They added peas to a traditional plate that has no peas ... flavor was good but the cut of meat they use wasn't the correct one as a lomo saltado is known for it's tender meat the one they use had nerves and you can see the color of the meat doesn't look like the traditional one . Overall flavor wasn't bad but it wasn't to what I've had at other Peruvian restaurants ... This is a tiny establishment that would generally not be ok my radar, but I drive by so often I figured why not. It's got quite a few tables, a lot of llama pictures, and a very cozy environment. It was bigger than I anticipated, but they had so much more options than chicken that most Peruvian places have. Our server was super nice and patient, even though she was the only one and there were a few tables to handle. I ordered papas de la huanciana, fried fish (I forgot what it was called), lomo sotaldo, and a tres leches. I *love* papa de la huanciana, but this is the only place that I've seen it on the menu so I was super excited. It tasted just like how I remembered it, when a friend made it for me years ago. The fried fish dish was so good! There are a few bones in it, but manageable. I didn't eat the lomo saltado, but it looked delicious. The tres leches is a must buy. I think this is one of the better ones I've had from all the places I've tried. There are many neighboring venues and happy we chose the Mi Peru It is very clean, well lit and with beautiful wall murals of Peru There is a very extensive menu posted on window and I was immediately impressed as I thought it served solely delicious Peruvian chicken The owners? (Or employees) are hospitable and polite and I am guessing it is an independent establishment and not a chain. Came here after church with a group of friends. Really solid Lomo Saltado and selection of authentic Peruvian soups, desserts, and beverages. The owners, as the name suggest, tienen mucho orgullo en su cultura peruana y se nota. My sister took me here to get me cultured to some Peruvian food and omg I was taken away by how delicious everything was. The people working here were welcoming and kind as well! We got the aji de gallina which is a rice dish with shredded chicken smothered in a creamy yummy sauce. The chicken was juicy and not dry at all! I tend to stay away from chicken dishes as they can either be a hit or miss and most the time it is a miss for me, but not here at Mi Peru!! It was definitely a hit that left a good impression on me. The pupusas were also delicious as we got the pork and cheese filling one. I like to add the cabbage on top to add a little bit of flavor to it, and of course they do have some house special sauces to add as an option! I'm not an expert, but I feel like many other places around are better for peruvian food. We got the ceviche mixto, lomo saltado, aji de gallina, fried plantains and peruvian chicken. Nothing blew me away, but they were all good enough to order again if I were to come back. Well, other than the plantains... I'm not too sure if she understood what I wanted though (language barriers always killing me!) I wanted the fried/soft plantains. They boast about how some famous chef came up with the recipe for the roasted chicken, but it didn't live up to the hype. As for the lomo, it was decent. Fries were crispy, meat was good, but flavor was just so/so. Aji and ceviche were so/so Waitress was really nice. Food came out quick. Price for all that was about $80 (w/ tip). I am unfortunately unable to give this place five stars because of the confusing message on the menu - it says tip is included on parties greater than 6, but for whatever reason, it was already included on our party of 2. This time the service u a little slow it took us about 20min to get our food and it was hard to get refill on our drinks.. And this time there was two server. I work in a bar service industry, this where I hate when the service is slow and on top of all the server applies service tip on our check. And normally u would only add to a party of 6 or more. Mi Peru is the only restaurant I patronize frequently and have an actual meal. My favorite is churrasco a lo pobre, a steak entree. I make a play on the word pobre, poor, and I call it churrasco a lo rico, rich, wealthy, but in this case tasty. Service is good till it comes to getting a check, at least for me. I always have to wait longer. As usual I get special treatment which isn't a good thing. Worse than that is this old waitress who is there on Sundays and she stops more than once at somebody's table to see how they're doing, she never stops at my table. The only other complaint I have is the time I simply asked for rice and chicken and the young waitress, modelo, model, as I call them as part of a pun on Modelo beer, brought me a typical Chinese Peruvian dish which I did not enjoy at all. I go there for Spanish-American food, emphasis on Spanish, aka European, and not for Chinese food. Modelo? I ask for modelo, again model, because of the waitresses. They have wine now and one wine bottle features a rather naturalistic picture, so I try to make an almost family friendly joke about it. Though my Spanish is not as good as their I can play with the language. Though it seems I've only complained, I really dig the scene (as only Keith Richards and I would say), I mean I really like the restaurant and the service because I stay away on Sundays when la vieja esa (esa vieja in good Spanish, the old lady) is there. read more

