We recently visited Choptank to celebrate what has been a phenomenal six months of performance, and my associates all agreed that this establishment was truly a treat. From the moment we arrived, the waterfront views set the tone for a memorable evening. The craft cocktails were delicious and expertly prepared. We shared three different appetizers, and the meatballs were the clear standout--absolutely outstanding. For our entrées, we ordered three different fish dishes, each prepared beautifully and uniquely. While every plate impressed, the sea bass was the unanimous favorite and easily one of the best seafood dishes we've had in quite some time. The sides deserve special recognition. Every single one was exceptional--10 stars across the board. My personal favorite was the mac and cheese. Perfection! Great food, great drinks, great atmosphere, and the perfect place to celebrate a team achievement. We look forward to returning as we celebrate more milestones. read more

Ate here last night for my future sister in law's birthday dinner. We had an 8 pm reservation and arrived a few minutes past 8. They told us they were getting our table ready. We waited for quite some time, and were seated closer to 9 pm. We were seated on the second floor which was very large and spacious. There were several large parties upstairs, and I will say our server was excellent. She was attentive, patient, and checked in regularly with us. Their menu has a great selection of seafood options, albeit more pricey. I started with seafood soup, and that was delicious. It had shrimp, thick slab of bacon cut into cubes, and scallops I believe. It was creamy, seasoned well, and a great starter. Then, I had their Caesar salad with chicken. It was a generous portion. I asked for blackened chicken, but they brought out grilled. It was fine. I just think the breadcrumbs were a bit too hard for my preference. Most of the table ordered salads, soups, and my sister in law ordered the crab sandwich. My fiancé had the salmon and he loved it. Since the portions were so large, most people took home to go boxes. I have had quite a visits to the Choptank Restaurant. Nice location sitting on the pier offering indoor and outdoor dining options. Rooftop (or end floor,) is also available. The weather was nice this visit so I sat outdoors, taking in scenes from the pier. The staff were great. I was seated right away. I ordered oysters, one dozen mixed. I had the Maryland Crabcake and the Nightwatch cocktail. They were both superb! The crab cake had a generous amount of crab and the sauce was delicious. I was able to substitute a Ceasar salad for the fries and it was very good. When we first sat down it took a while for the waitress to come over even though the restaurant was half full. But, she was very attentive afterwards. I loved that we had an open window seat and we could watch the boats go by. read more

