Checked in today for lunch , I chose this place because it's right down the street from my job. I ordered 5 beef and cheese pupusas and an Inca Kola . I placed my order over the phone immediately received two star service from the woman I was speaking to. She barely understood what I was ordering. My total came to $13 and some change so I asked if the pupusas were $1.50( I was skeptical about the total) as stated on the menu on yelp, the women said no there $2( that annoyed me) . Walked in and wasn't greeted at the register. I tried to explain to them they needed to update the menus online and the woman that was more fluent in English said the "people" won't update it (whatever that means) and the pupusas been two dollars for a couples of years now. I don't have a problem with paying extra .50 cents I just don't like misleading specials. Any who so I pay and leave and as I am walking back to my job I realized they never gave me my receipt ( hate when places do that) . So finally I get back to my job sit down and open my platter 5 pupusas stacked on top of each other. 4 words for you NEVER EATING THERE AGAIN. I swear they only put beans in there . I don't even taste the beef. Every few bites I can taste the cheese. No special seasoning or anything they taste gross . It mostly tastes like plain rice flour. The only reason why I gave them an extra star is because my Inca Kola ( one of my favs) . Could have been a regular for me but first impressions are everything and the food sucks !!! read more

Everytime I come here, I wonder why I come back because it just keeps getting worse...I'm thinking it's the fond memories I had as a kid. Dead cricket on the floor & fly on the table. I would say that's ok, except the food was mediocre: I ordered tamales (dry) as an appetizer and it came out way after we started eating lunch. I asked to substitute more rice & salad instead of beans but somehow got the same portion as my dad who got beans. We were the only ones there and it took us over half an hour (I stopped counting) to get our food (for lunch)...service was equally not great. read more

Been coming here off an on for around 8 years. Excellent food every time. They've had the same owner and she is very nice and friendly. Wide selection of authentic Salvadoran cuisine and big selection of drinks from American and Latin sodas as well as beer and wine. Great atmosphere, it's a small shop but has big aesthetic. Juanita is a real hero. Today, I called in a to-go order, went in to pick it up, and managed to miss a burrito I had ordered with all the other food. Juanita called me back and offered to drive it over to my office, which was great because I was a little busy. So she drove over with the burrito I had forgotten and delivered it to me, for no charge. Also, it was delicious. As is the rest of the food at Juanita's. I especially recommend the pupusas, and my co-workers are always fiending for the lunch combos. read more

My wife and I love going to mom and pop restaurants. We enjoy the family atmosphere, home style cooked and meals and supporting the local family businesses. Juanita's is no exception. Food is very tasty and reasonably priced. Every time I'm in town I stop by for the steak and cheese and the quesadilla, Recently tried the a few of the specials and did not regret it at all. The place is a few minutes walk from the metro and the interior decor grants you an authenticity retro style look you would expect from the native countries. At first glance would of given it a 4 star but you just can't beat the price, taste and the plate presentation. Juanita the Owner is very pleasant, speaks a bit of broken English, but very understandable. I've never done the take out but I'm sure is just as good. read more

So I call to make a carry out order on my lunch break today. First time calling this restaurant. I ask them if I can make a order for "carry out". A lady with an accent replies, "quesadilla?". I say no and asked her if she could hear me. she said "yes", so I asked if I could make an order for carry out; she said no. Then I said mentioned that it says carry out on the menu, but she replied again "no" and hung up. I call back, I hear what seems to be the same woman laughing, says nothing to me, then hangs up. I call a 3rd time, the line sounds like a fax, I hang up. I call a 4th, same lady picks, I say that I called to make a order for take out and you hung up on me, she says "no", then hangs up. There's nothing great about this restaurant. The portion's kindda small, the food's just ok. The staff can barely speak English and it takes awhile for them to cook the food. It's true that some of the dishes are cheap ($1.5 for pupusa and $2.50 for empanadas), but like I mentioned before the portion's pretty small. So you will end up a lot in the end lol. This place is in an odd location, near Inkers (tattoo parlor) and just off of 355. I have to say, it was a wonderful find. It's a tiny little restaurant with just a few tables, good service and great food. They serve mostly Salvadorean food, with a little bit of Mexican and some American. There is a grill menu (carne asada, pork chops etc), a fajita menu, burritos, tacos, and an "American" section (steak and chesse etc). I also saw a sign that they have rotisserie chicken. Oh, and then there is the appetizer portion of the menu, the reason this place gets 5 stars. There is a large variety (pupusas, empanadas, quesadillas, shrimp cocktail, and many more) they are very VERY well priced, and the portions are great. $1.50 for a pupusa about 5" across, that comes with some sauce and cabbage. $2.50 for an empanada that is massive. I could go on... The pupusas are excellent. The empanadas great. The quesadilla amazing. The carne asada was also great, if the rice and beans were a bit lacking. The price can't be beat. All in all this place is a great spot to hit up. Need a snack? Grab one for under $2. Need dinner? You can make it happen for around $8, and be totally stuffed. read more

