I visited here after the movies with a friend, and it was just as good as I remember. I've been a few times, and the fish tacos and guac never disappoint. The vibe is super relaxed, the staff is really welcoming, and I'm so glad they have this spot in Bethesda. I'll definitely be back!

A decent place for a breakfast burrita among several options in Bethesda. The two choices for the inside of the burrito are al pastor or vegetarian (a la Mexicana). I got the roast pork and you get plenty of chunks of meat throughout. Besides the meat, my favorite part honestly was the tortilla. It held up the contents of the burrita well! What could really help would be more meat options or offering some sauces on the side, especially for $14.99. It might not look big from the pictures, but the burrita was enough of a lunch for me. The construction partially blocks the view of the entrance from the rest of Bethesda Row, but I still see people finding it! It's a big spacious dining room inside, even if you close off the part of the area meant to host parties. The Tacombi decor actually does a really good job of transporting you somewhere else, in my view for a fast casual restaurant. One of my favorite aspects of the restaurant is the sink outside the bathroom. Service was decent as well.

My friend and I stopped by on a Tuesday for their buy 1 taco get 1 taco offer. We ordered the Al pastor, beef Birria, carne asada, Sinaloa shrimp tacos, corn esquites and a margarita. Everything was delicious. The beef in the Birria was seasoned well and the consume was so rich. The carne asada was cooked perfectly. We really enjoyed our experience and the ambience here. The ceilings are high, the colors are bright and the seating is very spacious. The servers were attentive and our food came out quickly. Highly recommend using the Inkind app to earn and redeem points.

I ordered the carne asada burrito and it was pretty good but a little small in my opinion. The service was quick and the ambiance does feel like you're in Mexico a little bit.

Tacombi off Bleeker Street in NYC was a my go-to spot circa 2017. Fast forward now being in the DMV and seeing this spot pop up on my map on a Sunny Saturday - can you say EXCITEMENT!?! Visited the location @ Crystal City and it did NOT disappoint. The Vegana taco and Baja Fish taco didn't stand a chance - also you can tell since the Vegana never made the photoshoot . Spices were spicing, everything came out fresh, and the locale was super nostalgic. I love how every location is kept with integrity in design and aesthetic. It was pretty packed when we got there so the wait time was a bit elongated, but a super attentive waiter who bussed the outdoor seating made it their business to take our order and ensure everything was exactly what we needed. Beer was refreshing and that Spicy Marg, well I said what I said. DO make your way here, then maybe walk around the area, Tacombi is a great addition to the strip!

The food has a spicy kick! Skip the entree and go for the nacho chips, fresh guacamole, and agua refresca drinks! The Vegana Burrito was super spicy! While I enjoyed the cooked kale and chunks of sweet potato and Oaxaca cheese, the spicy chili salsa overpowered the burrito that not even a heap of white rice or black beans could absorb. I paid an extra upcharge to add gaucamole and cheese, which wasn't worth it and the $18 burrito left my mouth on fire. The best part of the meal was the fresh guacamole and the bag of crunchy Totopos nacho chips! My daughter and I devoured them in a sitting! The Horchata had a sweet cinnamon almond milk flavor while the Sandia watermelon Aqua Fresca was refreshing and my pick of the 2! I would come back for the chips and guac and try the cocktails from the fresh juices - just skip the entree!

I don't know why we don't come here more often. Second only to the local taco truck, this is a strong contender for great tacos in the area. On Taco Tuesdays, tacos are buy one get one free, which is a fantastic deal. The seafood tacos are fresh and nicely balanced with vegetables and garnishes. The meat tacos are cooked to perfection with classic flavors. Chips are fresh, guacamole is fresh and no-frills, and salsas are spicy and flavorful. They have a nice selection of margaritas, as well as nonalcoholic drinks, such as Horchata and Jamaica which pair fantastically with tacos. There is indoor and outdoor seating. Music is lively. Service is great. Metered street parking and county garages available. Easy metro access.

Best tacos I've had in a really, really long time. Very authentic. Cute little venue, although it's a little bit hard to notice, because it is behind the construction that is going on in downtown Bethesda. This is right next to Chase Bank, off of Bethesda Avenue. It is also just a few steps away from the Bethesda Theatre. Try it! You'll be glad you did!

