My wife and I like diners, so when in Annapolis today we took the opportunity to dine at Chick & Ruth's Delly. My wife craved crabcakes and got the 1/2 pound crabcake, while I craved fried chicken so I got the chicken wing platter, which comes with 2 sides. I opted for an upgrade to the crab Mac n cheese, and a mashed potato and gravy. The crabcake was good, seasoned with old bay., although I found it a little dry I consider it still very good. My chicken wings were exactly what I wanted, the crispy flavorful coating was perfect, and the wings were juicy. The crab Mac n cheese was homemade with a good cheese pull, and full of flavor from the crab and old bay. The mashed potato was smooth, and the gravy was savory and delicious. Overall, it was a very good lunch that hit the spot. The price of the crab was a bit pricy but that is dependent on the price of fresh crab, and their crab was fresh. The chicken wings was to much for one person when you consider it comes with 2 sides, so needless to say we were very full and satisfied at the end of the meal. Service was great, and attentive. The atmosphere was typical diner style with eclectic things on the walls mostly news articles about the restaurant and the Man vs Food episode featuring the restaurant. This is a must try for anyone visiting or near Annapolis. read more

I make special trips to visit Chick & Ruth's Delly! I always get the crab cakes because they are amazing. Great size, minimal filler, delicious taste...everything you look for in a good crab cake. I've also had their fries, fried shrimp, pickles, and Caesar salad. All good, but the crab cake is the standout. The space is very small so seating is tight. You are going to feel cramped, but embrace the ambiance. I've always have excellent service. Friendly waiters who give great recommendations and work quickly. read more

Iconic "Delly" in Annapolis Great for a late dinner...or lunch after church on Sunday. I went there on a random evening and the place was not crowded. Service was a little slow ..but "very attentive" and kind. I chose to sit in one of the first floor booths which are tight but "diner cozy." Ordered the classic Reuben + fries The server looked me in the eye and took time with me ! Thev reuben? Best I've ever had! Thanks C&R for a perfect end to my day! read more

OK, this is an old school Classic Diner! Orange walls and funny little booths, tight seating, so if that is not your thing maybe look elsewhere but you're missing out on some good food and service. Our waitress was great. She came with some slice pickles and asked if we wanted them. The pickles are good. The Crab Benedict was so tasty with the sweet and a little spicy crab and some good potatoes. Others had the fried shrimp and a Ruben and were very happy. A fun place with good food. But don't miss the crab cake! read more

Took a day trip to visit Annapolis, our fist time. We stopped in here for lunch. The diner looks really runned down with a wacky color and decor. However we did have a great waitress, Melanie! She told us what was great good and not so good on the menu. I ordered #18, my lunch buddy ordered a a cheese steak sub. An additional $1.99 for toppings on subs so three toppings were added and fries was also extra so we didn't order any. Unfortunately the sub came with very sparse steak , a big lettuce and two tomatoes slices and a smear of mayo. While my sandwich was on toast but had a lot of corned beef in it. Melanie noticed right away he wasn't happy with the sub! Well he ended up ordering a pastrami sandwich and that was similarly piled as well as my sandwich was. He happily enjoyed it!! Just wish fries were included like so many other places you order a full meal sandwich and fries and you don't pay extra for lettuce , tomatoe and condiments. read more

M'eh. This place has been on my list for years but this was my first visit. I was expecting so much more. More space. The tables and booths are very tight. That said, I didn't feel interrupted by the conversation of the folks next to us but the guy's elbow bumped me a couple times. We were basically shoulder to shoulder with the barrier between our food. More food. Given their penchant for super sized foods, I thought the default sandwich would be bigger. It wasn't bad but it was kind of skimpy. And it didn't come with anything. I got the jumbo fries and my nephew and I finished them with no trouble. More flavor. Yeah, it wasn't bad, but it wasn't great! A Reuben should be really powerful with all the different flavors but this turkey Reuben was a bit muted. I joked that I would try to challenge menu but I would need to taste the food first to make sure I liked it. I think I could have met the challenge but I don't think I would have enjoyed it. read more

I have visited this location several times and will continue to! While street parking is pretty slim, there is a parking garage the block behind the restaurant. I have had a bunch of sandwiches here but my go to is the matzah ball soup with a salad (I typically add a scoop of chicken salad). The service is always fast and friendly. Seating in the restaurant is tight but I always end up snagging one of the four top tables towards the front that offer more wiggle room. read more

We had to wait for about 20 minutes for a table so it could have been much worse. I will also say it gets quite loud and the tables themselves are small. Our party of seven got seated at two tables next to each other with a divider in between them. But, the food came out really fast. I ordered the cheeseburger and fries and honestly, it was delicious! It was actually hard to decide what to order because the menu is so large. I'd definitely come back to try some of the other famed sandwiches and the milkshakes. The parking on that street is tight so I'd suggest finding street parking and walking over. read more

