Sometimes, you let life take you down an unknown street and the journey becomes a treasured trip. That is what happened when we decided to try Harper's Waterfront on Turkey Point. We had heard that a new restaurant had opened up there and we were wondering where to eat. A few options drifted through our heads before finally settling on Harper's. Boy, did we find a real gem of a restaurant! The dining room, still decorated for Christmas, was so charming. Modern, a little rustic, but very nice and comfortable. The seats were cozy. The lighting was a bit bright but that's not so bad. And the place was clean, clean, clean - from the hostess table to our dining table to the nicely decorated bathroom and even the floors. Everything was clean! Abbey, our server, was friendly and interesting to talk to. She spent so much time talking to us that we were monopolizing her time. She was well spoken, very attractive, attentive and - simply put - a nice person. Likewise, all the staff seemed friendly and professional. But - it's always about the food, isn't it? The food here was really good. We both started out with the cream of crab soup, a dish that we use as the "canary in the cave" to tell us about a new restaurant. Well, the soup won us over from the 1st slurp. Creamy of course - but luxurious even! No hint of a flour taste at all. Beautifully seasoned with just enough Old Bay! Okay, so maybe there could have been more crab in there but, the crab that was in the soup, was big, lumpy and pure! The flavor of the soup was fantastic! My main course was the rockfish piccata. OMG was I impressed! The size of the fish serving was outrageously big. I actually told Abbey that the piece of fish was too big (but only AFTER I had eaten every bite). The first bite told me that I was going to finish it one way or the other! And I did!!! It was a beautiful piece of fish. It was the largest piece of fish I think I have ever been served. The fish was served "skin on" which I usually do not like but in this case it added to the Chesapeake Bay atmosphere of the restaurant. The piccata sauce was perfect - lemony with lots of capers. Maybe a bit too hard on the salt but that did NOT decrease my enjoyment! I just drank more water and had another Arnold Palmer! My spouse got the crab cake sandwich. He loved it and said it was the real deal (meaning that it's Maryland crab meat). He of course ate the whole thing PLUS - I want to point out - he ate a substantial part of my rockfish and I didn't even notice it was missing!!! I hesitate to write this review because I do not want Harper's to get so crowded that I can't get a table when I want to return (and I WILL return). However, Harper's is a great place to get some great food in a delightful atmosphere with great service! I highly recommend this place!!! read more

Harper's had a hiatus last summer and has now reopened. I hosted a happy hour there today with fourteen women. The food was fantastic! People ordered the crab dip, the tuna tower, lamb lollipops, clams, burgers, crab cake, and other items. The happy hour deals are very good. The views are fantastic. Definitely put this place in your list of places to try if you have not been there. The service was friendly and very efficient, even with a bunch of separate checks. read more

Their prices are still too high, but during their Happy Hour, they're more reasonable. BUT they've got yo do something about the acoustics in the main dining area! Tried this place again after it closed for a while. They claim to be under new ownership but I guess somethings get worse. If you want a good laugh order the $15 fry platter. Thought it might be a good appetizer to munch on while having a few drinks. Turns out you get a plate scattered with the remnants of 3 types of fries and tater tots. Looked like the kitchen emptied the bottom of the fryer baskets onto a plate and serve us...give this place a year to close again. read more

First trip here, because we were in town for an event. As pescatarians, seafood is our preference. Sunday Brunch menu offered shrimp 'n' grits which included sausage, but they excluded it per our request. It was delicious! Very flavorful! Food was good. Nice views. But service was surprisingly bad despite not being busy. We waited a while before our server came over. Server never checked on us. Never refilled our waters (I had to go inside and find someone). And the beer I ordered when my entree arrived didn't come out until I was almost finished the meal. Very disappointing. read more

