What a hidden gem....like ... seriously hidden...waaaaaay up 14th Street. In a easy to miss strip of shops in an easy to miss part of DC is a little Tapas Bar serving massive flavors at shockingly good prices. I went with 4 friends, all over 6 foot 2, so we were able to taste half of the menu. Everything we had was stand out good, came out fast and full of flavor. This is now my favorite Spanish restaurant in DC (thank God, cause I was really missing Estadio the other day). The dishes I'll ask for on my death bed are: the scallops over black rice (scrumptious and perfectly cooked scallops resting on the most delicious and most rice....like....the rice might out shine the scallops it's that good); the steak (PERFECTLY cooked and impossibly tender....what the hell did they do in that kitchen!!!!!! We almost ordered another); and the seafood paella (just...get...it.... period)!! Fast and friendly service, solid cocktails and of course sangria. I don't want to gate keep. This place is a hot! Go keep it in business!!!!!

Oh my goodness, if in DC go here! This truly is a gem. Small sized restaurant that cooks each dish to perfection. Our chicken and octopus was as tender as it comes and my husband's Manchego cheeseburger was packed full of flavor with a light heat. I am a foodie, my husband not as much. But he was begging to come back while visiting on vacation. This never happens! Staff was attentive and friendly! Plus pricing was affordable for the area.

Nice food spot in north dc. Went during happy hour. Service was quick and attentive. Staff gave excellent recommendations from the menu. The interior was small and cute. Only con is the lack of parking nearby.

Stopped in recently for a meal on the patio and it was good, not great. Some nice dishes, some ok. Service was good. Didn't do any drinks. For food, the highlights were: crispy potatoes (bravas), pan con tomate (flavor was amazing, bread was soggy), mushrooms garlic wine sauce with an egg (great flavor but very liquidy/hard to share). We also did the gambas (delicious sauce but the shrimp were overcooked), the octopus (nicely cooked but just not a favorite), manchego cheesebuger (just ok), and the tortilla (not runny inside, no onions, i'd call it a potato omelet). the coconut flan dessert was nice, a touch sweet but not overly so. Overall enjoyed, it's not difficult to get into so that's nice but it's a bit of a trek for me so not sure how frequently I'd go as there weren't many truly standout dishes

Amazing food and lovely service. This place is a sleeper and it won't be long before Tom Sietsema 'discovers' it and you have to wait to get in.

Cam here with friends. We had heard good things and wanted to check it out. Spanish food from the basque region is very good as I have been there and have first hand experience. In the north they call them "pinchos" instead of "tapas." And of course most of the menu is naturally gluten free. We started with the cheese platter which was excellent and I a martini made with Spanish Gin. It was nice and served in a fun glass. In the end we ended having the manchego cheeseburger (no bun for me). I know, not the most Spanish item on the menu. But it was very good. The place is simple and their is actually more seating outside than inside. The prices are reasonable. I would come again if I am in the neighborhood (which is likely since my friends live a block away), but this is not something that I would recommend driving a long distance for. In other words a great neighborhood restaurant.

Atxondo was such a lovely surprise. We are visiting DC for the weekend for dance and felt like we were in the middle of nowhere when we saw this place. It was a very chill neighborhood for a Saturday afternoon, and we're so glad we took a chance. The patatas bravas were amaaaaazing, and I was pleasantly surprised that they chose to fuse a curry sauce with their bok choi, rice, and salmon. A smart combination that cuts through to the palate. The smoothie and sangria were refreshing, and I was happy that I came during their afternoon happy hour. Their staff is friendly and the restaurant features an inviting environment. Check them out next time you're passing by; I highly recommend!

Easily one of our favorite Spanish spots in the city. Extremely friendly service and such high high quality food. Went for a friends birthday and had so many dishes - the standout was the whole rock fish - wow! Don't sleep on this gem on upper 14th for amazing food and overall impeccable experience.

Kale Salad, Black Rice, Seared Scallops, and Pineapple Margarita...Delicious!!!

The Spanish cheese (Mahón) along with the crackers and mustard sauce was superb. All the meats had their own characteristics and unique flavors but the jamón stood out to us the most. It even went well with the sauce that came for our cauliflower dish. It was fun piecing the components together to make unique tasty bites. I would come back just for the charcuterie alone. The drinks we got were Angelli's Ferrari along with the espresso martini-ish. My favorite was definitely the Ferrari one, but the espresso martini was super mild and had a slight coffee flavor. Good for people who like very light coffee. The Ferrari one was very bright and had lots of fruity notes to hide the alcohol. For entrées, we had the shakshouka, crispy, cauliflower, and brunch pork belly. Out of all these the cauliflower was definitely my favorite; super light with good earthy flavors and nuttiness and acidity from the lemon. The brunch pork belly was good too. The meat was perfectly cooked, but I found the beans to be a little bit overwhelming. I'm not a fan of baked beans personally so that might've been my fault for picking the dish, but I still did enjoy it and the pork that was well cooked made up for it; definitely for someone who likes beans. Shakshouka was very hearty with a lot of tomatoes and red vegetables in general. If you like lasagna or any sort of tomato spaghetti dish, you will like this one. I found this to be a bit much though. I was slightly tired of the flavor at the end. Just be aware it is a bit spicy. We had a pear tart for dessert. Honestly, it reminded me of an apple pie and it was good, but I think that some of the other desserts would've been a bit better. Had a lot of sweet cinnamon notes along some crispy flaky dough from the outside. It was an interesting take but it was still good. The atmosphere is great here; we had seating on the second floor, so it was different from the busy first floor. Very relaxed and there's a lot of natural light coming around which made everything feel very welcoming. Our server was also super friendly. I will definitely be back at this place

