This small cafe is super cute and serves delicious coffee and comforting food. I most recently popped in for lunch but found myself tempted with Blue Rooster's all day breakfast as did my husband. We both enjoyed our omelet and breakfast burritos. I'm not usually one for breakfast potatoes but I appreciate that Blue Rooster dusts theirs with Old Bay. The logistics at Blue Rooster is that you place your order at the counter and then you find a table. The staff will deliver food to the table. Drinks may be provided upon ordering or be brought to the table just depending on the preparation required and drink queue. On a busy rainy morning the staff was friendly. We've lived in the area for a while and never got around to visiting this restaurant. I'm glad we finally did. The Blue Rooster Café is very cute, the staff were friendly, and the food was great. We stopped in for a late breakfast and chose the steak & eggs, shrimp & grits, and the Works on a croissant. Everyone loved their dish! The dining area is nice and cozy and you seat yourself after ordering at the counter. There were several items on the menu that sounded great so we'll definitely be back. We also plan to purchase their coffee beans as the coffee was fantastic. Overall, a very good experience and I know that this will now become a regular stop for us. read more

Have lived in Cape for 25 out of 27 years of my life, and only experienced Blue Rooster when I started working here a year and a half ago. I regret living in Cape most of my life and never walking into this building before working here. 5 years ago I left a review for Blue Rooster and it wasn't glowing. The food was not great and even seemed pre-prepared. For at least the last 3 years, that all changed so much that I felt the need to leave another review. The food is fresh (or sourced locally fresh (bagels are from naval bagels for example)), and delicious. The only thing that I think is a frozen food item is the hash browns and I'm giving them a pass on that because it's those really good ones and I think they still cook them at the restaurant. The sandwiches in general are really good. The breakfast sandwiches (I recommend having them on the croissant) are very very good. My kids love the pancakes and waffles as well. Everything on the menu is well done. Those are just my picks (I have a hard time ordering new things when I really like something on a menu). My wife and kids have liked everything they've chosen as well over 40 or so visits over the last 2 years. My wife is gluten free and they have gluten free bread that's good! One of the things people don't really talk about is their coffee. It's not bitter coffee like a Starbucks. I drink it with just half and half and it's really smooth. If this place had a drive up, I don't think the coffee would stay a hidden gem. My single gripe about the place is that it's too small. On a weekend, the tables are full as they should be. People want good food and they have it, so they go. They've outgrown the space imo and I don't think they have room to expand on either side of them. It's not a reason not to go. Most people that go there know tables are in short supply and are courteous about eating and leaving so someone else can sit. So please go and enjoy, just know you might have to wait for a table while your food is cooking. And last but not least... The best thing about this place... The staff. Maybe I'm just an old guy, but the people that work here are so friendly. Ask a million questions and they smile and answer every one. Something wrong with the food, no problem. Another smile and they solve the issue. They're so nice to the kids with huge smiles for them each time as well. So at the end of the day, if you wrote this place off a few years ago, go back. They did a complete 180 in the food. No more packaged muffins or bagged bagels. They get gluten free desserts from the Eastern Shore (I'm forgetting the bakery name). 1st time here - likely last time here too. The food was really good but the service and the large amount of flies that were very bothersome diminished the experience. The Cubano sandwich was very good. Very tasty and a large sandwich accompanied by Old Bay fries made for a very good lunch. Also tried the strawberry shortcake pancakes which tasted great! The service was absurd. The young man taking the order missed items as I ordered and then forgot to finalize them, leaving a missed item. Another employee came from the back to assist so maybe a new employee but pretty unbelievable considering there was no one else in line to order so should not have been overwhelmed. The flies. I noticed a couple of flies when I first walked in but it is a restaurant so not totally unusual. I washed hands in the bathroom and discovered I was surrounded by a large group of flies, even though there was a hanging, paper fly strip in the bathroom. Upon sitting down at a table, the flies attacked and didn't stop. Every bite of food was accompanied by numerous flies attempting to land on the food. There was no end to it. I would say there is an infestation. I would give the food 5 stars but the overall experience was a 3 due to the service and the flies. read more

