Came last night with my family for dinner. There were 5 of us, only had to wait 15 minutes for a table. Our waitress was very attentive and sweet. We started off with biscuits for the table- they were very warm and not too dry- served with a spicy jam & some honey butter. They were sooooo delicious. My main meal was the smoked fried chicken, it is A LOT of chicken lol I got the spicy dry rub on the side to try and it was really good- would recommend trying it if you like a little kick with your chicken. For sides I got the Brussel sprouts which have bacon, goat cheese and some type of nut in them. They were really good and flavorful. I also had the hush puppies which are served with the same butter that came with the biscuits. They were nice and crisp but not over cooked. I recommend both sides. My family seemed to enjoy their dishes as well. My friend had the burger with pork belly on it, my father had the Cajun seafood pasta & my mother had the blackberry thighs. Overall everything tasted great. We got dessert to go, I had bread pudding which I later ate- and it was phenomenal. The sauce they serve with it really brings it together nicely. I walked in, ordered to go at the side counter this time. I ordered the Southern Fish and chips. This came with two catfish filets, fries and a little bit of coleslaw. It took about 10 minutes to get my food and I was on my way. I drove about 15 minutes away. My food was still pretty hot and fresh. Blackberry Chipotle Glazed Thighs This is my go to item. The sauce is fantastic. The thighs are giant and it's usually got a crispy outside with a juicy moist inside. Although this last time I went, it seems like the chicken was reheated and not freshly made to order for my to go order. Brussels Sprouts Brussels sprouts are beyond their prime, as they smelled and tasted old. Gave three stars as they are typically on point, here's hoping this visit was a fluke. Julep never misses. The worst thing about this place is the long wait during peak times but it's always worth it. I've never had a bad thing on the menu. It is the type of place where you want to keep eating even if you're full. They have a large variety of southern specialities. They have the BEST hush puppies in the area, if not all of Maryland. We stopped here on our way to spend the day in Annapolis. It was lunch time on a Wednesday when we visited, and I was surprised they didn't have a lunch menu. We got biscuits to share. The biscuits were buttery and fluffy. I got the chicken fried steak with green beans and mashed potatoes, because our server recommended the dish. I really liked the chicken fried steak. One of my girlfriends is from Annapolis. Born and raised. She introduced me to this restaurant. She wanted to catch an early lunch. I bought up the menu and reviews and said why not. Those fried green tomatoes had me intrigued. So glad that I tried it. It was topped with a sauce and the perfect sizable shrimp. It was very good and cooked and breaded perfectly. Our server checked on us regularly. I wasn't that hungry when we arrived so I stuck with the appetizer. With a refreshing glass of lemonade. I would love to return to check out their extended menu. When we last came to Julep, it was fresh off of visit from a nearby winery, and it was some place we stumbled on. This time our visit was intentional, but who knew it would take us 4 yrs to return. It wasn't because of the food, that's for sure - today we had the fish & chips, fried green tomatoes, southern egg rolls, beet salad, sampler, Waffled Pig, and flash fried chicken entree. Forget what we ate...I can't wait to go back! Rarely do I get excited about a menu, but Julep is different. I found it hard to choose the Waffled Pig during my first visit because everything looks good. We started out with appetizers and got the Big Bang Shrimp and Southern Egg Rolls. Shrimp were probably overdone slightly but the taste was incredible. Egg rolls were extremely tasty. Portions for entrees were large and everything was great. We can say we gave it a try. Took it on good faith that the food is good and service is 5 stars however we received mediocre food and 3 star service. The burnt ends plate was tasteless. Overdone, stringy and tough we were disappointed with this plate. One of us got the sweet potatoes and they were mushy and definitely not fresh. The other ordered Cole slaw and that was ok. This is my first time in the service was good. The waiter (Antonio) was very attentive and found out about my mom's dietary restrictions. We probably ordered a little too much food. I always like to try wings, especially if they are stated in the menu as award winning wings! I ordered the old baby wings and they were OK. I also ordered the pulled chicken sandwich with a side of collard greens, which was delicious The biscuits are incredible with the honey butter! And my mom enjoyed her fried fish (catfish). We also tried the fried green tomatoes with shrimp and they were good as well. I ordered iced tea half sweet half unsweetened and it was perfect! Everything came out hot! It's a great place to come with family. They do have a bar in front where people were watching the game. Looks like they have a great bourbon menu as well with specialty cocktails. Overall I had a really great visit at Julep! it's a fairly big building with tons of seating options and nice ambiance. I could see it as a nice date night or early family dinner for those with little ones. We had a fantastic waiter who was alert to our needs, fun to chat with, and really insightful. His service alone truly deserved 5 stars. Now on to the