Amazing Annapolis staple with so many options to choose from. My wife and I went her for breakfast in 4th of July. It was pretty full but they had a booth for us. Service was friendly and fast. Decor is full of many pictures. It's an older place and does not seem wheelchair accessible. The place rose for pledge of allegiance while there which is an interesting daily traditions. They have menu items named after most of the Maryland politicians. We got the pizza bagel named for Senato Jeff Waldstreicher as we are friends with his family as well as the Golda Meir lox sandwich (former Israeli Prime Minister that my great grandmother and my namesake hosted in her own home). We also got one of their shareable milkshakes and coffee. We look forward to returning and trying more of their menu items. read more

Great food and service! Met some friends for a Christmas eve brunch. It was packed but not too long of a wait for a table. Was my first time dining here but my friends had been before. Our server, Sarah was great! Very attentive and friendly. I was feeling more lunch than breakfast so I opted for a reuben sandwich with a side of fries! Probably the best reuben I've had. I would come back just for that! Got a mimosa with pineapple juice (I prefer that over orange juice). It was good! Parking is tight but not impossible. There's a nearby garage! We really enjoyed our lunch today at Chick and Ruth's Delly. I ordered the cheesesteak, and it was really good. The homemade roll was particularly good. One thing, I'd prefer a little less onions and more meat. My boyfriend got the hot pastrami and inhaled it- five stars for that. We also both got a fancy milkshake, but because it was to go, it was deconstructed so the baked goods wouldn't fall off. I had the black and white cookie milkshake. To be honest the shakes are nothing special though they are good! but that cookie was unreal. It was massive, soft, and just perfect. Same comment for the strawberry milkshake- the shake was fine but the donut was amazing! It wasn't greasy at all and so satisfying. We'll definitely return, but would probably choose to get a sandwich and some baked goods next time (they all looked gorgeous!) read more

One doesn't go to downtown Annapolis without visiting Chick & Ruth's for a bite to eat! You've probably seen this place on Man vs. Food. But it's another to actually go in and grab lunch in there. The spirit of Annapolis is self contained in this compact little diner. Steps away from the USNA, Chick & Ruth's is a charming little spot that captures the classic diner feel with the soul of a local business that stands ten toes down for the local sports team just a few steps away. The crab cakes are great, the burgers are solid, and the deli Sammys aren't half bad either. If you're feeling bold, I recommend doing the Colossal Challenge. If you come during breakfast and it's before 8am on the weekday or before 9:30am before the weekends prepared to drop everything you're doing and join the friendly staff to say the pledge of allegiance! Chick & Ruth's is peak local business, it's a great spot for any Navy game (or visiting their loved ones attending USNA), and offers comfort diner food. This is one place in Annapolis everyone outta visit. read more

This is an awesome diner/deli in historic downtown Annapolis. We went in for lunch and we able to grab a seat quickly. On our way to our seat, I noticed their delicious looking desserts in the glass display (we were too full to try any this time, but definitely would make an effort to next time!). Our server was friendly and attentive. I ordered their #33 which is a crispy chicken sandwich with provolone, lettuce, and tomato. I requested some Mayo on the side. I also ordered Mac and cheese. My bf ordered country fried steak with mashed potatoes and Mac and cheese. The meals came out quickly, nice and hot. My sandwich was huge! I enjoyed it; the chicken was well prepared. The breading did come off a bit as I ate it, but not a big deal (and those crispy pieces were yummy!). The Mac and cheese was tasty and delightfully cheesy. I ended up taking about half of my meal home since I was so full. My bf loved his meal as well and said the country fried steak was one of the best he's had. I tasted some and agreed it was very good; the steak was tender and their white gravy was delicious. Overall, this is a great spot and I'd definitely return next time I'm in the area! read more

This place has a lot of character. When you first walk in, you get an old school diner vibe ... which I love. And one of the first things you see when you walk in is their glass case with various pastries. Dang, I'm in trouble! The all look so good! Then, there is the menu. Wow! They offer a lot of different options. After a quick review, I knew I wanted breakfast, so I ordered a simple Bacon, Egg, and Cheese on a Bagel. It was great! And during this whole experience, we had really good service ... checking up on us regularly. But wait, I'm not done yet. You see, I order the BEC on a bagel for a reason. I wanted to make sure I had room for one of their delicious pastries. And they had one of my favorites ... apple fritter. Oh man! It was soo good! I was bouncing off the walls with all that sugar in my system, but it was worth it! Looking forward to returning and trying more items on the menu. read more

