Amazing Annapolis staple with so many options to choose from. My wife and I went her for breakfast in 4th of July. It was pretty full but they had a booth for us. Service was friendly and fast. Decor is full of many pictures. It's an older place and does not seem wheelchair accessible. The place rose for pledge of allegiance while there which is an interesting daily traditions. They have menu items named after most of the Maryland politicians. We got the pizza bagel named for Senato Jeff Waldstreicher as we are friends with his family as well as the Golda Meir lox sandwich (former Israeli Prime Minister that my great grandmother and my namesake hosted in her own home). We also got one of their shareable milkshakes and coffee. We look forward to returning and trying more of their menu items.

Great food and service! Met some friends for a Christmas eve brunch. It was packed but not too long of a wait for a table. Was my first time dining here but my friends had been before. Our server, Sarah was great! Very attentive and friendly. I was feeling more lunch than breakfast so I opted for a reuben sandwich with a side of fries! Probably the best reuben I've had. I would come back just for that! Got a mimosa with pineapple juice (I prefer that over orange juice). It was good! Parking is tight but not impossible. There's a nearby garage! I really need to explore Annapolis more often.

What a wonderful casual dining establishment with the best made to order breakfast ever. I loved my two eggs over easy on top of corned beef hash and wheat toast. I also got to lead the Pledge of Allegiance at 8:30 am--a local tradition. Jeanette, Shelly, and Jessica are the best and made me feel right at home and special. I will go back evey time I am in Annapolis.

This is an awesome diner/deli in historic downtown Annapolis. We went in for lunch and we able to grab a seat quickly. On our way to our seat, I noticed their delicious looking desserts in the glass display (we were too full to try any this time, but definitely would make an effort to next time!). Our server was friendly and attentive. I ordered their #33 which is a crispy chicken sandwich with provolone, lettuce, and tomato. I requested some Mayo on the side. I also ordered Mac and cheese. My bf ordered country fried steak with mashed potatoes and Mac and cheese. The meals came out quickly, nice and hot. My sandwich was huge! I enjoyed it; the chicken was well prepared. The breading did come off a bit as I ate it, but not a big deal (and those crispy pieces were yummy!). The Mac and cheese was tasty and delightfully cheesy. I ended up taking about half of my meal home since I was so full. My bf loved his meal as well and said the country fried steak was one of the best he's had. I tasted some and agreed it was very good; the steak was tender and their white gravy was delicious. Overall, this is a great spot and I'd definitely return next time I'm in the area!

AN ANNAPOLIS LEGEND Love the warm ambiance and ruthless efficiency of the "hostess" managing table seatings at C&R for Sunday brunch. It a Manhattan style madhouse that's worth the wait! Dine shoulder to shoulder with your neighboring 2-top and yearn for a second look by your waitress. You don't get -- or put up with -- this experience many places, but at C&R it's a weekend legacy. The food is more HIT than MISS, but the heavy volume days can mean that your plate arrives luke warm as they bring out your family's food hot off-the-grill. Take a seat, enjoy the frenetic activity and join "those who have!"

Chick and Ruth Stein This place was a real experience and I mean that in the most positive way. Each of the small tables had a multitude of pictures on the wall giving the space a nice local vibe. We were there for breakfast and I have to mention we were surprised when we were asked to stand at 9:30 AM for the Pledge of Allegiance. It was a nice local touch given that the Navy is a prominent feature there. Each one of our dishes was above average and we would definitely return to try other items on the menu. I had a bagel with swiss cheese, ham and eggs, and it was perfect. The Greek omelette was beautiful. The home fries were way above the norm and well seasoned. My wife is very fussy about how her eggs are cooked and they cooked them exactly to her specifications. That's really impressive in such a busy place. Our server was very friendly and accommodating. Hey the coffee was good too. We are originally from the New Jersey area, which has wonderful diners and a reputation for being the diner capital of the United States; and we have to say that this diner exceeded our expectations. We loved the layout of the place because there were single booths and booths with double small tables to accommodate a party of four as two couples. If we lived in Annapolis, this would be one of our go-to places.

Chick and Ruth's was on any number of 'must try' lists when looking at Annapolis and is a staple here that has been around forever on their historic Main Street. We stopped in for lunch after our tour of the Naval Academy and were not disappointed. We seated ourselves outside at a table for people watching and were greeted pretty quickly. The menu is large and has breakfast, lunch and dinner items you can order all day long. I chose to make my own chopped salad for about $10.99 + $5 for turkey - when it came out it was HUGE. I ate and ate and ate and still took home something that looked like an entire portion. I also had a sweet tea and it was amazing! Perfectly made. My husband chose to get the Reuben with crispy fries and loved it. He said it was one of the best Reubens he's ever had and he's probably had 10,000 of them. Fresh pickles and spicy mustard were served while we waited - noms! Really good pickles. I went inside to use the bathroom - one single small bathroom at the top of the stairs - unisex. Kind'a add to the dive-y charm here. I liked the inside deli feel with small, close booth tables and bar seating. They serve a bunch of baked goodies and huge cookies inside too - like $1.99 each. Service was easy and smooth the entire time we dined and we chatted with a local who was seated behind us. I can see why this place is a staple for local's and students. A must try for sure. Consistent and delicious with huge portions and fair prices. What is not to love?

