The service is excellent and the fish is always fresh and delicious. The chicken is very tasty sprinkled with a special seasoning.

Food was good. I liked the chicken gizzards and liver. Not a big fan of the cat fish nuggets though. It has an aftertaste which is common with fishes grown in the fishpond/farmed fish. Alright, now, in my trip to MD, we were everywhere. All areas have their thing, so when we reached this area, I knew I had to get some of that "crack" chicken and fish from Hip Hop. Everything fried here is pretty basic. What hypes it up is the seasoning they use, which is a pungent lemon pepper mix. Believe me when I tell you, there is a reason it's known as crack. It's this powdery white magic that makes everything it touches addicting af. We had the wings, fish, gizzard, and fries. It really improved the taste of everything, and paired with hotsauce, it was a hangover dream! Service was more southern than further southern states I've been in all around the coast. I heard a saying "The dirtier the inside of the establishment is, the better the food" and that basically held true. When I saw the menu on the TV mess up and switch channels by accident I just knew the food would be good. I got the 5 pc wings with mac and cheese and sweet potatoes. I was underwhelmed with the mac & cheese. There's nothing stopping someone from walking 20 seconds to the Popeyes's and getting a much better/put together side of mac & cheese. The fried chicken however was incredible with the honey mustard. The lemon pepper seasoning they added was just perfection imo it made me exited to take my next bite even when I was chewing. So happy they're finally here!!! I legit have been waiting for this place to open since I first saw the sign that they were "coming soon" about a year ago. And now they finally are :) If you've never experienced hip hop fish and chicken, you should! As their motto says, "Great tasting food at a great price!" They're not joking about that. If you don't know where to start, I would suggest the value meal (under $5) just to get a taste. I can bet you'll be hooked. It's something about that "crack" (joking) they put on there. I ordered a 2-PC Chicken meal, and an extra 1-PC trout. Both come with fries, sliced bread, and coleslaw. Was hoping you could just add on a piece of meat to a meal, as I didn't really want double servings of the sides, but they're inexpensive enough that it's not a big deal. I got delivery through UberEats. First off, there's utterly no safety or security on the food delivery. It's a plastic bag, not even tied shut, with a cardboard box in it, which isn't sealed. At all. We keep seeing videos of delivery drivers snacking or otherwise tampering with food -- enough to have mostly turned me off from using the services -- and, especially during the Pandemic, places need to be taking safety seriously. And, yea, even after. Hey, Hip Hop, if you're reading this, UberEats will actually give you seals. Neither of the two meals had coleslaw included. I hate coleslaw, so I'm not super fussed. Would be nice if they allowed for substitution on sides. The amount of fries with the meals was generous, but they weren't very good. Just not really flavourful at all. Each meal had a heavily breaded, browned, fried blob in it. The seasoning is so strong that it actually took me a minute to determine if I had started on the trout or the chicken. The seasoning is really, really sweet, and also salty. I don't know the ingredient list, but I would guess that it's 90% sugar and salt. It was like eating overly salty fried food that had been dragged through a doughnut machine. The meats themselves were overcooked. The chicken was dry, the fish was practically a dried out piece of breaded jerky. I ate about half of one piece of chicken, and half of the fish, then binned it. Pretty disappointed. I have ordered from here many times and service has always been consistent. Even late into the evening some food delivery apps still service them. I always get their fries, hush puppies, banana pudding, catfish nuggets and their wings of course. Great place to order large portions of sides and wings. They really stuff each box with plenty of food. Seasoning and the frying here is always on point. The perfect temperature and salt in every bite. So happy this chain came to this side of town. Oh my goodness. No longer am I in mourning over the passing of Horace and Dickie's in the H St NE area. (we still have the TP branch.) I finally got to visit Hip Hop in Burtonsville and I don't miss H&Ds as much. I got a dinner box with two pieces of perch, two of whiting. The dinner comes with fries and slaw (or bread). Everything in the box was great. Another review mentioned the perch was boring or bland - not the case! Perch has a light taste and HipHop's cornmeal coating enhances, and doesn't mask, its flavor. I even liked the fries. Whiting is a DC standby and hold its own against hot sauce. The prices are reasonable and affordable. read more

So good, I am addicted! It is good I don't live in the DMV because I am addicted to Hip Hop Fish and Chicken. The white seasoning they put on top add to the flavor already fried in the food. Plus they are reasonably price and the workers are friendly. I went twice while visiting and tried the coconut cake, catfish, shrimp, whiting and fries. The whiting and shrimp combo ($12.95) was my favorite. They is perfectly cooked and flavorful. The catfish and shrimp ($10.99) was what I tried first. Their special seasoning is like crack to me and their wings are fried to perfection! The fries are enjoyable, but I love their onion rings. I've also tried their potato salad, which is solid. They are always on point, and provided hot sauce is tasty and provided in generous amounts. More of a cornmeal style breading. I've passed by this location a few times and finally decided to try it out today , best decision ever. The inside is set up as carry out only , their are no chair at all for sitting. While they do not carry mumbo sauce there barbecue sauce is off the chain. I ordered 2 piece whiting fish with shrimp with fries and hush puppies . New place in Briggs Chaney. My first visit. About what I expected from the name. They screwed up my order and have me 6 wings instead of the 5 legs I ordered. Aside from that, the quality is nice. The onion rings are crispy and the hush puppies are wonderful too. The onion ring batter is nicely spiced with a hint of heat and not too much salt. They have a wide selection of typical soul food sides and sauces. There were about a dozen customers waiting on orders after 6pm on a Wednesday, but I placed my order as soon as I had figured out what I wanted and the time waiting was about how long it takes to cook the food. I was really excited to try this place. It had been under construction for almost a year. We don't have many chicken places close to where I live, so I have literally been stalking this place waiting for it to open. Well on this wet snowy day, I decided to stop in. I'm from DC so I love carryouts. This place was filled with people, which is always a good sign. I ordered the 10 chicken wing platter, the shrimp platter, chicken finger meal and fried whiting. They messed up my order and I ended up receiving double the fish order and no chicken fingers for my daughter. The food itself is very flavorful. Both kids really enjoyed it, including the one now stuck with eating fish. For the location to be new, the outer area was not very clean. Like it didn't scream we just opened. But the cooking area was organized as well as the refrigerated sections. I will be going back. Minus the wrong order the food was quite tasty.
