I came here for a quick dinner today and wow, what a find! The restaurant immediately reminded me of a taco place in Miami I loved, which already set the right tone. The hostess was very sweet and I got to take advantage of the nice weather and sit outside. It's taco Tuesday, so the hostess and the server both reminded me it was "buy one get one free" - a great deal! I decided to go big and try four tacos, and all of them were very good! I'm from Southern California, so usually am picky about tacos, and some of these really exceeded my expectation. Al pastor: very tender and flavorful. A teeny bit dry, but perfect with the red salsa they brought for the table. Beef birria: nice and crispy tortilla, the consommé was very fragrant and not too salty, and they were generous with the beef. As normal with birria, it's a bit heavier/oilier, so one was enough, but it's very good! Baja fish: probably one of the favs! I made the mistake of leaving it to last, so the outside of the fish was a little less crispy, but if you eat it sooner, that shouldn't be an issue. The piece of fish was very large and cooked perfectly (very flaky). The flavor was great, especially with that red salsa. Avocado tostada: generous toppings, great flavor balance, fun crunch with very soft toppings. If you've ever eaten a tostada, you know you have to approach it like I imagine people approach skittish horses: with total confidence, even if you know it'll end up as a mess on the place. Otherwise, service was very quick and friendly and they didn't come and bother me during the meal, which I love. It really filled up while I was eating, such a testament to how good this place is. I definitely can't wait to come back! read more

I came for the $14 lunch special. It included 2 tacos & rice and beans. I choose the carne asada and the al pastor. The carne asada was cooked well. I'm glad it was not a piece of chewy/tough meat like most taco places. It was seasoned well. The al pastor was prepared the same way. Both the green and red sauces were decent. If you are looking for something with more spice, ask for the 3rd sauce they offer. The rice and beans were bland, nothing special to them. I also ordered a horchata, unfortunately it was just another cinnamon milk, this is a preference drink. There are multiple ways of preparing a horchata and this one even though it was bottled nicely just didn't do it for me. Overall a decent experience for lunch, service was quick and everything was cooked well. Carne asada taco - 7/10 Al pastor 6.5/10 Horchata 4/10 read more

Never leave with a to go order without opening up the stapled bag and checking the bag first. I blame myself but 25% off the order was not in the bag when I got back. Stopped by Tacombi on a Sunday to use a $25 gift card. One of the servers was very kind, took the time to walk me through the menu and invited me to sit wherever I wanted. He suggested to visit on Tuesdays for BOGO tacos. I ordered a mango margarita ($14), which was just okay, along with the Baja crispy fish taco ($6.99) and the Sinaloa shrimp taco ($6.49). Both tacos were good and flavorful, but overpriced for the portion size. Overall, friendly service and good food just on the pricier side. read more

A decent place for a breakfast burrita among several options in Bethesda. The two choices for the inside of the burrito are al pastor or vegetarian (a la Mexicana). I got the roast pork and you get plenty of chunks of meat throughout. Besides the meat, my favorite part honestly was the tortilla. It held up the contents of the burrita well! What could really help would be more meat options or offering some sauces on the side, especially for $14.99. It might not look big from the pictures, but the burrita was enough of a lunch for me. The construction partially blocks the view of the entrance from the rest of Bethesda Row, but I still see people finding it! It's a big spacious dining room inside, even if you close off the part of the area meant to host parties. The Tacombi decor actually does a really good job of transporting you somewhere else, in my view for a fast casual restaurant. One of my favorite aspects of the restaurant is the sink outside the bathroom. Service was decent as well. read more

My friend and I stopped by on a Tuesday for their buy 1 taco get 1 taco offer. We ordered the Al pastor, beef Birria, carne asada, Sinaloa shrimp tacos, corn esquites and a margarita. Everything was delicious. The beef in the Birria was seasoned well and the consume was so rich. The carne asada was cooked perfectly. We really enjoyed our experience and the ambience here. The ceilings are high, the colors are bright and the seating is very spacious. The servers were attentive and our food came out quickly. Highly recommend using the Inkind app to earn and redeem points. read more

Hands down the best fish tacos. Period. Perfection every single time. No one else compares.

