Alexander's once before, and it was good enough for me to come back--and it did not disappoint. For this area, the cost was surprisingly budget‑friendly, especially considering the quality. The town center around it has clearly changed, with several stores and restaurants closed and even the old adjacent parking lot gone. But once we walked inside, the experience was excellent. Our server was friendly, helpful, and honest with her recommendations. My daughter and I both ordered the Chicken Palermo, and it was outstanding--fresh, tasty, and served in portions that rival anything back home in Texas. For a restaurant with a full bar, it was surprising they had no mezcal and were supposedly out of top-shelf bourbon, yet still served me a drink that tasted overly sweet and nothing like the premium bourbon I ordered. Another letdown was the lack of bread service. Other J. Alexander's locations usually serve croissants, so having none available took away from the experience. The food didn't make up for it either. The steak lacked flavor and felt low quality for the price. The "fried chicken platter" was basically oversized chicken tenders marketed as an entrée, and the mac and cheese was watery and bland instead of rich and creamy. Joined a friend here for a birthday dinner and had a great experience from start to finish. The valet parking was convenient, which set the tone right away. The restaurant itself is beautiful inside--clean, well-designed, and has a really nice, relaxed atmosphere. The staff were friendly, attentive, and made us feel welcome without being overbearing. I ordered the prime rib and salad and it was excellent--fresh, well-balanced, and the steak was cooked just right. I also had the parmesan baked potato, and it was perfection. We also tried the rattlesnake pasta--very flavorful, but a bit too spicy for me personally. My friend loved it though, so if you enjoy a good kick, it's definitely worth trying. First of all, this is one of my FAVORITE places!! Their steak Maui is sublime! But today my lunch was very subpar. The server was young and didn't know the menu. She brought the wrong beer. My steak was not cooked to the correct temperature. I had asked it to be cut into strips by the chef. He did not. And my steak was thin, which may have been why it was cooked over. The bread was very chewy--stale? The girl was friendly but very green and there was no management support. For the money, the food and the service were VERY disappointing. The highlight was the watermelon salad. So light and fresh!! Yummy. Anyway, I just expect better in high end Annapolis restaurants. Maybe because it was lunch and it wasn't busy? It's an elevated casual establishment with really good American food and a great wine, spirits and cocktail menu too. We were sweaty from being out all day so we opted for the bar. Ambiance is upscale/casual if that makes sense. We passed J.Alexander's a trillion times before deciding to pop in for lunch with our mini one day, and I'm glad we finally checked them out. I thought the service was really attentive because multiple of their staff members checked on us and attended to our needs during a weekend, late afternoon visit. They were also clean inside with classy decor that felt appropriate for a business meeting, celebrating a special occasion, date night, or for having a nice family dinner. I loved my grilled artichoke and thought the Hong Kong shrimp was really tasty and flavorful. I also thoroughly enjoyed the Caesar with lots of anchovies but I was stuffed after having those items and sharing some of baby girls chicken tenders and fries so I didnt order an entree for myself. Hubby had the Maui steak and said it was pretty bland and lacked any hint of the marinade described and he didn't like the mashed potatoes he said tasted boxed, so 4 stars are because i thought J. Excited to see another quality restaurant pop up in Annapolis Town Center and found the perfect time to make that trip. Mother's Day 2025 it is!! Mom dressed in her Sunday's best, and was treated like a star. So many staff members stopped by our table to compliment how pretty she was. We didn't even have to eat, she was overwhelmed just by that.. Lol The food was outstanding. My all time favorite steak is the "Houston's Hawaiian" Ribeye and J. Alexander's must have stolen one of their chefs because their "Steak Maui" is identical to the Houston's Hawaiian!! I was in heaven! My mother really enjoyed her jumbo fried shrimp but her loaded baked potato took the cake!! J. Alexander is borderline upscale but reasonably priced if you're not trying to spend a fortune for a quality meal. Our first visit to J. Alexander's was the perfect way to end a great date night after the movies! The restaurant has a very nice vibe--warm, inviting, and perfect for a relaxed evening out. From start to finish, the service was excellent, and our server, Billy, took great care of us. The shrimp appetizer was so good, and the salad was extremely fresh. For entrées, the King Cut Prime Rib was cooked to perfection, and the Mahi Mahi with crab special was absolutely