This review is for Causa. We had an amazing tasting menu dinner here. It was our second time having the tasting experience at Causa. The service was excellent! They go above and beyond. I love how they explain the origins of every course. We ordered the fish add-on, both hot and cold preparations of the John Dory fish. Loved the ceviche and the Chinese-inspired hot preparation. I had the non-alcoholic drink pairing, and it was a unique assortment of NA bubbles, wine, kombucha and mocktails. All of the food was delectable! We loved the preparations and the creativity of the dishes. One standout dish for us was the uni soup served in a glass sea urchin. We also loved the potato preparations. And I especially always love the opening snack appetizers. I would highly recommend Causa.

Great spot! Very friendly and prompt service. I got a SHIZUOKA HIGHBALL which was a great refresher for the first (ish) warm day. I got the salmon and pork belly skewers and the Lomo soltado, generous portion. For dessert I got the CHOCOLUCUMA which is a must! Excited to come back when I visit the area

Everything we ate here was great. The yakitori is to die for! I'd order everything again: fried rice, lomo saltado, THE DESSERT--except for the fries with cheese and boiled egg. Service was great and fast and we got a nice table. Ambience is elevated, dimmed and with good selection of music.

The food was spectacular; probably one of the best dishes I have ever had! Absolutely delicious!! The service was weird. When I asked questions about the menu and aimed for friendly conversation, she seemed hesitant to respond or reverted to a robot-like, dry response. Please work on being personable, because the chef is killing it! I would pick up food from this location... not sure about dining, if I ever visit DC again.

    Restaurant week winter 2026 menu

I went with a friend for restaurant week and we had such a great time. We sat outside, which felt like an oasis. It was so toasty, and they gave you blankets to bundle up with. The decorations added to the vibe and it added to the experience. I would definitely go back and request to sit outside--I would imagine when the weather is great, it's a great spot to be. Our server was Ashleigh H and she was wonderful. We had a lot of questions and she gave us great feedback and was very engaging. Great wine reccs and was on top of the ball the whole night. The food was great, to start my friend enjoyed the short ribs and I also liked the cebiche, but it felt a little empty without a crispy element to eat with it. The chaufa was delicious, like a fried rice but elevated. So yummy. The sea bass antichucho was delicious. The sauce on top is yummy, but there's a spicy red sauce that you should use as well. The desserts were okay, I liked the guanabanana (way less banana than I thought--in a good way), but the suspiro didn't have a deep enough chocolate flavor for me--my friend loved both. Overall our experience from start to end was wonderful. I would definitely recommend and go back!

Amazonia was such an amazing experience from the host to the decor to the food, and especially our server, Michael. We went for RW and honestly almost every dish stood out. The Peruvian scallops, salmon belly anticuchos, ribs, and lomo saltado were all hits, but the real highlight for me was the dessert the chocolucuma (SO good- we were fighting for the last bite) lol. I tried the pisco sour and the Café Cusco, and both were great. Michael was incredible, super knowledgeable about the food and the history behind it, which really made the experience even better. We sat on the outdoor patio, and it was a little cold even with the heaters and blankets, but that's honestly the only downside I can think of. And the decor? It literally feels like an Amazonian wonderland- so cute and immersive. Overall, such an amazing time. Would absolutely go back.

I am very thankful to have had a second chance with Causa because now I understand the experience now and it was amazing! The service were very attentive and kind; I enjoyed getting to speak to my waiters a lot. I was able to try their winter menu this time around. Had a welcome drink and champagne, alongside the starter bite, welcome snacks, and paracas. I particular enjoyed the flower shaped snack the best. The paracas was a tad bit salty for me but still tasty overall. I enjoyed the presentation for the potatos, chiles, and andes dish! I particularly liked the ending potato with the cheesy/spicy sauce! There was also a complimentary ceviche dish which was very refreshing with its fried corn. The Fishing on the Coast dish was very delicious, putting black cod, sauces, and very flavoured onions together. Perhaps my favourite savoury dish of the night. I enjoyed the Algea and The North dish too with the gnocchi and duck - the duck had a nice crisp taste to it. I really loved the Smoke in the Amazon dish with its wagyu short rib in the sauce. The desserts were honestly the best parts for me! I loved the pre-dessert, which was ice-y, lightly cacao-flavoured, and refreshing. Simple and a nice palette cleanse. Then, the Chazuta was delicious with the different textures you could try the rose with - I particularly liked it with the cacao and crunchy bits. Ended off with some dessert snacks too. I really enjoyed this meal and the service, and I am thankful to have had given Causa another shot. I thought it was very filling and worth it, so I definitely recommend it now, especially with its flavours, staff, and history and context behind the dishes.