Management was extremely rude to my group. We were celebrating a wedding trying to get a quick coffee. We were laughing and talking and the manager came over and told us "you can either keep quiet or leave." Food was mediocre at best. 7/1/2023 Ambience: this place fits the quintessential small town feel. However, the decor is lackluster as no indication of "blue or rooster" in its reflection. To maximize seating, the design should have one long banquette on one side of the room with tables of twos. The middle area of the room should have 5-8 tables of fours. The counter/cashier area should be moved to where the merchandise area is (in the back). You don't need to sell merchandise if your foods are great. It's a waste of financial inventory and a waste of space. But if you insist on selling merchandise, just set up a small table and sell only mugs (for tea and coffee). Next to that, set up a small tea area, rather than place it in the front near the door. The other side of the room should allow a flow for people to line up and place their orders and/or retrieve online orders or orders to go. This side area also creates a flow when consumers need to use the restroom. I'm in the schools of Robert Irvine and Gordon Ramsey, organized flow of space, whereas, my husband's opinion differs and says the place is fine as he prefers "organized chaos". Tea set up area needs to be tidier and salt/pepper/condiments on our tables needed cleaning (minus 1 star for the uncleanliness, not the decor). Service: young, hard working staff. Very attentive and courteous. It was semi busy when we were there. The place was somewhat filled and we didn't have to wait too long to get our foods (plus 1 star). Foods: we ordered the Hangover Benny ($16), the Three Egg Omelette ($12), and two teas ($4) = $32. Hangover Benny- poached eggs are tricky to do, but here, it's done right - runny and gooey, yummy! Grilled steak - mine was ordered medium rare. It should have been left to sit a few minutes before serving so the blood stops dripping. But, it's the chance we take when ordering steaks rare or medium rare. Lastly, I was expecting home made hash browns, not store bought frozen ones I would not have minded the frozen ones either if this place didn't advertised as locally sourced. Three Egg Omelette- came with a choice of meat, cheddar, onions, peppers, mushrooms and tomatoes with home fries. Well made omelette. Our choice of meat was scrapple. Ours came with not much scrapples in it. Y'all know how we Southern Marylanders love our scrapples! So, we are gonna have to ding you heavily on that one! Home fries, not much flavors, bland (minus 1 star) for foods overall). Now, the pet peeve - let me preface it with this: my husband, in his heart of heart, believes we are white collar folks. He doesn't go over the the checks before or after paying the bills. He simply just pays it. I'm in the school of us being blue collar folks, working hard, bones aching like blue collar folks. I check the bills. This is to say that he had paid the bill up front before we ate. I didn't get to see the bill receipt until we got home. Now, the real pet peeve- our bill came to a total of $33 (for the food only), not $32. I had noticed there was a $0.25 charge to the onions, $0.25 charge to the green peppers, $0.25 charge to the mushrooms, $0.25 charge to the tomatoes (separate from the omelette). Being blue collar folks myself, I definitely understand that times are hard and inflation is real, but at least give us the courtesy and option to choose whether we should pay for the extras in our omelette as this was NOT explained to us up front (when we placed our order) nor was this indicated on the menu. First, the low balling scrapples, and now the hidden fees! AND, there's a $0.96 charge of processing credit card fee. The world has gone mad! This is not about being cheap, I just don't like HIDDEN FEES. Plain and simple (minus 2 stars). My husband doesn't mind returning to this establishment. I'm on the fence. He may persuade me to return as we are always rooting for the small moms and pops places. read more

We came here on Friday for lunch by luck because the place we intended to go was closed. Boy was luck on our side. I had a delicious ham and Brie grilled cheese sandwich with raspberry jam. Hubby got the Reuben. Super, super tasty. Nice little side salad to go with both. It was so good we came back this morning for breakfast. Hubby got the bagels and lox on an everything bagel. Ate it all. Said the bagel was especially good. I got the cinnamon French toast. Perfection. Crunchy on the outside and fluffy on the inside. Served over peaches and blueberries. No need for syrup. Hubby had a bite and declared it money. This from a man that doesn't really like sweets, especially breakfast sweets. Fantastic coffee as well. We will be coming back even though it's about a 25 min drive. So many options for breakfast and lunch. Plus wine and beer. I returned my meal then ordered an omelette, which was better but I didn't want the home fries, because they were overcooked too, so i opted to get the fruit as a side and they charged me $1.50 for what was the size of a dipping sauce cup.