How this place doesn't have 5 stars astounds me. This is one of the cooler restaurants in Annapolis. We were greeted immediately and our servers were chatting us up about where we're from and asking us questions. It was so great to have awesome customer service again! The crab cake is divine- we heard a lady walk by and said it was delicious so we decided to find out ourselves. The Reuben was delicious too. I had to take a menu home to keep looking because they offer so many options! We will be back for pie and breakfast soon! It gives the old times diner feel and we loved it on there!

Don't let the looks for you, you're gonna be hard-pressed to find a better crabcake in Annapolis. Friendly staff and great foods.

Terrible! DO NOT EAT here! Binder full of crab and world's worst service! 1. Food: terrible! Who in the world is inflating and writing these fake reviews? Lots of binder or bread or whatever in it made it impossible to taste the crab. Cheap tomatoes, wilted lettuce.. what is there to like? 2. Service: RUDE! attacks you! yells at you! If you like to have your appetite ruined and yelled at for absolutely no good reason, while you are minding yourself and eating their terrible tasting food and not complaining- the cashier storms over and yells: "You can't sit here! Only tip paying customers can sit here" And gestured us to leave! First off, it was my first time here, there was no sign, no human, nothing! I walked over and asked if I should pay here to order and she herself said yes! Where I promptly paid and ordered what I wanted. The place is DEAD! 80% of the tables are empty. And I sit at one of the tables and waited.. they brought the food and we were eating... that's when the storming, yelling happened and made it clear that my Asian a** was unwelcome! Here's the thing: I did have lots of cash in my purse and if it was about getting a tip, I could have left some! To make matters worse, for the $26 order, I did give $2 while at the cashier at the time of order, even though I haven't eaten and had no idea how things will turn out! Do you tip McDonalds when you order your food? No one does. But I had done it here! Exactly same process: I walked over, standing, ordered, paid and I tipped! If they did a good job, I would have left more, but I was shooed, yelled, so much so to the point, people in the neighboring table said sorry it happened to us and apologized on the cashier's behalf. Is the cashier the Chick or the Ruth?! Don't care which is which. Highly do NOT recommend this place!

Ha! Memories of the cozy booth seating as it was some decades ago.

Missing the days of a short drive to Langer's, Philippe, and Benjies, I had to save my 200th review and homage to Chick & Ruth's in the heart of Annapolis. It has been years and I smiled when we were seated right in the very same space where I frequented back in my early years. Salivating for the stacked sight of a warm oozey sandwich, the mean hankering for a reuben came with a vengeance. Savory is an indulgence for me and The Senator Ben Cardin reuben here fit the bill. Shout out to Aneesah, our beautiful server! Quick and attending each stall, she maneuvered through the tight spaces to her guests with ease and all smiles. Our Reubens came piping hot with steam atop and fries to burn my tongue just the way I like 'em. We came for the no frills and it was met with full satisfaction. The warm toastyness of the rye, the ooze of the Swiss, the perfect tang of the kraut, and the massive stack of the corned beef... oh what a delicious treat! The pickles was a bonus, simple yet that cooling crunch in between chomps. Timing was on my side this busy weekend as we arrived after the morning rush and just before the lunch crowd swarmed in. Also scored parking right out front! Tables outside are available weather permitting. I absolutely love the nostalgia this place brings and glad to see they continue to serve our community. Oh, I can't wait to return after my fast.

    What is parking like?

Street = not great, unless you're really lucky. Lot = yes, there's one behind the place, which you can access via Duke of Gloucester or Main Street. I think it's called the Noah Hillman Garage.

I should take a step back, parking when driving east is literally right past the restaurant in the back. I personally think it's almost invisible that way, there is a sign but it looks like it's pointing to a grassy field (my SO felt the same way). I turned up further and U turned and it's more clear going west. The parking says free but the people caravaning with us got dinged for parking being free until 3 (we were there after that) which was not well advertised (SO only figured it out online) and there were no gates or cards when we went in free that I saw. I guess that's not really the restaurants fault but it did sour the experience a little and worth knowing getting there. Anyway, the waiting area is big but it's fairly narrow so if you're not on the bench you're sort of awkwardly standing in the middle of the entry area. But since it's big there wasn't any colliding with people unlike other places I've had to wait. There is outside seating but it was not available the day we were there despite it being 60-70s. Their menu has a good mix of breakfast and lunch foods. My first complaint is that a lot of the stuff is a lot. They don't have a lot of non-complex foods (e.g. plain hamburger) which may turn off some folks notably kids. That said their kids menu combo was pretty diverse itself, both kids with us seemed pleased. I got a pulled pork sandwhich with sweet potato fries. I also saw best pancakes in the country advertised so got 2 pancakes (apparently they have a short stack I did not see on either manu) which I felt was good to know. I was pleased with all my food, though it was understably messy. However, given the length of time it took to seat as well as eat, I did not think it was any better than IHOP or Dennys. So comparing price and boasting, does affect my rating. I suspect some of the price hike is location, perhaps they can afford to do that, they definitely had plenty of customers! NOTE: Usually I'll describe other peoples food but our party was big. No-one had any super remarkable praise or detraction which is another reason for the 3* leaning. If we had not been driving through, hungry and specifically targetted this place I'm not sure we would have stayed. When we left we were not hungry and were happy but I am hard pressed to give more than 3* since it didn't feel memorable just long and expensive. That said, 3 is average, I would eat there again if in the area or even recommend people to try. But I also know that strip has a ton of stellar foods, so...likely you could also find better places even for brunch :)