The restaurant was relatively clean. When I arrived at the restaurant, my guest and I were the only customers. The waitress was friendly but did not give me a great vibe. She was watching one of those Judge _________ shows on Latin American television and did not seem to be genuinely enthusiastic. Yes, patrons were steering her away from her show, but the place was dead before we walked in. I ordered the Fajita de Carne for $9.99 while my friend had the Steak & Cheese Combo for $6.50. His combo came with fries and a canned soda and my dish was supposed to come with flour tortillas but I didn't get them without inquiring about them. My waitress looked at me like she didn't understand. So I thought I was just being a know-nothing Chinese girl and ordered something I had no idea about and doubted myself. The waitress even shook her head and said "no" when I inquired about the wraps. But after going into the kitchen and spewing lines of Spanish out she came back with a small plate with 3 small flour tortillas. I found out later that fajitas do in fact come with flour or corn tortillas. The food portions were skimpy and bland, but not terrible. But as the two stars show, "Meh. W (h) ole in the Walls rule! :) Great American cuisine and El Salvadorian since 1996. I tried cheeseburger subs two different days and crispy fries. Everything great and under $10. The burger was cooked perfectly medium, melted American cheese on large sub roll. A woman by me got huge bowl of soup that looked too good. Will go back. This is not a terrible place to eat, it's just not as good as it could be. The very cute Mom and Pop couple running it would be much better off restricting their menu to only the stuff they can cook well. If you want Salvadorian food, and you don't want to drive very far, and you're willing to try items until you build up a sizable enough menu of things to order regularly, this is the place for you. If you're the kind of person who likes to order a variety of appetizers like they're ghetto tapas, then be sure to skip the pupusas, they're bland, small, and uninteresting. But definitely go for the papas relleno (potato croquette stuffed with ground beef, about the size of your palm, $2), it was just salty enough and very flavorful. read more

We had really low expectations coming here, but we were on a quest for empanadas and this place was the closest. We lucked out, because we all enjoyed our food. Nothing fancy or particularly amazing about it...just generally pretty tasty stuff. The empanada crust was delicious but I didn't care for the filling. I did feel like all their ingredients were only so-so in quality, but the prices were so low I can't complain about that. read more

They do a food truck outside of our building ever so often and each experience has been lovely! I get the chicken tacos and my husband gets the steak tacos. The shells are amazing and the protein is always cooked nicely. We both get the mild sauce and it is a little too spicy for us, but it tastes so good we overcome our weak tastebuds. We love Juanita's. My kids love their pupusas and I love the chicken fajita. The chicken burrito is one of my favorites too, it's a hearty burrito that my youngest can't finish. The have other authentic tasty Mexican which is unlike Tex Mex and the Salvadorean food is home style. I will continue to go to Juanita's Restaurant. Absolutely horrible food! I can't even begin to describe how awful the pupusa was. The masa may have been bad? Over cooked for sure. I didn't get salsa or Curtido with the pupusas. The tamale was so over cooked it bounced like a rubber ball. When I called to tell them of the poor quality and the missing items, the person who answered was rude and unwilling to replace the food or refund my money. I'm glad I tried this place out for lunch without my family. I'd have felt horrible subjecting them to this food. read more

Bad service, the food is not even that good. I've tried different menu items and it's not worth the money, they're slightly over priced. The rice is never cooked well they really brought me a steak that was fully cooked only on one side. I tried using a coupon through a service THEY signed up for to bring in customers and they refused it and tried to say it was illegitimate, after much bickering they finally decided to honor it. Very good Salvadorean and mexican food restaurant. I had the pupusas(of course). They were excellent, very filling and juicy. Juanita gave us some of her homemade hot sauce which was deceptivly spicy. The sauce kind of sneaks up on you. I also had the chorizo burrito, very very good filled with rice and juciy chorizo with onion and peppers. Its a very tiny little family restaurant that makes real good home cooking. You walk in and become part of the family. I advise anyone who likes salvadorean food to go here. read more