delicious--grilled perfectly with an almost Cajun blackened seasoning that was amazing. This was my first time trying J.Alexander and it just opened a few months ago in Annapolis. I popped in one afternoon for lunch with my girlfriend. It's a really beautiful restaurant perfect for a lunch meeting or a date. There is a huge bar, high tops, and quite a few tables up the ramp. My server for lunch was Mariah. She recommended great suggestions for our first visit & took great care of us. In addition to her, management even stopped by to make sure everything was to our liking. That was a special touch to let us know they care about their guest experiences. For drinks, I tried a couple martinis. I tried two of their handcrafted cocktails. I love that the martinis come with a little extra on the side. It's like 2 drinks for the price of 1. The bartender balanced them really nice. I highly recommend the Fleur-de-lis. For appetizers, we tried the Hong Kong shrimp, avocado bomb, and Huevo rolls off the special menu. The portion sizes were great and everything was flavorful. For entrees, I ordered the lobster roll and substituted the fries for the lemon Reggiano broccoli. My friend ordered the prime rib. For a side we were dying to try the not your ordinary Mac so we added that as well. The food came out in a timely manner. Let me just say both meals were AMAZING! I loved how they dressed the lobster roll up and the meat was so fresh! That broccoli is by far the best I had from a restaurant. I came home and tried to remake it for my lunch the next day. I sampled my friend's Prime Rib. It was cooked to perfection. I definitely can't wait to go back and order my own on the next visit. The Mac was really good for a restaurant. I usually don't order Mac at restaurants because not everyone can do Mac n Chz correct. They baked this Mac to perfection. I will def be ordering that again too. My partner and I used to visit a J. Alexander in Atlanta. It's been over 10 years but the nostalgia is still there. Here in Annapolis, the food was 10/10 Filet mignon and steak and frites - do it! The Fish was tasty and the mashed potatoes were GREAT!!! The Mac & Cheese is definitely not ordinary. There was a tangy taste that I could do without. It was missing something but the rest of my food was so good I could easily overcook it. My wife ordered the Steak Brazil with mashed Potatoes & Broccoli. She also enjoyed her food. I've heard good things about this place so I decided to stop by. They did a great job with the decor and design of the space. It's definitely an upgrade from the last restaurant that was here. For the appetizer, I had the calamari. No complaints there. It was perfectly fried calamari with marinara sauce. For my entrée, I got the special that day, which was steak brazzo with mashed potatoes and broccoli. The Madeira sauce, mashed potatoes, broccoli were good, but I wasn't a fan of the steak. Because of the way the dish is prepared, you don't get to choose how you want the steak cooked. The way that it was cooked was a little too done for my liking. This restaurant has excellent customer service. Once I notified my waiter of the issue, he brought me a menu so I could order something else. I selected the Nashville hot chicken sandwich. It was a large piece of chicken dipped in hot sauce served with slaw and pickles on a brioche bun. Delicious. The sandwich has a little kick but I wound't consider it spicy, which is fine by me. We were attended asap by the host. Upon entry, you get this Intimate feel and the candle lights made it feel idyllic. For starters we had the calamari ! Yum, cooked to crisp. The marinara was top with parmesan. Wine, draft and craft beer available. Def recommend the midnight margarita, and the untitled art. Our dinner entrees were tasteful and cooked to perfection. We were in town for the Annapolis Power Boat Show and staying at the Double Tree Hotel on Holiday Court. While going on a walk, we found this place. It was around eight at night. It looked crowded inside, so we decided to see what the menu looked like and if any tables were available. One of the hostesses saw us coming and opened the door for us. They showed us a menu that looked well-rounded and had things we were interested in, and then we were seated right away. Immediately, a waiter greeted us, brought us water, and ordered our drinks. Then our real waiter came and introduced himself and told us about the specials for the evening. So let me say something about the service. It was well-coordinated teamwork. Because our waiter was busy with another table, another waiter jumped in, so we were not waiting long. That is impressive! We ordered the Midnight margarita, Vodka mule, Fire-grilled artichokes, pecan-encrusted trout, Street corn, and Not your ordinary Mac and cheese. The Midnight margarita came in a non-stemmed, short, but stubby glass. It was made with Corazón Reposado Tequila, Cointreau, Black Cherry Jam, and Pink Himalayan Salt. I was balanced superbly. It looked and tasted sophisticated. It was probably the best margarita I've had. And I've been to Mexico many