the waitress said the pupusas is popular here , the pupusas to me tasted bland . It didn't taste authentic , I had better pupusas somewhere else . They give you SMALL portions of everything . The slaw that comes with the pupusa they give you a small scoop , since you get 2 I would think they should give you more than a baby scoop of slaw cabbage . So I asked her for more I told her it's little. I've ordered the chicken kabob platter they just grilled the chicken and just throw it on the bread no yogurt sauce no toppings or anything just small fries and baby scoop of salad . The only thing I liked was the sauces ( yellow , green) if this is how Peruvian food suppose to taste like , I'm not satisfied . I'm not sure IF Sardis is Peruvian but I had better food there. This place always hits the spot for me and my boyfriend...and all of our friends. It's another hole-in-the-wall kind of place. They are more focused on authentic Peruvian dishes than just rotisserie style chicken. So far, I've tried: Quesadillas Empanadas Rotisserie Chicken Milanesa - chicken Chicharones - both chicken and pork Lomo Saltado and their various steak dishes And for sides: Yucca (super crunchy) Rice (I don't know what they do to it, but it's soooo good) Bean (black) Fried Plantains (not too sweet, just right) *you can also change your sides that come with the dishes at no extra charge!* EVERTHING TASTES AMAZING!! I haven't come across any dish or side that wasn't good. They even have incredible sauces to go with it! They have a mild white sauce that's more like mayo, but it still mixed with something, and they have a spicy green sauce that's made with the white sauce, jalapenos, and some other ingredients. When you dine in, they don't come in little containers like they do for other Peruvian restaurants. They give you huge bottles to dispense at your leisure. When you take it to-go, they do give you containers, but they aren't as small as the other restaurants AND if you want more, they'll gladly give it to you; they aren't obscenely stingy with it! Another great thing to try when you're there is the Horchata. It's a milky drink with cinnamon and sugar. Now, I'm from Texas and I loved getting Horchata down there from any taco/Mexican food stand. So when I moved up here, I missed getting Horchata. Whenever I would find some, they just didn't taste the same. Mi Peru's, though, brings me back to those blissful days. You can definitely taste the cinnamon. One thing though, make sure to mix it before you drink. The cinnamon tends to fall and settle on the bottom if left alone for too long. I LOVE this restaurant so much and try to come here at least once a week. If you're into authentic Peruvian food, come out here and definitely try something that's not the Rotisserie Chicken. I've officially joined that cult. I've only had pupusas and chicken here, despite going several times. The lady running the restaurant is very sweet, especially with repeat customers (It helps my first time was with a regular). The food is on point. Chicken is moist, delicious and flavorful. Price is killer. Seriously, lunch special during the week is under somewhere around $5.99 I think for a quarter chicken and two sides. You cannot beat that anywhere. The only catch is you don't know what you'll get for sides. For example, you order beans and they could be black or pinto. You order fries: One day they're crinkle cut, the next day they're straight. But the chicken is always the same and always delicious. Service is incredibly quick. Normally our food comes out with the appetizers. For a quick and reasonably healthy super cheap lunch you can't beat this place. Seriously. read more

We had the Peruvian chicken and an appetizer (forgot the name) which was a fried patty with ground beef. Both dishes were very good. The chicken was very flavorful and tender, not dry at all like some other places. The green hot sauce is also very good, not too hot so its not too overpowering but definitely a good kick to it. The service was good as well. The waiter for attentive, polite and organized. They also have a lot of pictures from Peru that were nice to look at and added to the ambiance. I was almost afraid that when I went away to school for 4 yrs and returned, that it would be gone, but Grace be to God! It was still there! My family and I stumbled upon the place after church one Sunday..we were looking for something quick to eat. Their menu had the usual Peruvian dishes: chicken, lomo saltado, etc. We decided to go with the Parrillada Peruana. It was so good, it has kept us going back again and again. The Parillada Peruana comes with a 12 oz sirloin steak marinated in red wine and aji panca (a Peruvian red peper), peruvian corn, and a half a potato (that also had some of that aji panca spread on it). It was delicious!!!! Great portion unlike other over priced restaurants. All of that for $13.99, definitely worth it. The meat was grilled to perfection. I like mine medium well, my boyfriend who likes it medium and is very picky with steak, was also very pleased with his steak. They will prepare it however you want it..I think it tastes best medium well though :) My reason for giving this whole in the wall restaurant 5 stars is just not the tasty food...the owner and staff are so sweet!!! The second time we came, it was for my sister's birthday. They put a candle on a piece of cake we happened to get for dessert (we hadn't even asked them to do that), and they also played a peruvian version of the song "Feliz cumpleanos" in the background. How awesome is that! They did it again when I came for my birthday, except that time we brought our own cake, but they put a candle on my cake nonetheless and offered to keep it in their refrigerator until we were ready for dessert. In my quest to discover the best Peruvian Chicken we stopped randomly at Mi Peru in Gaithersburg. We were there for a late-ish lunch (1:30) on Saturday and there were a few tables occupied when we arrived. One major difference is that this place has waitress service, not the normal counter service of the likes of Chicken on the Run or Crisp and Juicy, which makes it a bit more expensive since you have to tip so keep that in mind. The chicken was very moist and flavorful, we choose rice and fried yucca as sides. The rice was just plain old white rice NOTHING special but the Yucca was the best that I've ever eaten. I think it was because it must have just come out of the fryer, so unbelievably fresh, crispy, YUM! On to the ever important sauce, now if you don't judge Peruvian chicken places by the sauce then you would give this place much more than 3 stars but to me the sauce is key. We liked that they give you a handy dispenser for the sauce, you won't run out and need to pay for extra but the flavor simply wasn't there. The sauce her is very much on the mustard-y side, less of the garlic-y goodness that I crave. So for that one reason we probably won't come here again as a first choice.