I went to Chick & Ruth's twice during my all-too-brief Annapolis trip (transportation debacles to be reviewed separately), which isn't my usual travel paradigm, but it was so good I had to return. The crab-and-waffles was stricken from my starting rotation so I hope to come back for that. The crab cake Benedict was stunning. I don't know exactly what's in the potatoes but I can see why they're famous. I also enjoyed the pork chops. Breakfast anytime is a major selling point, and you will want to try that sausage gravy. Service was friendly and quick, giving me more time to take pictures of buildings. read more

Chick and Ruth Stein This place was a real experience and I mean that in the most positive way. Each of the small tables had a multitude of pictures on the wall giving the space a nice local vibe. We were there for breakfast and I have to mention we were surprised when we were asked to stand at 9:30 AM for the Pledge of Allegiance. It was a nice local touch given that the Navy is a prominent feature there. Each one of our dishes was above average and we would definitely return to try other items on the menu. I had a bagel with swiss cheese, ham and eggs, and it was perfect. The Greek omelette was beautiful. The home fries were way above the norm and well seasoned. My wife is very fussy about how her eggs are cooked and they cooked them exactly to her specifications. That's really impressive in such a busy place. Our server was very friendly and accommodating. Hey the coffee was good too. We are originally from the New Jersey area, which has wonderful diners and a reputation for being the diner capital of the United States; and we have to say that this diner exceeded our expectations. We loved the layout of the place because there were single booths and booths with double small tables to accommodate a party of four as two couples. If we lived in Annapolis, this would be one of our go-to places. read more

I wish I lived closer to Chick and Ruth's, though perhaps it is better for my waistline. Ordered a hot pastrami on white toast with a side of fries and the banana peanut butter fancy shake to share. The fries needed a little salt and pepper, but they came out so hot and fresh that I had to force myself to stop eating them when they arrived to focus on the sandwich. Sandwich and shake were both tasty. I recommend sharing the shake if you can because they don't hold back. We also got one of their large black and white cookies to go, which was as good as the black and whites I've had in NYC for half the price. Food aside, I love the character and quirkiness of the place. We had nice service from our waiter as well. read more

Old standby type place that's been around for decades. Very informal, eclectic ambience with photos on the wall. Large diner style menu with wide variety, specialize in half pound crabcakes. My wife had a chicken Caesar wrap and I a turkey sandwich. Basic fare no-frills but decent. Pricing on the check was a couple of dollars more than listed in the menu which was a bit disappointing. Great location on Main Street. read more

Chick and Ruth's was on any number of 'must try' lists when looking at Annapolis and is a staple here that has been around forever on their historic Main Street. We stopped in for lunch after our tour of the Naval Academy and were not disappointed. We seated ourselves outside at a table for people watching and were greeted pretty quickly. The menu is large and has breakfast, lunch and dinner items you can order all day long. I chose to make my own chopped salad for about $10.99 + $5 for turkey - when it came out it was HUGE. I ate and ate and ate and still took home something that looked like an entire portion. I also had a sweet tea and it was amazing! Perfectly made. My husband chose to get the Reuben with crispy fries and loved it. He said it was one of the best Reubens he's ever had and he's probably had 10,000 of them. Fresh pickles and spicy mustard were served while we waited - noms! Really good pickles. I went inside to use the bathroom - one single small bathroom at the top of the stairs - unisex. Kind'a add to the dive-y charm here. I liked the inside deli feel with small, close booth tables and bar seating. They serve a bunch of baked goodies and huge cookies inside too - like $1.99 each. Service was easy and smooth the entire time we dined and we chatted with a local who was seated behind us. I can see why this place is a staple for local's and students. A must try for sure. Consistent and delicious with huge portions and fair prices. What is not to love? read more

Terrible! DO NOT EAT here! Binder full of crab and world's worst service! 1. Food: terrible! Who in the world is inflating and writing these fake reviews? Lots of binder or bread or whatever in it made it impossible to taste the crab. Cheap tomatoes, wilted lettuce.. what is there to like? 2. Service: RUDE! attacks you! yells at you! If you like to have your appetite ruined and yelled at for absolutely no good reason, while you are minding yourself and eating their terrible tasting food and not complaining- the cashier storms over and yells: "You can't sit here! Only tip paying customers can sit here" And gestured us to leave! First off, it was my first time here, there was no sign, no human, nothing! I walked over and asked if I should pay here to order and she herself said yes! Where I promptly paid and ordered what I wanted. The place is DEAD! 80% of the tables are empty. And I sit at one of the tables and waited.. they brought the food and we were eating... that's when the storming, yelling happened and made it clear that my Asian a** was unwelcome! Here's the thing: I did have lots of cash in my purse and if it was about getting a tip, I could have left some! To make matters worse, for the $26 order, I did give $2 while at the cashier at the time of order, even though I haven't eaten and had no idea how things will turn out! Do you tip McDonalds when you order your food? No one does. But I had done it here! Exactly same process: I walked over, standing, ordered, paid and I tipped! If they did a good job, I would have left more, but I was shooed, yelled, so much so to the point, people in the neighboring table said sorry it happened to us and apologized on the cashier's behalf. Is the cashier the Chick or the Ruth?! Don't care which is which. Highly do NOT recommend this place! read more