I didn't even manage to get a picture of the shrimp taco I ordered before devouring it because it was so good. The Al pastor was also delicious. The ingredients tasted very fresh and the salsas we were served on the side were amazing. The servers are incredibly kind and the interior and exterior of the restaurant are so cute.

As a Mexicana from California, I have high standards for Mexican food, especially in the DMV. But Tacombi truly blew me away. I knew it was going to be delicious as soon as I saw the house made tortillas. I ordered the Baja fish and Al pastor tacos which were incredible as well as the guac totopes & a miche-nada (also delicious). The design of the restaurant space also feels very authentically Mexican, down to the quintessential metal chairs. Can't wait to be back to try more of the menu items!

Came by for a small bite. Was alright but not that impressed. I got the birria, shrimp tacos and mezcal mule. Birria and shrimp were good but nothing extraordinary. I enjoyed the slaw on the shrimp taco though. Mule was very strong. My friend got the califa de Leon. It didn't look like much. He said they were alright, but wouldn't say it's worth the price. Guac was alright but very small portion. We also got the corn which tasted too much like canned corn to me. Can get better for less else where.

Another visit to Tacombi in Spring 2025 and this time, I got the fried fish burrito Usually I get the tacos, but this time I wanted to try something different and got an unexpectedly HUGE burrito filled with fresh, crunchy veggies, crispy fish filets, and some bright spicy salsa. I was so full from the burrito, I couldn't steal any bites from anyone else's tacos. But it was worth it, a larger-than-life meal from a great taco house, if you haven't tried Tacombi yet, the burrito is just another reason to give it a try!

We stopped here after the movies to see what this cute spot was about. We ordered takeout which included Baja Crispy Fish, Pollo Yucateco and Seared Fish tacos. They were mini which we didn't mind as this was only to test the food, but if you have an appetite order you a few! We'll definitely be back to try more and actually get photos of the food since we scarfed the three we ordered down.

We'll have to look for an opportunity when we are around the dog all day, so she can be on her own for a couple of hours, likely sleeping. Birdsong already is acclaimed. This is much more Thai and Thai American. Like Chinese or Italian cuisine before it, Thai flavors have assimilated to a palate not accustomed to the true strength of the spices. Birdsong is a remedy. They do not offer the pad thai that has become a staple, no longer exotic but to its detriment. (A digression. The history of pad thai, with contested origins, is fascinating. As you delve into these matters, you see how syncretic culture is. You also are exposed to the efforts to fashion a unifying mythology.) We ordered the chicken, the shrimp, the crab fried rice, the papaya salad, and the enhancement. The chicken and the shrimp were quality ingredients, prepared well. Although both proteins were fried, they felt clean. The crab fried rice was one option of many with the rice base. The papaya salad was fresh. The enhancement was radish with "fermented daikon, garlic, red onion, cilantro, palm sugar, and fish sauce scrambled with eggs for a balanced savory and sweet flavor," and the portion was generous: we put it on the rice, then I finished it off in an omelet the next morning. We have traveled to Bangkok. Thai spiciness exceeds what I would endorse, and I love hot dishes. Birdsong was much milder, though with sufficient pepperiness my wife, who does not share my preferences, remarked it was closer to her limit. They will work with you in this respect, and I'm confident I could request something that would test my capabilities. That is, in my book, all positive. The dishes that were mild according to the menu, were mild, but they were flavorful. If you do not like fish sauce, for example, you may not appreciate the offerings, which if they don't have fish sauce have something along those lines. I hope Birdsong fares well.

I ordered the Basil Fried Rice, which is described as coming with egg, chicken, shrimp, and vegetables. I specifically requested no egg, no chicken, and double spicy green sauce on the side. Instead, I received plain fried rice with no egg, no chicken, no shrimp, and they didn't include the double green sauce I requested. Paying $15 for what was essentially plain fried rice was pretty disappointing. To make matters worse, the "green sauce" they did include wasn't even the usual spicy green sauce you get when dining in. It looked more like finely chopped green onions than the actual sauce. I also ordered Yaki Udon and requested double spicy green sauce with that as well--and once again, it was missing. It honestly felt like no one actually read my order. They seemed to go off muscle memory instead of following the modifications. Removing the shrimp entirely when I never asked for that just reinforces the impression that my order wasn't checked before it went out. The pickup experience wasn't much better. My order was sitting on the pickup shelf, clearly ready, but I had to flag down the host to retrieve it while a staff member stood just a few steps away. It would take less than a minute for the takeout staff to greet guests, confirm a name or order number, ask if anything else is needed, and hand over the order. The food at Hawkers is good--that's why I keep coming back--but the consistency of the takeout service needs work. Reading orders carefully and giving a little more attention to customers picking up their food would go a long way. Great food, but the execution and service didn't match.