Tacombi off Bleeker Street in NYC was a my go-to spot circa 2017. Fast forward now being in the DMV and seeing this spot pop up on my map on a Sunny Saturday - can you say EXCITEMENT!?! Visited the location @ Crystal City and it did NOT disappoint. The Vegana taco and Baja Fish taco didn't stand a chance - also you can tell since the Vegana never made the photoshoot . Spices were spicing, everything came out fresh, and the locale was super nostalgic. I love how every location is kept with integrity in design and aesthetic. It was pretty packed when we got there so the wait time was a bit elongated, but a super attentive waiter who bussed the outdoor seating made it their business to take our order and ensure everything was exactly what we needed. Beer was refreshing and that Spicy Marg, well I said what I said. DO make your way here, then maybe walk around the area, Tacombi is a great addition to the strip! read more

The food has a spicy kick! Skip the entree and go for the nacho chips, fresh guacamole, and agua refresca drinks! The Vegana Burrito was super spicy! While I enjoyed the cooked kale and chunks of sweet potato and Oaxaca cheese, the spicy chili salsa overpowered the burrito that not even a heap of white rice or black beans could absorb. I paid an extra upcharge to add gaucamole and cheese, which wasn't worth it and the $18 burrito left my mouth on fire. The best part of the meal was the fresh guacamole and the bag of crunchy Totopos nacho chips! My daughter and I devoured them in a sitting! The Horchata had a sweet cinnamon almond milk flavor while the Sandia watermelon Aqua Fresca was refreshing and my pick of the 2! I would come back for the chips and guac and try the cocktails from the fresh juices - just skip the entree! read more

I don't know why we don't come here more often. Second only to the local taco truck, this is a strong contender for great tacos in the area. On Taco Tuesdays, tacos are buy one get one free, which is a fantastic deal. The seafood tacos are fresh and nicely balanced with vegetables and garnishes. The meat tacos are cooked to perfection with classic flavors. Chips are fresh, guacamole is fresh and no-frills, and salsas are spicy and flavorful. They have a nice selection of margaritas, as well as nonalcoholic drinks, such as Horchata and Jamaica which pair fantastically with tacos. There is indoor and outdoor seating. Music is lively. Service is great. Metered street parking and county garages available. Easy metro access. read more

Best tacos I've had in a really, really long time. Very authentic. Cute little venue, although it's a little bit hard to notice, because it is behind the construction that is going on in downtown Bethesda. This is right next to Chase Bank, off of Bethesda Avenue. It is also just a few steps away from the Bethesda Theatre. Try it! You'll be glad you did! read more

Truly, I can't believe I have to write this. The quality of Tacombi has dropped severely. I don't know if it's the Bethesda location or in general. I went last week and was so so disappointed. The carne asada was DRIPPING in oil, it was bizarre. I couldn't finish either of my quesadillas (and as a fat woman, let me tell you that is rare). Like I picked up the quesadilla, folded it, and a cascade of oil fell onto plate. Not from the cheese. From the glistening carne asada. The new "crispy chicken tinga".... it was like no chicken tinga I've ever had. It was similar to fried chicken with spice in the breading. Very dry. Topped with cabbage.... Where was the sauce that chicken tinga always has?? I have no idea. And the birria was nothing special. Feels like them hopping on a 3-year-old trend. Tacombi used to be a special place my partner and I would go to splurge, especially given the lack of good Mexican food in the DMV. Worth noting I was there at 6pm and the place was empty. We were the only patrons, inside and outside. I honestly have to say I don't think I will ever return. Devastating, fr. read more

Came by for a small bite. Was alright but not that impressed. I got the birria, shrimp tacos and mezcal mule. Birria and shrimp were good but nothing extraordinary. I enjoyed the slaw on the shrimp taco though. Mule was very strong. My friend got the califa de Leon. It didn't look like much. He said they were alright, but wouldn't say it's worth the price. Guac was alright but very small portion. We also got the corn which tasted too much like canned corn to me. Can get better for less else where. read more

