Bodega is a cute tapas spot right in the heart of Georgetown. Not a bad place to stop by for a quick bite or to enjoy happy hour to wait out the traffic (that's what I did). I thought the service was basic, but I really had to hand it to them on friendliness. They let me use the restroom without having to pay for anything first, which is much appreciated when you have to go. So I didn't mind spending a few bucks with the establishment. I have to say, the food was just okay. It didn't blow me away. I got the bistek a la plancha and the red sangria (I forgot to take pictures before dogging in ). I sat at the bar, and I could tell that the bartender was a bit distracted, but it took away from the overall experience (i.e. waiting for a steak knife, having to ask for bread, waiting for salt and pepper etc.) I'd go more for the ambiance and location over the quality of the food. This place is wonderful! One of my favorites is the octopus. My friends and I shared a bunch of tapas. We got the gambas al ajillo, calamari, chicken croquettes, pan with manchego cheese. Everything was great although the chicken croquettes seemed slightly unflavored and could have used a sauce. The ambiance is great and they had decorations for Halloween. The service was also great, especially for a Saturday night. For anyone looking for Spanish tapas in the Georgetown area, this is a great spot! read more

I could've sworn I wrote and completed a review for this place but alas I did not so here I am unable to leave it blank because I enjoyed this establishment so much! We stopped by for a late work dinner and they were gracious to seat us and serve us promptly without a reservation. Our server was very attentive and friendly. He made suggestions and took the time to explain any items we weren't familiar with. Since there were so many items that sounded great and so close to closing time, we ended up ordering the Dinner Package for two which came with a few of the items we were originally interested in plus the Sangria pitcher. This did not disappoint! it was a nice size and tasty feast! The staff were awesome and friendly and allowing us to take our time to enjoy our meal as we helped them to close the place! A big plus was the awesome Spanish decor and separate private family style tables. Parking in this area is a bit hectic, so def come with patience. read more

Decided to enjoy happy hour but it was so so. Everything from the service to the food and cocktails left a lot to be desired. In the middle of Georgetown, they had a steady flow of patrons. Happy hour is only at the bar My friend ordered a hibiscus margarita and some Gambas Al Ajillo which essentially is thawed shrimp in olive oil - something that could've been made at home. The first margarita was very light and tasted completely like juice but the 2nd was a tad stronger. I ordered a red wine sangria which was just that - red wine with apples - and Datiles Con Tocino - crispy bacon wrapped dates. They were pretty tasty but fried a little too crispy. The food was delicious overall. The cheese platter for $15 was disappointing with a few different cheeses, had to ask for crackers and bread to enjoy it properly. No one dish stood out as excellent with the exception of Pimientos del piquilla rellenos... very tasty. We were seated next to the cashier stand and endured the loud gossiping of the cashier who prevented waiters from refilling water or asking if we needed anything else. In addition to other diners listening to IG post full volume, it made for an unnerving dining experience. Not so quaint for a Sunday evening. This is my first time trying a Spanish restaurant. I have to say Spanish food has its own taste even though it seems really similar to other European or American food visually. However the way how it was seasoned is really different. I think if you have not tried, you should try it. The service is good. The decoration with bullfighting theme is very unique. We had Easter Sunday lunch at La Bodega, and it was such a great experience from start to finish. We sat out on the back patio and pretty much had the whole place to ourselves--it was peaceful and relaxing. Our server was super friendly and attentive, which made everything even better. We kicked things off with drinks--a pomegranate-tini that was light and fruity, and a Caipirinha that was perfectly refreshing with lime, sugar, and cachaça. Both hit the spot. For tapas, we tried a bunch of dishes and loved them all: * Camarones a la Plancha - Grilled shrimp cooked just right with olive oil and garlic. Simple, juicy, and full of flavor. * Chorizo de la Casa - Their house-made Spanish chorizo was delicious--crispy on the outside, smoky, and just a little spicy. * Patatas Bravas - Crispy fried potatoes with a spicy brava sauce and creamy aioli. Crunchy on the outside, fluffy inside--total comfort food with a kick. * Pulpo a la Plancha - Grilled octopus with a nice char, super tender, and served with olive oil and herbs. Really tasty and not chewy at all. * Dátiles con Tocino - Sweet dates wrapped in crispy bacon with a little cheese inside. Everything was off. The best thing about the Paella Marinera con Bogavante was the rice. Which, for a seafood paella, is not okay. The texture was all wrong, and I barely got any meat in the lobster, I felt scammed. The price seemed like a blatant attempt to overcharge tourists who don't know any better. This was my first time eating dinner in Georgetown. A place that, as someone who lives in DC, has never felt very welcoming to the working class. Unless proven otherwise, I feel this part of town is a scam in itself, designed to get you to spend as much as possible in one outing. So, it makes sense that this restaurant relies on its location to make up for the lack of quality in its food. Fancy mall food. The Setas a la Plancha tasted like they were just reheated, and if you didn't eat them quickly, they went cold. The Bistek a la Plancha was overwhelmingly salty. The Pulpo a la Plancha had the oddest chew, and the potatoes were hard and grainy. Last minute reservation for our last night in DC. Wow. This place is a must. Their Croquetas were amazing. If my kid wasn't a fan of dates before this, eating their Dátiles con Tocino means he is now. They were so good! My favorite had to be the tomato bread with Serrano. The star of the night goes to their Paella Marinera con Bogavante. All the seafood in it just sings to your little Spanish heart! It also paired pretty well with the red sangria. Im kind of glad this place is on the other side of the country from me...if it was closer it could be dangerous, I would want to go all the time! DC is so lucky! read more