times. The Vodka mule had Wheatley Vodka and Fever Tree Ginger Beer. It, too, was well-balanced, had the right amount of ice, and was not watered down. That bartender knows what they are doing! Fire-grilled artichokes. They were marinated and basted over an open fire with a herbed cream dipping sauce. They looked beautiful and tasted juicy and delicious. Because you eat this with your hands, a waitress brought wet, heated towels to cleanse them. One of the best things on the menu! The Pecan-encrusted trout was perfectly filleted and butterflied, sat on top of a bed of seasoned pearl couscous, and had a side of steamed and buttered broccoli. There was also a swipe of sauce for dipping. That dish was excellent. The Street corn was off-the-cob, perfectly seasoned with Mexican spices and silky with crunch. It was like crack. It didn't last long. Not your ordinary Mac and cheese. Indeed, there was nothing normal about it. They may have used gruyere cheese, but it was...sophisticated. It was an adult mac and cheese with a crumb topping. Like a bowl of Lucky Charms, it was magically delicious. From start to finish, J Alexander's staff was a well-oiled machine. They were attentive, personal, and efficient, and genuinely cared about their jobs, co-workers, customers, and most importantly, their food. We learned that this location has only been open for a week (as of this review). I couldn't believe how coordinated they were. I was definitely surprised with this restaurant. We had no problem scheduling a reservation on Resy. I didn't know what to expect walking in but the ambiance was very pleasant. The only tidbit I'd mention is that the scallions are on top AND inside. (Just an FYI if you're not really a fan of true scallion flavor.) For the entree, I ordered the "Steak Brazzo" from the daily menu. I was steak medallions, on top of mashed potatoes and mushroom gravy, with broccoli. The broccoli was tasty. I think they added lemon when cooking it. The mash and gravy was great, not bland and not too salty. The steak was cooked pretty nice. The flavor was interesting. It definitely tasted like they marinated in vinegar or something. The initial bite of each piece of meat was good but then it definitely had the vinegarish kick as an after taste. So I'm still contemplating on how I feel about it. Overall, I think it's a pretty good spot. The food came out very timely. Whenever we needed assistance, other servers eagerly jumped to help. Wonderful time with great friends. We did have an extended wait time, even with arriving 30 minutes early. Once seated, we had a great waitress who went over the menu and suggested a few items. I was looking at the chicken strips with fries and asked her if the dish was good. She proceeded to tell me it was the best chicken she had ever had. I inquired if she had the chicken stips from Chili's ( they are really good, IMO). She had not, so I asked her how she would compare them to Chick fil'A. Told me again that they these are better. I was convinced that I was going to have the best chicken strips that I ever had. With her glowing recommendation, I order the chicken strips. They came out with some cole slaw and shoestring French Fries and immediately dived in to try a strip. I will say that the strips are good but they don't compare to the others. They have their own distint taste and are good, but I wouldn't tell anyone they are the best ever. Everyone in my group enjoyed their meal. I attended a friend's birthday dinner if you weeks ago and I was surprised by a few things. I'm running out of dessert although I ordered it before I ordered my meal them charging for a birthday dessert. I've been to many establishments that have run out of dessert so I know to order before I order my main course but I was a little upset that although our server offered it to us, they failed to mention they were out of it until I specifically ordered it. It's a good note to request your dessert as soon as you sit down. I did not see an entree that piqued my fancy so I decided to try two appetizers instead and ordered the avocado bomb and calamari. The avocado bomb was bland and desperately needed some spice. The calamari was fried so hard and crispy you could almost see through it. I ended up having to send it back I ordered the lobster roll instead. Also, nothing to write home about. Hi I just wasn't impressed. Although the decor was really nice and the bar seemed to have a lot of different options, I just was not impressed at all. The wait staff and servers were very attentive though. Excellent service, comfortable business casual atmosphere! Loved our booth seating. We were anticipating the artichoke appetizer but they were sold out. Darn. My girlfriend told me they were good. Ok. Now we have to come back. We ordered the calamari and it did not disappoint. Loved the marinara sauce with the lightly crisped calamari, battered perfectly--not too thick and heavy but light and crisp! Yum. We had salads for our light dinner and thoroughly enjoyed the fried chicken salad - wow they were generous with the chicken! Loved this place and our server.