Discovered this gem and so glad we did. The hubby and I like to try new places at least once or twice a month. You never know what to expect with new places but let me tell you.....Harper's Waterfront is legit. Went for brunch today. Beware......the portions are PLENTIFUL and you won't be disappointed. We started with the Fresh Fruit Ice Bowl & Baked Brie. For 2 people.....just order 1 app. We pretty much brought the whole fruit bowl home due to the baked Brie being so amazingly big we couldn't eat all the fruit. I ordered the Steak & Eggs. The quality of that 12 oz NY Strip....that was cooked to a perfect medium...w/ Eggs & Homefries OMG!!! Hubby ordered the Crab Cake Benedict and I knew it was a winner when his eyes rolled to the back of his head after the 1st bite. AGAIN....portions are phenomenal! Dined at Harper's for my mother's birthday and here are my thoughts... Service - Not the best ...very slow for entrees to arrive and the promise of the server that it will come out any minute ..this happened several times ...no follow up on drinks .. Food- Mom and her husband had crabcakes..said they were good but not as good as Mike's which charges less and has more lump meat . Wife had top sirloin which she said was good and was cooked to temp. I had a filet which if I'd of asked how much it was I wouldn't have chose it ..80.00 for a 10oz filet is absurd ..especially since it was not butterflied as I asked..something the server couldn't explain ...and was not to temp ..I have had much better filets in NYC at high end steakhouses for 20 dollars less ...I would have sent it back but it took forever to receive in the first place ..absolutely highway robbery to charge that amount .. Sides - Mashed potatoes were ok ..the hot butter corn was awful ..it was burnt ..if that was intended ..they need to reconsider serving it ... My mom was given a butter cake as it was her birthday ..it took forever to receive but was very good ... Don't think we will be back as too many inconsistencies. read more

This place is AMAZING!!! I rarely ever give 5 but they absolutely earned it. It's situated at a marina and has beautiful views of Lake Ramsey. The outdoor seating is very casual whereas the inside dining room definitely looks a lot more formal. We sat indoors and were quite comfortable. Josh was our server. He was awesome, very attentive, but still gave us space to enjoy the experience. He was very knowledgeable about the menu and offered suggestions which were all spot on. The new GM Doc also walked around greeted the guest, as well as Brian the head Chef. Both very friendly and personable. They took the time to ask your name and made a real effort to get to know you. You definitely felt like you were dining with family. As far as food, we got the pecan smoked wings as our starter. Absolutely delicious. The wood smoked flavor really came through. For my main I got the lobster and shrimp stuffed flounder. It came with green beans and whipped potatoes. The sides were beyond good. Both well seasoned and flavorful. My fish was just ok. A tad dry, but still good. Everything came out of the kitchen fast and hot. We completed our meal with the peanut butter pie. Decadent and rich! Probably the best dessert I've had all season. I believe it's a seasonal dessert, but it definitely deserves a permanent place on the menu. There is absolutely something special about this place. Omg my new favorite place. Writing this note as I sit at their bar, solo, enjoying apps and a dark & stormy (or two). The staff is SO FRIENDLY and fun, I already feel (and want to become) a regular. The crab and artichoke dip is the best version I've had. The shrimp are crisp, huge, sweet and fresh. Hats off to Amanda - cool as a cucumber behind a busy bar. You know how sometimes staff unintentionally makes you feel a bit weird as a solo diner? Not here. Birhtday reservation sat in the outside bar patio area, waited 17min before we were approved with only one menu and there was three of us! Asked for more they never came, the Bartender finally walked over Lea asked her for (3) waters, (1) coke and a glass of Cab.. she returned with water and nothing else. When I finally asked someone else to help they went to her, she returned said sorry I forgot your wine, but do you want to put in a food order yes we said filet mignon but was told they have no steaks other then a $160 tomahawk steak!! I asked her what she recommended she said the chicken biscuit is really good, it arrived. The chicken was ever cooked and dry, it came with french fries, that were cold, and the biscuit that it was on was so dry from Flower it was an edible it was supposed to come with Caramelized peaches but instead it was playing with just shredded lettuce and one slice of hard non ripe tomato!! She never came back to check on us ask about the food or refill our water. We never got out coke. Finally couldn't take anymore service and food was so bad we hand to walk up to another Person and ask for a check as no one in 1.5 hrs came back to our table! Then the young lady who was trying to help us pay and leave lost our credit card !! What a complete disaster!! Horrible food and even worse service!! New place with nice layout and upscale furniture inside. Small bar at the entry with outdoor seating under tent for winter. View of Ramsay Lake boats out over the marina. Windows are west facing. Food is quite good. We had the brunch menu: salmons scramble is first rate, breakfast burger is delish. Server Aileen is great. Attentive but not hurrying or hovering. And informed. She knew about docking for water arrivals. They have a few slips right in front of Ramsay lake. But you have to pass under a narrow bridge with an airdraft that looks about 13' max (marker only goes to 10' on the resto side). They have slips on the Selby Bay side and you have to walk over but the street isn't that busy. I didn't see those slips. read more