Another visit to Tacombi in Spring 2025 and this time, I got the fried fish burrito Usually I get the tacos, but this time I wanted to try something different and got an unexpectedly HUGE burrito filled with fresh, crunchy veggies, crispy fish filets, and some bright spicy salsa. I was so full from the burrito, I couldn't steal any bites from anyone else's tacos. Tacombi Bethesda is delightful little gem specializing in its namesake dish. With bright and cheerful ambiance plus courteous and welcoming service, Tacombi is fun getaway from the bustle of Downtown Bethesda for quality tacos--particularly on Tuesdays when the least expensive half of tacos ordered are free! Having tried nearly all of their tacos and one of the two from the *Taquería El Califa de León pop-up, me and my dining companion's favorites are clearly the Tacombi's Birria and Sinaloa Shrimp. The Birria is quality braised brisket that is flavorful, rich, and gooey with cheese and accompanied by a decadent consommé made of beef oil and the same spiced braising juices as used for the beef. The gratis salsas (a mild and smoky red plus a chili-loaded green), particularly the spicier green one, work as refreshing contrast to the rich taco. The Yin to the Birria's Yang is the Shrimp+Avocado Taco, which is bright and refreshing with nice tang from the pickled onion and elevated further by a spicy and creamy green sauce. Terrific on its own, either complementary salsa also adds another accent to the party of flavors. For those wanting something milder while still on the Yin side of things, either the Baja Crispy Cod or Seared Cod Tacos are delicately flavored and enjoyable. *Speaking of the aforementioned pop-up collaboration with the Michelin 1-Starred taco stand from Mexico City, the Costilla taco (ribeye) was well-marinated and fine. Since it was literally just sliced meat in a corn tortilla, the concept appeared to about perfect execution of simplicity. However, the Costilla taco did not come anywhere close, was not particularly well-seared, and felt doubly disappointing as it was over twice the cost of Tacombi's priciest taco. That said, it further illustrated to us that Tacombi's main staples (Birria and Shrimp) are stellar! read more

Good, but not amazing taco place in downtown Bethesda that reminds me of some of Los Tacos No. 1 in NYC, but not quite as good. The place is bright and spartan inside which gives it a bit of an authentic feel and the tacos, menu and ingredients definitely have the bare bones taqueria feel as well. It took a long time to get our order taken and get our food. For a good long while, it just seemed like they had forgotten about us and we couldn't get anyone's attention. When the food came, the shrimp taco was fantastic. The (non-fried) fish taco wasn't as good. The special ribeye taco was good with the toppings, but my son and his friend didn't seem to like it (despite liking steak), although they had it without the toppings. All my daughter ate was the rice and a tiny bit of beans. My kids' pickiness probably isn't a slight against the place though. read more

As a Mexicana from California, I have high standards for Mexican food, especially in the DMV. But Tacombi truly blew me away. I knew it was going to be delicious as soon as I saw the house made tortillas. I ordered the Baja fish and Al pastor tacos which were incredible as well as the guac totopes & a miche-nada (also delicious). The design of the restaurant space also feels very authentically Mexican, down to the quintessential metal chairs. Can't wait to be back to try more of the menu items! read more

Delicious, really solid meal in a pleasant open outdoor environment in Bethesda center. I am familiar with Tacombi from the NYC restaurant on the corner of Bleeker and Cornelia in NYC's West Village, and this chain does not disappoint. I haven't dined in at Tacombi yet, but I've ordered carry out from them several times. I have always received excellent service: while I wait for my order I'm always offered a place to sit and some water - even if I'll only be there for a minute or two - and my order comes up hot & fresh quickly. My go-to order is a chicken quesadilla, which comes with a side of salsa of your choosing. You can also get some of their Truff carry-out packets, and I highly recommend the green truffle hot sauce to take your quesadilla to the next level. Tacombi might earn a fifth star in the future when I'm able to have the full dine-in experience. read more