I've had this review in DRAFT for a while, to allow time for rumination as to the final rating…read more.. On the one hand, there are some very positive aspects to Beth's, situated in downtown about a 10 min walk from the Bethesda Metro Station. Turn off Old Georgetown Road onto Fairmont Ave, and the first thing you encounter is a beautiful outdoor patio for al fresco dining and a large bar. The colors are vibrant with a focus on Southwestern earth tones; very reminiscent of a cafe you'd find in Sedona. It was still on the chilly side when my dinner group gathered, so we opted to sit indoors. There is a small waiting area in the foyer, and then a moderately sized bar, which leads into the main dining room. TBH, the design asthetic of the space is a bit of a "mishmash." Is it supposed to be European inspired? A continuation of the Southwestern motif? It's all a bit odd... We had about eight in the party, so staff pushed together two tables for us. We were greeted promptly and were told that the restaurant could accomodate individual checks, as ordering is done with handheld devices. My other observation about Beth's is, I'm not quite sure what "story," the place is trying to tell. The menu focuses on "Bites," which could be interpreted as "appetizers" and only has four "plates," aka "entrees." Our server mentioned while awaiting our orders that Beth's wants diners to share the "Bites" with a spotlight on their cocktail selections. So is Beth's trying to be a tapas bar then? I opted for the recommended Purple Rain which consists of Gin, lavender, lime; mostly because I LOVE a nice herbal Gin. The distinctive flavor of juniper berries from the gin was present, while the floral notes from the lavendar and citrus of the lime balanced out the drink. I was pleasantly surprised. Food started arriving after about 20 min, and visually the barley risotto was quite appealing. Instead of short or medium grain rice, Beth's uses the ancient cereal grain barley. It is slow cooked in stock to produce that slightly chewy, yet not undercooked mouth feel. USDA choice braised beef short ribs was stewed until fork tender, and the dish was finished off with Parmigiano Reggiano, and butter. For $24, the plate was a good portion size and very tasty. I dunno. I sampled some of the small plates such as the Brussel Sprouts, crunchy ravioli, crispy spring roll...and everything was fine. Not outstanding...not terrible...but just fine. The kitchen seems to be competent, so it would be interesting to see a menu where more main dishes were offered for diners who want a more substantial meal. The other thing I'll note is, due to the extremely high ceilings, the main dining space is a deafening echo chamber. I was hoarse by evening's end, since I was literally yelling over not just the background music, but the other nearby diners. Just keep this in mind that if you're seeking a quiet and cozy spot, either dine outdoors or come early. After some reflection, I settle on 4 stars. Service was good with water glasses constantly refilled, dirty dishes removed, to-go boxes offered, and the ability for separate billing. Price wise, for one alcoholic beverage, and one entree my tab with tax and tip came to a bit over $50. Automatic gratuity was added for the table since we had over 5 people. I appreciate the server informing us so we didn't "double tip."

I finally made it to Beth's and honestly had mixed feelings about the experience. The food was…read moregood enough that I really wanted to love the restaurant overall. The egg rolls were perfectly fried and delicious with the homemade sauce, and the fries were crispy on the outside while still moist inside. Trey was also a great server and definitely one of the highlights of the visit. The restaurant itself is beautiful, especially the outdoor seating area. The patio is bright, inviting, and honestly a much better atmosphere than the inside dining space. Unfortunately, the music inside completely took away from the experience for me. The restaurant has a dark/lounge-style vibe indoors, so the music really matters. Something more universal and upbeat like Motown, 80's pop, or feel-good music would match the space so much better. Instead, the playlist was loud, distracting, and honestly made me ready to eat and leave. I was also surprised that there was no happy hour offered, especially with such a great outdoor setup that seems perfect for after-work drinks and appetizers. Overall, the food and service (thank you Trey) were solid, but the atmosphere inside and lack of happy hour would probably keep me from returning regularly.