We came down to the Choptank for a date night. We had a reservation for a weekday which wasn't necessary as I don't think this restaurant gets too busy during the winter on weekdays. I love being able to see the water, this restaurant is in a prime location. There was also parking which was a nice surprise as every other time I've come here there is never parking. The interior is sleek and upscale feeling. The decor is tasteful. They have a full bar and our drinks came out fast. Our calamari was great and my pasta was tasty. After much time has passed and dental visits that were enjoyable I am now downgrading my four star review to a 2. And hers why... I. The food wasn't the same, the cream of crab recipe has changed and it just isn't creamy or tasteful. Why so many spices? The fresh tasing warm comforting soup that was tasty is no more. II. Cesar salad; it still looks beautiful but why does it taste like it came fray out of the freezer. Super cold, almost icy and the taste (just like the soup) wasn't as good. III. Kids chicken fingers and NO BBQ Sauce? Maybe not have a kids menu! IV. Boxes please. We got them, but then have to request a bag to carry them. V. I almost forgot when you bring appetizers bring small plates we can eat them off, We shouldn't have to ask. Service was super despite the busy-ness of the place, shout out to Alec Z. for making it enjoyable for us. As a Labor Day outing, we decided to dine at Choptank as we have gone to this establishment preciously with good experience and nice view. Due to the holiday we could not reserve seating, therefore we checked in and put our name on the list for outdoor seating in the balcony area upstairs. During our waiting period to be seated we went to the bar upstairs in the balcony area and order an orange crush and a glass of orange and pinepple juice mixture. The orange crush was not a hit. We closed out the bar tab after receiving our text to be seated. It took about 45 minutes to an hour before we received a text alerting that they are ready to seat us. Once the text came in I quickly went to the hostess station and waites another 15 plus minutes before receiving a telephone call. I didnt answer such as I asked the hostess with the phone in her hand if she perhaps was calling me. All this to say they never acknowledged me right in there face waiting as they continued talking to others. The hostess seated us and Britney was our server. We ordered calamari and raw oysters to start. The calamari came out in reaaonable time hot in temperature. However, the calamari was filled with fried jalapeno peppers that was 2/3 of the basket. The basket had approximately 8-10 pieces of small calamari but tons of peppers. The taste of the calamari was bland as well but visually pretty good looking. Time elapsed a out 45 minutes or so and our server continued to check on our table as we inquired a few times of the arrival of our order oysters. It took the oysters to arrive at our table about an hour or more from when we ordered. We had ate the calamari and the basket was cleared from our table about 45 minutes before the oysters arrived. The puzzling and moment that gave us a little worry was the Waitress Britney came to us and informed that the oysters were being reiced as they seemingly was lost. We informed that we no longer wanted them if they have been sitting out because it was warm out and the thought of spoilage was not for us. Britney came with fresh oysters and assured us they were just made. Soon as the oysters came out our shared burger and fries arrived at our table as well. The oysters were tasty as we chose 3 different ones. The burger was okay as we were hungry and had waited a very long time for what we thought were items ordered that were quick to come out as they didnt require much preparation. The establishment was not super busy as we have come on 4th of July and other times they were busy and got better service then today. However, our server was very attentive and updating our entire time dining. Although the service was subpar, the view from the upstairs outdoor balcony is beautiful. I was visiting Annapolis for the day. I heard about this place from social media and decided to check it out. I sat at the bar and it was happy hour. The happy hour menu is a great deal avg $8-12. I was immediately greeted and given a menu. The bartenders were very knowledgeable and were able to answer all my questions. I got the crab crusted oysters, so good and would highly recommend it. The drinks were refreshing and had something for everyone. The vibe was very chill and it wasn't too busy. You could hear your conversation with whoever you are with. The Choptank was a mixed bag for me. The ambiance, while a bit on the noisy side, was pretty good. The views of the bay are great - they have an enviable location for sure! The service was solid, but there were some challenges overall. The glasses on the table were dirty, and when the soup came out my cup was sloppy with spilled over contents, and my colleague had a hair in hers. That being said, my Maryland crab soup was excellent. I also got a soft shell crab sandwich with fries. The fries were nicely salted and crispy - they tasted good. I was less impressed with the sandwich. The bacon on it was very salty. The avocado was a nice addition and the bun was tasty, but the soft shell wasn't as edible as I would have preferred. I'll probably try them again because of the wonderful location, but I'll explore different options (but will get the soup again as it was a winner!). read more

At first the lunch started off iffy as the manager and hostess are one entrance completely ignored us and the others standing outside the door while he proceeded to bolt in a door screw . Not saying , oh there another entrance or anything until my patience went to zero. The second hostess stand had friendly staff and we were seated quickly. The view was beautiful, overlooking the downtown Annapolis waterfront. I never get tired of that scenic sight--boats on the Chesapeake Bay with historic downtown Annapolis in the background. The service was what I've come to expect from ATLAS--they have a certain flair. I appreciated the diversity of the staff, which added to the restaurant's appeal. Our waitress, Julia, was sweet and handled her many tables well. I ordered the Cream of Crab Soup with a splash of sherry, along with a Caesar Salad topped with blackened shrimp. The soup was delicious, but the salad lacked enough dressing--it was dry as a desert. I was also surprised to learn that they don't use anchovies in their Caesar dressing recipe. To me, anchovies give the dressing its classic flavor. At other ATLAS restaurants in Baltimore, they use anchovies and will even add extra on top if requested, which I love. The manager on duty stopped by to check on our table. I mentioned the dry salad, but he didn't seem particularly concerned. The staff weren't super communicative and overall seemed frustrated by our larger group waiting by the bar. Meanwhile downstairs with the family the fryer was working overtime with some delicious dishes that dealt some major calories. We feasted on appetizers (Tuna Tartare layered in Fried Wontons and Crispy Old Bay Honey Wings -- can you say "Mmm"). Our mains came with a healthy dose of fries, and complemented the Lemongrass Mussels, Fish & Chips, the Lobster Roll and Spicy Fried Chicken Sandwiches. Annapolis offers many options for waterfront dining and this was on my list to try. We were celebrating a birthday on a Sunday evening and when we arrived the table was prepared and we were seated quickly. Our server, Seraya, was extremely attentive and very friendly. There were nine of us, and she handled the group by herself and never missed a beat. Good service in this area can be challenging sometimes so I love to give props when deserved. Visiting Annapolis for the weekend and was looking for a rooftop dining option. I was fortunate enough to dine at The Choptank. Might be bold saying this but I think these are the best Brussels sprouts and baked potato I've ever had. The salmon was cooked perfectly and it was such an enjoyable meal. Outstanding staff who made me feel welcome and I was shocked at quickly food came out. Met friends for a little pre-Christmas girl time and, once again, Choptank delivered--great food, solid service, and a lively atmosphere even when busy. This time, I went with the seafood chowder--rich, flavorful, and loaded with rock shrimp, scallops, clams, and bacon. Yum! Yum! I also ordered the wedge salad, which is huge and a little unwieldy so definitely shareable. We also ordered the Maine lobster roll and roasted artichoke hearts, but the branzino I didn't order stole the show. Next time. There were no fans where we were seated, which was right next to one of the bay doors that were opened. No air conditioning. Lots of flies we fought to keep away from our food. We will come back in the fall or winter. The table next to us was worse (direct sunlight). Two different parties were seated there and left shortly after because they were uncomfortable. The food and service really are the things saving this review. Loaded mashed potatoes were scrumptious! Seating bass with lemon butter was YUMMY! Started with excellent oysters, which came with a good selection of condiments. We had a lovely family Sunday lunch here on a day trip to Annapolis We got a four top quickly even though it was a sunny day and our server was very good. The bathrooms are available on both levels and clean. Great view of the channel coming from the harbor right at tourist central. We sort of shared different dishes. The burger was pretty good with tasty fries. Not the best burger ever at this price point though. The crab dip (which i usually wouldn't eat) was actually tasty but probably to me because it was so loaded with cheese and cream that there wasn't a lot if crab taste and it was too rich for us to bother to finish. But a good share dish I guess. The seafood Cobb salad was fantastic including really good cubes of caramelized ham. The spicy Cajun tuna tar tar with fried won ton chips was tasty and interesting though quite salty and over sauced. The ladies liked the oyster sampler yet we skipped the ones from our home state clear across the country in puget sound. Overall I'm giving this a 4 star for a hit and miss somewhat overpriced tourist meal because we enjoyed the service, location, and had such a great time visiting this town and I think we picked one of the classier and better dining choices there. read more