This place is really just soso. More of a touristy restaurant I think. Pretty inside and on a very buzzy location of Georgetown with pretty ambiance. The food was lacking in quality and either had lack of, or strange off flavors. House salad had brown ends. Gazpacho wasn't bad but not good either. Lacked the yummy punch of Jaleo's. Potato bravas Romesco sauce had little flavor. The chorizo with peppers and the lamb chops weren't bad though. I'll try another Spanish restaurant next time. read more

The quality of the foods were great. Meats were juicy & not over cooked. Shrimps was tasty but not very special, so was the Spanish bread with cheese. Steak was full of flavor and easy to chew. Everything here was absolutely delicious! We came later in the evening and the staff was so friendly and helpful with the recommendations. We opted in for the 2 for $120 special where we could choose two cold appetizers, three hot tapas, and paella, and a dessert for $120. We tried the: bread tapas one with goat cheese and honey, the other with tomato and prosciutto, the garlic shrimp, lamb chops (not pictured but highly recommend), and the calamari. For the paella we chose the seafood paella which came packed with seafood it was amazing. Everything here is highly recommended it was so flavorful and tasted authentic. We've ordered from Bodega quite a few times prior to visiting in person, for take out we would always order the arroz Abando which we love but we divided to dine in the restaurant for our anniversary and in addition to ordering the rice, we also orders a few other items from their menu which we were not huge fans of, will definitely be sticking to our one menu item in the future. I WOULD NEVER RECOMMEND THIS PLACE TO MY WORST ENEMY. And I've never left a yelp review. I was sat and had to call over a server since no one came for 15-20 minutes. I wanted to order the prawns but the server convinced me to order the shrimp. You cannot convince me this shrimp was not FROZEN. I know shrimp and the texture was wrong. I also ordered the patatas bravas which are supposed to be spicy. Instead they tasted like large chunks of boiled potatoes with ZERO flavor. I ordered the bacon wrapped dates; I'm convinced the bacon wasn't even cooked. It was chewy, fatty, mushy white bacon that was INEDIBLE. The severed NEVER came back and again after 45 minutes I had to ask someone else to get me the check. I told them how the bacon was not cooked and the response was "sorry you didn't like it." They charged me for the whole meal and couldn't care less. This was actually probably the WORST dining experience I have ever had and I eat out every night. The service was TERRIBLE and the food was even worse. Worst part is I still tipped because I felt bad. Chances are they still talked trash on the 11% I left when it should have been 0. read more