They forgot one of our benedicts & when it came out, it looked smaller than the other one. My main issue is that they promote that they have vegan options, but they really do not. The crispy cauliflower is about the only thing that is vegan on the menu. While I do occasionally eat meat, most everything had dairy in it & I have an allergy. We tried two dishes, one is a Laotian version of the Tom Yum soup, which has a strong kick to it: spicier than the typical Thai Tom Yum Soup if you like spicy food. We ordered it mild but it is still very spicy to us. We also sampled a Malaysian dish which is a fried fish sitting in this curry sauce base. Very tasty! It is typical of Spanish flavors, heavily relying on high-end cured meats and cheeses, and classics such as croquetas. There is something very special that goes into tapas because its suppose to satisfy you based on good taste over quantity. Large shrimp in a generous skillet of olive oil and slow cooked garlic slices and a iberico mac and cheese are some examples of how they elevate classics we are familiar with. We really liked that they learned into garlic and spice. We found dried Aji Caballero in our meal, great attention to source country. They have a very robust and generous drinks menu. Loved watching others not dining alone and embracing that share quality of the menu design. Perhaps it is not the best tapas I had, I would have liked to see a balance with lighter citrus flavors but maybe that was an ordering issue. At some point, since the menu heavily leans towards rich and decadent, its better to plan around that. Our waitress was amazing, she explained the questions we had on the ingredients and was on it with the refills.

No reservation and sat comfortably at the bar. Physical Examination Food - This place was absolutely delicious. We started with Arancini and Prosciutto e Polenta. The arancini was fried perfectly - crispy outside, warm risotto inside, and sitting in this savory-sweet tomato sauce that I could've honestly just eaten with a spoon (and basically did using the focaccia they give with your meal - which itself was delicious too). The arancini also has ground beef in the center, which adds to the flavor and depth of what is usually just fried risotto. The polenta fries with paprika aioli were fantastic too. My only complaint is that I wish there were more of the fries because there were only 3 to go along with the large plate of sliced prosciutto. The prosciutto itself was fine. Just standard quality prosciutto. For mains, we went family-style and shared three entrees: the pork ossobuco from the secondi menu, the tagliarini with shredded duck, and the cavatelli with rabbit and fava beans. The ossobuco was cooked well, though I wish the braise flavor went deeper into the pork. The truffle mushroom risotto underneath was incredible. Rich, creamy, and the fresh lemon and parsley gremolata on top cut through all that richness perfectly. The tagliarini was delicious, but my wife and I agreed that the duck flavor was a little lost in the rich marinara sauce. It didn't feel like I was eating duck, to be honest. You could've told me that was shredded short rib, and I might've believed you. The cavatelli was probably my favorite dish - those shell-shaped pasta pieces with rabbit and fava beans in a white wine sauce that had this unique flavor I haven't tasted anywhere else. There's a mild gaminess from the rabbit, but it was very subtle. Each time I had a fava bean, it was a fun change of pace in texture and taste as I was spooning this plate down my throat. It was so so good. Portions were generous too, which made the prices feel totally worth it. We left full and satisfied. My wife had a lambrusco spritz that was deliciously refreshing, and we shared some good wine throughout the meal. No complaints. Service - The bartender was really kind and attentive. Even though we weren't at a table, we didn't feel like we were getting second-tier service or anything. They checked on us regularly, made good recommendations, and kept everything moving smoothly. I also love a service that offers more table bread without needing to be asked. And their table bread was this fragrant focaccia, so I could've eaten all of whatever they brought. Ambiance - haven't been to a ton of Italian restaurants in DC, but I loved the vibe here. Intimate, cozy, dim lighting. The wine selection was great too - enough variety to be interesting without being one of those overwhelming 50-page wine lists. I think this would be a perfect date night spot. Assessment A high-quality Italian restaurant with creative takes on traditional dishes, generous portions, and an intimate atmosphere. A strong contender for the Adams Morgan dining scene, where restaurants are lined up right next to each other, and making a choice can be a bit difficult. Plan - Add to recommended restaurant list for DC visitors - Consider for future date nights or a solo wine and appetizer moment - Return to try more pasta dishes or enjoy a happy hour

Our server was really knowledgeable and friendly. As for the food , unfortunately, i didn't have anything that blew me away. My mini hamburger/Ibérico de bellota mini hamburguesa was actually my favorite item. Very juicy and flavorful. Though $13.00 for one slider was a bit much. My least favorite was the rabbit confit with apricot puree/Conejo en salmorejo con puré de albaricoques. I was excited about this because I can't recall the last time I've ever had rabbit but I think it was the texture of the puree that took away from the dish. Coming in at the middle was the seafood paella. I know it's one of the restaurants headlining menu items but I found the seasoning inconsistent.