food - we ordered the fried green tomatoes with shrimp. The $13 price tag for 3 fried green tomatoes was a bit steep IMO but it was delicious! They were flavorful and cooked just right despite the small serving size. For our entree, we both ordered the pork steak and our waiter said it's a fan favorite! After taking one bite, I could tell why! It was so tender, delicious, and big! I ordered a side of potatoes which was basic (and possibly powder potatoes). If you order this dish with potatoes, get the gravy on the side since the pork steak has a "sauce" that may clash with gravy. Lastly, I ordered the warm bread pudding and it was good. The hazelnut spread added a nice nutty flavor that taste delicious with the bread pudding. The only "Miss" for me was that it was serviced with basic apple sauce with a few apple chunks in it. It didn't really enhance the bread pudding taste and seemed like an aftermath addition. All in all - It's a solid place to grab food! But docking it a star for some (minor) misses along the way. And in my opinion, it was better than the sister location the Hideaway! read more

Everything we ordered--from the regular and seasonal blueberry biscuits to the pulled pork benedict and hangover cure omelet--was cooked fresh to order and arrived hot and flavorful. Everyone at the table commented on how much they enjoyed their meals. I especially loved my pineapple mimosa--refreshing and the perfect complement to brunch. It's a much bigger restaurant than I realized at first. I started with the cinnamon roll, which was AMAZING! It's made with their biscuit dough and topped with cream cheese brown butter icing. Seriously, it's the best cinnamon roll I've had! They have a pretty good cocktail menu, including adult slushies and several bourbon drinks. I decided to go with a margarita, which was fresh and well balanced. I ordered the chicken and waffles for my meal, which comes with pecan-smoked fried chicken. The chicken was super flavorful, and not your typical fried chicken. It comes with 4 pieces of chicken, which I think made the $20 price tag well worth it. And if you're claustrophobic, good luck - the seating arrangement is so crowded you'll feel like you're dining in a sardine can. All jokes aside because I'm sure some folks probably really enjoy this spot. So there is a bright side, it's in a great location! So, if you're planning to eat elsewhere and just want a place to rest your feet, Julep's your spot. Otherwise, adhere to my recommendation... I always wanted to eat here so i was glad my daughter chose this place for Sunday brunch. We were greeted right away by the hostess who also made sure to let me and my son know that our party of 6 would not be seated until at least 3 people were present. Luckily the rest of the group was walking in as she spoke it. There is a bar and a small seating area to the left of the host stand. To the right of the host stand is a much larger dining area. The ambience is family friendly and the wood tables, chairs and floors are a dark brown wood. Our server was very polite and our food came out quickly. We ordered drinks, appetizers and entrees for brunch. The menu is not extensive but just right to not have to decide over too much. I tried their fried chicken and waffles and got a brunch old fashioned as a drink. We did get biscuits for the table which were just divine. They do biscuits very well and the hot pepper jelly was so good. The honey butter on the biscuit was delicious too. They do know how to make a good waffle. My chicken was a bit dry (the breast) but i did enjoy the pecan flavor of the chicken. I liked that they place a whole thigh, wing, leg and breast on top of your waffle. It was a good old fashioned but the piece of bacon in the drink could have stayed out. I would love to go back and try other menu items. My daughter loved her pot pie and my sons breakfast burger was good. He filled up on the cinnamon roll and didn't touch his burger so that was mine to enjoy later in the day. They had seasoned potatoes with the burger snd they were seasoned well. My nephew also said they seasoned his fries very well in the fish and chips. My son did not enjoy his shrimp and grits and thought it was too much sauce and he didn't like the sausage. He's just used to the way his mama makes shrimp and grits. They were a little slower on the service because they were in happy hour and packed. We got the crabby fries at happy hour prices which was nice. Crabby fries were amazing. Little cute Waters as well. They are known for their smoked fried chicken highly recommended it. It is phenomenal! I got it with a little bit of spicy rub to give it just a little bit of kick. It has wonderful depth of flavor and was so juicy and tender, really unique to the area haven't seen anything like that near Annapolis. The mashed potatoes and gravy side that I got was a good texture and kind of reminded me a little bit of KFC mashed potatoes. The brisket melt was good and the smoked pork on. Based our decision to try Julep on the positive reviews. However, we must have chosen an off day for the kitchen and staff. We ordered the pulled pork plate with red potato salad and cole slaw as well as the burnt end plate with yams. The pulled pork was extremely dry and tasteless. Just a lot of salt. The burnt end plate consisted of dried out stringy chewy bites of meat on top of paste like mashed potatoes that tasted like they were made from instant potatoes. The yams were mushy and probably canned. The service lacked checking in to refill beverages. Overall it was visit that failed and we won't return. read more
