I had crabcakes from four places during my visit to the area. The Crab Shack's were the Best by far (G&M: wasn't as lumpy in the good way, Jerry's: was good but didn't have me returning, and Full On's: Grilled Cheese Crabcake was entertainingly decadent but the crab was dry). If I were still in the area, I'd be back at The Crab Shack in a heartbeat. I don't think I've every had such huge lumps of crab so lightly coated in a delicate sauce. Update as of 4/5/2026. One of my favorite places has let me down for the last couple of orders. Prior to placing the online order, I called the location and spoke to David. I wanted to confirm that the crawfish was fresh and not frozen. I had noticed in some previous order that food didn't taste fresh. David kindly confirmed it was fresh and this was the prime time to enjoy. (David was helpful) I ordered the Fish basket that comes with fries and coleslaw. You have the option to select cat fish or rock fish (selected the rock). I also got Cajun boiled that comes with potato, shrimp, corn. I included three orders of the crawfish in the boil. The family was disappointed, many of the crawfish was NOT fresh and many of the tails were mushy. It's like it was frozen and overcooked to the point of texture was ruined. Out of all the crawfish three were fresh. Highly disappointed. The flavor We got was the shack medium spice but it was flavorless. The rockfish was extremely dry from the inside but crispy from the batter. The French fries had to be place in the air fryer and add our own seasoning. The coleslaw was the best out of everything. I would like to know what happen? I used to order from here all the time once it opened. The food was fresh and you could tell. Who ever made my food when I first review this spot. Came here for Mother's Day and I'm already planning my next trip back. My mom and I were both not crazy hungry, so we shared #4 combo for $55 which has a crab cake, two sides, and I think 3 or 4 crabs. Wow was it good, the corn was fresh and delicious with their melted butter. The crabs were meaty and seasoned perfectly. We both did not love the crab cake, but I am not a huge crab cake person so take that with a grain of salt. The service was super friendly. I did not know they had melted butter out for anyone to grab, so I asked for some and the employee who helped me came out from behind the counter and poured me some, which was so nice. The drinks here are also only $6 for an orange crush, which is almost unheard of for this area. The outside seating makes me feel like im at the beach, and definitely made the experience even better. Visited here a few days ago. We ordered jumbo crabs (which weren't jumbo), seafood boil , orange pomegranate crush and clam strips. The crabs were ok I've had better and bigger. The jumbo were $125 which was a good price but the size just didn't match the price. The crab legs were extremely small as well. The clam strips were so good and the crush was too. Customer service was good overall but most likely won't be returning. read more

Outside it was crispy. And there was not a lot of filler. All in all the crab cake met expectations. The fries were terrible. I asked for them extra crispy and they were anything but. They seemed a little bit stale. Service could not have been better. Dining room was clean. Plenty of convenient parking. Salad was mediocre. I paid 62 dollars for 7 shrimp and a cluster of crab legs which were just mush . I couldn't even get the meat out the shells. After a few mins the butter turned to sludge. The crab legs also had A fishy taste like they have been reheated more then once. As for the oysters. They were so tiny I couldn't even barely get them off the shell. Food: HITS - Onion rings have delicious battering, and onion itself has beautifully cooked yet firm texture. Fried calmari well cooked with firm texture. Lemon aioli tastes more like vinaigrette with strong flavors - absolutely delightful! Rib shooters have flavorful sauce without being overpoweringly spicy. Pork is tender and rich. Cocktail sauce light and just the right amount of heat MISSES - Fried green tomato special not worth eating. Overcooked slippery tomato, batter/ breading slips off, crab sauce seems to be there to hide poor execution. Fried bay scallops were what i'd expect from grocery store frozen scallops. read more

I am a long time Edgewater/Mayo resident. This was my first time at the Crab Shack. I was pleasantly surprised at the quality of the Crabs, which were cooked to perfection. Bayside Inn in Mayo was my go to place, but closed. The 2 beers (16 oz.) for $6 was a good deal. Friendly staff and nice family people were eating there. It was better than I was imagining. Their crabs are so meaty and we absolutely loved the service! Really appreciate that they allow you to choose the spice level since we personally do not love too much old bay seasoning on our crabs! I'm visiting from out of town and stopped by here for a crab cake after eating lunch at another establishment that had less than stellar crab cakes lol! I was greeted with a friendly hello when I walked in which is awesome! Some restaurants need to understand that being acknowledged when you walk in is very important and a big part of the customer experience! The place is nice, bright, and had some good music playing. I ordered the 8oz crab cake with grilled veggies to go. I also got a small Maryland crab soup to compare it to the place I just left from having lunch. The crab cake was everything I expected it to be! Big lump crab meat pieces with little filler just to hold it together! The dipping sauce was tasty and went perfectly with it! The grilled veggies were nice big pieces of zucchini, yellow squash. and red onion. The soup was a little salty and not as good as the one I had earlier from another restaurant. I've been looking for a nice casual seafood place after Annapolis Seafood closed, but this is not the place. While the employees were very nice and helpful for us first-timers, the food was lacking. The clam strips looked promising, large handbreaded pieces, but there were many that were gritty which ruined the flavor. The cream of crab soup had an overwhelming sherry flavor. The fish was fishy, like it wasn't the freshest. I will say that the fries were good OC-style French fries and serving the sweet and crispy hush puppies with honey butter was a nice touch.
