Plantain, rice and peas, jerk chicken

Coming from a Jamaican family, we take our food seriously so walking in, I'll be honest... I wasn't impressed at first. The setup felt far from traditional, with lots of build-your-own bowl options and toppings like pickled onions and shredded carrots. That's just not what I'm looking for when I want real Jamaican food. We actually walked out. But then I saw a photo of a simple plate with jerk chicken, rice and peas, and cabbage and it made me pause. My husband went back in and asked if they could make that, even though it wasn't on the menu. A woman from the back overheard and asked if he was Caribbean, which is a green flag. They were out of cabbage, so we got plantains instead and let me tell you, it was SO good. My first bite made me close my eyes. The jerk chicken was seasoned just right, and everything tasted authentic. I'm really glad we gave it another chance. It may not look traditional at first glance, but they definitely know what they're doing in that kitchen.

Are you in the mood for Caribbean food and don't want to wait super long but the food is made to order, well you should try the Caribbean chipotle, Angry jerk!!! They have three locations and the food is amazing. This is the perfect option for lunch and dinner as you can customize a bowl or order platters. They even have tacos Recommendations Half chicken Jerk mambo wings Brown stew chicken bowl Oxtail platter with Mac rice and cabbage

Went by here after an earlier event. I always wanted to go and what a better time? I got here around 8pm. I had a very warm welcome from staff. I browsed the food and the menu. Ok so many things caught my eye. I decided on the half chicken with 2 sides. Rice & peas and cabbage. The chicken was delicious. Perfectly seasoned and moist. It came with two sauces. They were full bodied. Both sides were very good. I definitely would go back to get my jerk chicken fix.

Stumbled on this location after getting my nails done. Here is my review in short. Ambiance: regular, most of the staff were in the back working and someone popped out to take my order after I moved up to the counter. Food: I ordered the jerk chicken bowl ($15) and with taxes it came to ($18.60) pricey! But, I received a large amount of food. The bowls come with the option of rice and peas, lo mein, or fried rice. I opted in for rice and peas (tasty, but a little wet) Being Caribbean when I say that the rice is wet, it means that it's mushy. We normally like our rice and peas grainy or dried well lol but I guess this works. It did still pack a lot of taste. The protein choice was jerk chicken which was diced and I was able to top it with jerk mambo sauce (very delicious) the jerk chicken was not spicy at all but perfectly seasoned and contained a good serving size. Additional toppings: Creamy coleslaw: blah Pineapple mango salsa: very delicious Plantain: very burnt Cabbage: disgusting Overall I enjoyed the bowl and would likely never order the rice, cabbage, coleslaw, nor plantain again. I would of course order the jerk chicken and would try it as a taco.

I'm a Jamaican cuisine subject matter expert, so I was too excited to learn that they were bringing an Angry Jerk location inside the city. I was sold when I saw it advertised as a "Jamaican Chipotle" lol. That's not the most accurate description but such is life. I had the brown stew chicken bowl, which was very flavorful. Loved that they basically mixed everything that would come separate on a plate from a regular Jamaican spot, since I mix everything up anyway! This isn't the most authentic or best Jamaican option, but it's a good addition to DC. The inside was very regular, that part was comparable to a chipotle lol The reason I docked a point was for the service- I ordered in advance and came maybe 20 mins later to pick it up. When I got inside it was really busy so I'll chalk this experience up to that; I asked the cashier for my order and she told me it wasn't ready. After waiting for 10 more minutes, I inquired about the status of the food again because the receipt ready time had passed. I showed her the website receipt saying the food was ready and she checked again and lo and behold it was ready the entire time. No big deal, but then this person asked me to show my ID for the food LOL. I thought it was really weird, especially since I showed them the receipt for it initially but whatever. This is a good option if you're in DuPont, hope my next service experience is better.

10/10 service and food! Very welcoming staff and place, treated us well and the food was unbelievable. Would highly recommend. They gave us generous samples as well and the bowl is big.

Ordered the pulled chicken bowl with plantains, corn, cabbage, carrots and Mac and cheese on the side. Everything was really good. I just wish I ordered another cup of the jerk mumbo sauce, it gave everything a nice extra flavor

First visit for a friend and me, and it was really good. We each had a jerk chicken bowel but with different combinations of toppings (five selections are included in the price). Chicken had good spice and everything was quite savory. It was nice to get something good and filling on Connecticut Ave. just up from the Mayflower Hotel for pennies over $12. We'll both be back!

Stopped in on this place with my partner and babygirl, greeted immediately and they gave us a couple minutes to look at the menu (and the food). It reminds me of a Jamaicans style chipotle, you choose your toppings and options. The food was Good, not Michelin Star but for the options in this are I enjoyed it! They have a few booths on the side and a couple tables in the front. I ordered the chickpeas, rice n peas, sweet plantains, cabbage, and some fresh veg! My partner had the curry chicken & jerk Chicken bowl, he liked it a lot!

Passed by this place yesterday, but it was packed full of people and there was no place to sit. Today, I found an opening and ordered the half jerk chicken with plantains and chow mein. Some of the chicken was a bit dry, but was delicious with the 2 sauces they provided. Service was great. Will come back.

I ordered the Brussels sprouts as my starter; they were good, nicely seasoned. My only issue? Timing. They didn't come out first. Everyone else had their food, and my "starter" came right before my entrée, which kind of defeated the purpose. For my main, I had the shrimp and salmon rasta pasta. It was good...creamy, flavorful, but definitely spicy. Not unbearable, just be prepared if heat isn't your thing. My mocktail was refreshing and good too... just small. One of my favorite dishes is the oxtail with beans and rice ('rice and peas'). I used to go here for lunch everyday during some period of the quarantine. It helps that it's within walking distance of me. Their new digs are really nice and I'm glad to have them in the neighborhood. The beef patty is delicious and my favorite of their patties, but the chicken patty is good too. I have gotten some things from here at that haven't been as delicious as I'm used to them being when I typically get them from here, but thankfully, my usual experience is that the food is great. Oh yeah, they're Coco bread is good too . Look forward to going in the future!

The food was . This was my first time trying Doubles and It was so good. If you're a fan of chickpeas and curry, it's a great starter. I had the mixed platter with curry chicken, curry shrimp and oxtail with basmati rice and spinach. It was sooooooo delicious. A healthy portion so I was able to take half home. Parking is horrible so brace yourself. I'm going back for sure!

I mean there was only another couple at the time I visited but also the food came out quickly so huge plus! And the restaurant is spacious and casual so enough space for large parties. Overall I enjoyed it but there are a couple things that fell short! I ordered the chicken roti platter. 1.The roti! It's a very small portion served in a small coconut shaped bowl compared to the amount of food you got on the platter. I thought more was coming and unfortunately it was balled up in shredded little pieces that were kind of dry and i couldn't eat it properly with my sides. I thought maybe I had a bad batch but my friend had the same portion and complaint. Unfortunately no pic of that. 2: Honestly the plating is meant to be aesthetically pleasing but it was very hard to eat bone-in chicken out of a bowl on a saucer full of more bowls with a knife and fork. It was better when I took it to go and had a plate at home. Please reconsider this for the diners experience. 3. The doubles was my fave! It's a small app but very delicious and had a slight kick to it.
