "creole" cuisine because it waters down our culture, they blocked me. The DMV doesn't have enough options in terms of Haitian food like NY or Miami, so it's a treat when another one opens in the area. Francois' is a takeout restaurant in the Baltimore area that serves up some really good food. I drove up from Laurel one early afternoon to grab a plate. I've settled on two dishes. The fried turkey wings with a side of white rice, black bean sauce, and fried plantains and an order of kabrit (goat), black mushroom rice, and fried plantians. I wanted to try to mac & cheese, but I believe I came too early in the day and it wasn't ready yet. Everything tasted delicious. The plantains and proteins were prepared fresh while I waited and the rice from each meal was evenly cooked through. Each meal comes with a side of gravy and pikliz( spicy cabbage). Where my Haitians at? I found out about Francois Caribbean Cuisine on DoorDash. I have never been in person so can't speak to the ambiance of the restaurant. But I will say their to go packaging is satisfactory and the food is amazing. Whenever I order my food always comes as requested and well packaged. I always order the Haitian turkey with the rice and beans. It comes with two to three pieces of sweet plantains and pikliz on the side. I can't handle spicy food so I love that their pikliz is mild. It's the right amount of acidity to add flavor to the turkey. I'm Haitian so I can confirm that we are very critical when it comes to others cooking and this place hits the mark every time. It is a challenge to find authentic, finger-licking Haitian food in Baltimore. A friend recommended this to my Haitian husband after seeing a review on Instagram so we stopped by after church, shortly after opening. In retrospect, we should have pre-ordered for pick-up but we did want to see the space before we ordered food. They were out of white rice, black bean sauce and patty which was disappointing but the fact that the food was delicious means we will come back later for those items. We ordered chicken, peas and rice, djon djon, grio, plantain, and macaroni. All were very good and familiar to us. My husband was pleased. He said the service was just ok - they were close to move as there was only one young man working the counter, but he was apologetic and offered my husband a courtesy beverage. Best of both worlds Haitians food is like a mix between Jamaican and African food. Haitians are masters of rice dishes ,jollof be it Nigerian, Ghanian or the original wollof rice from Senegal doesn't compare. I have eaten from Francois Caribbean Cuisine twice this year and have mixed feelings about my experiences. The first time I ordered delivery and didn't get a chance to try their Mac and cheese because they failed to deliver it without resolution. This time I went to the location to order. When I got there, I was a little confused because they seemed like they were closed. The lights were off and it was extremely HOT. They had a large fan in the corner blowing air around. In February, I tried the griot fried pork, it was absolutely delicious. The meat was freshly made and the accompanying rice and beans and plantains were perfectly cooked. However, during my second visit, I was disappointed to find that the griot was not fresh and the rice was overly salty. Additionally, the Mac and cheese barely had any cheese and was probably made the day before. I was disappointed with the lack of freshness and flavor in my dishes this time around. Haven't had the pleasure to visit in person but I ordered on Door Dash this past week. I had goat and black rice. If you know you know. Haitian rice is the best. Sadly the Haitian domestic rice market was decimated as part of concessions demanded by Bill Clinton to restore Bertrand Aristede to the presidency after the first coup. Alas that is a discussion better saved for another forum. Black rice or diri djon djon is a Haitian specialty and Francois does it justice. Savory, fulfilling, and incomparable . The goat was was a perfect complement. My criticism is that they could be more generous with portion size of the meat. I called to place an order after a glitch in Uber Eats said they weren't taking orders at the time. The very helpful man on the other end of the line directed me to Door Dash which worked out. My disappointment was that they were out of legume that I ordered as a side and unilaterally decided to substitute it with macaroni and cheese but the driver called to inform me and I declined. Yet I was still billed for the item. May seem minor to some but with all the fees it really adds up. This was my first experience with Haitian food but it certainly will not be my last. I saw this restaurant yesterday on my Yelp homepage and booked marked it. Today one of my college friends text me out of