INCREDIBLE experience!! Came with four people, one of whom has a severe dairy intolerance. The staff was so great about knowing which tapas on the table were some she could eat or at least enough to know she should avoid. Everyone we met was kind, friendly and so knowledgeable! We all had more than enough to eat. Favorite dishes at the table; steak tapas, mussels in wine, jamón Serrano bread, pulpa and rissoto. But honestly, not a bad plate. Although a big restaurant, its narrow and maintains a careful intimacy, my chair was close. To the table beside us but never heard them. If you like tapas this is your place to go in Georgetown! The tapas menu is so large. They have cold and hot tapas. We tried the Tortilla Española, Patatas Bravas, Pulpo and Sepia a la Plancha. I think if you go with a big group you should order more than one tortilla española because it might be shareable only for 2 people. The other tapas were good portions. Our server was attentive and recommend us the best dishes. We also had paella de pollo y chorizo and arroz abanda and they were both delicious. The ambiance is beautiful transporting you to Spain. We ended up ordering the Pollo Y Chorizo Paella along with a bunch of tapas such as the Patatas Bravas, Lamb Chops and Mejillones al Vapor. They prefaced the Paella would take a long to cook before confirming our order. Also, double checked our various food allergies. Truly appreciated how friendly and accommodating the staff was from beginning to end. Overall the food was okay. I personally wasn't a fan of the Paella since it was heavy on the cheese (not the best for the lactose intolerant friends). Stopped by Bodega for some Spanish tapas and left with mixed feelings. The place itself is really cool--lots of character, with a strong Spanish vibe that makes it feel like a little escape from DC. Definitely a fun spot to grab a drink and share some small plates. Tried a few dishes: potatoes, lamb chops, chicken skewers, and roasted peppers. The lamb chops were super flavorful and cooked just right. The roasted peppers were surprisingly good, a bit unexpected but tasty. The potatoes were well-seasoned but nothing great. The chicken skewers, were a letdown--they had a lot of potential but ended up being a bit too tough and lacked flavors even with the sauce. Came in with my 6 yr daughter and they sat us at a 4 top ( place was essentially empty). After we quickly went to the bathroom and upon return were asked to move to a smaller table because of a "mistake". We were sat at an L shaped 2 top which was uncomfortable. Then the guy has the nerve to then wait on people who came after us. I told him my disappointment but essentially was told too bad. Not the kind of behavior I want my daughter seeing so we left. I've been to Bodega several times and it doesn't disappoint! Our most recent meal hit the spot when we were craving tapas. Their Rosada sangria is to die for. I couldn't help but slurp down 2 of them during dinner. The sangria has just the right amount of sweetness and lovely bubbles. The strawberries soaked in booze are the cherry on top. We ordered a ton of tapas - Croquetas de Pollo, Patatas Bravas, Tortilla Española, Albóndigas Estofadas, Gambas al Ajillo and the Paella de Pollo con Gambón. (Don't judge we were hungry!) All were delicious but the shrimp fell a little short. And the paella didn't have that amazing crust you expect with a paella. But, overall we really enjoyed our meal. We came here for a quick drink and snack. We wanted to go somewhere less crowded in the Georgetown area that had fun drinks. I was happily delighted to find that we made it for happy hour. The drinks we ordered costed $6 and appetizers were $7. Our final bill for two cocktails and an appetizer came out to $27 with tip which was great! The hibiscus margarita I ordered tasted nothing like a margarita unfortunately. The alcohol used was obviously not top shelf and of lesser quality which wasn't a big surprise. There were also a bunch of syrups and juices used which I wasn't a fan of...I should have ordered the wine ! On the plus side my husband's mojito was delicious. So, if you don't know what to order from the happy hour drink menu, I recommend the mojito. For food we just got the croquettes de pollo. These tasted like fried chicken alfredo balls. I liked these! The service was very good and our server made sure our plates were clean (since I kept noticing black marks on them) and insisted on switching them out. TOSTADA DE QUESO DE CABRA CON MIEL - 10 Literally just toasted bread with goat cheese and honey, but it was so rich, so savory, so pungent, and so naturally sweet. The bread was crispy and crunchy, and the goat cheese melted in my mouth and was strong in taste. There was also the crunch and mellow sweetness of the pear. The honey drizzle only elevated the whole experience. Very tasty, and would recommend. JUDÍAS VERDES FINAS SALTEADAS CON ALMENDRAS - 12 Green beans with garlic and almonds. Great greens option. Nothing special, but the green beans were sautéed well and were perfectly cooked and crispy. Good, but not unique if that's what you're looking for. SETAS A LA LANCHA - 12 Mushrooms with sea salt, olive oil and parsley - nothing special, but they were still very tasty. Mushrooms had a good texture and flavor. Overall, good, but if you want to try something more unique, I wouldn't recommend this one. PATATAS BRAVAS - 9 I wish the potatoes were crispier, as they were a bit more on the soggy side, today. The sauces drizzled on top made it spicy and creamy, which added most of the flavor and was delicious. PAELLA MARINERA CON BOGAVANTE (FOR 2-3) - 68 We balled on the paella because we wanted a variety of different seafoods. They definitely won't skimp you on the seafood here and you'll get some sort of monkfish, scallops or squid with every bite of rice you take. The seafood in general was OK (lobster was big, but not much meat, lol), and I felt like the whole paella was on the drier side. I didn't feel like the rice soaked up much of the seafood "sweetness" or flavor. The seafood was also dry, but still good. I expected more out of the paella, unfortunately, and this didn't deliver. Out server made sure we scooped up all the rice and food, including the extra crispy parts which ended up being the most delicious and flavorful part of the paella. We came here for a brunch/ lunch type of thing but there isn't a dedicated brunch menu. Everything is done tapa style but there are 3 or so entrees. The ambience is nice; there is an outdoor seating area in the front, one in the back and two areas inside that are more dark. Our waiter was nice but he did forget to bring our drinks and we had to remind him while we were 5 tapas in. Food comes out pretty quickly so it's not a very long wait. One of my friends was visiting DC for the first time and I was going to be in town for the day. I knew I wanted tapas for lunch and my go to spot only opened at 4pm...my husband suggested this place (he had been before and loved it) and I'm glad he did.
