No greeting just silence and then got hung up on after a second of them picking up. I called again and they finally young lady decided to answer with a greeting. Upon arriving to grab our LG dozen... we've always been able to stack military discount and the online coupon for $5 off since our last visit. I even confirmed with the cashier during our last visit because I thought that was really nice of them. The young lady cashiering this time around had no remorse or explanation but a "NO" just military or the coupon. Came here for the first time on a Sunday afternoon and was a bit confused at first because you have to pass through the same gate with guard shack as the tractor trailers to get to the business. Don't worry, you'll know you're at the right place by the big old parked trailer that says "open to public drive up to gate"! We were looking for fresh and reasonably priced white fish so we got a pound of whiting. It was great pan fried for dinner and the ladies at the counter that helped us out were quite nice. If I am not mistaken, the market receives daily fresh seafood shipments. Once inside, you're greeted with so many seafood options -- from fish to shrimp, conch, and much more. During my most recent visit, I purchased snapper and salmon. Both were amazingly fresh. I opted for them to clean and scale the snapper for me. When I got home, we ended scaling the fish a bit more. A staple in Jessup! Hey I've been going here for years and have never been disappointed!!! They have all the fish you're looking for....im from the Midwest so I had a craving for jack salmon/whiting and whole catfish that can be cut into steaks. This place previously would just filet or cut the heads off but now they give you five ways of cutting your fish for which I think is great!!!! $1 crabs from Saturday were AMAZING. We're serious about steamed blue crabs in MD and while there are loads of places that sell them - you pick a good one and stick with them. This spot is amazing. I love this place for the fresh seafood and the selection, but especially for the terrific service and the pleasure of shopping here. We wanted to make a bouillabaisse, and found everything we needed in this rather small well-stocked fresh market. The secret of the traditional recipe is to use almost-all fresh seafood, no fresh-water fare, and maybe a little bit of frozen seafood. Traditionally it's fishermen's stew, so really, only add one "splurge" ingredient. The iced tables had at least 40 types of whole and trimmed seafood, with several more in the freezer. In two-thirds of the store it's self-serve, and everywhere you select the exact ones you want. Gloves and trays are provided, and if you like, bring the whole fish to the window in the back and they are happy to trim it the way you want it. In February, we got fresh hake, mussels, and shrimp. The mussels were so clean that when we prepared them at home, we found that they were already almost-all beardless and completely without a grain of sand! We added some frozen haddock for variety. And for a special touch we added fresh rockfish, just enough to gently simmer separately to be sure every guest was served a portion on top of the rest. For the stock, we asked for some fresh-cut trimmings of whatever anyone just bought, and the amazing manager gave us a huge de-filleted grouper, cut in half for us to fit our stewpot! The porgies we cooked today were super fresh. We also purchased snapper, shrimp, and salted cod that we froze for another day. I am planning a shrimp and grits meal next. The prices were expensive; 4- snapper fish was $60+ dollars. Well everything is expensive these days. We arrived early about 9:30 am. When we were leaving about 15 people came in so we went just in time. The patrons were friendly and we exchanged stories and information about fish. I have recently discovered a fondness for chargrilled oysters! I found that Wild Seafood sells fresh oysters, however they are not cleaned or shucked! No problem to this novice! This gem is close to my home with most hours of 9-5 with the exception of Fridays and Sundays! The location is nestled in a warehouse area when you must go through a gate to enter! I've never paid for parking so that's not an issue! Upon entry near a loading dock, the store front is small but there is wall to wall seafood! The oysters are right up front! And on most occasions, they have three types at differing sizes and price points! I have purchased the VA Salts which are small but about $16/dozen! I have also purchased the Glidden Points which are $27/dozen I believe! The Glidden Points are a lot bigger! They were not shucked however and I asked about how to and the young lady advised me to go to YouTube University but be very. Careful not to cut your hands! I also purchased the Scottish Salmon which was amazing however it was about $21.99/lb! I have also purchase catfish as well as red snapper which I have had cleaned and cut to my liking! And if you are not certain how you like your fish cut, they have a board that is very detailed to advise of cutting styles! The staff here are very nice and friendly fly and very knowledgeable! I was on the search for a seafood market close to home where I could get some crabmeat. Luckily, I came across Wild Seafood on Yelp. When you arrive, you will have to go through a security gate which may throw you off but you are in the right place. Once I got inside, I was impressed with the selection of fresh seafood they had available. My main focus during this visit was crabmeat to make crab cakes but I will definitely return to try out some of the other seafood they have available. There was an employee out on the floor who assisted me with picking out two containers of crabmeat from the ice and bagged it up for me. She even offered to bag up my crabmeat with ice which I appreciated since I was traveling with it and could use the extra ice. While my crabmeat was being bagged, I paid for it and was out the door shortly. I will definitely return. God I wish I found Wild Seafood sooner. I've been dying to have some good quality seafood, and shopping here feels like being at the pier again. Yes the entrance is super sketch, but Waze is taking you to the right place. Once you pull into the warehouse-looking plaza after the gate, you're there. Just follow the signs and you'll be greeted with so much fresh fish on ice, at prices honestly cheaper than a lot of those frozen fish boxes you can get monthly. If you're interested in any fish, just check the pic in the back corner for how you want it cut/fileted, but the guys are super helpful figuring out how to handle new fish with you. I've been maybe 2-3 times and there's definitely be fish swaps to go with the seasons, not just keeping a selection for the sake of it. And if that ain't your style, they also have other options like mussels and shrimps of various sizes to bring home. The real kicker is bringing home steamed crab and shrimp in a bag. It's a little cheaper to get the crab already cold, but it's so damn good even compared to a bunch of crab shack brick and mortars. Other accessory purchases will include Old Bay seasoning and pretty much anything your pantry needs to cook up seafood. This is nothing at all like the slickly produced Food Network fish being thrown across the stall fish market. Wild seafood is plain, smelly (in that good way), wet floor mat, nothing pretty no ambiance at all, slightly intimidating way that I love. Went for the first time yesterday. I have seen the sign along Rt175 all the years I lived in the area. The other thing I secretly dig is that the staff is very nice but not "helpful"...they let you stand around wide eyed and lost. Allowing me to get my own bearings without someone trying to steer me, or force a quick choice is a great feature. On this trip got bag of mussels (had been craving since getting back here from IL), and a pre-packed but premium tuna steaks for the missus. This is not a cheap place, although I would imagine a chef/experienced buyer can have a more refined outcome. I want to come back and try some whole fish (they clean them). I usually frequent this place since being they have fresh fish always. Went there to 07/06/2022 and two-Hispanic ladies working the front. Lady with the orange company shirt was pretty friendly, lady with blue company shirt was not friendly at all. This lady rang up my purchase, no good morning or how are you? Never said place credit card in machine to pay and most of all "no thank you, come again or have a nice day." I guess she was upset because she had to stop wiping down the aluminum stands where they keep the oysters and salmon on display. This was around 9:30 a.m., and if it was a problem to stop, then she should have cleaned everything prior to business opening. I have to say this place is great for crabs! I purchased the mixed medium and large male crabs for $59.00 They were freshly steamed and at a very good size. The crabs had large lump meat and l enjoyed every bite! they also have many specials. I noticed upon entering they had you could purchase medium size cold crabs for $1.00 as well. They had the hot one's in a large bin. They have all types of fresh fish. Craw fish, lobster. You name it. They have it. Oh and they also can clean your fish for you.