I made a takeout order and got the crab cake omelette (w/ a biscuit) $18.29, legendary scone: Blueberry $3, single blueberry pancake $2.89, single maple bacon pancake $2.89, and single cinnamon roll pancake $2.89. - The crab cake omelet was my 2nd favorite as they surprisingly didn't skimp on the crab additions. The biscuit was just alright, but luckily it's best once combined with omlette to make a good sandwich. - The blueberry scone was probably my favorite, as it was pretty good. It was moist, fresh, and well done. - The trifecta of pancakes ranged from just okay to decent, and my ranking would go blueberry, maple bacon, and then cinnamon roll. For some odd reason, the texture of the cinnamon roll pancake was notably inferior to the other 2. Overall, my experience was quite a good one due to the scone and crab omelet delivering the most. -- #issa.cheatday

However, the chicken was breast meat and sliced thin, which made it come across as dry. I did tell the server I liked it and didn't go into much detail since she seemed very busy and I didn't want to add stress in the moment. Still, it's not something I would personally order again. The waffle situation was more frustrating. I initially received cornmeal waffles, but I had told my server ahead of time that I strongly avoid cornmeal. She said she would substitute them, so I was surprised when the plate came out with the original cornmeal waffles. I didn't realize at first and ended up taking a bite before noticing. I let the server know and she had the kitchen remake it. The replacement Belgian waffles were overcooked and dense, so they didn't really improve the experience. The butter though was genuinely delicious, just very rich and more of a holiday-style flavor than something I'd personally crave in warmer weather. I also had a basic cup of coffee made with Rise Up Coffee Roasters, which was $4.50. That felt overpriced for what it was. I could have walked right across the street and had a specialty coffee from the source for very little extra cost, which honestly would have been the better choice. Overall, the experience had some clear issues, especially with the waffle mix-up and consistency, but it wasn't completely disappointing. I just don't think I would personally order the same meal again.

My only real complaint is the hours; they're only open to 1pm (1:30pm mostly, but it was shortened by a half hour during the summer, from what the note said). The food continues to be good, your standard breakfast fare mostly. There are dishes beyond that, but it generally fits the brunch mood. The décor is fine; place is always clean, furnishings look well kempt. The service was also great. We arrived around 12:45 and they sat us without any hesitation. (No calls of "well, we're closing soon...") The prices are very affordable, especially compared to similar sit-down establishments. Plus, you shouldn't be leaving hungry! You get what feels like a field's worth of potatoes per order! LOL! This isn't a complaint, more of a note: the location might be hard to see from the road. It's in the same shopping center as the PetSmart, but it's tucked away in the back. If you can see the PetSmart, you're nearly there, just keep looking towards the far end of that little strip of shops. It's in the second building tucked away in the corner. Again, not a complaint, just a heads up. It's a great alternative to fast food greasy food and the other chains of diner-like offerings. Quaint, cozy, and well worth the value for your breakfast buck.

We started off with biscuits for the table- they were very warm and not too dry- served with a spicy jam & some honey butter. They were sooooo delicious. My main meal was the smoked fried chicken, it is A LOT of chicken lol I got the spicy dry rub on the side to try and it was really good- would recommend trying it if you like a little kick with your chicken. For sides I got the Brussel sprouts which have bacon, goat cheese and some type of nut in them. They were really good and flavorful. I also had the hush puppies which are served with the same butter that came with the biscuits. They were nice and crisp but not over cooked. I recommend both sides. My family seemed to enjoy their dishes as well. My friend had the burger with pork belly on it, my father had the Cajun seafood pasta & my mother had the blackberry thighs. Overall everything tasted great. We got dessert to go, I had bread pudding which I later ate- and it was phenomenal. The sauce they serve with it really brings it together nicely. Definitely heat it up prior to eating if you have it to go. Overall was a good experience and I'm glad we ended up eating here. Would recommend

It took about 10 minutes to get my food and I was on my way. I drove about 15 minutes away. My food was still pretty hot and fresh. You could only order from their brunch menu, so I was happy to find the catfish as I came in wanting it.