We had 7 people, so it generally went ok except the waitress was what I thought of as rude. She was taking our orders and walked away to another table while the person was talking. She went to another table and eventually came back to ours. When the food came out, my order was missing a crabcake. I was nearly finishing the rest of the food before it arrived. When I got the check I saw the reason why the service tucked. 20% added on automatically, so the waitress only wanted to turn the table and make another 20%. It was as if they had dumped a bit of seafood into a bowl of V-8. I counted it as opening pains. I gave it a second try... cioppino was even worse... same flavorless broth and less seafood than I remembered. Expensive and unremarkable, the food is Applebee's, but the prices are French Laundry. The roasted artichoke hearts appetizer needs instructions if you are not familiar with eating whole steamed artichoke, which I imagine many are not. Our reservations were not honored; our appetizers came before our drinks; and the biggest kicker of all was that this place wanted to charge a fortune for an ala carte fish, another fortune for a side, and then a couple of janky bucks extra for the SAUCE?! I love a good Sea Bass, but I want the whole package. Don't nickel and dime me for sauces and side--restaurants are not (yet) airlines. Go somewhere else. Pay less AND have a better experience. read more

I have mixed feelings on this place. The location is beautiful. The patio on the second floor has lovely views and an energetic vibe. However, it can be rather loud at times. Service was quite inattentive. It was very busy and it felt as though there just weren't enough bartenders. I started with the Prime Beef Carpaccio and it did not disappoint! The truffle aioli took it to the next level. I really enjoyed it. I also tried the Maine Lobster Roll with fries. The bun was buttery in flavor, but could've been toasted better. The lobster itself was over-sauced. The lobster should've been the star and I felt that the excessive sauce took away from that. The fries were cooked to perfection, however, I wish they would've offered a different variation of a fry - like truffle fries or Parmesan fries. But plain fries were the only option with it besides a side salad. My biggest disappointment with this place was the Bloody Mary I ordered. You would think that a seafood restaurant like this would offer a really killer Bloody Mary. Instead, I received a glass with vodka and standard Bloody Mary mix, garnished with one tiny lime wedge and one olive. It didn't even have seasoning on the rim! I saw this as a majorly missed opportunity for this place. They should be offering seafood add-ons as a garnish and/or using other creative garnishes. And at the very least, please give me some Old Bay or celery salt on the rim! I found this Bloody Mary to be the most lazy and uninspired cocktail that I've had in a very long time. Overall, I'd say the cons outweighed the pros. Not sure if I would return, as there are so many better options in the area. read more