nowhere asking if I had heard of this place and if I wanted to try it out. When the universe speaks you have to listen. I got here a first and went inside to decide what I wanted. It smelled amazing. The staff spoke as soon as I came in and told me to let me know when I was ready. I was torn between the fried pork shoulder, fried turkey, and the red snapper. I asked about the fried pork and the gentleman assisting me said it was really good and is the most popular dish. They offer black rice, rice and peas, or white rice with black bean sauce. I opted for black rice as I heard of it but this was my first time having it as an option. My order was fresh out the fryer a few mins later. I first tried the black rice. My eyes closed after the first bite. Yellow and fried rice are second tier in comparison. The flavor was wonderful and the rice was cooked well. Next I tried the pork shoulder. It was so well seasoned and flavorful. I tried the pork with the piklez and it was a really good bite. The piklez have a nice kick and paired well with the pork pieces. The food was clearly made with love. Everything together was better than I anticipated but I honestly didn't know what to expect or what to compare it to; it is its own beautiful thing. We don't have the most food options in Baltimore but it is nice to see something different, delicious, and reasonably priced. I had plenty left overs for a snack later. I saw on IG that a new Haitian restaurant had opened downtown so I added it to my list of places to checkout. I looked over the menu and it looked interesting. Yesterday was the day I was free and in the area so I decided to check it out. I placed my order and headed there. I arrived at the place and the cook let me know it would be 2 minutes for the mac and cheese to be ready. 2 minutes later my order was bagged and ready to go. The owner, cashier and remaining staff were very friendly and gave me a chance to sample some of their specialties. I sampled the Griot and Goat. I went to the Goat, since I always default to Griot. Each meal comes with rice, plantains, pickliz and sauce. The proteins are fresh and made to order. For the rice they have: Haitian black rice, rice and beans and white rice. I am very familiar with Haitian food and this DID NOT MISS. very FLAVORFUL and WELL SEASON throughly from the rice to the goat every morsel was seamed to the molecular level. We ordered: 2 Fried Goat entrees each with a side of banan peze/tostones (double fried green plantain that's flattened in between both frying periods) 1 side of Haitian mac & cheese 1 entree had white rice the other had diri dion djon (black mushroom rice but with the physical mushrooms later removed after it's done cooking and lending its dark color to the dish-hopefully I'm remembering the explanation correctly when I asked what it was). 2 garnishes: Seasoned black bean sauce (or maybe it was some of the diri dion djon sauce). Spicy pickled cabbage, white onions, same bell peppers. Verdict: Husband loved everything except the spicy pickled veggies (not a fan of too much spiciness). He gave a rare A+ rating. I loved everything. It was all well seasoned and certainly made with love. We both really enjoy goat meat in general and at Francois' it was tender on the inside and well crispy on the outside. *chef's kiss* Service was great. Food was fried fresh to order. We'll definitely be back to continue supporting this fine establishment and hope it continues to be a thriving business! The food was soooo good! My fiancé had the oxtails with the rice and beans and plaintains. He said they were not the best he ever had but not the worst. Season perfect and juicy just a little fatty. The rice and peas were perfect no changes needed there. I had the Red snapper and it was perfectly seasoned. The fish was so tasty! I almost went back and go some more the next day. Now my only complaint was my rice was hard like it was old or not cooked properly it wasn't all of it it but a good majority. I tried the Cabrit and Griot today with the Riz Collé and the Riz Djon-djon. The meat is tender and the rice flavorful ( don't forget to ask for the sauce to put over the rice). They fried it in front the second I ordered it so it was fresh. The Picklese (Pikliz en Créole) was also fresh. It only needed to be spicier. I will be back for the Poisson, si Dieu veut. There were three people working there at the time and they were helpful and friendly. They guy who attended me gave me great recommendations. Whenever I crave home food I either take the drive to Philly or Silver Spring so I was happy to hear that a Haitian restaurant opened up nearby. The staff is super friendly and the food was really good. I had the fried pork and plantains and my husband had the Haitian Cheese steak. The pork and plantains are always my go to.