Let me start by saying the food is excellent. The way we were treated was not. My husband and I popped in on a Saturday, first time here, grabbing a late lunch/early dinner. We tried calling for a reservation but no one picked up (we called a few times). We decided to wing it and walked up the stairs to the bar/porch area. I asked if we could sit at an empty table, and was told no we could not, and to sit at the bar. We did, with the explanation that they were short staffed and about to start dinner. No biggie. Then a family came up, and the General Manager, who told us we could not sit at the table due to staffing, gave it to the family. This would also not be a big deal if they had a policy where 2 people could not sit at tables, but there was a couple sitting at the table next to them. That couple then left, and I asked if we could sit at the table. The GM then came and leaned over the back of my barstool, put her face so much into my own that I had to lean back, and started rapidly spewing excuses about someone being sick, then not knowing that the bartender would be then, who we ordered food and drink from and was there the entire time, etc. She continued to be bossy about the table vs the bar. I finally asked could we please sit at the table, and she reluctantly let us. She then loudly demanded to know if we had ordered food yet. I'm sure she was stressed out and possibly short staffed, but there were 4 groups seated in the area, and I counted at least 4 staff. read more

Restaurant is loud making conversation a bit challenging. Waiters semi gallop about instead of simply walking. Waiter was fine but he rushed each course. Asked if we were interested in dessert while we were halfway through entree. Crabcakes were good. No filler. Other items were fairly bland and the asparagus was less than fresh. Chocolate cake dessert was drowning in what I think was creme fraiche. Hopefully things will settle down. We dined here on a weekday evening. We had a reservation and we were promptly seated. The staff seemed professional and efficient. Our server, John was cordial, seemed to be familiar with the menu and showed up enough during our stay without being overbearing. The acoustics in the restaurant are terrible. As others have said, peoples voices are amplified thus it's loud in the restaurant. We stared with the Baked Brie and a couple of adult beverages, an orange crush and a mojito. The Brie was delicious and the beverages were refreshing. We ordered their Daily Special. A three course meal advertised for $37 per person. One had the house salad, the other had the cream of crab asparagus soup (I'm not an asparagus eater, but this soup was really good). We had the trout parmesan over mashed potato's and the flank steak with rice. The trout serving was ample. The flank steak portion was small and on the tough side. We both had crème brûlée for dessert. The crème cream brûlée is served in a small cast iron skillet. One skillet was easily enough to be shared by two or more people. The create brûlée was rich thick like pudding. The Executive Chef, Brain Thornton was walking around the restaurant, helping out the servers, busing tables and chatting with the patrons. Apparently there is a service fee when one pays with a credit card. Who knew? Overall it was a pleasurable dining experience. We would probably eat here again. read more

We were there for the Tuesday Local's Night special 3-course meal. It was our first time. Crab cake, crab soup, apple fritter, creme brûlée were phenomenal. Service was on point and ambiance was nice. The closer to sit to the bar the brighter the lighting was. Too much of a contrast in lighting, in my opinion. The noise level was loud enough, even though the restaurant was not crowded. Can't imagine the noise level when it is full. What we didn't like was the slow roasted pork that was not very tender and was very sweet with the sauce added on top. Also the mash potato that was served with crab cake had a sour note. Our server couldn't explain why mash potato is sour. With the special price for Local's night fixed price dinner, it was more affordable. What is intriguing is that the place offers Pho! Got to give the chef kudos for his eclectic menu. read more

