Extremely Disappointed I went to Federal House expecting to enjoy a good meal, but instead I was treated very poorly by the staff. As soon as I walked in wearing my MAGA hat, the employees seemed uncomfortable and made it clear they didn't want to serve me. Been to Federal House before and went again this past weekend. It was a busy night since the weather was nice. We sat outside and they had tabletop fire to warm up. Our server was Carly and she was lovely. The menu is pretty extensive and overpriced for bar food A bowl of crab soup is $9.99 and salads were $19.99 and up and that is without the protein. The chicken wings were also in the $19.99 range. Carly recommended the I lobster grilled cheese and she was right! The lobster grilled cheese was delicious. Everyone at our table enjoyed their meals. I go to Annapolis on day trips from time to time so I've been to Federal House a couple times. Nothing to sing home about. The inside has a raging chemical smell- definitely a bad sign but we sit outside every time. I just can't forget the smell though- every time I need to go to the restroom, I'm reminded of it. The food itself is just fine. Overpriced as is all places around the area but I go for being near the water and being dog friendly. The oysters were fine. She answered all of our questions that we had regarding the menu and took great care of us. I did not take a picture, but my in-laws, each got crabcakes and the crab soup and were very pleased. my husband ordered the fish and chips and I ordered the fish tacos. He was pleased with his meal as was I. The fish tacos were fresh and flavorful. They were the perfect combination of crunch from the cabbage and flakiness with the fish. The Federal House Bar and Grill has a great location in downtown Annapolis. The food looks great, and the service is between luke-warm and good. Unfortunately whoever is cooking burgers which is one of there staple dishes needs a lesson in rare, and Medium Well. My burger came out lightly cooked and rare...very rare on the inside so rare it looked like it was straight out of the package. I sent it back and my new burger came, and just like the first one it looked great and was cooked a little bit better and I mean just a little. I kept this one and took it home to cook it properly. Tip for the cook...9 minutes! 3 to 4 or one side then flip for. 5-6 minutes. Also the downstairs bathroom is not ideal. It's small, stink, and disgusting...and yes open for all to use. So despite being disappointed with the burger my table enjoyed the fish and chips, and the pasta. I would go back because they have a great drink selection. And that's where I would stop. read more

I spent many weekends in school at the Academy going to Fed House for dinner so I was excited to go back recently with my kids. They have opened up the front for outdoor seating which is great but the food was so disappointing. I asked for a medium rare burger and it was served well done. It was also fairly flavorless. My husband got the fish and chips which were also pretty bland and the fish was soggy rather than crispy. For the high prices we paid, I expected more. Came here for the first time for a party, which was in the private event room upstairs. There's a bar in the private room with beers, a selection of foods including their hot spinach dip, fruits and cheese plate, meat sliders, Mac n cheese balls, sliced veggies with dip, and breaded chicken fingers. What's hot - Quality. Based on the food we had, it was pretty good. My favorites are their Mac n cheese balls and spinach and cheese dip. Definitely cheesy and substantive. Their veggies were fresh and the food was not overly salty. - Menu. Because we were there for a party, our dishes and available drinks were pre-selected. However, based on what I saw of their regular day-to-day menu, it looked pretty good. There appears to be something for everyone- meats, seafood, and veggies (uncertain about vegan). - Location. In old town Annapolis, which makes it conveniently located to other restaurants, shops, and the bay. However, that also comes with many inconvenient factors, as well, so be prepared. - Service. Our party had 2 servers regularly throughout our event. They were reliable and responsive. The dishes were regularly refreshed when finished. At the end of the event, the servers provided take out containers for us to take left-overs. That was nice, because I appreciate knowing the restaurant wasn't going to simply throw away the remaining food. What's not - Acoustics of private dining room. Their private event room upstairs echos very easily, so when there's a large group of people talking, it's very difficult to have a conversation even among 2 people, because it's super difficult to hear each other. - Parking. Very difficult to find, especially given the area. Be prepared to spend time and hunt for parking, especially given the day and time you go. There's street parking nearby, but a lot of it is permit parking and timed parking. Be prepared to walk and be mindful of the time you parked. - Space. Given the location and layout, this restaurant has somewhat tight spaces. Their upstairs private event room is a good space, but it depends on how many people are there. My wife and I are Aussies living in the USA who love fish and chips. This place has the best we've been able to find. The servings are big, the fish is tasty in a crunchy batter and the fries (not really chips) are also crunchy and delicious. The accompanying coleslaw was also very good.