Tacombi is an incredible taco and quesadilla restaurant. The food is made to order and is served fresh and hot. The quesa-birria is deliciousss and the cheese quesadilla is a close second. I decided to give Tacombi a try, as I'd never eaten there before. Initially I came here for the pop up event which was Califa De Leon (Michelin Star Taqueria) from Mexico City, but was told the event won't start till 5pm. Being from California and having explored many of the popular taco spots in Southern California and Mexico, I consider myself a bit of a taco connoisseur. The interior of the restaurant was very nicely set up, and was very spacious. I tried a variety of items--some were fantastic, and others weren't bad but didn't quite match up to places I've been before. Starting with my least favorite, the Al Pastor taco didn't have enough flavor for me. It wasn't bad, just not memorable. The Birria taco was decent, but honestly, in the DMV area, no one compares to Nono's Taqueria--they've mastered Birria tacos, and no one can see them period. The Esquites (corn) were definitely among the best I've had. My favorites, however, were the Baja Crispy Fish, Carne Asada, and Sinaloa Shrimp tacos. Their corn tortillas were excellent, and the Agua de Sandía (watermelon drink) was absolutely amazing. One big surprise was their hot sauces--all three were incredible. Most taquerias in the DMV area usually have just one good or decent hot sauce, but Tacombi nailed it with all three. Even the price point is little bit higher than the other places I've been to I will definitely be back in the future. read more

Had a great weekday dinner at Tacombi. It is very close to the Bethesda Metro station and Landmark Theater. The menu has an extensive drink menu paired with many traditional Mexican faves (Birria al pastor, Baja fish, ect). I ordered the vegana burrita. It was very generously stuffed with the usual traditional ingredients (rice and beans, chile salsa, shredded cabbage ). But it also was mixed with more unique veggies (kale, roasted sweet potatoes). The spices used also made the burrita very flavor. My companion liked his avocado tostadas (lots of pickled onions, cilantro, creamy black beans and fresh guac). read more

Went here for the first time and it was a mixed bag. Service started out fine and the food trickled out pretty quickly. We tried various items to mixed reviews. As others mentioned, it is pricey for the portion, especially compared to other excellent taquerias around. The beans and rice, corn esquites and tostada were pretty good but very small for the price ($5 each)! I really like the Baja fried fish taco but the seared fish taco wasn't good at all which was disappointing since those are usually my favorite kind. My husband enjoyed his sweet potato and black beans tostada, but I didn't like the overpowering sauce on it. Now for service...our waiter disappeared and my husband had to wave down a different one who very apologetic. He brought my husband the extra taco he ordered and gave it to us on the house. Then we waited again to get the check and had to ask the other waiter again to bring it. The restaurant wasn't even busy! He brought us the check and then lo and behold, our waiter showed up to ask us how things are going! We told him we couldn't find him and had to order with and get the bill from another waiter and he just shrugged and walked away!! Never had that kind of bad service, no apologies, just attitude. We would've told the manager but at this point just wanted to leave. We tipped the other waiter on the way out. Based on the food and service, we won't be back. The table and chairs outside are also not very comfortable. Fish Taco has much better food at a much better price. read more

I loved the ambiance of the restaurant - colorful and vibrant. The service was very attentive. The food was very yummy, but portion sizes for tacos were a bit smaller than you'd want for the price. Well balanced spicy and a tajin rim Geo the manager was beyond attentive and brought us over a free appetizer that he insisted we HAD to try- corn esquites. He was right, this was DELICIOUS and the right balance of sweet from the corn, creamy from a little cheese and spicy from the sauce. YUM!!! And I would make sure to order this again. We walked in on a Friday night for a table of 5 and were seated within a few minutes. The ordering process was fairly easy as you were given paper menus and you marked off what you wanted. We got a wide array of tacos. I tried the following: -chips and guac- the chips were quite salty, but I enjoy salty foods so I found them perfect. The guac was fresh and obviously made there. - sweet potato and bean taco- this surprisingly had a kick to them that I wasn't necessarily expecting. The sweet potatoes were soft but not too soft. -birria tacos- they come in an order of 2 and they were great. Meat was tender and flavorful. The compote was packed full of flavor. I would have liked some raw onion on the side to put on, but that's the only addition I would have made. - Baja taco- fish portion was fairly large and the taco was great. I loved this one and the birria most. Lastly, it feels like you're somewhere else when you're here. Like you're on vacation. It's got a good vibe and good service read more

Solid neighborhood taqueria especially for Bethesda. The price point is a bit high considering that it's loud and there's no real ambiance. Some great items and some mediocre. The Baja crispy fish, sinoloa shrimp, and beef birria tacos are solid. Guacamole is good. I hate that the kids menu has nothing aside from beans and cheese or sweet potato and bean tacos pretty much.