We celebrated my Father's birthday here last night and couldn't have been happier! The service was wonderful, we were well tended to and everyone was so nice and celebratory - - even after I brought a balloon bouquet to complicate the situation! The food was incredible! We started with the crab dip - DELICIOUS - and everyone was happy with their mains (my filet mignon sliders with brie were worth not ordering seafood for). My husband and I were excited to try Harpers. We made a last minute reservation that we didn't need at the 6 o'clock hour. It was a nice day so we sat at a table outside on the bar side. Harpers needs a lot of work. Nice kids running the place but untrained. No trained bartender. We must have had 6 different people come to our table. I had to snag kids to ask for everything. They brought food with no setups, no salt and pepper, no napkins, no ketchup etc... etc... We ordered mussels, the chicken sandwich, and rockfish tacos. Mussels were good. Chicken and rockfish were very dry and just not good. No one asked how the food was or checked on us at all. We asked about the steak prices ... filet was cheapest at $48. New York was $88 and went up from there to the Tomahawk for 2 at $160. I certainly would never spend that kind of money there with the untrained staff that we saw. It is a nice setting. Maybe, if they get their act together, we will go back for appetisers and wine. read more

I was part of a party of six that had dinner here recently. All-in-all, the experience was a positive one, but not without some bumps that need to be put out there. We tried several appetizers: The Buffalo Wings, the Philly Rolls & the Baked Brie. All the appetizers were tasty and well proportioned. This alone left us excited for the entrees to come. There were an assortment of entrees ordered: The Jumbo Lump Crab Cakes, Coconut Shrimp, Filet Mignon & The Apple Spinach Salad. The Lump Crab Cakes were outstanding! Very good flavor, no filler. The Coconut Shrimp were very large and tasty, another home run. The Fillet came out properly cooked and was what you expect from a fillet. Here's where the rub comes in: Those who ordered the Apple Spinach Salad's were asked if they wished to add protein to their salads. My wife said "Yes, I'd like to add shrimp to my salad". Ok, fine... When the salad came out, my wife was perplexed to find the salad include One, yes One Shrimp! When my wife contacted the server about this, she said "Oh, yes, It's $5 per shrimp, so I assumed you just wanted one shrimp." Um.... Really? You're in what is supposed to a high end dining experience and you get one shrimp in your salad? Gives a new meaning to "Shrimp Salad". I'm sorry, but this is just silly. At a minimum, when someone adds a protein to their salad, it should be what the industry believes is a serving size. I would expect at least 4 shrimp, not 1 lonely shrimp. In the end, my wife added 4 more shrimp to her salad to the tune of $20 additional. Thus, making the Apple Spinach Salad just about as expensive as the Jumbo Lump Crap Cake Platter. I will add that the server felt bad for the mixup/lack of communication and brought out a dessert on the house. We were very appreciative of her efforts and not oblivious to the fact that she's just serving what management has decided is appropriate. I really think this "Per Shrimp" policy should be readdressed because it made the whole dinning experience feel cheap and micro managed. I did order coffee at the end of the meal and it came out cold. I didn't even send it back, I just called it a night and moved on. The service was very good, our server was attentive, patient and friendly. The ambiance is ok, it's a very noisy restaurant and I found it hard to talk to everyone at our table. I would prefer a little quieter environment because I have hearing issues, but it wasn't terrible. In the end, a party of six that was drinking mixed drinks and wine ended up spending $90 a head. I don't consider this to be outrageous considering what other restaurants charge, but I expect an excellent experience when spending this type of money. I won't say our experience was terrible, but I also won't say it was excellent. I realize this restaurant is just getting off the ground, so hopefully they can work out the wrinkles and realize areas that need adjustment. With that said, we'll be back again and see if things have improved or are deteriorating. read more