Came for my birthday dinner and Causa did NOT disappoint! We came a bit early so we were seated upstairs at Amazonia to enjoy drinks. Once our table was ready we were greeted with a complimentary glass of champagne and a small bite. Service was exceptional - timely top offs for water and retrieving the plates after we finished each course. The explanations of each dish painted a picture of Peru's history with nods to different cultural groups that have rooted there. The platewear was stunning as well! Each dish very well thought out. The standout was the fish course!! Would go back just for that. We ordered a supplemental ceviche dish! The sweet potatoes were AMAZING. Don't forget to order cocktails! The bartender loves his craft and it shows! Interesting and well balanced drinks here.

Wonderful restaurant week experience with flavor explosions and generous portions for the price. High quality ingredients and fabulous service. The custom made a cocktail for me when I said I like tequila sour and bitter- DIVINE! Great moody lighting and spectacular playlist that I now follow on Spotify. Wonderful vibes for girls nights and date nights and even a solo outing at the beautiful bar!

Although this was a little hard to find, I am happy that I made it. Such a beautiful experience from the service, the decor, the ambiance and the food! Amazonia was at the top of my list for places to dine in DC and I was not disappointed. Since I was 30 degrees outside, the patio seating was closed. I did get a sneak peak and it's a lovely space for warmer days. The indoor seat felt intimate with the lighting and seating arrangements. I love, love that their menu is allergy friendly! It makes eating out one less thing to worry about. For the table we ordered Chaufa Putamuyo and Lomo Saltado. For cocktails we ordered Sana Sana, Pisco Sour and Chicano. For Dessert we ordered the Chocolucuma. Loved every morsel was delicious! I can't wait to return here

Amazonia was delicious! We had an early reservation for 2 upstairs in Amazonia (not Causa) and we had such a lovely time. The restaurant is on theme without being kitschy. They offer complimentary still or sparkling and walk you through the menu, which is all Peruvian or Peruvian inspired dishes with a few twists. Our favorite item was for sure the skewers! The salmon belly cannot be missed!

I can see exactly why Causa's food earned its Michelin star. Even when you think you know what you're about to taste, every dish at Causa blows expectations out of the water. Each dish was very carefully crafted, blending textures, flavors, and temperatures. Fish is flown in overnight from Tokyo. We had the cod with sweet potatoes on the side. It was amazing! (I'm not sure if worth $100+ amazing but hey, for the experience.) The lomo saltado was definitely worth it, and so were every dessert. Highly recommend the chazuta. The waitress informed us that this is the only restaurant in the US that uses macambo, almost like a type of white cacao. It was unlike anything I've tasted, and delicious! It was paired with passionfruit jellies and green tea ice cream. I also had an off-menu passionfruit pisco sour. Thankfully, we were seated in a quieter area away from the bar upstairs. The bar was quite loud and busy at 11pm on a Friday. Service was pleasant but not standout.

    Filet mignon skewers

Made a reservation here on a whim. The restaurant is located in an alley way upstairs. The decor is stunning and nicely themed. We tried the filet mignon skewers which were cooked and seasoned to perfection. Must get! We also ordered a whole fish prepared two ways. Ceviche- seasoned perfectly and balanced The second prep was recommended by the waiter. The fish cooked in a sauce so good I was sopping it up to eat with my rice. Fantastic. Last time we ordered is the chaufa putumayo which is similar to a fried rice with chorizo, cecina, egg and scallion. Very filling. The meal was 11/10. The service was 20/10. Must come back.

Where is the closest parking lot from Amazonia restaurant? Is it safe at night to walk from the parking lot to the restaurant?

I don't know a parking lot but we found street parking and had no issues walking at night. We did street parking for other blagden alley restaurants before too.

Is upstairs outdoors only or is there an indoor air conditioned space?

amazonia has both indoor and outdoor space

Is the outdoor table space heated during winter?

the outdoor space is partially covered and only open when weather cooperates (and does have heaters)

    Is it child friendly?

Not really, it is all about the food! No happy meals here.

We initially came for happy hour, but moved to the cocktail menu. The hh was a bit limited, but the drinks were priced overall pretty reasonably for the area. My one complaint is the wine glasses were so teeny. Overall though, I would recommend this bar. Bonus: cheese balls when you sit down! There was urine on the floor, a strong foul odor, and the surface was slippery. For a speakeasy positioning itself as upscale, this was a major miss.