How this place doesn't have 5 stars astounds me. This is one of the cooler restaurants in Annapolis. We were greeted immediately and our servers were chatting us up about where we're from and asking us questions. It was so great to have awesome customer service again! The crab cake is divine- we heard a lady walk by and said it was delicious so we decided to find out ourselves. The Reuben was delicious too. Missing the days of a short drive to Langer's, Philippe, and Benjies, I had to save my 200th review and homage to Chick & Ruth's in the heart of Annapolis. It has been years and I smiled when we were seated right in the very same space where I frequented back in my early years. Salivating for the stacked sight of a warm oozey sandwich, the mean hankering for a reuben came with a vengeance. Savory is an indulgence for me and The Senator Ben Cardin reuben here fit the bill. Shout out to Aneesah, our beautiful server! Quick and attending each stall, she maneuvered through the tight spaces to her guests with ease and all smiles. Our Reubens came piping hot with steam atop and fries to burn my tongue just the way I like 'em. We came for the no frills and it was met with full satisfaction. The warm toastyness of the rye, the ooze of the Swiss, the perfect tang of the kraut, and the massive stack of the corned beef... oh what a delicious treat! The pickles was a bonus, simple yet that cooling crunch in between chomps. Timing was on my side this busy weekend as we arrived after the morning rush and just before the lunch crowd swarmed in. Also scored parking right out front! Tables outside are available weather permitting. I absolutely love the nostalgia this place brings and glad to see they continue to serve our community. Oh, I can't wait to return after my fast. read more

It should be a crime to rate Chick & Ruth's Delly anything less than 5 stars. When visiting a new city or state, this is EXACTLY the multigenerational place you hope to find. Booths worn by decades of camaraderie, a menu expanded little by little until there is barely room for it, servers who have that East coast motherly charm- "you're an important part of my day but not you're not my whole day so get on with it." Of course they'd never say this directly. Portions are generous, menu is diverse, and the wait was EVERY bit worth it. Our visit to Annapolis would have been empty without it. read more

My husband and I wanted to order delivery. C&R uses 2 services: Door Dash and Grub Hub. The sandwich my husband wanted was on one and mine on another. (How weird is that??) I called amd was told that they had pulled a number of items from DoorDash. I asked to speak to the manager who told me that we should just come in and pick the order up there. Took a day trip to Annapolis and stopped by the visitor center. Asked one of the employees for food recommendations and she highly recommended this place. I am so glad she did! The place is small; it can be a tight squeeze walking through and some of the tables you end up with a very small amount of room. However, it's a unique experience. Our waitress, Melanie, was amazing! We loved her. Sociable, attentive, and overall just very sweet. She recommended their crab cakes. I don't eat seafood but my friend decided to order it with a side of sweet potato fries. I ordered a steak sub sandwich with regular fries. My friend loved her food. I enjoyed my food but I wish the sandwich had either a dipping sauce or some kind of spread on it. It had nothing so it was quite dry. The fries were deliciously crispy. This place is known for their milkshakes. We were so full from our food that we decided to come back later to have one. They have a 6 pound milkshake challenge. No way I could do that but there's a board of people that have been able to do it. Instead, we got a couple of their specialty shakes. It was delicious! And you get to keep the cup (they bring you a new clean one to take home). Our waiter for our shakes was also amazing. All in all- the food is solid, the staff are amazing, and the prices are fair. I'd be eating here frequently if I were local. Truly a treasure! read more

Food was good, prices were competitive. Was different sitting in a split booth, where it could seat one party of 4 or two parties of 2, as that meant we had some neighbors right next to us. But despite the closeness of everyone, it wasn't super loud. I got the western omelette with cheese (basically a Denver), and my wife got the crab omelette (only in Maryland, right?). Both were great, as were the home potatoes. My omelette was about what you'd pay for similar elsewhere, wife's was a bit pricey, but then again it was crab, so was to be expected. The service was also very good. Waitress was quick with our drinks and then meals, and made sure to check in on us every so often. There's a lot of food choices in Historic Annapolis to try out, but will definitely keep Chick & Ruth's in mind the next time we come back. read more