Ordered take out, the papusas were so dry they crumbled when trying to cut through them and the tamale was rock hard it bounced off the plate. I am local and tried calling to ask for fresh food or a refund and was laughed at by the staff and flatly told no. I will never be frequenting this establishment again, which is a shame since it's so close. read more

I would've loved to have tried this place out, but from the time I walked through the door, I didn't feel very welcomed. I was all smiles walking in, excited to try the food, so I don't really understand why the woman at the counter completely ignored me. I walked up to the counter, and said hello and asked for a menu. She didn't even look up to greet me, or smile or anything, just stared at me, and pointed to where the menus were. (I'm thinking okay... wth?) I didn't see any type of rice on the menu so I asked her if they have white rice. She rolls her eyes and says "no." At that point, I just shook my head and walked out. I noticed on the way out however, that there was white rice on someone's plate. There were only two customers there eating (it was the lunch rush hour so I was surprised). Needless to say, I absolutely will not be returning to this restaurant. I don't know - maybe this woman was not accustomed to seeing black people come into the restaurant, or maybe she was having a bad day? It's so sad. I really would have liked to have given this place a good review. I work close-by, and my coworkers and I used to order delivery from here often. My favorite was the lengua burrito. However, on one occasion when we ordered there, I actually got a MOTH in my salsa. Needless to say, we never ordered from there again. Sorry Juanita. read more

Juanita is my hero! Talk about a strong woman and a great mother! And yes (disclosure) she is my mother. However growing up, Juanita's Restaurant is all I've known. My friends and co-workers alike ask me, "What do I recommend?" I always say, it depends on what you are in the mood for. For me, I maybe looking to eat a hot Hen Soup (Sopa de Gallina) if I am feeling a little under the weather, a soothing tasty broth with the perfect amount of veggies and a side of white rice.... or if I am not too hungry, I will order a chicken or pork pupusa or a beef empanada (these are a hit with my friends and co-workers when I pick some up to share) and relatively cheap if you are on a budget, since eating out can take a toll on your wallet. My dinner option of choice would be the grilled pork chop topped with grilled onions, served with rice, beans and salad. Some of my other favorites for lunch is a chicken burrito (I ask her to throw in a side of fries) or when I don't want Salvadorian or Mexican, I order a steak and cheese! Yes, you read that right, her subs are definitely ones that you have to try. There is so much more I can write about but I leave it up to you, to at least try out Juanita's Restaurant yourself. The first time I was there, I ordered the fajitas thinking that it would be a safe bet. They turned out to be a little greasy, the meat pretty tough, somehow overcooked. I thought that I would give another chance since I work close by. My office ordered a variety of items, Yuca con Chicharron, gross, the pork like leather unchewable and the yucca hard, Platanos fritos were also horrible, Yuca rellena was yuk and they couldn't even make steak & cheese right! I ate lunch here on 5/23. I was greeted by a very cheery waitress and sat down. The restaurant has a very cool latin vibe with pictures hanging from El Salvador and Mexico. I ordered the lunch portion fajitas which were priced right at 7 bucks and were very tasty. I was also happy to recieve a coca cola that was in a glass bottle that was made in Mexico. The best Coca Cola in the world. No Corn Syrup! Very refreshing. I then got a chance to meet Juanita who was very very nice. This place is not easily found but is a gem. read more

Juanita's was a very nice mom and pop restaurant. It was very clean and the wait staff was very friendly. The food came out looking amazing and to be honest the queso pupusas were really good. The fried plantains were ok. Everything else looked great but was incredibly salty. I am not a very picky eater and don't normally bother with things like that but I couldn't eat the pupusa revuelta, the cabbage salad it comes with, or even the refried beans. It was very disappointing as I was really hoping it would be a good spot for Salvadorian food. They have a TV in the room. There is also a juke box that you must pay for in order to listen to music. I might try once more to see if the over saltiness of the food was just a one off. read more

We came here during a groupon promo. They were reluctant to honor the coupon and they finally so after complaining about smaller profit margins because of it. We did take out The food itself was just ok, bordering on inedible. The rice was hard and dry and the meats tasted stale. We had lived in King Farm for over 5 years and had driven by this place many times. Not sure why we never tried it out but I certainly am glad we finally did today. My husband and I were starving and we went in not knowing what to order. Tostalos (deep fried tacos) were great. If you like spicy food, be sure to ask for their special spicy sauce. read more
